New iPod plays videos

Apple unveiled a new version of its popular iPod music player on Wednesday (Oct. 12) capable of playing videos.
Apple said the new player can display music videos, video podcasts, home movies and TV shows. It includes 2.5-inch color screen that also can display album artwork and photos.

Apple said the new iPod can hold more than 150 hours of video. A 30-Gbyte model sells for $299; a 60-Gbyte version is priced at $399.

In the wake of the success of Jay-Z and Linkin Park's Collision Course CD, you can be sure that plenty of mash-up songs are on the way. What's a mash-up? It's when recordings of two songs are recombined into one song. It's happened for years on DJ's turntables or home recording studios, and hip hop artists are especially fond of it. But much of the re-mixing and re-combining was sub-legal. Now, the rock 'n rap "Collision Course" -- which debuted at No. 1 -- proved there's a commercial (legal) market for recombinations of existing songs. So who'll release the next mash-up? Ticket pre-sales are set to begin for "Anger Management III" - the third edition of Eminem's massive hip hop extravaganza. The tour features Em with 50 Cent for the first time, along with the G-Unit, crunk masters Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz and Em's Shady Records partners D-12, Obie Trice, and the newly signed Stat Quo. The tour launches July 7 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Indianapolis, hitting markets around the country and ending with a huge show in Detroit's Comerica Park - August 12.
