This post is written as part of a journey inspired by the Heart and Stroke Foundation's My Healthy Weight Action Plan, an online tool geared towards helping you live a healthier life. Feel free to get caught up on previous posts: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 Here are the stats to show my progress in my "Get Healthy Challenge": Start Weight: 190 pounds End of Week 1: 185 pounds End of Week 2: 183 pounds End of Week 3: 182 pounds End of Week 4: 179 pounds End of Week 5: 179 pounds Starting BMI: 28.9 End of Week 1 BMI: 28.1 End of Week 2 BMI: 27.8 End of Week 3 BMI: 27.7 End of Week 4 BMI: 27.2 End of Week 5 BMI: 27.2 My goal is to reach a normal BMI which would be 24.9 (the top of what is considered a "normal" BMI) at 164 pounds and from there, I plan to reassess. Walrooz Connectable Sled {REVIEW}

This winter has been the most unpredictable winter I can remember as far as weather and snow is concerned. We received a sled back in December for review and we have either been away, sick or the weather hasn't cooperated enough for us to be able to test it out. The sled has been hanging our garage, all lonely like this: FINALLY we received a decent snowfall and we are all feeling healthy! What a miracle. I don't know if it is because I neglected to remove the sticker prior to putting the sled in the cold garage or if it is just one of those stickers that is super sticky, but I couldn't remove the sticker without it looking terrible, so I chose to leave it on the sled. This sled comes in two sizes: adult and kid. This allows for an entire family to have fun sledding down snowy hills together. What a wonderful and exciting way to spend a wintery afternoon together! Author Mairlyn Smith was featured on City Line about a month ago. As soon as I heard about her amazing Grab and Go Breakfast Cookies and Brussel Sprouts and Broccoli Slaw, I knew I had to try out her cookbook! Mairlyn is a wonderful woman. She's an inspiration, she strives to be healthy, she is knowledgable AND she has wonderful recipes to share. Check out her website for more! Not only is it full of recipes organized by type of food, but it is also a good read as you can learn many interesting tips and facts about all kinds of food related topics. When I was in Grade 9 going into Grade 10, my parents sent me to Music Camp with a good family friend of ours. My parents were very hesitant to send me, but as well as being a tad nervous, I remember being SO excited! It was just at the time of my life when I really needed some time away from home. Camp was a great place to send me because it was away from home, it was supervised and it was a growing and learning experience for me. Not only did I get to play music for hours and hours each day, something that I absolutely loved, but I also had the opportunity to participate in numerous activities including swimming, archery and more. I remember having the time of my life that year at camp. I wish they had sent me more! I also remember feeling extremely jealous of my best friend who had the opportunity to go to Summer Camp every single summer. She continued to work at the camp after we turned 16, right through University. I remember feeling jealous of the friendships...

We Love to Read Scholastic Books! (REVIEW)

We love Children's Books in our house! New books enter our house almost weekly on top of the library books and school books. We have books in the kids' bedrooms, books in the kitchen and many, many books in the basement! We are always happy and eager to read new books together. It is a time to bond, a time to snuggle and a time have fun with reading! Recently Scholastic sent us a few books for us to read. The kids and I snuggled up on the couch together and read the books. Robert Munsch is a well known children's author. Children love him because of his humour. Have you ever heard Robert Munsch read aloud? His voice is SO animated and capturing! It's My Room, like all of Munsch's books, is written in a way that allows for wonderful expression when reading it aloud. The kids giggled throughout this story! Yesterday, I posted about how I was wrong about not wanting a gaming console in our house. I should have been more open minded about the whole thing! The only thing now that I wonder about is how much money this system is going to end up costing us! From the unit to the controllers, to the extra hard drive, a keyboard for the controllers and then the game, oh the games! At least I can look into deals like GameStop Coupons to help the financial hit of this system be a bit more reasonable! Maybe I could find a used game or free coupons that are for something I will actually use is always a good thing! We have only bought 3 games so far: Lego Star Wars (you can guess who that one was for!), Zumba and Dance, Dance Revolution. I'm finally starting to feel better and I just finished the antibiotics this weekend. I am happy to announce that although I did fall off the healthy eating horse (slightly) last week, I was able to jump back on board this week. As far as exercise goes, unfortunately this was another exercise free week. This week, I plan on getting back into exercising as I am feeling rather guilty for not doing it for 2 weeks. Last year, I started venuturing into cookie, cake and cupcake decorating. Without taking lessons, this was a challenge at first and by no means am I good at it, however with the help of a few amazing people online, I have been able to learn many great tips. One of my favourite blogs is I Am Baker. There are so many great tips on Amanda's blog along with some awesome video tutorials! The pictures are so beautiful and inspiring, she is one talented baker! Today, with permission, I am going to share with you this video about how to make good Royal Icing. I've tried many recipes, I've had icing floods all over my countertops (and floors) and I've had cookies with icing that never hardened, but this recipe and method is foolproof and it works!
