So, ho-kay, why I set up the sonicbids account is that there are some shows we want to play in that only consider bands who submit EPKs.  Call me cheap, but paying friggin' 10 bucks for a chance to play a show -- and a REMOTE chance at that -- seems a bit much.  But then again, I can understand why that's the case for certain events.  BUT BUT then again, call me cheap, but paying for ANYTHING seems wrong.  I grew up on Super Mario Brothers, and dammit, when I hit bricks I expect gold coins to pop out.

If you happen to stroll through the UF campus this week, go pick up a copy of The Student Beat to catch a glimpse of three familiar dudes on the cover.  I wanted to link to the article, but the googles didn't turn up anything.  So I had to scan the article, but I had to cut it off coz the paper was too wide.  You can view the scan of the article here.  Here's my favorite line from the article:

In website news, I've re-coded Murphee dash K dot com to show the latest photo and latest comic on the home page.  There were other backend upgrades like ensuring that each thumbnail image get rendered in smaller download sizes, but I won't get into that.  The main obstacle with putting the latest photo on the home page was keeping the resulting download size small, and I did that by first saving the large, original picture into a cache so that it doesn't overload flickr's servers, and then rendering that picture into a smaller picture by a small ASP.NET function, and oh look I just broke my promise of not talking about it.  I should just stop.

So, ho-kay, if you haven't already heard, we are playing a show tomorrow (Jan 30th) at 1982 Bar, hooray!  We -- that's me, Will (from The Factor), Chris (from Forward), and Chris (from The Monistats) -- have been practicing together for about a couple of months now, and quite honestly, if it weren't for this show, we wouldn't have been practicing so hard and frequent.  But I think we're ready.

Whether or not I am ready -- given the live webcast and the impromptu light show that I plan on putting on -- remains to be seen.

Speaking of the live webcast, I do plan on broadcasting all 4 bands, so please stay for Hoyt & The Hotheads, then us, then The Monistats, and then Padded Cell.  And since the show at 1982 isn't exactly a public event, I can't broadcast anyone willy-nilly; the latest episode of TWiT actually made me realize the potential liability issues.  But ANYWAY, fans:  feel free to dance real silly!

Crap!  All this ranting and I still haven't talked about the comic!  OK, so Will has on a The Ergs! t-shirt because he's been trying to get me into the band despite of my insistence that I could never ever like any band where drummer/singer Mikey Erg was involved in more than Dirt Bike Annie.  In fact, if you go to the live show, you'll see the influence DBA has had on me.  I guess all I'm saying is that I'll try not to hold DBA against them anymore, k?

MUST SEE! 2008-01-29T21:12:58-06:00 HNY means Happy New Year http://www.murpheek.com/archive.asp?NewsID=50&ct=7 This is something bordering awesome:  out of the Top Ten Shows of 2004 in Gainesville, only one was held at a house party (read: ours).  (Here's an article screenshot, just in case.)  We, Pissing on Susie, and that "other" band The Boy and the Knife were mentioned.  And, oh yeah those kids in Select Start too.

(Hmmm...maybe we should just play house parties from now on, eh?)

I realize that I'm almost a week late in saying this, but HNY everybody!  Just got back from Florida after being held captive by my relatives.  But not held tightly enough apparently as I, Peter, Craig and special guest vocalists The Ridicules were able to squeeze in some quality recording time with Rob after Xmas.  The majority of recording and mixing I'd say is done.

On top of the album release, there are a couple of new adventures planned for this new year of 2005.  One involves some sketches, and another involves a DVR.  The former is more likely to be realized than the latter, but in any case, keep visiting this site for updates and to see if either will come to fruition.

This Saturday, Sept 27th, Matt is back on drums and we are playing our first all ages show in ages (pun intended). It will be our first show at the Common Grounds and our first show with the ladies of Sugardish, The Cleansing Power of Fire, and a band who first gave us a chance to play, Today Doesn't Count.

Today may not count, but apparently September 5th did. In the audience at that show was a reporter from an online newspaper and she wrote a nice little article talking about the show and us.  [Editor's Note: Here's an article screenshot, just in case.  -- GP(MPK)]  Thank you for the kind words Jen, your check is in the mail.

Being a fan of OPC ever since Craig was sprayed by Condom Man during their set, I'm pretty damn excited.  I've never seen WWB but it has been said by my friendster Jonnie that they are "going to blow up big."  Go, go see them before they become famous.

K, this newspost was meant to summarize my insane 18-hour trip from Houston to South Florida and the events surrounding it, but I'm still reeling from the drive and the bee stings and the lack of sleep so maybe I'll just post it in our guestbook later on.  For now, enjoy this portal to Peter's postwar [site now defunct].

Almost forgot to mention, the song "May" was played on the radio in Rock 104's Local's Only Radio Show.  Because of this, I'll be watching Adult Swim on Sunday nights with the radio on from now on.
]]> GP(MPK) That's Wadsworth as in Wah-dsworth, not Waaaaadsworth. 2003-09-03T20:43:36-06:00 Bevy of Thoughts http://www.murpheek.com/archive.asp?NewsID=24&ct=7 I had a bevy of thoughts throughout the night, most of which are entirely incoherent and gibberish when laid on paper.  Truth is, I was in a bit of a shock to start the day because of school, work, our last practice session, and having an article about us in the recent issue of Fusion Magazine.  But during our performance, I let my subconscious take over and it resulted in one of our most gratifying experiences.  We feel blessed to have such an enthusiastic audience, and I feel most blessed for being a part of the audience too!  I thoroughly enjoyed all the bands that I caught.  Most notably, In Passing was AMAZING (re: Caps Lock) and Today Doesn't Count -- that was a fun set! It goes to show that 'band + beer (re: lots of) = ensuing hilarity!'
