You have many audio files on your computer, like mp3 or in iTunes or on CD.

As a musician, you can't print sheet music from your files. Unless with much work and your time.

You can't extract an change single instruments in a sequencer.

You can't program your keyboard with your music

You can't change single instruments and leave the rest like it is.

You can't use your music as ring tones on simple cell phones that support only MIDI files.

You can't? Sure you can. Using the software that i listed below will help you.
Those programs have different strengths and I describe the most important of them.
            You decide.

Soooo many programs that can convert audio to MIDI. Which should I take?

positive negative drums

I give the secret away about
the most important points to choose an audio to MIDI program.
Every music we hear usually is polyphonic music.
This means we hear several sounds at the same time.
A program that you chose should recognize this
            polyphonic music.

If a program fails to do so it is
            monophonic.

There are plenty of audo formats a program should understand.
            Some programs understand
only one format, that maybe not much in use any more.

A program that is so flexible that it supports more than one operating systems,
            is marked positive.

You should download and check out a test version if that is possible.

Now you have all informations to make your own choice using the table below.

            DTM, Drumagog
            <table" class="fontstable"
            	   border="1" rules="all"

NIFF is the first standard code for musical
notation. NIFF is based on RIFF.

A minor revision,NIFF 6b, is available as of June, 2002. This revision is
provided by Jeff Thompson, author of
            					Niffty.

The NIFF (Notation Interchange File Format) was completed in the fall of
1995. This is a standard digital format for the representation of standard
musical notation. The format is very flexible, allowing for simple implementations
with minimal graphical information, or much more elaborate descriptions
including all aspects of page layout, associated midi data, custom symbols,
            etc.

Sponsored by Passport Designs, Mark of the Unicorn, Musicware, Opcode
Systems, and Cakewalk Music Software, the format was designed as a cooperative
effort. The members of the team which developed NIFF are listed below.

The NIFF SDK is complete. It is a free, public domain, platform independent
Software Developer's Kit for software developers implementing NIFF. It
is a collection of software libraries and tools to support reading, writing,
and navigating NIFF files. Documentation, sample code, and a simple NIFF
file is included. The NIFF SDK makes it possible for a software developer
to add NIFF reading and writing capabilities to an existing program without
writing the housekeeping functions that would otherwise be required. The
software is supplied in source code format in the C programming language.

The files beginning with "EX" are TIFF (a standard graphics format) formatted
music example files to be used by NIFF developers.

"FILEWALK.ZIP" is a Microsoft utility for browsing RIFF files. It parses
the STRUCTURE of a RIFF file. Because NIFF uses tags instead of nested
lists, it is of limited utility.

"NIFF 6x.x" is the current version of the specification itself, in html
format. The document "NIFFspec.egs.jpg" contains the musical examples
in the NIFF spec, since some versions of Word have difficulty displaying
            these images.

"NIFF6x.xchanges.txt" details all the latest changes made to the spec since
            v.6a.

            "niff.h" is a C header file.

"MS_NIFF.ZIP" contains some examples of NIFF files written by Midiscan.

The files containing "niffsdk" refer to the NIFF software development kit.

The files containing "NIFFDUM" provide an updated version of the NIFFDUMPER
            UTILITY. See "NIFFDUM.README.TXT".

was designed to remove the need to remember the key signature and accidentals. Based on traditional, 5-line staff notation,
sharps and flats are given distinctively shaped noteheads. The key signature is still there, but the musician plays each note
as it appears on the page without having to mentally adjust for it, or for accidentals.

is a Wordpress plugin for rendering sheet music fragments into images.
It supports converting fragments in excerpts, posts, pages and (optionally) comments.
Currently it supports 4 music notations: abc,

SVG is a graphics format that bases on
            					xml
. I see two applications of SVG in musical notation:

It is ideal to integrate music notation with
small files with high quality into the WWW (as a
replacement for gif; jpeg isn't well suited for
music notation anyhow) and to print the same
            						data with high quality.

It is an ideal replacement for
            						music fonts
            						. Using
            						Java
, one can run programs on almost all platforms -
but one can't rely that there is an installed
music font or even that one is installable.
Using SVG, a music notation program can bring
along all necesary music notation symbols.

            					SVG is

            						defined

            					by the

            						World Wide Web Consortium

            					SVG is a

            						prefered

format for pictures anc vector graphics in
            					wikipedia.org
            					und
            					wikibooks.org
As soon as music notation programs and midi programs
can export single measures and tablatures as SVG
files, this files could be used as

            						high quality files

            					in many wiki projects.

If you know music notation programs that export to
SVG, please let me know. Several people expressed
            					interest in this topic.

There are so many SVG resources on the Web, I can't
            					list them all.

There is a change in the SVG draft of 29 June 2000:

Made the 'unicode' attribute on the 'glyph'
element #IMPLIED to allow for definition of
glyphs which do not have corresponding code
points in Unicode. Such glyphs can only be
            						accessed via the 'altGlyph' facility.

This is good especially for music notation symbols,
since the UNICODE people don't want graphical
symbols inside UNICODE: Unicode is for symbols that
are used in a text line. This is what the symbols
1D100 - 1D1FF are intended for. These symbols are
not intended for notation symbols that are placed
2-dimensional in a graphical music notation editor.

