Traditional Costume for Chinese New Year

I am so happy today as it is Chinese New Year eve today! I have a week of long holiday!
I do nothing much on the house decorations this year but hubby and I definitely spring cleaned the house and cleared away a lot of kids toys, and old stuff.

Ok, back to the kids new clothes. I didn't shop for their Chinese New Year new clothes because I shop for them throughout the year :)

On top of that, they have new outfits bought by my SIL. They are traditional costume and very appropriate for Chinese New Year! Bought them from Metrojaya and the price is very cheap! Quality is good too!

Isetan I-Kids Club

We went to Isetan KLCC on 7th January. It was Kids World grand opening. I love this new Kids World. There are many new brands for apparels, toys and stationary. They even have Little glamour Parlour where girls can have grooming service like hair cut and manicure. I intend to purchase lucky bag but too bad all sold out. Anywhere we still have a great day and manage to catch some nice activities such as playing sand art and watched magic show.

There are many special events and activities on the opening day.

Last Day in Korea

This is the last post for my Korea trip 2010. I don't know why this post can be dragged so long.............

It was the last day ( 28 Nov 2010 ) so we did final round of shopping.

Settle with the shopping, we then back to the guest house to pack our luggage.

Bye Bye 2011 and Welcome 2012

Bye bye 2011 and welcome 2012. I have to admit how time flies and today is the second day of 2012. We didn't have any special celebration to welcome the new year. We just have a simple dine out among 4 of us. Then fireworks near my house started to explode when the clock strike at 12am. This was how we welcome the new year.

Back to this post. This is going to be a long one, to jot down stories that happened in December and months back which I don't have time to blog about it. I have gathered all the stories I left behind and all is wrap up here. Time is catching up. I am getting older I hope this blog is something for me to keep my memory alive.

Gifts and presents :

Ving Heng received this jacket from SIL. It is Trudy and Teddy .

Chloe's mummy gave this Pyssla beads set to Ving Yan long ago. We only started to play with it during this school holiday.

About Heng Heng:

His latest craze, Animal Kaiser cards. He likes to go to ( Tesco ) Scott Garden and Mid Valley to play with this machine. I don't know why he is so addicted to it. Maybe it is something about animals. But I am very amazed about the way he plays his own version of Animal Kaiser game. He doesn't play with the cards he has but he likes to use his animal toys to fight ( just like what is shown at the machine )

He still loves his Ultraman. I have bought him two sets of Ultraman puzzles. He likes it. He manage to solve both the puzzles himself. There is once he plays until fallen asleep.

United Buddy Bears at Pavillion

We went to Pavillion again a couple of days after this.

A must do for the kids here in Pavillion, the Carousel ride.

After lunch and a quick shopping, we left Pavillion. I drove out from the car park and something caught the kids' attention outside Pavillion. A lot united buddy bears. Many people are busy taking pictures with the bears and we also tried to take some pictures inside the car.

On Christmas eve, we went to Pavillion again. We did last minute shopping and Christmas presents. The mall is full with shoppers. I have never see Pavillion so packed before.

I made something today. It is a Christmas gift bag with a cute greeting card. To support green so I use recycle material. I didn't aware Mid Valley has come out with this Christmas publication until Judy told me about it.

I got this Christmas newsletter at Mid Valley Megamall. The newsletter not only stuffed with all the events regarding the Christmas festival but they have some cute stickers too. There is some pictures missed out in the publication. My kids have fun put the stickers back to it.

Courtyard @ Hereen, Malacca

We badly needed a short break, not only me but also the kids. So we packed and went to Malacca for a 2 days one night trip. We stayed in a boutique hotel called Courtyard @ Hereen.

It is situated in the heart of Malacca and a stone's throw away from Jonker Street. We also walked to some places of interest from this boutique hotel. The location of the hotel is superb!

I just love this Straits Chinese Inspired hotel. They have a total of 14 rooms and suites. There is an album in the lobby that contains pictures of all the 14 rooms. All the rooms are unique and blending old with modern design.

Nicely made beds. It is a deluxe family room with one queen bed and one super single bed. The room is very clean and new that we could put our shoes aside. I like the wooden floor instead of a carpet room.

We checked in during off peak season. We paid RM300 for the one night stay. Breakfast is included.

The hotel gave us this upon check in. A list of popular food in Malacca.

Some places of interest very near the hotel, so there is no need to drive around. This is important as the Malacca town is busy with its traffic and parking isn't easy.

We Met Santa in Sunway Pyramid

We went to Sunway Pyramid last Sunday. After watched the movie Puss in Boots, we went to have our lunch at Sakae Sushi.

While eating we saw Santa Claus passing by. Santa gave the kids some candies and asked us to go for the meet and greet session at the Pyramid concourse. Later a few dancers in beautiful costume also passed by and one of them gave the kids big lollipop one each.

