The medieval backdrop of Toronto’s iconic Hart House lends the perfect setting for the mid-century modern designs that inspire this shoot. I had the opportunity to team up with some of the top vendors in this industry for this style shoot. Lynzie Kent, from Love by Lynzie was the brain child behind this creative vision

Model Alexandra Crenian is wearing a Crop Top and a Lace Cape. This was Jennifer Dang from Ferre Sposa way of creating a glam medieval style.

To compliment this risque crop dress, May wanted to create a sultry, sexy yet sophisticated look . She went for the classic and mostly recommended look " smokey eyes "

Whatever the occasion, always remember to pick the right foundation because it is the important base to the rest of your beautiful canvas!

Most modern foundations not only moisturize your skin, but also protect it from harmful environment. Most foundation creams contain solar-control factors – (SPF, Titanium Dioxide) it's very important to protect your skin with SPF - especially in the Summer and Winter. Sun exposure increases and helps age lines, spots, wrinkles - the whole nine yards. You will notice women that are in very hot sunny places are likely to have more lines than someone who doesn't - with the exception of " cosmetic surgery". Any form of cosmetic applied to the skin is basically protection for that area such as foundation (face) lipstick (lips) etc.

Stick Foundation: Most stick foundation is a " All - In - One" thing. Concealer foundation and set powder. Normally, its good with the coverage and it's quick application. Good for someone that is on the go and needs minimal make-up. ( Perscriptives, Bobbi Brown)

Cream Foundation: Some cream foundations can be used as concealers because its very rich and thick. Great for photos, covering tattoos, scars and dark blemishes. It can be heavy and cakey at times, It really depends which ones one you are using and how you are applying it. Every brand has different consistencies and ingredient which will vary in results. Nowadays, most cream foundation contain silicon, which means it does not stick directly to skin but rather creates a tiny layer over the skin, protecting it allowing air to circulate. Also most brands, the pigmentation is very fine that it's hard to clog pores like the old traditional foundations. So, not all creams clog pores. Thanks to the new modern creams. Mousse Foundation: Mousse foundation is a cream foundation in a whipped consistency. It gives a lighter coverage than cream foundation and its also good on mature skin because mousse foundation doesn't settle in fine lines. Liquid Foundation: Liquid foundation is probably the most common and popular of the choices because it pratically works on everyone. Liquid foundation gives good coverage, you can get them to light - medium full) and there are many formulas to choose from ( water based, silicone etc) and types ( matte finish, dewey finish, oil free etc) ( Make-up Forever Face and Body, Vincent Long Water Canvas, Perscriptives, Revlon, and Cover Girl)

Tinted Moisturizer: Tinted moisturizer is basically a moisturizer with some colour/pigmentation in it. It's ideal for someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup but just wants to even out their skin. ( MAC, Almay)

Cream to Powder: It is used recommended for oily skin since it sets to a matte. It's fast and convenient and a fast alternative to liquid foundation. (MAC, Smashbox)
Powder Foundation: Is a powder that is heavier on the pigmentation to give more coverage than a blotting / press powder. It's ideal for someone who is shiny/oily and just needs to eliminate shine and even out the skin tone. ( Make-up Forever and Smashbox wet/dry)

I've always seen other make up artist use this as a make up remover on set. It has intrigued me in the past but I never knew where they purchased it. I'll be honest, the packaging threw me off as it's just your simple plain clear plastic with a sticker on it I thought it was just your ordinary make up remover... boy was I wrong. We all know to never judge a book by its cover.

This make up remover is simply amazing in many ways. After doing extensive research, I guess I was not the only beauty junkie that agreed. I still don't understand why it took me so long to discover such an amazing product. This comes in 2 versions, Sebium and Crealine

New Brides are considering to get Eye Lash Extensions but is it right for you?