IntelliScore Ensemble helps you transcribe music by converting multiple-instrument CD audio, WAV, MP3, and WMA
files to multi-track MIDI (.mid) files containing the notes played broken down by instrument, chord names, and key.
Then you can take those MIDI files and do things that are impossible with audio files such as viewing the notation
and changing individual notes and swapping or muting instruments. You can also compose MIDI music in real-time by
            singing or playing any instrument.

Want to play along to a favorite song but just can't quite differentiate between the guitar and bass parts?
Have you ever recorded a great melody for your band or a hot new lick but now can't remember what notes you
played or sang? Let intelliScore do the hard work for you. Spend more time making music and less time figuring out the notes.

Features:

Helps you figure out the notes chord names and key present in multiple-instrument MP3, WAV, and WMA files and CDs. Unlike
"pitch detectors" intelliScore can convert music that contains more than one note at a time

View and edit scores and individual tracks once your WAV, MP3, WMA, or CD files are converted into MIDI

Sing or play a non-MIDI instrument and see the notes appear in the included Anvil Studio or your own MIDI sequencer

Play your MIDI synthesizer live by singing or playing any musical instrument into a microphone attached to your computer

See the names of the chords and key present in your WAV, MP3, or WMA file

Rip CD music convert it to MIDI (.mid) file then play it in your MIDI keyboard

Effects such as pitch bend vibrato tremolo and portamento are faithfully recreated on instrument tracks that contain one
            note at a time

Helps remove vocals from most WAV, MP3, WMA, or CD files for karaoke singing

Finds the beats in percussion tracks

Easy to use wizard interface helps achieve the most accurate recognition results in the shortest amount of time

Free technical support

IntelliScore Polyphonic includes all the powerful capabilities of intelliScore Ensemble except that

Music Markup Language is an XML application.

taken from chorale:

<bar barid="treb-1">3[E A] [3E B] [3E:8 C]F:8 [3G C]
            <notation>
            <bindbegin id="b1" beat="3" note="E" />
            <bindend end="b1" beat="3.5" />
            </notation>
            </bar>

As you can see, main parts of the format are not defined in XML itself, but in a microformat that is embedded in XML.
(the XML syntax error is part of the original example)

Also note, that in this example, the notation element is a child of the bar element.
Compare this with the DTD where the notation element is allowed only as child of the song element.
This is only one of several errors that prevent an implementation of this format.

The MML website has been updated in the year 2002 for the last time.

WIDI Recognition System is a polyphonic Audio to MIDI converter with extended options. The main function of the program is
to convert audio files into MIDI, and then to help with quick and efficient rearrangement of the converted file. The program
converts CD tracks, MP3 and Wave files and automatically produces polyphonic MIDI files in seconds. In addition, WIDI Recognition
System is capable of converting music on the fly, as you sing or play a musical instrument. WIDI's innovative recognition
algorithms guarantee the best conversion quality ever available.

WIDI is designed for retrieving music notation from MP3 files, creating ringtones for cell phones, practicing or teaching
            music.

TrueTone Editor is the tool in the WIDI Recognition System Professional Edition that allows user to correct the results of
automatic recognition with a visual comparison of spectrogram peaks to the notes. Users possess the options of adding and
deleting musical notes, adjusting pitch and duration, and enabling playback, including synchronized play with the source audio
file. Now, to enhance score readability, the TrueTone Editor in v3.3 manages bar-lines for easy positioning, addition or deletion
in visual mode, or one can use the Tapping Tool, arranging bar-lines by ear. The new Editor also features time-saving functions
such as Multiple Selection, so the attributes of a group of notes can be adjusted all at once, and Note Map, for fast navigation.

WIDI 3.3 supports Recognition Presets for different types of music, predefined or created by user. WIDI is now able to work
with stereo-recordings - to display them and also recognize channels individually and in various combinations.
New Recognition Wizard will help you to get your first results just in a few moments after the initial start-up, and familiarizes
you with the program at the same time.

Whether you are an amateur or a professional, WIDI Recognition System will help you a great deal. Get your copy now!

WIDI Recognition System is a polyphonic Audio to MIDI converter with extended options. The program converts CD tracks, MP3
and Wave files and automatically produces polyphonic MIDI files in several seconds. In addition, WIDI Recognition System is
capable of converting music on the fly, as you sing or play a musical instrument. WIDI's innovative recognition algorithms
guarantee the best conversion quality ever available.

WIDI is designed for retrieving music notation from MP3 files, creating ringtones for cell phones, practicing or teaching
            music, and more.

WIDI Recognition System Standard Edition does not contain TrueTone Editor. TrueTone Editor is the tool in the WIDI Recognition
System Professional Edition that allows users to correct the results of automatic recognition with a visual comparison of
spectrogram peaks to the notes. WIDI 3.2 Standard allows transposing MIDI files and replacing the musical instrument you are
            using with another one.

WIDI 3.2 supports Recognition Presets for different types of music, predefined or created by user. WIDI is now able to work
with stereo-recordings - to display them and also recognize channels individually and in various combinations.

New Recognition Wizard will help you to get your first results just a few moments after the initial start-up, and familiarizes
you with the program at the same time.

Whether you are an amateur or a professional, WIDI Recognition System will help you a great deal. Get your copy now!

Well, maybe there are people who want to transform something to MIDI. Who cares?
I want my MIDI files now. Simply and straight.

If this is your wish, and I understand that, you might have a look at this. It costs a few bucks
and you don't have to care about this transforming stuff.
