This post is written as part of a journey inspired by the Heart and Stroke Foundation's My Healthy Weight Action Plan, an online tool geared towards helping you live a healthier life. Feel free to get caught up on previous posts: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 This week has been very challenging for me as I have pneumonia. I finally decided I had better get my behind to the doctor and I am sure lucky that I did. No wonder I've been dragging, feeling a serious lack of energy and not able to kick this cold that I've had since around January 7th! Here are the stats to show my progress in my "Get Healthy Challenge": Start Weight: 190 pounds End of Week 1: 185 pounds End of Week 2: 183 pounds End of Week 3: 182 pounds Starting BMI: 28.9 End of Week 1 BMI: 28.1 End of Week 2 BMI: 27.8 End of Week 2 BMI: 27.7 My goal is to reach a normal BMI which would be 24.9 at 164 pounds and from there, I plan to reassess. Valentine's Day is Coming...

I don't know about you, but I find that Valentine's Day creeps up on me too quickly! January tends to be a catch up month for me. It's about putting away holiday decorations, re-organizing, decluttering, cleaning and getting back to life as usual. I start to enjoy the less chaotic life and before I know it, it is Superbowl and then January is gone. There are only 14 days in February before Valentine's Day and those 14 days fly by. This year, I have already received so many emails in my inbox about Valentine's Day Flowers on sale, gifts for her and Valentine's Day crafts. I love Valentine's day but believe it or not, it's not because of Valentines Day gifts for her! In fact, I often tell my husband to skip the flowers and this year, he knows to stay far, FAR away from the chocolate. I love spoiling my family, the people I love, with fun homemade cards, crafts and fun Valentine's Day food. I tend to go all out with pink and red hearts and flowers EVERYTHING. So,...

My son is currently obsessed with fire trucks, fire fighters and all of the equipment that goes along with them. This is just one of the reasons why, Wubbzy and the Fire Engine on DVD is such a great show for him! He is at the perfect age and has the specific interest in learning about that topic! One of the things that I love about Wow! Wow! Wubbzy episodes is how they incorporate various social skills into each one. Social skills are extremely important for preschoolers to learn as they prepare themselves for formal school experiences. Included in Wubbzy and the Fire Engine, there are lessons about helping out, working together and getting the job done. All of these skills are important to learn for success. Other Wow! Wow! Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli Slaw From Healthy Starts Here by Mairlyn Smith PHEc (Whitecap) I have never liked Brussel Sprouts, but who knew you could eat them raw! They taste great - especially in this slaw recipe. I am so excited to have found this recipe. I added cauliflower to mine as well. Ingredients: 1 lb (500 g) broccoli = one large bunch 1 cup (250 mL) Brussels sprouts ½ medium red onion 1 large red pepper 1 large orange pepper 2 large carrots, scrubbed well, unpeeled Dressing: ½ cup (125 mL) apple cider vinegar – pure apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp (30 mL) extra virgin oil 1 tsp (5 mL) grainy Dijon mustard 1 tsp (5 mL) honey To make your life easier you really need to make this with a food processor. What better day than Family Literacy Day than to feature a super cute children's book that you can read with your family. How Do You Feed a Hungry Giant? A Munch-and-Sip Pop up Book by Caitlin Friedman is an adorable, well constructed pop up book for children. This book is about a young boy named Oscar who finds himself with a challenge: How do you feed a hungry giant? Oscar opens his door one day to find a VERY HUNGRY giant in his yard. Oscar uses his creativity in attempt to feed this giant, but he ends up emptying the entire fridge. Tackle it Tuesday: Finding Healthy Recipes

I've often thought that "healthy recipes" didn't taste as good as regular ones, but boy was I wrong! I've been on a hunt for some healthy recipes to make for myself and my family these past couple of weeks and I am happy to report that I have found some. As you may or may not know, I've been on a "Get Healthy" Challenge using the My Healthy Weight Action Plan on the Heart and Stroke Foundation website. You can read about my experience here and here.