Eyelash extensions have truly revolutionized the world of cosmetics. It's no mystery that the eyes are the first thing people look at, "smile with your eyes” With the Eyelash Extensions, your eyes will appear brighter, bigger and sexier. Women love looking refreshed first thing in the morning, and feel no need for much make-up other than fluttering your set of Eye Lashes. Guess what? You can swim in these , can you say VACAY, that’s right, chuck that mascara or strip lashes away and swim stress and worry free! We know we feel so much prettier, it’s was one of my BEST KEPT SECRET and probably will be yours. It's not for everyone due to its demand high maintenance :) ( side note, I am a licensed lash tech )

Eyelash Extensions are semi-permanent, and are applied individually lash by lash. Each eyelash extension is permanently bonded to a single natural eyelash, when the natural lash sheds due to the growth cycle, the eyelash extension will shed with it.
How long is the application?It really depends on yur eye lash technician. Full set of lashes, can range anywhere from 1 hour (natural set) to 2 hours (dramatic set)Refills take approx 30 mins.

How long do they last?Each eye lash hair grows at its own rate and each eyelash hair is at a different point in its cycle. Naturally your eyelash cycle lasts approx. 60-90 days and a new lash grows in. Typically a new set of eyelash extensions should last you anywhere between 2-3 weeks with the proper maintenance by the client.
How do I maintain my new set of lashes?

•· You do NOT have allergies/sensitivities to acrylates or cyanoacrylate adhesives.

•· Exposing your eyelash extensions to water, hear, sauna, steam and friction?

•· Applying eye cosmetics or skin care products to your eyelashes or your eyelids?

•· Receiving irritation eye-are treatments, such as chemical peels, skin-resurfacing procedures, eyebrow waxing, lasers, eye surgeries, etc.?

•· Wearing contacts (wear glasses instead)?

•If you checked all the above, then you are an ideal candidate for Eyelash Extensions.

If you did not check one or more of the items listed above, consult with your Eyelash Stylist for further information to ensure beautiful, long-lasting results and a comfortable and relaxing experience.

After Care Guide for the ones who have them

24hr Tips: Remember that the first 24 hours are especially crucial for the bonding to properly occur! Common activities you need to avoid during the first 24 hours include showering, washing the eyes, tanning, applying creams or lotions to the eye area, applying mascara or any eye make-up, excessively touching the lashes, spas, steam rooms, sauna, swimming, exercising, contact lens solutions and sleeping on the lashes. Constant heat may cause the adhesive bond to weaken.
Daily Tips: The most common causes of lash fall out before the end of your natural lash life cycle include excessively touching the lashes, use of oil based products, layering on excessive amounts of mascara which requires excessive cleaning, and frequent exposure to heat sources such as spas, steam rooms and tanning salons.

Sleeping Tips: We recommend sleeping on your back the first night to ensure your lashes do not become tangled while drying. In the morning, use a mascara brush to gently separate and groom your new lashes. Any type of rubbing or tugging will shorten the life span of your lashes, its best that you try to avoid this as much as possible.

•· Avoid using any oil based cleansers on or near the eye area. Use an oil-free eye make-up remover.

•Do not use cotton balls, cotton rounds or swabs directly on the eyelashes as the fibers may get lodged in the bond area of your lashes.

•Although mascara is not necessary with your eyelash extensions you can use it sparingly, on the tips only to achieve an even more dramatic look. Avoid using oil based or waterproof mascara / liners as the ingredients in it will dissolve the bond of the adhesive. Ask your Lash Technician about specialty products for eyelash extensions

•Avoid using harsh mechanical eyelash curlers as they can break both natural and synthetic lashes. A heated eyelash curler can be used sparingly to help shape and curl lashes on the TIPS of the lashes ONLY. Do not apply heated eyelash curler to the base of the lashes where the lashes are bonded

Re-fill and Re-lash: The look can last indefinitely with 45-60 minutes Re-Fill / Re-lash appointments every 2-3 weeks. Like your scalp hair, natural eyelashes grow and shed in a cycle, which is typically about 60 days (2 months). When a natural eyelash matures and falls out, a new eyelash has already been growing and quickly replaces it. People typically shed between 1 to 5 natural lashes each day, depending on their individual growth cycles. When properly applied, an eyelash extensions will remain in place until the natural lash on which it rests falls out. Re-lash appointments are necessary to replenish the fallen hairs and maintain the look.

