Celebrities with and without makeup

I'm sure you've seen some of your favourite celebrities without make-up and wonder.... What the ? Is it because it is we see them all dolled up and glamorous that our eyes seem to get used to that look so when we see the same celebrity au natural - they drop off the "Hot to Not" list?

These celebrities have a great beauty team and it's only fair that their team do an amazing job so we should expect only the best results.

I just think our eyes just cater to the first impression so whether it be their best show or not, it really isn't fair to judge. Someone can get many praises if you meet a female at the gym sweaty with blemishes and then see her at a local club all dolled up and find her a knockout! Which is great but it could be the other way around when you see them at the local club dressed to impress and then find them at the gym and then react the same way but only negatively.

Remember makeup should only enhance our features so, if you look better makeup, thats the whole point. Yes it can be extremely manipulative but hang on there. :P

Courtney Cox in my opinion at her age without makeup still looks stunning.

Jessica Simpson is one of my faves without makeup. Maybe its due to her Newlyweds show that I got used to it....hmmmmm

Kim Kardashian does do a transformation only because her makeup is dramatic with the smokey eye but nonetheless I still find her gorgeous.

Katherine is still a knockout in my books.

Big transformation! With a beauty Team as J Lo's its only right she looks this damn good! Money well spent but even her natural look still a beauty.

Jennifer Garner is one of my favourite Natural Beauties.

A lot of of young ladies have been messaging me in regards to what is "Age Appropriate Make-up" To be honest, I stand by this very strongly... Less is ALWAYS better. I believe there isn't a specific age where you should start applying make-up. Since cosmetics in general is a lot more popular than the time I was growing up, girls are having the interest of starting to appreciate make-up at an earlier age. Sometimes when I am working, I noticed very young girls patiently watching me while I apply makeup. A lot of the times, the would even start asking me a lot of questions. I even get girls asking me make-up questions at the age of 3!

I always recommend that everyone should take care of their skin, drink lots of water and follow a daily skin regimen. Since there are many different lines of skincare/products out there, try different products to see what works best for you. A clear canvas is always the best way to start any make-up application. Try starting with something simple, eye-liner, blush, lipgloss etc. Slowly you can incorporate other products such as foundation and concealer if you really feel the need to. I always think its best to allow your skin to breathe, cover-up such as foundation or concealer should be considered during special events or worn at minimal if you are starting at a very young age.

Meet my client " Jane" 17 year old beauty, never wears make-up, look at her, why should she. Since she was attending her prom she allowed me to be a little bit more creative and apply more make-up than she normally wears. I decided to just focus on her eyes, she did request that her make-up look natural but would like to have dramatic eyes. She never wears makeup especially foundation so she wanted something light on her skin, nothing cakey and over done. She still wanted to feel like herself.

What we used:

Face: Waterbased Kett Foundation ( Airbrush ) , Setting with Kett No Colour Loose Powder.

Cheeks: Kett Airbrush Blush in Angel

Brows: MAC Cork Eye Shadow

Eyes: MAC Carbon Eyeshadow from lid and blended it out to the top, Highlighted the Brow Bone with Anastasia Brow Crayon in Nude and set it with MAC Shroom Eye Shadow on top. Make-up Forever Aqua Black Cream Liner and a set of false lashes.

Extreme Eye Lash Extensions

About the Procedure

Extreme Lash Semi - Permanent Eyelash Extentions re single strands of synthetic lashes that are attached one-by-one to your own natural lashes. Each synthetic strand is tapered at the tip with a thick base and curled to replicate a natrual lash.

Extreme Lashes Lash Stylist meticulously and delicately attach one lash extention, to one natural lash, one at a time for a total of 60 to 120 lash extentions per eye.

Procedure

Cleints are comfortably reclined on an esthetics bed or massage table with their eyes closed, and lower lashes are covered to prevent the top lashes from adhering to the bottom lashes. The procedure is often referred to as "Beauty Sleep" as it is non-invasive, painless and so relaxing that clients typically then awaken to lush, beautiful lashes.

During the application, the Extreme Lashes Lash Stylist will isolate one natural lash and attach one Xtreme Lashes lash extention to the isolated hair about 1mm from the eyelid so that none of the eyelashe extentions actually touch the skin or stick to each other.

Duration

The procedure typically takes anywehre from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on the expertise of the lash stylist and the number of lashes being applied per eye.

The look can last indefinitely with 45-60 minutes Re-lash appointments every 3 weeks. Like your scalp hair, naturally eyelashes grow and shed in a cycle, which is typically about 60 days (2months). When a natural eyelash matures and falls out, a new eyeash has already been growing and quickly replaces it. People typically shed between 1-5 natural lashes each day, depending on their individual growth cycle. When prperlu appled, an Xtreme Lash eyelash extendion will remain in place until the natural lash on whick it rests falls out. Re-lash appointments are neccessary to replenish the falled hairs and maintain the look.

Muah Beauty decided to participate in this years Toronto Bridal Show held at the Direct Energy Centre from April 15 - 18, 2011. The team had an amazing time and had the opportunity to meet " Potential Brides" and give them the opportunity for a FREE make-over.

