For reinforcement, they called in producers Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill.

That continuity aligns with the story Apocalypse tells, as it exists in the same timeline as their earlier works, advancing the narrative. This is most aptly seen in the 19-minute title track.

"With long-form songs, it always starts with the music," drummer and vocalist Cody Bowles said via press notes. "We built 'Apocalypse' from instrumental sections, some older riffs, a lot of newly inspired ones, and mapped them out on a whiteboard, figuring out how one section could melt into the next."

Listen to Apocalypse in its entirety below. It begins with a juddering electronic loop, and the hook disorientingly stretches the word "rock" into oblivion, as if a snippet of Charli's voice had been copy-pasted into the grid of a DAW. It's cold and digital, the work of people huddled around a computer rather than jamming together on instruments.

And yet it's still unquestionably rock music, a heavily processed guitar resembling "Celebrity Skin" run through a filter, with acoustic drums smashing their way through a simple caveman beat.

Most authentically "rock" of all are lyrics that find Charli singing about how "the dance floor is dead" and that she's making rock music. "Rock and Roll All Nite," "I Wanna Rock," "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" — there's a great tradition of on-the-nose rock songs about how rock music rocks, and bonus points if you work in a bit about how dance music sucks.

I'm not sure this will capture the zeitgeist like BRAT, but it's silly, fun and undoubtedly rocks.

Legendary punk rock band Social Distortion have lost none of their fire, and today they make their much-awaited return with their eighth studio album, Born to Kill, out now via Epitaph Records.

Getting their start in Fullerton, CA, Social Distortion became famous for their raw, primal, West Coast sound. They captured the rebellious nature of youth — something that they still keep in mind.

"I want these kids today to realize what it was like back then," frontman Mike Ness told Rolling Stone. "Every generation has a rebellious movement, and this is a period I don't want to be forgotten. ... As I was writing, I noticed a recurring theme: revisiting the feeling of being suppressed."

Born to Kill is infused with the band's signature style of defiance; what's unique is that this time Ness speaks to America's youth, and to the current moment. In their single "Born to Kill," Ness sings, "Revolution can sure be fun / Turn the status quo, it's to your dismay." The single has amassed millions of streams since its release, proving the band's continued resonance.

"The Way Things Were" is nostalgic and hopeful about the power of music: "No one said that life would be so hard / So I planned out my escape with an old guitar / I wrote a song with a stolen riff, if you ain't got a song, you ain't got shit." It's a particularly potent sentiment considering that Ness went through cancer treatments during the making of the album.

Co-produced by Ness and Dave Sardy, with appearances by musicians like Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Lucinda Williams, Born to Kill is the latest milestone in a career stretching back close to 50 years.

Listen to the album below, and catch Social Distortion on tour with support from the Descendents and the Chats.

Last year, the songwriter was honoured with a covers compilation for his 50th birthday, and now he's released a new single, "Fill in the Blanks," to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the current lineup of the Joel Plaskett Emergency.

Plaskett wrote "Fill in the Blanks" in 2024 as an assignment for an online course he was taking about Marshall McLuhan's 1964 book Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man. The songwriter said in a statement, "I was imagining April Wine jamming with Steve Miller but then Dave [Marsh, drums] and Chris [Pennell, bass] took it to Portland Street like they always do."

This is the group's first new music since 2021's Twenty Years Gone: The Joel Plaskett Emergency Revisits Down at the Khyber — itself a 20-year celebration of the band's first album (when they had a slightly different lineup).

Check out a video for "Fill in the Blanks" below. It's out as a limited edition 7-inch via turtlemusik / ADA Worldwide / Warner Music Canada. The single artwork (seen above) reads "Chapter One," suggesting that more material is on the way.

TALK explained in a statement, "I'm one of those people kept up at night by mistakes I've made in the past. The world spins fast, life goes quick. Every person, at some point in their lives, made a wish for a time machine to go back and fix some dumb mistakes. This song represents mine."

TALK co-produced the track along with Joey Moi, Tofer Brown and Connor Riddel. "Time Machine" follows the artist's 2023 album Lord of the Flies & Birds & Bees, which included the hit "Run Away to Mars."

Hear the song below. It's a rejection of giving your power to systems, fear, leaders, or anyone else. The video reflects that… war, protest, false idols, all showing what happens when people stop thinking for themselves and just follow. It's not anti-spiritual, it's anti-passive. Decide who you are, take responsibility, and act on it. That's where the freedom is.

