Thank God that Iowa made the right choice (barely). I've always like Mitt Romney, and I feel that the country could use a member of the LDS church to turn things around. I may not agree with everything Mormons believe, but they generally are a hard working, ethical people. They have a strong belief system, and actually look out for the good of the whole, not the few (unlike some current leaders).

Let's keep the momentum going! If anyone can undo the damage done by the Obamantion leading our country, it's Mitt!

So.... while it is a bit extreme and I don't condone death threats (but I understand), do you think the point is getting across that people are unhappy with what our government is doing/has done? It won't be long before the big O himself is the proud recipient of a threat, of that I am sure.

Heard the latest catch phrase being tossed around? Apparently, Republicans are now known as Hatriots. I guess that's better than being known as a rampant socialist with delusions of grandeur ....

If believing that the government shouldn't force me to pay a private company for health care against my will makes me a Hatriot, then print me up a banner! If believing that letting the government control automobile and financial companies is a REALLY BAD IDEA... then make me a t-shirt!! I'll wear it!

But.... if there comes a day when we all have to do the goose step and shout "HEIL OBAMA!" ... you'll wish you had been a Hatriot, too.

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is "fluid" and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn't issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.
That's a disappointment, but not really a surprise for fishing industry insiders who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force. These angling advocates have come to suspect that public input into the process was a charade from the beginning.
"When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario," said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.
"Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the President. The current U.S. direction with fishing is a direct parallel to what happened in Canada with hunting: The negative economic impacts on hard working American families and small businesses are being ignored.
"In spite of what we hear daily in the press about the President's concern for jobs and the economy and contrary to what he stated in the June order creating this process, we have seen no evidence from NOAA or the task force that recreational fishing and related jobs are receiving any priority."

Consequently, unless anglers speak up and convince their Congressional representatives to stop this bureaucratic freight train, it appears that the task force will issue a final report for "marine spatial planning" by late March, with President Barack Obama then issuing an Executive Order to implement its recommendations — whatever they may be.
Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.
Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.
As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled "Transition Green" shortly after Obama was elected in 2008. What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper.
Then in late summer, just after he created the task force, these groups produced "Recommendations for the Adoption and Implementation of an Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes National Policy." This document makes repeated references to "overfishing," but doesn't once reference recreational angling, its importance, and its benefits, both to participants and the resource.
Additionally, some of these same organizations have revealed their anti-fishing bias by playing fast and loose with "facts," in attempts to ban tackle containing lead in the United States and Canada.
That same tunnel vision, in which recreational angling and commercial fishing are indiscriminately lumped together as harmful to the resource, has persisted with the task force, despite protests by the angling industry.
As more evidence of collusion, the green groups began clamoring for an Executive Order to implement the task force's recommendations even before the public comment period ended in February. Fishing advocates had no idea that this was coming.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, the New York Times reported on Feb. 12 that "President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities."

Morlock fears that "what we're seeing coming at us is an attempted dismantling of the science-based fish and wildlife model that has served us so well. There's no basis in science for the agendas of these groups who are trying to push the public out of being able to fish and recreate.
"Conflicts (user) are overstated and problems are manufactured. It's all just an excuse to put us off the water."
In the wake of the task force's framework document, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) and its partners in the U.S. Recreational Fishing & Boating Coalition against voiced their concerns to the administration.
"Some of the potential policy implications of this interim framework have the potential to be a real threat to recreational anglers who not only contribute billions of dollars to the economy and millions of dollars in tax revenues to support fisheries conservation, but who are also the backbone of the American fish and wildlife conservation ethic," said CSF President Jeff Crane.
Morlock, a member of the CSF board, added, "There are over one million jobs in America supported coast to coast by recreational fishing. The task force has not included any accountability requirements in their reports for evaluating or mitigating how the new policies they are drafting will impact the fishing industry or related economies.
"Given that the scope of this process appears to include a new set of policies for all coastal and inland waters of the United States, the omission of economic considerations is inexcusable."
This is not the only access issue threatening the public's right to fish, but it definitely is the most serious, according to Chris Horton, national conservation director for BASS.
"With what's being created, the same principles could apply inland as apply to the oceans," he said. "Under the guise of 'marine spatial planning' entire watersheds could be shut down, even 2,000 miles up a river drainage from the ocean.
"Every angler needs to be aware because if it's not happening in your backyard today or tomorrow, it will be eventually.
"We have one of the largest voting blocks in the country and we need to use it. We must not sit idly by."

Thought I would put a little more information out from the new Consumers Report magazine I received on 2 - 27- 10, that reflects their current and past testing of all cars and vans.

If anyone would like to review the complete statements from Consumers, go to Page 5 and also page 21 of the April 2010 issue. On page 5 they reported that there were no unintended acceleration issues that came up and they would not have thought any would, because of the small number of reported problems. The recalled models had all previously earned their buy recommendations because those models met or exceeded their individual testing parameters.

They also mentioned that any vehicle could experience unintended acceleration and suggested several things that can be done, including: braking firmly not pumping the brakes, put the transmission in neutral (my own addition; the car should immediately begin to slowdown),you should then be able to steer the car to a safe stopping area and then shut the engine off. If, when the transmission is put in neutral, you do not feel the car slowdown then you will have to make a quick decision about stopping the car with a more radical move. Leave the transmission in neutral and then turn the ignition off ( the engine will shut off so the brakes can slow it down). However, there are two important things that will happen:

1: The car will become very hard to steer but it can be done.