Our theme this year was to compliment Muah's colour scheme which is the lovely Black, Gray, White and Pink. The amazing Shaun helped us design our booth last minute, literally our show started at 5pm, we started shopping at 11am!!! We were extremely happy with the outcome and below I have attached some pictures.

2010 Season Begins

As the Muah Team begin our 2010 season, we have begun our trials and meetings with our prospective clients. Trials may be booked in two of our locations, Scarborough and Mississauga. Our schedules are booking up fast so make sure you submit your inquiry asap, as we are expected to be busier then last year.
2009 season we had many events all around the gta and others that had taken us as far as Bolton, Hamilton and Niagara Falls. We are still extending our services to many areas outside the gta please inquire for pricing. Muah has learned from many of our previous clients, that there are limited sources for artists and stylists in the Niagara Region and was relieved that we travel that far. It was a great opportunity for us to be able to witness the most beautiful moments and great scenery of the falls.

Choosing the right Foundation

Some foundation tips to take in consideration when choosing one.

If you forget to remove your makeup before going to bed, we all know that its not good for your skin. I'm sure we get really lazy, especially after a long night of partying, who really wants to take that extra 5 mins or so to clean up that mess ( Cleaning / Moist towels may be your best friend at this point - but do a proper cleanse in the morning) .

Most modern foundations not only moisturize skin, but also protect it from harmful environment. Most foundation creams contain solar-control factors – (SPF, Titanium Dioxide)it's very important to protect your skin with SPF - especially in the Summer and Winter. Sun exposure increases and helps age lines, spots, wrinkles - the whole nine yards. You will notice women that are in very hot sunny places are likely to have more lines than someone who doesn't - with the exception of " cosmetic surgery". Any form of cosmetic applied to the skin is basically protection for that area such as foundation (face) lipstick (lips) etc.

Stick Foundation: Most stick foundation is a " All - In - One" thing. Concealer foundation and set powder. Normally, its good with the coverage and it's quick application. Good for someone that is on the go and needs minimal make-up. ( Perscriptives, Bobbi Brown)

Cream Foundation: Some cream foundations can be used as concealers because its very rich and thick. I would say cream foundation probably has longest lasting than the other foundations. It can be heavy and cakey at times. It's really depends which ones you buy. Every make the consistency and ingredients are different so results will vary. Nowadays, most cream foundation contain silicon, which means it does not stick directly to skin but rather creates a tiny layer over the skin, protecting it allowing air to circulate. Also most brands, the pigmentation is very fine that it's hard to clog pores like the old traditional foundations. So, not all creams clog pores. Thanks to the new modern creams. (RCMA, Cinema Secrets, Make-up Forever, Clinique)

Mousse Foundation: Mousse foundation is a cream foundation in a whipped consistency. It gives a lighter coverage than cream foundation and its also good on mature skin because mousse foundation doesn't settle in fine lines. The finish is mostly matte but it leaves your skin very velvety. ( Maybelline)

Liquid Foundation: Liquid foundation is probably the most common and popular of the choices because it pratically works on everyone. Liquid foundation gives good coverage, you can get them to light - medium full) and there are many formulas to choose from ( water based, silicone etc) and types ( matte finish, dewey finish, oil free etc) ( Make-up Forever Face and Body, Vincent Long Water Canvas, Perscriptives, Revlon, and Cover Girl)

Tinted Moisturizer: Tinted moisturizer is basically a moisturizer with some colour/pigmentation in it. It's ideal for someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup but just wants to even out their skin. ( MAC, Almay)

Cream to Powder: It is used recommended for oily skin since it sets to a matte. It's fast and convenient and a fast alternative to liquid foundation. (MAC, Smashbox)
Powder Foundation: Is a powder that is heavier on the pigmentation to give more coverage than a blotting / press powder. It's ideal for someone who is shiny/oily and just needs to eliminate shine and even out the skin tone. ( Make-up Forever and Smashbox wet/dry)

So here I am with an update and some product reviews as promised. It's been a hectic couple months with bridal season but slowly coming to an end. Check out our gallery for some of our Weddings.
Muah recently participated in The Miss Asia Pageant doing make up for all the contestants. Congratulations to all the ladies that placed. Muah will again be apart of the Elle Magazine & Lise Watier Canada Tour in the fall.

My clients often ask me what kind of foundation I use for myself. Because I do air brush they assume that every time I put on make up that's what I use. Air brush takes time to apply and very time consuming to clean the gun. so I don`t use it on myself much. On the rare occasion I do but this is whats in my personal kit.

Make Up Forever Face & Body foundation $38

Water based water proof light weight foundation is great for everyday use. I absolutely love it, its a satin finish with a natural coverage for normal skin types. I use Chanel press powder to set. It comes in 19 shades so easy to match your tone.

Shu Uemura Mini Eyelash Curler $20

This tool makes a mua`s work easier. The hardest party of applying make up is curling the lashes. Everyone has a different eye shape and its almost impossible to curl a small eye with the regular curler. This one is half the size of a normal one and I can curl all eye shapes. Found at Sephora or Holt Renfrew.