The collab with George came naturally. I've been a long-time fan, and Alexisonfire were one of the first bands I saw live as a teenager getting into alternative music. I think most Canadian millennials from that era share a similar story. And I mostly play guitar," she says — before doing far more than just that. Honestly, it's a mystery how her acoustic didn't burst into flames with the kind of swift, polyrhythmic skill she so effortlessly pulls off with just a couple of fingers.

Fresh off a run of North American tour dates, the Wales-born, Brighton-based guitarist is the latest artist to step behind the Tiny Desk. The three-track set is hypnotic, a little chaotic, yet completely controlled. With just six strings, Raymond's talent is exhilarating but also baffling, in all the best ways.

The timing isn't accidental. Raymond is in the middle of a busy touring stretch that will carry her through the fall with stops in Orilla, Ottawa and Guelph this summer.

She's also lining up a steady stream of releases. A new live album, Live at WFMU, lands April 24, capturing a raw session recorded at the tail end of her 2025 East Coast tour. It pulls from recent work, including the widely praised Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark, and leans into the stripped-back intensity that defines her live sound.

Further out, her early records You Never Were Much of a Dancer and Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain are getting remastered vinyl reissues, arriving September 4. Long considered modern staples of fingerstyle guitar, they're being reintroduced with a fuller, more expansive sound.

But right now, it's the Tiny Desk that does the heavy lifting. Minimal talking, just her and the guitar — and somehow, that's more than enough. Watch Raymond's performance below, where you'll also find her upcoming tour dates.

Gwenifer Raymond 2026 Tour Dates:

05/03 London, UK - Shake The High Road Festival
05/03 Stroud, UK - NeoAncients Festival
05/07 Wrexham, UK - Focus Wales
05/08 Aalborg, Denmark - Shelter from the Storm
05/09 Brussels, Belgium - Vorst Nationaal / Forest National (with Mitski)
05/21 London, UK - Royal Albert Hall (with Mitski)
06/01 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera A La Ciutat
06/06 Newcastle, UK - Marrapalooza
06/13 Rouen, France - Rush Festival
06/20 Nelsonville, OH - Nelsonville Music Festival
07/03 Roskilde, Denmark - Roskilde Festival
07/05 Orillia, ON - Mariposa Folk Festival
07/10 Ottawa, ON - Bluesfest
07/17–19 Guelph, ON - Hillside Festival

07/24 Baie-Saint-Paul, QC - Le Festif!
07/31 London, UK - Hush Festival
08/16 Grande Prairie, AB, CA - Bear Creek Folk Festival
08/22 Suffolk, UK - FolkEast
08/26 Sydney, Australia - Lazy Thinking
08/27 Brisbane, Australia - Cave Inn
08/28 Melbourne, Australia - Northcote Social Club
08/29 Adelaide, Australia - Arthur Art Bar

To celebrate the release, Payne has now premiered a music video for the album's title track. The song is a smooth, quietly reflective piano pop tune reflective of what Payne refers to as his "bearded McCartney phase," capturing the elegance of '70s soft rock with help from engineer Matt Krysko.

The accompanying video was directed by Marie Côté, who filmed people's hands around the world over the course of a year.

"'Dazzle Me' explores the connection we share with the world through our hands," she said in a statement. "A gesture can say so much — sometimes enough to tell a whole story. I've long been drawn to hands and the way they communicate instinctively. This project gathers small, powerful moments captured over the last year, across different places. What makes this especially meaningful is that friends and family also filmed it. Moving through countries, cultures, and moments in time, we encounter quiet scenes, captured as they are."

Check out the video below. You can listen to Brass Camel on all platforms.

Marking the first record since the band's five-man lineup was solidified, Brass Camel was tracked largely live-off-the-floor at the Chalet Studio in Uxbridge, ON, and was co-produced by Kevin Comeau (Crown Lands) and mixed by Terry Brown (Blue Rodeo).

The album was previewed by three distinct singles; January's "Ice Cold," March's "What Are You Going to Do," and the recently released "Everybody Loves a Scandal," which, according to press notes, is a "sardonic walk in the shoes of an individual who creates music, unrepentantly, with AI." To the song's narrator, AI is just another tool/shortcut that they can use and abuse; "And if it gets them talking / At least they're talking about us."

However, Brass Camel maintain that the creation and the performance of this song — and album — are anything but artificial.