They were supper happy.

Without delay, we went to the Pyramid concourse after finished our lunch. I like the beautiful 'Joyful Christmas' in Sunway Pyramid . You can take a lot of pictures with reindeers, Christmas trees, sleigh, wishing well and snowman.

Jake & The Never Land Pirates Party

We attended Disney Junior's Jack & The Never Land Pirates Party last week.This cozy event was held at Marmalade Cafe located in Publika Shopping Mall, Solaris Dutamas.

Right after the blogger registration the kids were geared up to post for the camera. It was a pirate themed party so the crews were looking for the best pirate poser :)

Yan Yan was a little shy to pose.

Heng Heng is so pandai ( playful actually ) . He was intrigued by the pirates goods that displayed at the side table and kept playing until his turn to take picture. There the photographer got this nice shot for Heng Heng. Heng Heng won second prize for the pirate pose photo contest.

Next up was treasure hunt ! All the clues are given and nicely printed.

After that the children watched a new episode of the Jack and His Never Land Pirates.

Brunch was nicely presented. Beautiful pirate themed food were assembled such, ship hotdogs, Never Land palm tree sandwiches, Captain Hook chocolate cake just to name a few.

Let's take a close up look at the food. I was trying my best to zoom at the food to get the best shots with my Panasonic Lumix LX5, the semi pro DLSR while most other bloggers use their DSLR. Okay, the pictures of mine also not bad lah :)

This was all about the great party we had attended! It is certainly gives me an idea how to make a special themed party for the kids. You can get more inspiration from Disney Junior website. You can print Jack and The Never Land Pirates print-and-fold treasure chests and gold doubloons , invitation cards, coloring pages and many more stuff from its website. They even give you the idea on what food to serve and its recipe.

Kids Outing

It is school holidays now and so far we have two outings with friends. Yan Yan was thrilled to meet her friends who are not from her school.

A. ) 29th November 2011@ Megakidz

We went to Megakidz at Mid Valley. Yan Yan and Heng Heng had a fun time there playing with Terry. Judy is rather busy after she back for her working life. Its been awhile since the kids last meet up. One thing is good that Judy and I still catch up with each others almost everyday via MSN. It was really good to see our kids played together.

We purchased the entrance tickets from Everyday. Yan Yan is big enough to play all the games there except one big and tall spiral slide. For Heng Heng he is daring to try out everything ( except any spiral slides ) . But sometimes he was terrified and hanging halfway when he was trying to climb down. He actually could landed safely by further strengthen his legs. So Yan Yan was there to help him (pulled his legs down a bit to let him landed safely though he only left 1-2 inches to touch down)

B.) 2nd Dec 2011 @ Smaland

This time we meet up with Chloe.

After one hour, we picked the kids and went to The Curve for lunch.

These are the 21 items I bought from the Popular Chinese Books Clearance. Total spent is RM21. There are some story books, flash cards and activity books.

Closer look. The story books are mostly hard cover and they are all in good quality. This is my first time buying Chinese story books for the kids. Hope they love it.

Christmas Wonderland at Pavillion

We went to Pavillion on a Friday night. I was supposed to check at Gap outlet to see if I could choose RM400 worth of products to enter my two angels for the Gap Casting Call . At a glance I already spotted a shoes for Yan Yan and a pair of jean for Heng Heng. I was busy looking around in the shop, I could not find any others things I like. In fact I thought it can be easily hit RM400 by paying full price of clothes since there was no sale. But I just could not get any other things. Some more I have recently make some purchase at Gap.com and I feel more worth to get Gap Kid or BabyGap clothes online.

When I was still busy browsing around, Yan Yan already get attracted by the Christmas Wondering happenings at the center court. She bugged me to bring her down for the carousel ride, yup, she spotted the carousel ride from up.

I decided to skip the Gap Casting Call, good for me to save up my money.We then went down to the center court to join the Christmas fun.

The place get more merrier with the arrival of Dato' Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen. I think she was there to kick off the launching of 1Malaysia Year-End Sale (1MYES) 2011 which was held in the specially-built dome located beside Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Yan Yan wanted some more carousel ride. So happen Hong Leong Bank is having free ride promotion of its card members. So the lucky girl get to ride on the carousel again.

My sister is Hong Leong credit card user so she redeemed free ride coupon for Yan Yan.

My Little Helper

Yan Yan gets to help me more when she grows. But this is also very depends on her mood and what stuff to do. She likes to help me in the kitchen and some of the house works. She dislikes it when I asks her to get me somethings like pass me some tissue or get me my hand phone. She is now interested in helping me in laundry work. I am very particular when comes to washing our outdoor wear. I only want them to be washed by hands, with very traditional way and make sure to rinse 4 times in clean water.
Yan Yan finds it interesting and she offers to help me many times but I refuse. Until one day she got her chance to help me to do the rinsing part.
She is obedient and only do what is commanded by me. She never get her hands to play with the water at all. So I don't need to worry or stay by her side to watch her out. Once the rinsing part is finished, she even wants to help me hang the clothes.

