Slipknot Extends Their Early Success

Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Slipknot has been entertaining adoring fans for more than ten years with their alternative metal, heavy metal, nu metal, and rapcore albums and singles. The group, which is currently on hiatus, has been attracting a following with their rather extreme musical and performance style since 1995.

Background Information

Consisting of nine members, Slipknot has produced the majority of their music under the Roadrunner label since 1997. The band utilizes a common guitar arrangement, showcasing the talents of a lead and rhythm guitarist, as well as a bassist. A unique characteristic associated with the band is that unlike other groups, Slipknot includes two percussionists alongside their primary drummer. Through their evolution, Slipknot moved from near growling vocal sounds to the more recent melodic-infused style, while the lyrics have always presented aggressive tones and dark subject matter, including anger and nihilism.

Brief Career History

The group was known during its early years as The Pale Ones, Meld, and Pyg system before settling on their current name. It was during that time that most of the songs appearing on the album "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat" and later productions were created. Before Joey Jordison became a part of the band, the lead drummer position was given to Shawn Crahan (the founder of the group). It was Crahan who wished to create a distinct tribal resonance and what he called a wall of sound by using three drummers. Jordison is credited with later designing the band logo, which capitalized the k to pay homage to one of their major influences, Korn.

Over the years, many changes occurred in the lineup of the band. After the release of their first album on Halloween 1996, lead vocalist Anders Colsefini was moved to percussion and replaced with Corey Taylor. Colsefini left the band soon after, just before the group solidified a deal with Roadrunner Records. A self-titled album followed, and the group began to make their rounds touring with Ozzfest and achieving platinum sales status in 2000. This was a first for any album associated with Roadrunner Records.

A second album, "Iowa," was released in 2001, as the band once again toured, appeared in several different concerts, and was nominated for a Grammy in 2002. After the release of their fourth album, which continued to experiment with different song structures, additional tours were booked; a live album was released; and after a Grammy win for Best Metal Performance for "Before I Forget" in 2006, an interview with Corey Taylor revealed the group would take a break until 2008 while band members worked on side projects.

Current Members

Designated numbers and the masks identify current Slipknot members. Sid Wilson (0, turntables) wears a skull mask; Joey Jordison (1, drums) wears a white Japanese Noh mask with black lines; Paul Gray (2, bass guitar) wears a Hannibal-Lecter-type mask; Chris Fehn (3, custom percussion and backing vocals) wears a Pinocchio-style mask connected to a leather hood with zippable mouth; James Root (4, rhythm guitar) wears a white Jester mask; Craig Jones (5, keyboards) wears a mask with black needles coming from all directions; Shawn Crahan (6, custom percussion, backing vocals) traded a happy clown face for the look of a bloody, bandaged clown; Mick Thompson (7, lead guitar) wears a metal face with a grill-style mouth cover; and Corey Taylor (8, lead vocals) wears a Leatherface stitched face mask.

Former Members

Over the years, Slipknot has made a handful of changes to their lineup, especially with their guitar players. Former band members include Donnie Steele (guitar); Greg Welts (percussion); Josh Brainard (guitar and backing vocals); John Green (guitar); Quan Nong (guitar); and Patrick Neuwirth (guitar).

Discography and Musical Achievements

Released under a small record company based in Nebraska in 1996, "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat" became Slipknot's first album. Under Roadrunner Records, the group has reached two-time platinum status with their second album, "Slipknot" (1999), followed by the 2001 platinum record "Iowa"; the 2004 platinum record, "Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)"; and the 2005 "9.0 Live." An anticipated album is currently scheduled for a 2008 release. The single "Duality" from their 2004 album reached the Top 10 lists across U.S. modern rock and mainstream rock charts.

Slipknot's work has also appeared on a series of major motion picture soundtracks, including "Rollerball" (I Am Hated); "Resident Evil" (My Plague); "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" (Vermillion); "Scream 3" (Wait and Bleed); and "Freddy vs. Jason" (Snap). Over the years, the band has released a couple of DVDs which have reached a multiple-platinum sales status. "Welcome To Our Neighborhood" (1999), "Disasterpieces" (2002), and "Voliminal: Inside The Nine" (2006) has all become popular DVD selections.

Overall, the band has appeared on a wide range of major national and international tours, such as Ozzfest and various events in Stockholm and Japan. The group easily reached the level of Grammy award status, as nominations for the Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance were bestowed upon singles from three out of four of their albums. In 2006, they took home their first Grammy.

Blink 182 (pronounced "blink one eighty two") is a punk band from San Diego, California, U.S. formed in 1992 by Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Scott Raynor in the northern San Diego suburb of Poway. Travis Barker replaced Raynor on drums in 1998, midway through blink-182's US tour. The group went on "indefinite hiatus" in 2005. In 2006, Mark Hoppus & Travis Barker conducted an interview with MTV and confirmed that the group is officially broken up.

