ACCOUNTANT

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts and annual reports.
Ensure accurate and smooth month-end closing of the subsidiaries under stringent deadline.
Involved in group financial consolidation, reporting and analysis
To administer annual budget and forecast activities, coordinate and support local and foreign subsidiaries in all finance related matter.

Requirements:

Bachelor in Accountancy, ACCA equivalent, CPA Singapore with a minimum of 3-5 years working experience in MNC and with some exposure in auditing.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and computerized accounting Software
Sound knowledge of Financial accounting standards, taxation standards and relevant statutory requirements
Strong analytical and problem solving skill

What is a Bachelor's Degree?

Also known as Baccalaureate degrees, bachelors' degrees are four-year degrees awarded by colleges or universities. This undergraduate degree allows students to select both an area of study (referred to as a 'major') and an area of concentration (referred to as a 'minor.') Traditionally, bachelor degrees must be completed before embarking on a master's or doctoral degree.

Traditionally, students enter a bachelor's program either directly from high school or by transferring credits from previous coursework (for example, an associate degree). As the workforce becomes more educated, many industry professionals with work experience are also returning to school to begin or complete a degree.

Why take a bachelor's degree?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that 96% of the 50 highest paying occupations require college degrees and salaries for bachelor's degree holders are projected to be 60 percent higher than for those with associate degrees.

Less than a decade ago, non-graduates still anticipated a fair chance at climbing the career ladder. Today, a college degree is almost a prerequisite for employment and certainly for promotion into management.

How to look for an apprenticeship or traineeship

Apprenticeships and traineeships (now known collectively as wordn Apprenticeships), combine practical work with structured training to give you a nationally recognised qualification and experience needed to get the job you want. wordn Apprenticeships are now available in over 500 occupations in an increasing range of industries.

The methods used to seek an wordn Apprenticeship may not differ greatly from strategies used to seek any kind of employment. However, there may be one or two extra things that you could try to give yourself an edge when it comes to your job search.

1. Be focused on the type of apprenticeship or traineeship you are seeking

There are literally hundreds of apprenticeships and traineeships from which to choose. Check out the details on JobSearch or wordn Apprenticeships. You’ll find lists of apprenticeship and traineeship titles and lots of other useful information.

2. Get your documentation in order

Make sure your resume is up-to-date, professionally presented and geared towards the type of wordn Apprenticeship you wish to obtain. Compile a targeted covering letter to go with your resume. This could be either in response to an advertised vacancy, or a canvassing (enquiry) letter. Assemble your resume, references and supporting documentation in a presentation folder.

3. Consider the strategies for your job search

You could use any or all of these ideas in your search for an wordn Apprenticeship:

* Check the newspapers for advertised jobs. Many employers begin to advertise about August for employees to commence work the following year; however, employers can advertise at any time during the year.
* Use the Job Network. Phone 136 268 to get information on your local Job Network member/s or search on the wordn JobSearch website.
* Register with Group Training Companies. Group Training Companies often act as recruitment agencies for employers seeking to employ an wordn Apprentice. Contacts for Group training Companies can be found on the Group Training word website.
* Register with other private agencies or labour hire companies. These are listed in the Yellow Pages under “Employment Services”.
* Search appropriate online job boards or vacancy websites, in particular sites that are likely to recruit for these types of entry level positions.
* Seek advice from potential employers seeking advice on wordn Apprenticeships in their industry and the likelihood of job vacancies.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice

Much has been written and said about the importance of the “hidden job market”. Many job vacancies are never advertised, so “selling” yourself to a potential employer has become a key skill in the job search process. Asking the advice of those already in the industry will equip you with the background information needed for a successful “sale”.

5. Know what to offer the employer

Some employers are not aware of the financial incentives paid to them for taking on an wordn Apprentice. Your local wordn Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) can inform you of the employer’s financial entitlements plus the benefits of using the wordn Apprenticeship system. Body language tips for job interviews

Waving hands or twitching face muscles might not be the first things you think about when preparing for a job interview, but with body language counting for a large part of how people perceive us, actions really do speak louder than words.

According to Michael Kelly of Kelly Speech Communications, any gesture or mannerism we use to express a non-verbal message can be considered body language. Chin jutting, shoulder shrugging, arm-swinging, head tilting, even eye blinking - they all fit the profile. Body language is used to express our conscious or subconscious thoughts, and can be as subtle as a sidewards glance - or as obvious as a slap in the face.

So how can you fine-tune your body language for success?

Before your next job interview, ask a friend to identify any potentially distracting habits you may have such as playing with your hair or drumming your fingers. You may be surprised to learn about behaviour you weren’t aware of.

Next, stage a mock job interview with a friend and video it. “Viewing your body language as other people do is a valuable experience,” says Kelly. “But if you want to gain more self-awareness, an intense questioning session with a friend is useful for noting any negative body language that occurs under pressure, such as foot-bouncing or lip-biting.”

And if that’s not enough to give you an air of self-assurance, Kelly says that observing confident people and modelling their open, friendly and accepting cues can also help you create a winning perception. Additionally, learning by example increases the likelihood that your actions will be read as you intend them to be, and decreases your risk of sending mixed messages.

When it comes to the job interview itself, Kelly recommends creating instant rapport with the interviewer by being sensitive to their body position or pose, and adapting your movements, breathing patterns and expressions accordingly. But if you find yourself forgetting your words, concentrate more on yourself. Maintaining good eye contact will also help impart trust and understanding: a steady gaze that conveys alertness, interest and confidence, without too little or too much focus, is a great choice.

Bear in mind that swaying, fiddling, and face touching can all threaten job interview success, so place one hand on your waist and gesture with the other to control any nervousness. And keep your spare hand free, as playing with unneeded pens or papers will only betray your jitters.

Finally, the perfect handshake, like most body language, is all about finding a happy medium that you’re comfortable with. “A cool hand, firm grasp, two palm-to-palm pumps and good eye contact will create just the right impression,” says Kelly.

There are a number of fixed term posts potentially ranging from six to twelve months in duration (the number of posts available will be confirmed at the interview stage). These are full time positions, required from Summer 2008 for six – twelve months in duration. You will manage and co-ordinate the work of a team of administrative staff in response to the developing needs of a busy School/s within the Faculty of Science. You will make a significant and high-level operational contribution to service provision and the maintenance of data within the Oracle Student System and will be responsible for induction and on-the-job training of staff in office systems and procedures. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential to this post, as is the ability to work flexibly and using your own initiative. Previous experience in a similar environment would be an advantage.