I would not want her to help me in washing the clothes nor rinsing the clothes, it is tough for a little girl. Because of her determination and sincerely offer, I just no choice but to let her try. So far she has helped me a few rounds and she has did a very good job and never mess up. Double thumbs up for my little helper!

First Time Making Pancake

We made our first pancake at home the other day. I got a recipe from Yan Yan previous preschool principal. In fact I asked the principal to gave me the recipe because Yan Yan likes the pancake prepared by the preschool so much. I was supposed to try it at home but no plan until this school holiday has started and I am more free by now. Yan Yan was rather excited about the making.

The recipe :

flour - 300g
sugar - 3 table spoon
butter - 1 table spoon
egg - 2
baking powder - 2 table spoon
condense milk - 6 table spoon ( I substitute HL low fat milk 150-200ml for the condense milk )
salt
water

Steps:-

1) mix the eggs,sugar,butter,milk and baking powder
2) slowly mix the flour and water.
3) Keep for 2 hours and cook it. ( I didn't get to keep for two hours as the kids kept making noise and can't wait to eat )

Lucky the turn out is YUMMY!

I tried to cook one pancake first, because I was not sure if the battle is well prepared or not ( the amount of flour that I put was not as accurate as the recipe ). My first ever pancake tastes very good so I proceeded to cook the rest.

The little helper finally get to wait for her turn to cook. See her happy face. She was there with me the entire process. She kept offering to help, from breaking the eggs, pouring the ingredients to mixing the battle. She was by my side when I cook the pancake. Se wanted to try to cook as well. So I let her to try to cook on the last spoon of battle. She poured the battle into the pan and waited a while. Later she told me she could not turn it to the other side.

The Langkawi Cable Car

The Langkawi Cable Car is one of the famous tourist attractions in Langkawi Island. It is located at the Oriental Village. We have no luck to ride on this cable car during our previous visits. It was either the maintenance closure or closed due to bad weather that made us no chance to ride the cable car.

This time we were able to take the cable car ride to the top of Mount Mat Chincang.

Then we reached the middle station.We enjoyed the panoramic view of the main island as well as the many surrounding islands.But that is not enough... We continued our cable car ride and proceeded to the top station.

We need to walk down a flight of stairs rather far one before we could reach the skybridge.

It was great to be able to stand in the middle of the sky.

I was actually a little fear to look down , hehe. But for my kids, they could even stand one one leg up, so no problem for them lah.

White or Black

I like Gymboree clothes so much because they have coordinating accessories complete the apiece outfit, generating Gymboree kids distinctive from head to toe. Also not forget the high top quality.

There is once I was undecided which matching top to choose for Yan Yan's new skirt. This ribbon stripe skirt I have been eyeing at Gymboree website for so long. Until recently they mark down the price and I managed to grab one for Yan Yan.

This is another black bee top, which was chosen by hubby. I actually asked opinion from the father to choose which top to match the skirt.He chose this one.

Fried Bee Hoon

I uploaded some of my home cook food pictures in my Facebook. A friend asked about my fried bee hoon recipe. She wants a step by step recipe and the bee hoon that I used. In fact my cooking skill is not that good and I am 'paiseh' when she asks for my recipe.

Anywhere I post the recipe here for my own keepsake.

This is for Yan Yan.

Ingredients :

- One packet Golden Dragon brand bee hoon (rice vermicelli) , soaked in warm water for about 20-30 minutes till fully constituted
- 3-4 cloves garlic, chopped finely
- small onions, chopped finely
- carrot, cut to thin stripes
- cabbage, sliced
-dried shrimp
-mince meat / sliced meat
- 1-2 eggs
-fish cakes ( as sides)

soy mixture
- 200 -250ml water from soak dried shrimp
- 1 -2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- salt

Method:
1.Shallow fried the fish cakes. Set aside.
2. Fried the eggs, slice it into thin slices and set aside.
3. Heat the wok with oil,shallow fried the dried shrimp until golden brown color. Then use the remain oil to cook the meat. Set aside.
4. Heat the wok with 1 tbsp oil, and saute the garlic and onion till fragrant.
5. Add the bee hoon, carrot and cabbage. Then add the soy mixture making sure the bee hoon are well coated in the mixture so that you have even color and taste. Continue stir fry and add in the dried shrimp and meat.
6. Serve bee hoon in a plate and top with the previously cooked egg strips and fish cakes.