"Brass Camel is our distillation of everything we love about music — funk, prog, big art-pop harmony, shredding solos, dynamic mood pieces and ear-bleeding auditory assaults — combined with our group's absolute passion for playing live as a unit," the band shared in a statement. "We wrote and recorded this in very little time and we'd love to think the whirlwind process and resulting LP translates our group's chemistry. It's a tough industry so might as well play whatever the hell we want to play and it play it bloody loud' ethos. There's no rulebook followed, boxes ticked, to achieve a 'sound' or toe genre-lines. It's raw and it's weird and it's 100% Brass Camel. We can't wait to hit the road across this beautiful country and leave it all on the stage every night. See you out there, Canada."

You can listen to the album on your player of choice below. What was once a clever workaround to get ownership has now become a streaming and sales inflator, and Hilary Duff is the latest victim of it.

Today, the singer re-released her 2003 hit "Come Clean" as "Come Clean (Mine)," which basically just means she re-recorded the song. "I can't get enough of Joey's drumming, and his intuition for arrangement and sequencing blows me away," Sloane shared in a release.

Inspired by Abel Gingerich's captivating cover artwork, Brown's punk background and Mona's influences R.E.M. and Guided by Voices, new adventures' tape warbles and macabre lyrics tell a story of death and rebirth that is true and indefinitely liberating. It also finds the duo embracing a lo-fi and "messy" aesthetic, which is linked to Sloane's experience with ego death and their gender journey.

"I was sad and something wasn't quite right," they explained. "Over the course of writing and recording new adventures in lo-fi, I went through what felt like an ego death and eventually came out as non-binary and took on the name Mona."

Further speaking of the album's production process, Sloane continued, "Since I was a kid, I always wanted a four-track cassette recorder after having fallen in love with a borrowed one. Eventually, I found a Fostex X-15 Multi-tracker, and I couldn't have been happier. Granted, it had some issues, and I needed to later get a hold of a Tascam 414 Portastudio, but starting from analogue made my dream come true, as cliche as that sounds."

Take a listen below.

>

On the first night of the tour in Atlanta, GA, she notably surprised the crowd with '68's Josh Scogin during "Parachute," so I'd been anticipating something similar might happen in Toronto — and lo and behold, it did, but not until Night 2 (I'm not bitter): Dallas Green showed up at yesterday's (April 1) show.

The Alexisonfire and City and Colour mastermind crashed the stage in time for the song's bridge breakdown, screaming along with Williams before flexing his aerated falsetto, singing the "You watched me fall" counter-melody of the final chorus.

This was undeniably a really huge moment for elder emos, especially those of us cool enough to have spent Friday nights in high school rotating between watching City and Colour's Live and Paramore's The Final Riot! concert films.

Posts from the hayleywilliams
community on Reddit

The Alex Cooper-hosted, not-quite-variety-hour, not-quite-reunion left out some key players, while delivering the most PR-friendly version it could possibly pump out.

Despite this, Cyrus doesn't seem done with the celebrations, as she just released an original song from the special as a single.

"Younger You" was performed near the end of the special, following the HM classics "The Best of Both Worlds," "This Is the Life" and early Cyrus hit "The Climb," and it's a slightly ham-fisted time capsule letter to herself. If Hannah Montana fans were still young girls looking for a teeny bop idol, it might work. Instead, it's exactly the kind of thing that would cap off an underwhelming TV special.

To be clear, there's nothing inherently wrong with "Younger You;" it's just fine, if a little cloying. Maybe it's okay not to feel the same magic 20 years later with new content, perhaps a nostalgia watch of childhood favourites is enough. Listen to the song below.

"Standing face to face with someone who is ultimately myself. Looking at a mirror but not recognizing yourself... not because you look different, but because they seem stronger than you feel. Times where I question how one can feel so divided while ultimately being singular."

She continued, "It's about the weirdness of being both at once and how one's consciousness chooses to either see a reflection as truth or a lie."

The music video for "if i am me, then who are you?" perfectly captures the track's surreal, hyperpop energy. Check it out below.

PIAO will join Tommy Genesis at the Great Hall on May 6 as a part of Toronto's Departure Festival. Tickets are on sale now.

Grounded in gentle piano and soft, textured instrumentation, the track feels intimate from the first note.

Described by Northey as "a song of ego, a song of love, a song of reflection, and a song of belonging," the single circles big, open-ended questions: "Are you the one for me? Am I God? Will you still like me if I change?" Rather than offering answers, Northey lets the uncertainty sit, giving the song its emotional weight.

Recorded in his home studio and mixed by Jesse Turnbull, "Do I Belong?" balances warmth with restraint, layering in subtle touches like congas and a '70s-leaning guitar lick from Michael Rault. The result feels like what Northey's aiming for — something open-hearted in an increasingly closed-off world.

