…a phrase you don’t often hear when you are sat at your desk working through stuff in the leafy Bedfordshire countryside, well not since the days the place was part of the Royal Aircraft Establishment until the 1980′s anyway. But that was the content of a one-line email shared around the businesses at Millennium Studios, where we are based, courtesy of Rob Ferguson at Transcend Records.

Due to some noise restriction admin (!) and I guess the desire not to lift two ton of gravel into the surrounding cars and buildings, it eventually landed further across the old airfield at Bedford Autodrome where they have a bit more space and more than a passing interest in high-performance machinery. A few friends of the crew, visitors from our end and the Palmersport team gathered to have a unique up-close-and-personal around this serious bit of kit with its array of guns, pods and countermeasure gubbins. It was nice and dirty too, not all airshow buffed and puffed.

Whilst not planned, it was also a pleasure to do a favour for Palmersport and get some shots of their team looking around it. This then quickly escalated into a mini “Top Gear” challenge seeing how quick they could fire up a BMW M3 from the workshop to get in some shots before it left – fair to say it was a close call! (well done Nige). Got some neat shots of the Apache rearranging the newly mown verges and flirting the info-boards by the track into the distance with the car before it buzzed the crowd and disappeared over the horizon.

Chuka Umunna, Member of Parliament for Streatham and Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, visited Milton Keynes on 8 March 2013 as part of a (South East Midlands Local Economic Partnership) SEMLEP Q&A with MK Business Leaders on business and the economic issues facing it, as part of the SEMLEP supported Business Expo 3.0 event.

It was our pleasure to capture a small selection of formal images and reportage of the private event to support their press and PR activity.

Milton Keynes is a UK centrally located, fast growing business hot-spot. But this brings a range of challenges as well as opportunities and with the public support infrastructures in a state of flux over recent years, an initiative to help promote B2B activity has been taken up by local entrepreneur Victoria Beale by driving forward the first Business Expo 3.0 held at Stadium MK.

The event, opened by Lord Younger, took place on 8 March 2013 with over 100 exhibitors and 1000 registered visitors enjoying free talks, workshops and entertainment alongside a range of stands.

We were delighted to be asked to document this business event to showcase the key moments and vibe as part of their ongoing promotional strategy. See full gallery of Business Expo 3.0 images 

We also documented the Local Economic Partnership SEMLEP’s event bringing together key business leaders to listen to Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna and a panel of Labour politicians to talk about the challenges facing business.

HRH was given an update by CEO Iain Standen on the first phase of the Park’s exciting renovation programme starting in 2013, before talking to Eileen Johnson, who worked with Alan Turing in Hut 8 and viewing an Enigma machine and other artefacts specially removed from display for the occasion. She then sat down with a number of small groups of veterans, still in the local area, to hear their stories and find out more about their lives and roles during the war.

Our aim was to capture some of the intimacy and interest shown in amongst the many people, media and visitors following her around. Hopefully we will have captured most of the veterans enjoying their day as well as these more candid moments, but that will be in gallery to follow.

Having been privileged to over-hear a number of the conversations it was clear HRH could have spent a much greater time chatting to these very sharp, intelligent and humorous ladies for a lot longer than her schedule allowed. After she had departed they enjoyed a celebration high-tea and tour of the Park ahead of its restoration programme starting.

To be working with Sarah Abbott “MW” is a pleasure, especially as she is growing and evolving her range of services around her vision, a little like we are, so the idea of using unique powerful images to help this process is a shared experience and journey. As her services include events, bringing together either experts or those in the pure pursuit of wine enjoyment, we have been working on both define and document strategies to help communicate key ideas in an interesting way.

defining – as her stock-in-trade is communication based on knowledge the plan was to capture Sarah, as the individual and expert along with the tools of her trade in an artistic and engaging way, capturing heritage, spirit and emotion, a little like wine appreciation itself, without being too literal and predictable. Working with a loose collection of objects including rare wine bottles, shot in natural light, a series of images were created for use in her business materials going forward.

documenting – besides the personal writing and consulting, Sarah runs a wine-tasting events company “Swirl Wine Events” – we have created images from the local Bedford Wine Festival and a trade tasting with the Lurton Du Vin family held at the prestigious RAC building on Pall Mall to illustrate the gathering and shared enjoyment wine appreciation and promotion brings (gallery to follow)

With new wine education offerings and some exciting decorate ideas with imagery in development we look forward to growing business with her.

To celebrate this and raise funds for Bletchley Park, games producer Winning Moves, with the brains and help of supporter Chris Owen, have produced an official Limited Edition “Alan Turing” version of the famous “Monopoly” game.

As part of our ongoing provision of image services to Bletchley Park it was our great pleasure to create, from their museum archive, a high resolution image of the original hand-drawn Monopoly board by William Newman, son of Turing’s mentor, (upon which Turing famously lost!), a replica of which is included in the box-set.

This set features many places and references to the life and work of Turing, complete with many direct and indirect links to the stories at Bletchley Park, where he developed his most influential work, with unique images and text woven into the traditional game including building Huts and Blocks instead of Houses and Hotels!

We were delighted to receive a freshly delivered boxed version to unwrap and here are a few images to give you a taster of this fun but also collectible high-quality item for fans of Turing, Bletchley Park and Monopoly!

Valued supporters Google generously funded the first 1000 sets and these are all but sold out on pre-order, but some are still available to buy at the Bletchley Park Shop…the perfect Christmas gift…!
