First Day of the 2011-2012 Ski Season

What a beautiful Day to start out the 2012 Ski Season.
Sis and I spent the day up at Heavenly (Nevada Side). Since we have only had one storm so far this year. There really isn't much natural snow. However, Heavenly Valley has done a spectacular job making enough snow to cover the runs that are open. It is just like skiing mid season . No wind to speak of all day Saturday. As you can tell, these pictures look like they were taken on a stage indoors somewhere, not at 10,000 feet overlooking he most beutiful fresh clear water lake in the world.

She went for a ride with me yesterday morning 6.6 miles pretty good....... I think she is getting her feet back...... that makes me Happy.
And It seems it is making her pretty happy too.

That's right....... rode Log Skinny not once but twice today. Nice very Nice

Very intimidating its only 2' off the ground....... if that...... maybe 25' long and the log is wider than most of the trails up in The ACT. But ya still don't want to fall off...... I am sure it would Fn hurt. I have been riding and walking past Log Skinny all summer and yesterday I stopped and said "lets do this"? So with a couple of practice runs getting familiar with the size and width of this monster (in my mind). I went up the trail about 20 yards turned my trusty stead around and started rolling at the Log Skinny..... went up the ramp with a little hesitation and then let her roll....... Down off the log .... I made it "Shit" I made it. Good thing..... cuz, I would probably still be up there, if I didn't . So being the dumb ass I am, I needed to do it one more time just to make sure I could really do it. And same story, I did it again a little slower this time but still crossed Log Skinny. Nice very Nice!!
Well that little feet is now off my Ta-Do List

Well Lexi didn't get a lot of exercise this summer and so it has been my focus to get her back In shape. We have been walking every day and some times every other day she has also gone on a couple of bike rides with me. It's working........ she is building her stamina up and I hope she will be back in shape by December. Just a couple of problems tho when the snow falls it is going to put a damper on our efforts. With skiing and all. But I will make a concerted effort to keep it up so she can get back on the trails with me for a good while to come.

The trencher took a shit... So I called Home Depot to rent one. Great they got one.... So I went out to the Truck and the truck wont start. That was 3 hours ago still won't start. Charging the batteries now. Hope that works???? So the weather wasn't the problem ..... Everything else is. What The F.

Ski season is OVER

Wow what a Epic year for sliding down steep hills with two sticks strapped to your feet. I think I logged more than 50 days on the snow. Maybe only an hour or maybe first chair to last. But in my mind that is an epic year. There was more powder days than blue sky days and that is very rare in the Sierra's. It actually got to the point that I was wishing for some hard pack.
My Daughter started back up skiing after 6 years and she got some days under her belt also.
All and all.....................WoW What an incredible ski season !!! ! !!!

Kirkwood-16, Heavenly-25, Northstar-9 , Alpine-2, Seirra at Tahoe-3, Mammoth-1 and Sugar Bowl-1. All saw the bottom of my boards. Here are a couple of pictures of this season.

All the trails up in the AC are nice except Creek Trail it is very ICY in spots and I highly recommend not riding it for a while. Other than that frozen wreck waiting to happen, every other trail up in the AC is in great shape. Lester it was great to see you guys coming up. But you are way out of my league when it comes to climbing. Your a mountain goat. Watching you coming up was amazing the speed you guys carry when you are climbing. If we ride give me a 15 minute head start.

A couple of Stats on The AC

Old post from a couple of years ago.
All stats are rounded to the tenth of a mile.

1) From the trail head at the bike path above the collage up Vee Cee Canyon, 7 Steps and Deer Run to the bottom of Baldy Green is "2 miles".

2)Up Baldy Green to the armored switch back is ".4 miles".

3) From the Armored Switch Back up to the top of Mikes 4 Day ".5 miles".

Note: between the top of 4Day and the top of Creek Trail is ".2 miles".

4) The Creek Trail top to bottom "1.2 miles"

5) New Lower Connector from Creek Trail to Deer Run ".5 miles".

6) "Loop Ride" From Deer Run were the lower connector intersects with Deer Run, Baldy and around 4Day. Down Creek Trail and up lower connector back to Deer Run is. "3.2 miles".

Nice...... the bike rode well and it was a beautiful day for a ride no wind and temps in the 50s. the new trail off of baldy Green is a lot of fun and it makes for a great loop in the south face. Log skinny will be my next challenge.
The new trail .... well the new train for me....... it has been around for about 16 months....... is right above Baldy Green and runs across the south face of Ash Canyon and finishes at the top of Four Day.

just got the bike tuned and I can't wait to get on the trails. I have been walking the 7 steps loop for the last couple of months. I am ready to start pedaling my happy ass around the AC again.I have right around 20 days of skiing in so far and it is only February. Wow I think that might be a record for me,