Bow and Lace Nails

We had this picture on Instagram and recieved a lot of request for a tutorial. Unfortunately we did not take

photos Step By Step so hopefully I can write it for you. We listed the 'colour type' and linked it to the one I used in the above photo. You can always use this picture for inspiration and create your own. A rule for most nail looks is that if you want to alternate nail colours it's more flattering to stick to 4 colours so it doesn't look too busy.

***Please note***After the Polish and 2 top coats, then apply the jewels.

Thumb : Base Coat from Sally Hansen , 2 Coats of Dark Teal ( Mary Kay - Tempting Teal ), on the tip 1/3 of the nail I used a Clear Polish with Silver Glitter in it ( China Glaze - Silver Lining ) and glued on this really cute Bow right underneath it.

Index : Base Coat from Sally Hansen , 2 Coats of Coral ( Chna Glaze Flip FLop Fantasy ) on half of the nail diagonally as shown in the above picture, I used a black and white striping nail polish and created diagonal lines. I topped it off with black matte small round crystals for effect.

Middle : Base Coat from Sally Hansen , 2 Coats of Dark Teal ( Mary Kay - Tempting Teal ), and on the bottom center near the cuticle I applied a pink tear drop crystal

Ring : Base Coat from Sally Hansen , 2 Coats of Coral ( Chna Glaze Flip FLop Fantasy ) , Using the white striping nail polish I striped 4 lines horizontally to create some contrast to the nail . Then I used the Black Striping pen to create a lace looking design and attached the Black Bow just below the center of the nails

Pinky : Base Coat from Sally Hansen , 2 Coats of Dark Teal ( Mary Kay - Tempting Teal ), and applied 4 clear crystals right down the center.

With so many makeup artists out there, how do you separate the experienced from the inexperience. Thankfully with the internet, shopping for a makeup artist can be easier than it looks. Here are some things to look out for when you are seeking a makeup artist for your wedding.

WHY “YOU” SHOULDN’T APPLY OUR OWN MAKE-UP FOR YOUR WEDDING

Women are proficient in applying their everyday look, which works for your everyday but that doesn't mean that it will be camera friendly.
Bridal makeup is not a just “heavier” application, its an enhancement of your features so you can look good both in person and most importantly on camera. After all, photos and video will be your only reference to you special day.
You need a professional makeup artist to correctly match your skin complection and use complimenting colours not only work best with your skin tone and facial features but also work with your wardrobe the bridal party and wedding theme.
Your hands are going to be full with other things to do. This is one less thing to worry about and to do yourself. Even makeup artist hire makeup artist!
Plus it's pampering, and you totally deserve it

WHAT IS CONSIDERED A PROFESSIONAL

Ask lots of questions, ask about their formal training, years of training, how they got started. Please note there are many artist that are self-taught and are amazing so don't feel insecure if this is the case.
A common practice is for artist to say they have several years of experience. However these years of experience may not be applicable to photography or bridal makeup. The beauty industry can be slow in the beginning and the artist may have only limited experiemce.
If you find a makeup artist online, look at their portfolio. Look at un-edit photos to see their style to see if it suits your comfort. If they don't have any photos online, ask them to email you. A true artist will always have pictures of their work. No excuses
Things to consider, are they mobile, at the salon etc. What kind of services are you seeking?

