Guru Puja (literally “worship of the guru”) the practice of worshiping the guru through the making of offerings and requesting inspiration from the guru. Vows and commitments made by the disciple or shishya, which might have lost their strength, are renewed. In the Saiva Sidhandha, the 63 Nayanmars (devotional poets of Tamil speaking lands) are considered the apostles of the Bakthi Movement (worship through loving devotion of God). Through their efforts the Bakthi Movement spread across the Tamil lands.

Murugan Temple has been celebrating the Guru puja every month and once a year we celebrate all the Guru’s that helped instill the beauty and simplicity of worshiping our dear God through devotion and love. We celebrate by reading their wonderful poems. We celebrate by recognizing their contribution to our wonderful thread that connects us all that we call – faith. We celebrate by recognizing their hardships they endured to express their love and devotion to their faith and to God.

We hope you would join us in this annual Guru Puja celebration. To learn more about Guru Puja and the 63 Nayanmars visit the links below:

Dear Murugan Devotee:

Maha Sivaratri or Shivaratri or Sivarathri (Great Night of Shiva or Night of Shiva) is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha(waning moon) of the month of Maagha (as per Shalivahana or Gujarati Vikrama) or Phalguna (as per Vikrama) in the Hindu Calendar (that is, the night before and day of the new moon). The festival is principally celebrated by offerings of Bael (Bilva) leaves to the Lord Shiva, all day fasting and an all night long vigil. Per scriptural and discipleship traditions, the penances are performed in order to gain boons in the practice of Yoga and meditation, in order to reach life’s summum bonum steadily and swiftly. International Mandi Shivratri Fair is held every year.

Maha Shivarathri http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maha_Shivaratri to learn more

This year we will be celebrating Maha Shivarathri on Sunday, February 19th through February 20th morning. We invite you to join us this year in making the celebration as success!

As part of our Maha Shivarathri celebrations, we are excited to announce the availability of Spatika Lingam. The Spatika Lingams will be energized during the Maha Shivarathri pooja. You can take home a genuine Energized Spatika (Crystal) Lingam by sponsoring it. Please note that the Spatika Lingams are in short supply and will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Significance of “Spatika Lingam”?
This precious stone, having inherent divine power, is a natural six flat-faced, long, stick-like glassy growth that varies from 1 inch to 10 feet height. These grow under the ground and are found in the Himalaya Mountains, Vindhya Mountains and

Sangagiri. The vibration of Spatikam is more than that 32768 times per second. These vibrations are useful to ward off the ill effects of Navagrahas. The Puranas describe the Spatikam as a Divine stone representing the three forms of Goddess Shakthi, Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. In Yajur Veda ‘Rudram’, Lord Shiva is described as ‘Jyothir Spadigamani Linga’. That is Lord Shiva manifests in Jyothi form, Linga form and Spatika form. Lord Shiva’s Divinity pervades in every atom, neutron and electron of this spatikam.

Why would I want a “Spatika Lingam”?

Solar energy shines beautifully in the transparent Spatika Lingam.

Offering Milk, Water, or Vhibuti to the Spatika Lingam removes all curses and negative karma. When the Shiva Panchakshari Mantra is offered 108 times, with Milk or Vhibuti, the negative energy will be destroyed. Pooja performed to a Spatika Lingam will enhance ones confidence and power.

Murugan Temple has painstakingly brought limited number of Genuine Spatika Lingams from India and will be placed during the Maha Shivarathri all the four Kala pooja to energize the Spatika lingams. Since we have a limited number of them, we would like our devotees to reserve one today! Please note that they are on a first-come-first-serve basis. So if you would like to bring home a Spatika Lingam, please click the link below and fill out the sponsorship form to reserve your vigraham.

How much does it cost? And where does the money go?

The sponsorship of an Energized Spatika Lingam is $108 per sponsorship. This includes the all-day sponsorhip of the Maha Shivarathri including Ganapathi pooja , Kalasa Pooja, Shiva Abishekam and all four Kala poojas. You and your families names (given in the sangalpam form) will be part of all the archanas and abhishekams. We will provide you with an Energized Spatika Lingam to take home with prasadam & blessings from the archanas performed in your and your family’s names on that day. But that’s not all – a portion of the $108 you donate will go towards the Raja Gopuram Project. So you are not only sponsoring the Spatika lingam but also helping with the long term goal of the temple – to successfully build the Raja Gopuram Vimana.
