I have, however, been researching various Muktuk options, particularly how to get an ebook out. Turns out there a lot of ways to do it, and it’s easy to get lost in all the options, but I’ve made a lot of progress, and with any luck, I should have something out by early February. In fact, I just spent most of the day today writing the introduction. I’ve also concluded that trying to get an actual publisher to take this on will likely be an unremunerative pain in the ass, so I’m leaning pretty strongly towards self-publishing. When I have actual products to announce, I’ll send out a newsletter, so if you haven’t signed up yet, please do. Oh, and happy new year! May it bring you many blessings. Mind the Mayans, ok?

That’s because money is only one of the issues, and maybe not even the most important one, in self-publishing a print book. Once the money’s raised, I would have to get it laid up, printed, marketed, and distributed all myself, a time consuming endeavor in which I have very little experience or expertise. I understand that there are a lot of people who do this, some even successfully. But my personal history suggests I’m probably not one of them, or at the very least, I will have a steep learning curve. The mental image of thousands of copies of Muktuk Wolfsbreath stacked in boxes in my basement is not one I contemplate with pleasure.

That is why my first step will be to see if I can work with a genuine publisher. I should have a PDF ready later this week. An actual publisher, especially one that can give me some money up front, is, to me, greatly preferable to the DIY route. I know, it ain’t very punk rock. But over the years, if I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned what I’m good at.

After 3 months of pain-in-the ass struggle, I’m pleased to announce the availability of the Muktuk Wolfsbreath Hard Boiled Shaman: The Spirit of Boo paperback. Available now on Createspace and Amazon, this lush, full-color book has 124 pages of everyone’s favorite shaman, including the 3 original stories that appeared in Cud and Cud Comics. It really does look super-nice and even though it’s basically the same as the pdf, you can put it on your shelf, don’t need a battery to read it, and it might actually be accessible 20 years from now. Anyhow, I know there are a lot of folks out there who just like print. I’d be happiest if you got it on Createspace‘cuz I get a slightly bigger cut…every copy I sell makes it more likely I’ll do more!

Anyone want a page of original Muktuk art? All pages area manageable 11″x 8″ and they aren’t expensive–I’d rather sell them than store them. Please inquire!