SETTING UP A TRIAL

Why are trials important? It's crucial and worth the investment. Most artist will charge a fee for a trial which is normal. During the trial you can figure out if the artist is right for you, no surprises on your Wedding Day! You're already stressed with other problems! And most importantly for time. You want to be on schedule with everything, the last thing you want to do is have your makeup artist "guess" and " guess once more" what you like. In and out!
We always like to suggest you set up your trial during an event this way you can see how it reacts to your face for long time periods or if your skin is sensitive to their products. You want to eliminate any possible issues on the day of the Wedding.
We always suggest to wear white so you can have a better understanding as to how your makeup will look like against something white. Other clothing colour may compliment your makeup and not look the same when you are in your white gown.
Bring any accessories that you may be wearing.
Bring a friend for a second opinion, not your FIANCE!
Bring a camera so you can see how it looks on film.
Referrals are great when you are looking for an artist, you will get honest opinions of the artist. Search engines are great as well as wedding forums or any wedding related site. Book Mark some of your favourite artist and shop around. It's ok to SHOP!
A skilled makeup artist will recommend you what looks good on you. This
is why you are there, you are looking for a professional opinion. Pay attention, it should make sense when your artist is explaining to you why they are selecting these colours. You're artist should also listen to your needs and comfort of makeup. You both should have input
Your artist should create more than one look. How do you know what looks good on you if you don't try? This should be a full makeup application not half face, you will never get the full effect without a full face.
Your artist should have a large selection of colours to choose from, look at their products to see array of colours and textures to suit every need. The makeup must be long-lasting, waterproof (including tear-proof eye makeup), high performance and photo friendly. They should have a mix of all sorts of products from Industry brands to high end even some drug stores.
A true artist understands their tools will make or break them. Are they carrying waterproof products, do you see a consistency in their foundation choices or are they all different brands and types of foundations, dirty brushes and products spilled everywhere. You can be the judge. This is going on your face!
Hygiene and sanitation is extremely important, during your trial session, do you notice if your artist is using it directly from the products, are they cleaning in between, double dipping etc
Ask your artist how they are going to remember the makeup application so they can re-create it. It may be photos, face charts etc?
Once you are comfortable with everything, secure your date!

How Advance do you need to book with us?
It is recommended the sooner the better, 4-6 months is ideal. Between the months of April - October( peak season) This is a first come first serve basis. Once the deposit is secured, we will securely hold your event date.

Securing Your Date
In order to secure your date, a 20% deposit of the entire agreement quote is required. If you decide to cancel 30 days prior to your event your deposit will not be refunded.

***Trials / Consultations for Bridal are suggested to have when you are going to a special event, photo shoot or even a night out so you trial does not go to waste. This also allows you to see how the products work/react to your skin. We create many looks to ensure you that you selected the best look that you are satisfied with for your BIG DAY. All trials are taken place in our private studio in Mississauga.

Brenda graduated with a Medical Esthetician license with over 7 years of experience in the Beauty/Fashion/Film Industry. Brenda is also highly trained in Airbrush and Traditional Make-up applications, Hair, and Eyelash Extensions.

She is currently our Key Trainer and Recruiter at Muah and our overall Beauty Guru.

May - Co-Founder

May graduated with a Make-Up Artist Special FX program with over 7 years of experience in the Beauty/Fashion/Film Industry. May is also trained in Airbrush and Traditional Make-up applications, Hair, and Eyelash Extenstions.
She is in charge with all things pretty including all the social media handles.We like to consider her your virtual BFF.

She is currently travelling back and forth from Los Angeles and Toronto where she is an online beauty educator and teaches beauty tutorials on her YouTube Channel.

Everyone is a work in progress, that includes us. We have a team of professionals to work closely with you to create "your look".

Celebrities with and without makeup

I'm sure you've seen some of your favourite celebrities without make-up and wonder.... What the ? Our eyes naturally get familiar with " first impressions" If you meet anyone in that matter, celebrity or not, we tend to recognized the initial physical look. Do these celebrities drop off the "Hot List to Not list"?

Most celebrities have Glam Squads that beautify them to perfection! It's only fair that their team do what they are hired to do best; which is why these fabulous ladies are always looking fabulous!

Our eyes cater to first impressions so whether it be their best show or not, it really isn't fair to judge. If you meet a women at the gym or local grocery store shes just your average looking gal, then you find her at a local club all dolled up shes a knockout! Or you get the reverse situation, you meet her at an event all dolled up, a knockout then you run into her at the gym and she's just "meh".

Remember, makeup should only enhance our features so its only obvious that we are "enhanced looking" Yes, I agree, make-up may do wonder.

Jessica Simpson is one of my faves without makeup. Maybe its due to her Newlyweds show that I got used to it....hmmmmm

Kim Kardashian does do a transformation only because her makeup is dramatic with the smokey eye but nonetheless I still find her gorgeous.

Katherine is still a knockout in my books.