Maybeline Great Lash Waterproof

I`ve done my share of testing out mascaras and always seem to come back to this one. This product has been on the market for decades. Does not clump and super waterproof. I sometimes have a hard time taking it off.

YES!! finally an update, Many of you have probably been wondering what us mua's have been up to. Well as you know, its bridal season and we have been extremely busy preparing our brides for their big day. This weekend especially, booked for I think 4 weddings and some other small events, it's keeping us on our toes.

Plan Ahead Tip - Trial White Top

When you have set up your trial, try to wear a white top ( or a top close to the shade of your dress ) so when the finished look is done you can see how it compliments the white.

This will also see how the colour of the dress and make-up/hair will compliment the overall look.

I am not a huge fan of Skin Care but when I got samples of these products, I absolutly fell in love and hooked. I give these products 10/10 hands down! Not sure of the product, try investing in their trial / travel packages. There are many different packages you can try before commiting to this product. Buying them in sets is ideal as you get a better value for your money.

Price Tag is a little up there, but so worth it. It actually goes a long way! My Two most favourite products!

It's been awhile since we updated. May and I have been wrapping up our bridal events and currently conducting trials for next years season. YES I'm talking about 2009 Bridal Season. It seems soo far away to many but for future brides it's not early enough. We book our weddings around six months prior to the day.

Winter for most MUA's are fairly quiet that's why its the best opportunity for us to start shooting again. I recently did my first photoshoot in months a few weeks ago and I can't tell you how much I missed it. It's this rush of excitement to watch as the model that you just made up is strutting her stuff in front of the camera.

4:30 am - November 22 2008 - It was extremely cold mind you but I was up and ready to go! Dao did their beautiful hair and I had the honour to do their makeup. Everyone one 6 Bridal party had to be ready hair and makeup before 9:00 am. How I love my work. I had the honour to do this Wedding Party. This is probably the most loudest and impulsive wedding I have done. The ladies, the Bridal party was organized, but the gentleman decided to wing everything. They did do a very traditional Chinese wedding, so for the ones who are not familiar with it, I`m sure you will have fun reading the following =)

Meet the Bridal Party.

Below is Fred ( Groom ) with his Groomsmen waiting outside in the cold because they arrived 15 minutes early and the Bridal Party refuses them to enter in early! Poor Guys. What happens at most Chinese weddings is that the Bridal Party normally gives the Groomsmen a hard time to get to the Bride. In order to get the Groom to see his Bride, they have to do some simple or hard tasks. In this case, this Bridal Party went quite extreme and made Fred really
earn it!

One of the task was passing the seaweed paper, mouth to mouth to the other 4 Groomsmen. Let`s just say the sheet gets shorter as it goes down the line and eyewitness say one couple did receive a kiss.

Second task was to..... I`m still gagging from this - is having the Groomsmen brush their teeth with WASABI. I`ve been told that this is a very popular task a lot of weddings play - I can see why! This gentleman is not enjoying this at all, out of the 5 of them the ladies let just 2 groomsmen do this task. How nice. This is basically to show what the Groom would do for his Bride.

Maybe its a candid moment, or is this Groomsmen enjoying this...

This is probably one of their more simpler task - a math question.

The Groomsmen are forced to wear diapers.

and sit on the Grooms lap and be fed baby food... strawberry jam mixed with sour cream...

This was to show that the Groom was prepare for parenthood.

These ladies are still torturing this group and insisted that these men have their legs waxed to understand what women do in general to maintain our looks. Each young men now has a hairless patch´or strip on their legs.

This task was intentionally for the Groom, but he told them that he was allergic to everything they offered to him. Lucky for him, one of his Groomsmen stepped to the plate and took this task on his behalf. This brave Groomsmen had to - get ready for this - to eat something hot (a pepper), bitter (ginger), sour and sweet (maple syrup) to prove he was willing to endure the hot, bitter, sour and sweet times of their marriage.

A very lucky number is 999, here we witness the Bridal Party requesting $999.99 which they convinced them that they do not have. After a while the Bridal Party excepted $99.00

They just paid themselves to walk up the stairs - as they were getting closer they had to serenade to her. They all tried to harmonized to `I`ll make love to you `by Boyz II Men.

And finally, the Bride is ready and missed everything that was going on outside of her room.

Susan - the Bride - decided to have soft romantic curls pinned to one side with slight volume on top. She uses a flat rhinestone accessory on one side and pinned small accessories throughout her hair. Her make-up was very natural with nude lips and a soft smokey with dark grey and purple.

After he picks her up, they go downstairs and have a traditional tea ceremony on the Bridal side and then drives to the Grooms house and have another Tea Ceremony for the Grooms side.

Game Time - Questionnaire.

I put her hair up and in a rhinestone headband to accomandate her wardrobe change. Darken her Smokey eye to a more dramatic eye, this time using black and gray. I touched her and her entire Bridal Party and changed the Bridal Party into a more evening look than the natural look they had in the morning.