The accompanying video matches that tone, reimagining Northey as a hippie preacher in a playful nod to his childhood church experiences, capturing the song's spiritual curiosity without taking itself too seriously. Check it out below.

Last month, Lucy Dacus added her own touch to the series during her Australian tour, delivering a soulful, intimate cover of Scarborough's very own alt-R&B sensation Daniel Caesar.

The track she chose, "Who Knows," has been making waves. After Caesar's standout performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the song now receives a beautifully stripped-down reinterpretation by Dacus, further captivating listeners.

Originally featured on Caesar's 2025 album Son of Spergy, a record packed with creative collaborations, "Who Knows" was co-written with a team including Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. The track blends breezy acoustic folk and soul, and Dacus's version pares it down even more, turning it into a quiet, reflective performance that feels unmistakably her own — the six-piece band curating a subtly heart-wrenching performance, delivered with gentle restraint.

In her accompanying interview, Dacus called "Who Knows" a "perfect song," and explained why it resonated with her: "It's my favourite kind of love song because it's uncertain. That's another reason I wanted to play it — it feels thematically connected to what I wanted to do on Forever Is a Feeling."

Watch Dacus's cover below, along with Caesar's Tonight Show performance.

It oscillates between the duo's Des Das Gupta and Sam Maloney, with an appropriate blue haze surrounding them.

"'In Blue" is where your heart drops into your stomach, a butterfly effect with razor wings," the band say of the song in a press release. "There is a nagging knowing that that part of you might need to take a turn in the driver's seat. Glitching between a scratching breath, a metallic sweat, the need for touch, and self-desolation."

The video comes right before the band's SXSW performance at Swan Dive, presented by Exclaim! and Project Nowhere.

Charlotte Cornfield is entering a new chapter with her sixth album, Hurts Like Hell, out today via Next Door Records in Canada and Merge Records everywhere else.

What makes this album particularly special is that it's her first since the birth of her daughter in 2023 — a moment that reshaped both her life and her approach to songwriting. Hurts Like Hell reflects that shift, exploring themes of growth, renewal and the messy perseverance of love through awkwardness, doubt and change.

It also marks one of Cornfield's most collaborative records to date. The album features contributions from artists like Feist and Buck Meek, with additional support from a full band including El Kempner of Palehound. The sessions leaned into a more organic process, with musicians recording together live in the room and allowing instinct to guide the performances — the kind of easy trust between singer and bandmates that you can hear in every note.

The result is one of Cornfield's most open-hearted records yet — a project shaped by community, reflection and the evolving perspective that comes with a major life change. It's vulnerable yet stripped back and simple, in all the best kinds of ways.

The music video for Cornfield's Feist collab is wholesome and quietly charming, with the pair's warm folk vocals giving the song a comforting, homespun feel. Check it out below, where you can also hear the album in full.

Toronto hip-hop artist Lex Leosis has returned with her long-awaited sophomore album, don't get hurt. The new record blends elements of jazz, funk, pop and hip-hop while showcasing a collaborative lineup of Canadian and US artists.

The album's focus track, "betterthanu," features acclaimed Haisla rap duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids alongside producer Obvi, delivering a confident and energetic highlight from the project.

Much of the album came together during a one-week writing camp that brought together a powerhouse group of writers and producers, including callmestevieray, Harry Jay and Obvi, along with industry heavyweights Tee-WaTT (Aminé, Logic), Wyatt Woodley (Bryson Tiller, Blxst), and more. The project was later polished with the JUNO Award–winning mixing engineer Jamie Kuse.

Throughout the record, she opens up about identity, vulnerability and the experience of embracing the parts of herself that once felt difficult to accept. Leosis shared in a recent press release, "This album was a love-letter to myself, a way of using music to work through a lot of things I needed in order for me to shed insecurities and doubts and replace them with joy and freedom."

Standing six feet tall, with a deep voice and unmistakable presence, the artist has often felt pressure to shrink herself to fit expectations. don't get hurt reflects a shift away from that mindset, documenting a process of reclaiming space, setting boundaries and embracing individuality.

To mark the album's release, Leosis will take the new material on the road with four shows across Ontario and Quebec. Check out the album below, where you'll also find her tour itinerary.

Lex Leosis 2026 Tour Dates:

05/07 Toronto, ON - Departure Festival, Division 88
06/12 Toronto, ON - NXNE
07/18 Sudbury, ON - Fierte Sudbury
07/24 Baie-St-Paul, QC - Le Festif!
