We’re about to hit wedding season and soon the flurry of activities around gowns, suits etc are going to abound.

If we played wedding bingo, we sure would certainly hear one bride or groom to be shout "it’s my day! My wedding day”!😂😂😂 So many people have made plans for their wedding, some have wisely been saving for the beautiful event. However how much becomes too much for a wedding? How much should be the maximum for a dress that will feature in a 40 minute ceremony tops or last about 7 hours in that one day? Is it necessary to invite every single person you’ve passed on the street? Would the world really end if the exact shade of balloons are not at the reception? Join us and share your thoughts with us. Colorism has always been a problem in the modern world where for a lot of people both male and female, the lighter skinned a person is, the more desirable they are.

There are a lot of conversations about how people choose who to partner with based on their complexion. There are also so many cultures that actively promote a lighter complexion as more desirable. There are many songs, advertisements, TV programmed and films which promote that the lighter skinned a person is, they are not only more desirable but they are also considered more beautiful, more talented, have better attributes and qualities. This understandably has caused a lot of inferiority in people and some have taken extreme measures to attain this desired complexion. Yet there are also so many people who make a conscious decision to delight and glory in their dark skin. Ironically, these days, more naturally light skinned people are doing everything to darken up their skin. These are the issues we’re discussing tonight on the MungalowCroonings Show. Are arranged marriages making a comeback? These were organised in the times of our parents where family or friends would look at two people they know and believe would compliment each other and they would convince one to date and engage the other. For many there’s the choice to continue after first meeting. However, in a lot of other cultures, these meetings were already sealed amongst the families and the couple would meet knowing that they would be married to the other within days or weeks.

With the dearth in love relationships, the distance that social media brings, the presence of COVID etc, many more people are opting for arranged relationships. The question is “do they work?”

Film is an avenue where people’s stories, experiences and culture are shared with an audience. It incorporates both drama and music, sometimes encouraging us to use other senses not associated with audio visuals. Hollywood for a long time, told us stories not just of the Americas, but also of our own culture. They found ingenious ways to tell stories which unfortunately weren’t usually true of ourselves – but as they say, “only the victor writes history”. Thankfully, Nollywood has now started to create a balance using our own experiences, culture and music to tell our stories more accurately to the world. Although, unfortunately, our stories are still tinged with influences from the West and we struggle to get away from it. Tonight’s discussion is looking at how far Nollywood has come, what needs to be done to take us further and what influences we need to shed. This is not an indictment on the hard work that so many talented movie makers are doing in Nollywood. It is actually an appreciation, using a critical eye for the growth and development of the industry.