Revision

What is she up for the past 10 days? She is busy doing her revision for the second semester written assessment. This is the first time I have to guide her and coach her for the exam revision. She sat for her first exam in first term fromher previous pre school ( yup, she has changed to a school which is using FunGates system since June 2011) . The previous exam was held at her previous school without informing the parents hence no revision was done.

Why change school for Yan Yan ?

We love everything about her previous school. The school is not very academic base which I can accept it. I support children to learn and play and not to stress them. The only issue there is that they change the teachers very frequently until I can not tolerate anymore.

Ok, back to her revision for the exam.

Other than school works, she needs to do some extra works with mummy.

There is still mistakes here and there. Some of her common mistakes mixes up 'b' and 'd', '12' and '21' to name a few here..

This is the way she learns the math from the school, using counters.

She doesn't really understand what is exam, maybe wait till the actual day ( exam starts on 1/11/2011) then only she will know the idea what is exam. But she knows revisions means study time. A moment ago she told me that teacher said no TV for 7 days. I think that is all she knows about exam. One good thing is she never complaint about hands pain or tired whenever I ask her to do the questions that I set for her. She is very guai and follow my orders though sometimes I give her few sessions of revision in a day. I don't stress her actually. Each session of revision is just a short time only. She is very obedient girl. I rate her 10/10 for her good attitude.

Happy Deepavali

Tomorrow is Deepavali day. We are happy to have one day holiday though we don't celebrate this festival. We have nothing special plan for tomorrow. Most probably I will need to spare more time to coach Yan Yan for her upcoming exam in next week. What is your plan for tomorrow?

One of the essential decorations synonymous with Deepavali is the kolam. We spotted this kolam decoration with two beautiful peacocks at The Scott Garden, Old Klang Road a week ago.

Deepavali is not complete without a kolam.

The Smurf

La la la-la la la, Sing a happy song. La la la-la la la, Smurf your whole day long... We went to watch The Smurf at Sunway Pyramid weeks ago. The two kids are quite hooked since then. Heng Heng even asks for Smurf books. There we start looking for Smurf books. We manage to get some Smurf books from Borders and Kinokuniya.

Look Who Likes Sushi

She is none other than my sushi girl, Yan Yan. I have forgotten when she was first treated with sushi and when she started to fall in love with sushi. But her first love is tamagoyaki sushi. This can be explained because she loves to eat eggs a lot!

After a few times of visiting the sushi restaurants, she gets more exposes. Slowly her favorite sushi list is growing, some of her favorite is Tamagoyaki sushi, Unagi sushi, Takohachi sushi, Inari to name a few. Recently she even claims that she starts to learn to eat prawn by eating the prawn tempura ( she doesn't like prawn before this) . Other that sushi she also likes some other Japanese food ( fried version) soft shell crabs, fried squid and tori karaage and udon. We always limit her to eat the fried food. I have let her try sashimi but she wouldn't touch.

For Heng Heng, he doesn't fancy sushi at all. He only eats very little when we dine in sushi or Japanese restaurant. So we have to force him to eat more. He likes seaweed more than the sushi only :(

But he likes mochi.

Yeah, he also likes cawanmushi.

She also learn to use chopsticks now :)

I am a Japanese food lover too. I only started to like sushi and sashimi at the age of 20 something.... I did eat Japanese food very frequent during my two pregnancies. So I think Yan Yan inherits from me.

Alphabet Pasta

Alphabet pasta is a perfect menu for the kids. Yan Yan ang Heng Heng love this ABC pasta, this is how they call it. I have tried out a few methods to cook this pasta.

Fried one, the kids and the adults love it!

Today we have it in ABC soup. It is nice combination too BUT I still prefer the fried one which fit my appetite more :)

VTec V. Smile Game

I hardly buy any game gadgets for the kids...

My elder sister handed down a VTech video game for Yan Yan and Heng Heng long time ago. We let them played once but we found out they were still too young to play with the video game. Hence I keep them away until recently I take out the video game again. I think it should be the right time to play with this educational video game. Too bad the video game is not working anymore. We don't know what is wrong with it and I feel kinda wasted as they played once or twice only.

We get cheer up again while my second sister handed down another set of VTec game for us.

Two VTech V.Smile game at home, but one is not functional at all.

Both the kids enjoy the game very much.

Bubbles Time

Heng Heng is not good at blowing bubbles or balloon. His blowing skill is not good and always blow out with lots of saliva. This is because he normally uses all his might and strength to BLOW!

On Thursday, we have some bubbles blowing time, just Heng Heng and me. I blew the bubbles and he chase and tried to catch them. Later he wanna try to blow himself.

I tried to blow bubbles and snap picture at the same time, haha, not easy.

Later he wanted to blow the bubbles himself..

I taught him to blow gently in order to get more bubbles.

Look, he can blow better now!