Teenage Make-up

A lot of of young ladies have been messaging me in regards to what is "Age Appropriate Make-up" To be honest, I stand by this very strongly... Less is ALWAYS better. I believe there isn't a specific age where you should start applying make-up. Since cosmetics in general is a lot more popular than the time I was growing up, girls are having the interest of starting to appreciate make-up at an earlier age. Sometimes when I am working, I noticed very young girls patiently watching me while I apply makeup. A lot of the times, the would even start asking me a lot of questions. I even get girls asking me make-up questions at the age of 3!

I always recommend that everyone should take care of their skin, drink lots of water and follow a daily skin regimen. Since there are many different lines of skincare/products out there, try different products to see what works best for you. A clear canvas is always the best way to start any make-up application. Try starting with something simple, eye-liner, blush, lipgloss etc. Slowly you can incorporate other products such as foundation and concealer if you really feel the need to. I always think its best to allow your skin to breathe, cover-up such as foundation or concealer should be considered during special events or worn at minimal if you are starting at a very young age.

Meet my client " Jane" 17 year old beauty, never wears make-up, look at her, why should she. Since she was attending her prom she allowed me to be a little bit more creative and apply more make-up than she normally wears. I decided to just focus on her eyes, she did request that her make-up look natural but would like to have dramatic eyes. She never wears makeup especially foundation so she wanted something light on her skin, nothing cakey and over done. She still wanted to feel like herself.

What we used:

Face: Waterbased Kett Foundation ( Airbrush ) , Setting with Kett No Colour Loose Powder.

Cheeks: Kett Airbrush Blush in Angel

Brows: MAC Cork Eye Shadow

Eyes: MAC Carbon Eyeshadow from lid and blended it out to the top, Highlighted the Brow Bone with Anastasia Brow Crayon in Nude and set it with MAC Shroom Eye Shadow on top. Make-up Forever Aqua Black Cream Liner and a set of false lashes.

Lips: She went with a nude lip, but we took this photo before that oops!

Extreme Eye Lash Extensions

Muah is pleased to add Eyelash Extensions to our list of services. Trained by the global leader in eye lash extensions Extreme Lash. We will be providing the service at both locations (Woodbridge and Mississauga) by appointment only.

About the Procedure

Extreme Lash Semi - Permanent Eyelash Extentions re single strands of synthetic lashes that are attached one-by-one to your own natural lashes. Each synthetic strand is tapered at the tip with a thick base and curled to replicate a natrual lash.

Extreme Lashes Lash Stylist meticulously and delicately attach one lash extention, to one natural lash, one at a time for a total of 60 to 120 lash extentions per eye.

Procedure

Cleints are comfortably reclined on an esthetics bed or massage table with their eyes closed, and lower lashes are covered to prevent the top lashes from adhering to the bottom lashes. The procedure is often referred to as "Beauty Sleep" as it is non-invasive, painless and so relaxing that clients typically then awaken to lush, beautiful lashes.

During the application, the Extreme Lashes Lash Stylist will isolate one natural lash and attach one Xtreme Lashes lash extention to the isolated hair about 1mm from the eyelid so that none of the eyelashe extentions actually touch the skin or stick to each other.

Duration

The procedure typically takes anywehre from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on the expertise of the lash stylist and the number of lashes being applied per eye.

The look can last indefinitely with 45-60 minutes Re-lash appointments every 3 weeks. Like your scalp hair, naturally eyelashes grow and shed in a cycle, which is typically about 60 days (2months). When a natural eyelash matures and falls out, a new eyeash has already been growing and quickly replaces it. People typically shed between 1-5 natural lashes each day, depending on their individual growth cycle. When prperlu appled, an Xtreme Lash eyelash extendion will remain in place until the natural lash on whick it rests falls out. Re-lash appointments are neccessary to replenish the falled hairs and maintain the look.

MUAH Beauty at the Toronto Bridal Show

Muah Beauty decided to participate in this years Toronto Bridal Show held at the Direct Energy Centre from April 15 - 18, 2011. The team had an amazing time and had the opportunity to meet " Potential Brides" and give them the opportunity for a FREE make-over.

Our theme this year was to compliment Muah's colour scheme which is the lovely Black, Gray, White and Pink. The amazing Shaun helped us design our booth last minute, literally our show started at 5pm, we started shopping at 11am!!! We were extremely happy with the outcome and below I have attached some pictures.
