During the Fire Ban, the following activities are prohibited:
❌ Brush burning
❌ Burn barrels and incinerators
❌ Burning leaves, branches, and yard waste
❌ Fireworks and pyrotechnics
❌ Any other open-air burning conducted under a Burning Permit

The following activities remain permitted:
✅ Campfires used for cooking or warmth that are attended at all times and safely contained
✅ Outdoor cooking devices, including barbecues and similar cooking appliances

Residents are reminded to exercise caution with any permitted fire and ensure it is fully extinguished when no longer in use.

The Fire Ban will remain in effect until further notice.

Whether you’re heading to work, running errands, or enjoying a drive through the countryside, it’s important to remember that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Farm equipment often travels at slower speeds and requires extra room to turn, enter fields, and navigate roadways. When approaching farm vehicles, motorists are encouraged to slow down, watch for wide turns, pay attention to slow-moving vehicle signs, and only pass when it is safe and legal to do so. A few extra moments of patience can make a significant difference and help prevent serious collisions.

Farmers also play an important role in keeping our roads safe by ensuring equipment is visible, properly maintained, equipped with appropriate signage and lighting, and operated with care when entering, crossing, or travelling on roadways.

Agriculture is a vital part of our region’s economy and rural way of life. By working together and showing courtesy on the road, we can help keep farmers, motorists, and our communities safe throughout the busy planting season.

The Municipality of Huron Shores is inviting proposals from qualified contractors for the replacement of the roof system at the Huron Shores Recreation Centre located at 1 Chiblow Lake Road, Iron Bridge.

The project includes replacement of the existing roof system and related improvements identified through the Municipality’s engineering reviews. Optional alternative roofing system proposals may also be submitted for the Municipality’s consideration.

The Municipality is proceeding with the Request for Proposals process as part of its planned roof replacement project for the Huron Shores Recreation Centre. The Municipality intends to proceed with the project subject to confirmation of funding, final Municipal approvals, and project scheduling considerations.

While enjoying the outdoors this season, residents are encouraged to take simple preventative measures to help reduce the risk of tick bites.

✅ Tips to Help Prevent Tick Bites:
• Wear light-coloured clothing to make ticks easier to spot
• Wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes when possible
• Tuck pant legs into socks while walking through wooded or grassy areas
• Use an insect repellent containing DEET or Icaridin and follow product instructions carefully
• Stay on marked trails and avoid walking through tall grass and dense brush
• Shower or bathe after spending time outdoors
• Perform a full body tick check on yourself, children, and pets after being outside
• Place outdoor clothing in the dryer on high heat after being outdoors to help kill ticks
• Keep lawns and brush trimmed around your property to help reduce tick habitat

⚠️ What NOT To Do:
• Do not squeeze, crush, or twist the tick while removing it
• Do not use petroleum jelly, nail polish, gasoline, or heat to try to remove a tick
• Do not burn the tick with a match or lighter
• Do not handle ticks with bare hands when possible

These methods may increase the risk of infection or cause the tick to release more bacteria into the bite area.

🐾 Don’t Forget Your Pets!
Ticks can attach to pets and be brought indoors. Regularly check pets after outdoor activities and speak with your veterinarian about tick prevention products.

🩺 If You Find a Tick Attached:
Remove the tick as soon as possible using fine-point tweezers. Grasp the tick close to the skin and pull upward slowly and steadily without twisting. Clean the bite area with soap and water or rubbing alcohol after removal. Monitor for symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, or a rash, and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms develop. Residents may also bring ticks to Algoma Public Health for identification and testing information or submit photos through eTick Canada.
