Mars' debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, was released digitally on October 4, and saw its physical release on October 5, 2010. The lead single, "Just the Way You Are", was released on July 19, 2010, and has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well as several other charts worldwide. The music video was released on September 8, 2010. The second single, "Grenade", was released September 28, 2010, and has also seen successful international chart performance. In the United States, Doo-Wops & Hooligans debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 for the week of October 13, 2010, selling 55,000 copies. The album also received generally positive reviews from critics. Entertainment Weekly's Leah Greenblatt praised Mars for his "instant-access melodies" and "sly snatches of dance-floor swagger", but noted weaknesses in songs deviant from his conventional pop and soul genres. He opened for Maroon 5 on the fall leg of the Hands All Over Tour starting October 6, 2010 and co-headlined with McCoy on a European tour starting October 18, 2010.

A number one placing in New Zealand for "Tik Tok" gave Kesha her first number one; this was followed by number one positions in Canada, Australia and Norway. Animal was seven years in the making, and Kesha had accumulated over two hundred songs with fourteen making the final cut.

Owl City: Ocean Eyes 2009

Owl City's third album Ocean Eyes was released on iTunes July 14, 2009, with the physical release following on July 28, 2009. The album debuted at #27 on the Billboard 200. Owl City has released four singles, "Hello Seattle", "Hot Air Balloon", "Strawberry Avalanche", and "Fireflies". "Fireflies" topped the US and Canadian charts and became the most-downloaded song on iTunes in the US. Ocean Eyes reached the top ten on the US album charts and topped the US electronic charts and also reached Amazon MP3's top 10 most downloaded album list. By December 2009, it was certified Gold in the United States. On 24 January 2010, Owl City reached the number 1 spot in the UK Top 40 Singles chart with "Fireflies".

Young is joined by Breanne Düren on several tracks; the most noted being "The Saltwater Room." Owl City's live band consists of: Breanne Duren (background vocals/keyboards), Matthew Decker (drums), Laura Musten (violin), and Hannah Schroeder (cello). He will likely collaborate with Lights in early 2010 on his new tour in the US, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Relient K vocalist Matt Thiessen has toured and collaborated with Owl City on several tracks including in the hit single "Fireflies", where Matt can be heard as the backup vocals. Young also produced Relient K's song "Terminals". Thiessen stated that it is very likely that he and Young will produce a side project called Goodbye Dubai in the future.

"Fireflies" was released as a free download on the iPod/iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge 3 by Tapulous. Prior to the July 14, 2009 internet release of Ocean Eyes, and the "Fireflies" single, Steve Hoover was hired as a director for a music video for "Fireflies". The video had an exclusive premiere on MySpace, but was leaked onto the video viewing websites, YouTube and Dailymotion hours earlier. "Fireflies" became a big sleeper hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States for the week ending November 7, 2009.

Owl City is featured on Soundtrack 90210 with a song entitled "Sunburn", which was released on October 13, 2009. Owl City has toured with The Scene Aesthetic and Brooke Waggoner.

On Monday, December 7, 2009 Owl City was shortlisted as one of the 15 acts for the BBC Sound of 2010.

Boyz 2 Men: Love (2009)

When it comes to Boys 2 Men, WOW is quite often the first word that comes to mind. Not only have these guys forged a career that will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2010, but during that career they have amassed around 60 million sales, and multiple Grammy Awards. Their smooth and distinctive vocal talents have made them a sell out act all over the world, as they combine pop, soul, R&B, and vocal harmony work to awe-inspiring effect. This, their latest album release, is a collection of popular love songs; something old, something new, and a few surprises as well! My criteria for judging an album of cover versions has always been, do I like the song in the first place, and also have the group put their own stamp on it/added some value. Boys 2 Men start off well on both counts, with a different version of the Take That hit ‘Back For Good’. Typically the harmonies are smooth and polished, and soar in all the right places, the new musical arrangement is interesting, with a good beat, and they prove their vocal talents with a little a cappella burst towards the end as well. This was one of the highlights of the album for me, along with their versions of ‘If You Leave Me Now’ by Chicago, and Amazed by ‘Lonestar’. The three piece give a natural, almost effortless, performance of ‘If You Leave Me Now’, over a very emotive melody. ‘Amazed’ has some familiar instrumentation, but some subtle vocal touches that add a different edge to the track. Also scoring points for originality is the inclusion of ‘Iris’, a track by rock band The Goo Goo Dolls. A rock track is the last thing I was expecting on a Boys 2 Men album, but it just goes to show how versatile music can be. The strings on this song are very powerful and show a slightly darker side to the band.
