I went for a walk in the hurricane.

Got lost.

Found myself.

But I'm not sure I like what I found.

All my life, I've had this problem. I'll have an idea, a dream, or an ambition, yet I never see it to completion. For the longest time, I resorted to blaming external factors. I thought maybe if I were smarter, or richer, or had more freedom I'd be able to accomplish something.

But the fact is, the reason I can't accomplish anything is because before now, I have simply lacked the resolve to do so.

It's nobody's fault but my own, and that's a difficult thing to accept.

But I remember now, why I sing.

It's not about fame, and it's not about money.

It's about being able to reach people.

It's about being able to communicate and relate with people I've never met.

It's about making a difference, no matter how small.

And music is the best channel I have right now to do that.

I swore when I first created this that I was going to update regularly. Alas! Real life strikes again. Between work (the office job, not music, sadly), moving (!!!), and the poor cats needing crazy medical treatment, I haven't really been in much of a position to be writing music.

But!

A friend of mine, the leader of the band Multiple FX, asked me if I wanted to work on a song with him to help raise money for Red Cross Japan.

It took waaay longer that I thought it would, but it's finally up on iTunes! Multiple FX is managing this release, but I thought it would be cool to make a post about it anyways, since it's still for charity, and therefore should still count.

I think.

We worked with a producer from King54, Krys, WHO IS A GENIUS. I sent him what I thought was pretty final...and he completely brought it to life. HOLY CRAP. I had no idea how flat my mix had sounded until he redid it!

Anyways, I put a little blurb up on YouTube to tell all the people who don't really care about charity or music about the release of Remind...seriously, why do I bother...

Anyways, it was fun stuff! Funny, really, it's like making that little 6 minute video was just never meant to be. So many odd mishaps happened along the way:

The power went out when I was recording the piano the first time
I kept having trouble getting audio and video to record at the same time. There's some odd magical combination of devices that I can't use, and I still haven't figure out what they are.
Once I was a fool and just didn't hit record on the audio.
The dogs started barking loud enough that I couldn't hear myself....

But somehow this managed to make its way to the internet.

I'm sure I had a more interesting story to tell, but I've forgotten it entirely. Shoot.

Charity of the Month Covers/Songs

This is an idea I've been kicking around for a long time, but the disaster in Japan has finally set things into motion.

I have some original music on iTunes, but I was thinking of doing covers for charity.

Each month I'd like to take a poll, and at the end of the month, the charity with the most votes will get the proceeds from all the Covers for Charity songs.

Since I am far from an expert on charities, I'd also like to get input on which charities to include every month.

Could this would actually work?

Okay, I finally remembered what was keeping me from doing this in the past: licensing fees. It would be simpler to do originals for this - it would be extra work for me, but I think (hope) it'll be worth it!
