The Cupcake Room made these amazing little cupcakes that the guest got to take home with them. Yum!

The Boys apparently managed to sneak in a round of golf in the morning.When I asked for Rachel’s jewelry to photograph, she hadn’t quiet decided yet which pair of earrings she wanted to wear yet…. So I photographed them all! Crochen Bouche! A Friend made these delicious looking cheeses… YUM!There was even some Double Planking action!

I cannot stress enough how important the photography is. It’s a lasting reminder of your day, and you’ll be looking at these photos for years to come. So if you’re on a budget, try to allocate a good portion of your funds to photography and cut back in other areas. One regret some people have with their wedding photographers is that they go with the “standard five hour” package, which means they only have time to quickly capture a few table shots and faux cake-cutting before they had to leave. As a result they don’t have any professional pics of the first dance, the speeches or the farewell. So make sure you work out what you want captured on camera and allow any extra time you might need for this.

Let’s start with one of the biggies – one thing is definitely get out there and see quite a few photographers before deciding on The One. It gave you the chance to look at the different photography styles out there and find someone who you will get along and feel comfortable with and who offers a package in you price range.

The photographs of your wedding day should tell a story, from beginning to end, it is one of the most important days in your life. You want your photographs to be beautiful and memorable and something you will proudly display. So choose your photographer wisely. We hope that this helps you pick the right photographer for you.

Meet with photographers

This is fairly straight forward, it is important to meet your prospective photographer. You need to know if you get along with them, as you’ll be spending alot of time with them on your wedding day.  Make sure that you can trust them, you need to be confident that they will be there to capture those special moments of your wedding day.

When you meet with potential photographers, ask them to talk you through exactly what is included in the package, and how much you will need to pay for additional extras like framed prints, extra hours of coverage, albums, travel, and so on.

There are as many photographers in Sydney as there are fish in the sea. You need to find the one suitable for you. Before you meet with your prospective photographer, have a look at their blog/website, what does it tell you about their style and personality? Is that exactly what you are after, or do you have something else in mind?

Look at Portfolios

Before you go to see a photographer, check out their website. You’ll find galleries of past weddings they’ve shot, which gives you a good feel for their strengths and style.

When you meet with a photographer, the photographer will show you a portfolio of their best work. Their photobooks, albums, or website etc will always look nice and flashy, so don’t fall into the trap of “I want that and will get the exactly the same pictures as these ones”, remember that every wedding is different and the photographs will vary depending on the time of year, weather, style of your wedding, etc but the quality of the photos should consistent throughout the photographer’s portfolio and their blog.

Coverage

Photographers offer different package/hourly rate/final product. This can get somewhat confusing because everyone offers different options. Some photographers will offer full day coverage, hourly rates, prints, albums, photobooks and lots of other things.

Make a decision of what you would like before you approach a photographer. Often a photographer will be able to customize a package to your needs.

These questions may be helpful to you in deciding what coverage & extras your want:

How long do you need the photographer for (full day, ceremony & portraits, ceremony & reception or just the reception)?
What final product do you want your photographer to deliver?
Do you want a just DVD?
Do you want prints/canvas?
Do you want an album/photobook?
Do you want a engagement/pre-wedding portrait session?

Price

Pricing for photographers can vary greatly and your quote will depend on the coverage and any extras that you may want. You need to set a realistic budget for your photographer and stick to it. If a particular photographer is out of your price range, you may have to consider another one.  Some photographers will work around budgets for winter/weekday/unusual/different weddings. So it may be worth contacting a photographer if you love their work (even though it may be just out reach, you never know, they may customise to your needs) tell them a bit about your wedding, who you are and whether are you doing anything particularly special/unusual?

All of that aside and given that the photographer you are looking at is within your budget, discuss the coverage & extras you want from your photographer with you husband/wife to be. Once you’ve settled on something you will be ready to book.

Note: Many photographers do not put prices on their websites, they prefer to meet up with clients and discuss prices in person.
