Election Day

Today is election day, I'm happy for two reasons. Firstly the amount of election related ads on television is amazing, the amount of money spent is unbelievable and I'll be happy to see the end of them. Today is a very important day for the USA and the results today (or if it takes that long tomorrow) will shape the country for a very long time.

The direction the country chooses today will put the country on a course that won't be easy to change.

Even though I'm not allowed to vote, since I'm only a tax paying Green card holder, I've watched along with interest in both the national and state elections in NY.

The amount of reports of false advertising and finger pointing would be funny if this wasn't very serious business. There seem to be very few checks and balances in what candidates are allowed to say in ads and the rules that companies have when advertising products and services don't seem to apply.

Both Obama and McCain have pledged election reform, and many of the rules and procedures for the election system date back many, many years. In the digital age we should be able to do a better job of distributing information and finding out more about our candidates, instead of relying on advertising done by their competition.

Since I'm not allowed to vote I won't say who I'm supporting, but will be watching along by the what is reported to be record numbers of people participating.

Moving to Wordpress?

For as long as I've had this domain its run on a custom CMS, but I'm thinking of porting the content and design over to Wordpress.

I've been using Wordpress on a few projects recently, and I've been very impressed with how easy its been to extend it past a raw blogging CMS.
Add in the hundreds of plugins that have been written for Wordpress and maybe I'm just lazy but you can get a website to do just about anything in minutes.

As part of my daily ritual I visit a lot of sites to see if they would be appropriate for one of my many design galleries. I'm sick and tired of my browser being resized, and it is a sure fire way to make me leave your site without even considering it.

If a website doesn't fit into my current browser I know how to scroll, and even know how to resize my browser, you don't have to do it for me. What makes thing even worse is that most time my browser is large enough to fit the website, but my browser gets messed with anyway.

I know I can use Firefox to stop the Javascript that allows the browser to be resized, but I use that feature myself when testing to see how designs will look at different screen resolutions.