2: The brakes will also require more pressure to stop the car but it can still be done, this will allow the car to be brought to a stop with at least some control. I suggest that this procedure may have a more acceptable outcome than to travel with somewhat control at a higher rate of speed.

Also on page 5 you will note that the 2009 and 2010 Pontiac Vibe and its twin the Matrix ( manufactured by G.M.C.) are also being RECALLED for the same unintended acceleration problem!

On page 21 you will find a paragraph that lists the top and bottom models of the automotive manufactures from around the World.

TOP CAR COMPANIES:

12 models from Toyota

8 models from Honda

4 models from Nissan

BOTTOM CAR COMPANIES;

14 models from Chrysler

4 models from G.M.C.

6 models from European Companies

Yes, I use the information from Consumers to make my decisions on purchases that I will and do make. I find their information very helpful even when I may not agree with their findings.

Really enjoyed your information that you put in your Blog.....

You hit it right on the head. Your also correct that most people have no idea about economics, and don't want to know, because then they would be responsible for themselves and could not blame everyone else for their problems and expect everyone else to get them out of trouble......

I think that the government for whatever reason (maybe because it owns a good share of G.M.C. and Chrysler Automotive) is going after Toyota Automotive in an unrealistic approach!!!! The congressional meetings are only being conducted as a means of TARNISHING a foreign manufacturer as well as a car producer. Yes Toyota does build cars here in the U.S.A. and I would guess that every employee of those plants is very happy to be employed there, however, the outcome of this congressional meeting could effect the employment requirements here in the states.

If you spend a few minutes reviewing the Quality of Toyota automobiles and calculating the relationship 0f the frequency of problems with their automobiles to that of the number of automobiles produced the number of failures of quality is as good or better than the airplanes that we fly on. But remember, that airplanes have a quality standard that requires redundancy (2 of each systems) on every system used on a plane. I would also suggest that a review of the place of manufacture for any of the recalled vehicles be in order because the time frame that I am aware of puts many of the cars in the time frame of when production was introduced in the U.S.A.. Yes I am suggesting that Toyota Quality may have diminished once they moved the manufacturing out of their oversight. However, Toyota does not have the luxury of being able to, nor the will to suggest that possibility.............

The rate of quality rejects that Toyota is trying to maintain in it's cars, because of it's manufacturing culture which was started at the end of World War II and was taught to them by the United States during the rebuilding of Japan after the war, is based on "0" rejects. That means, out of the 8,000,000 plus automobiles being recalled today, they tried to produce "0" REJECTS.... If they have produced 1000 rejected vehicles out of 8 million cars the rate of rejects would be .00012 percent; if they produced twice as many rejects the rate would be .00025 percent. That is why Toyota and Honda automobiles have been the best ones produced for the past 50 years..........

You see, the problem with a retail and credit based economy is that it is not self sustaining. There was a time when America produced things of value, and the people producing those things saved up their earnings to purchase things. Then, through imports and cheap overseas labor, we stopped producing much of any real value. Oh sure, you can say we have the automobile industry, maybe some electronics, appliances, clothes manufacturers... but much of what is "made in America" isn't. It's "assembled" in America with much of what the items are made of coming from overseas.

Along the same time that much of this began came the offers of "cheap credit". No, this isn't a thing of the past 10 or even 20 years. It's been going on much longer than that, but has only come to a head in the past decade because a person's greed far outpaced their income. And with that, the greed of many financial systems also kicked in. After all, they are in the business to make money. They knew that a person's greed would blind them to the interest rates, hidden fees, etc, as long as they could get what they wanted now!!!! Got a new car 2 years ago? So what! You must get another one now!!!! Got a big screen t.v. in the living room? NOT GOOD ENOUGH! YOU NEED ONE IN THE BATHROOM, TOO!
Remember when, as kids, we played with sticks, card board boxes, rocks, wooden cars, G.I. joes (or Barbies)? Where was my iPod Touch!!!! Where was my X-Box360!! Where was my Facebook and Myspace! I was robbed of my childhood!!

As far as I can tell, my parents didn't go in to debt to buy toys, or cars, or to move to a house that was bigger than what we (a family with 6 kids) needed. How many kids today have their own bedroom? Most of them! There were 3 of us to a room. And we fit!

Greed. Pure and simple. I'm not talking about "keeping what is mine" that some ignorant people call greed. I'm talking about "I want what you have even though I didn't earn it and don't want to earn it and can't afford it" greed.

Wanting to hold on to what you earn isn't greed. Not wanting to pay for someone elses health care isn't greed. Who paid for mine when I needed it for myself or my family? ME! Who worked 2 jobs (sometimes 3) for years so my wife and I could try to raise a "traditional" family without milking the system? I don't expect America to chip in so I can have what I want. I don't expect America to chip in and pay for anything of mine! The majority of America thinks this way, but for some unknown reason the minority is calling the shots! Somehow, the minority got control of Congress! We are facing the loss of what the average American worker earns so that we can "spread the wealth" with the Healthcare Reform Bill. Call it what you will, I call it socialism. And let me tell you, if this passes it won't stop there.

We haven't seen the end of businesses going under. We haven't seen the end of banks being taken over by the fed (there are 700!!! on the watch list right now. Only 140 were taken over last year). We haven't seen the end of forclosures. And me going out and spending isn't going to fix it. Spending the country back in to debt is NOT the way out of this mess.

I love it when people tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to the economy or the democratic policies that have created the current mess we are in. And yes, we are still in a mess. I actually work with people in the financial industry that have no basic concept of economics or politics (although this appears to be very prevalent elsewhere as well). They just go with what is popular at the time without bothering to educate themselves.