The group was known for their catchy melodies, as well as for satirical, and sometimes profanity-laden, toilet humor. Musically, the band played up-tempo songs with prominent major-chord harmonies, often digitally mixed, to provide a much cleaner sound than typical punk/rock recordings, which generally exhibit distortion and analogue mixes to achieve the opposite effect. However, their last album showed a significant departure from their previous works and helped exhibit their more mature musical prowess while showcasing some advancement in the sophistication of their lyrical themes. The lyrical content of their songs, prior to their last album, was usually humorous and light hearted. blink-182 fans were predominantly teenagers; however, they managed to establish a more mature following with their latest offering.

Although the band is labeled as Blink 182 on albums prior to Raynor's departure, the official rendering of the band's name is blink-182. The numbers 182 were added to the band's name to prevent a trademark conflict with the Irish pop group Blink. However, fans frequently refer to the band informally as 'Blink'.

History:
Early career (1992-1995)
The beginnings of the band can be traced back to the early '90s when DeLonge was reportedly expelled from Poway High School during junior year after being caught drunk at a school basketball game. After he transferred to another school, he met Anne Hoppus, sister of Mark Hoppus, who introduced DeLonge to her brother. The day the two future bandmates met, they were skateboarding with friends in a plaza parking lot and to impress DeLonge, Hoppus climbed a lamp post and jumped from the top, cracking both heels. The two hit it off and eventually came up with the name "Duck Tape" for the name of new band. Duck Tape soon transformed into Blink. In need of a drummer, DeLonge recruited 14-year-old Scott Raynor, whom he had seen playing at a "Battle of the Bands".

In May 1993, Blink released a demo tape entitled Flyswatter, recorded in drummer Scott Raynor's bedroom. It was their first album and a 4-track was used to record the material, resulting in poor sound quality and according to Hoppus, only around fifty copies were produced. Their first real show took place at a bar and since they were underage, they were only allowed to enter when it was time for their set. They bought 50 tickets to sell, but no one came to see them. After only one song Blink was kicked off the stage and out of the bar. Before the end of the year, the band released another demo tape known as Buddha. Around 1,000 copies were produced by Filter Records (owned by Hoppus' boss).

In early 1994, the success of the Buddha demo lead to Blink being signed with Cargo Records. Blink recorded their debut full-length album, Cheshire Cat in just three days. The album contained a number of updated versions of songs that had appeared on the Buddha demo.

Shortly after the release of Cheshire Cat, Blink was threatened with legal action by a techno band in Ireland of the same name. In order to avoid a lengthy lawsuit, Blink appended "-182" to the end of their name. There are several rumours as to why these numbers were ultimately chosen, such as their correspondence to the number of times Al Pacino utters the word "Fuck" in Scarface, the 1985 Timothy Hutton film, Turk 182!, their representation of Hoppus's ideal weight, or that they represent the position in the alphabet of the letters 'R' and 'B,' referring to the northern San Diego suburb of Rancho Bernardo. However, the band members have dismissed such claims and maintain that the numbers were picked at random. However, in one interview, Barker stated that the "182" was the U.S. radio code meaning 'homicide' (apparently confusing "182," the radio code for conspiracy, with "187"). In terms of the rock genre, nothing can really get better than Metallica. For some time now, they have been belting out hit tracks, one after the other. The latest addition to the Metallica gallery, Death Magnetic, has been topping the charts now for almost three weeks in a row. In a space where a lot of leading rock bands is jostling for the top spot, Metallica with its unique flavor and fervor has managed to establish more than a niche for them.

With the latest hit answering to the name of Death Magnetic, the record industry has been taken by storm. In due course of time, a lot of players in this domain like Jessica Simpson, Young Jeezy, and Ne-You have spruced up with their challenge. Needless to say, however strong their challenge was, Metallica's Death Magnetic has surged way ahead in terms of popularity. This combination has made people go absolutely nuts when they hear Metallica for the first time. Obviously, people who have heard Metallica before would not be surprised by what they hear. And you would also find newbie to the Metallica fold, absolutely freaking out with the earphones on!

For now, Metallica's Death Magnetic is number one in the records industry. Looking at the competition it faces, it has to be said that the Magnetic has done admirably well. One thing is for sure though - You cannot find any competing album coming close to matching the achievements of the Death Magnetic. And while the whole world looks on, maybe only some other Metallica album could match what the Magnetic has done!

In the mid-'70s the Ramones shaped the sound of punk rock in New York with simple, fast songs, deadpan lyrics, no solos, and an impenetrable wall of guitar chords. The cultural importance of the Ramones became most apparent in 2001, when leader Joey Ramone was eulogized not only in the rock press but the New York Times and other general media.

The group formed in 1974 after the foursome graduated or left high school in Forest Hills, New York. The original lineup featured Joey on drums, Dee Dee sharing guitar with Johnny, and Tommy as manager, but they soon settled on their recording setup.

In 1976 Ramones was a definitive punk statement, with songs like “Beat on the Brat,” “Blitzkrieg Bop,” and “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”- 14 of them, clocking in at under 30 minutes. The group traveled to England in 1976, giving the nascent British punk scene the same boost they had provided to New Yorkers. Before the year was out, Ramones Leave Home had been released. As throughout its career, the band toured almost incessantly. With their next two singles, the group began to soften their sound slightly.

After Subterranean Jungle, Marky Ramone departed, to be replaced by ex-Velveteens Richard Beau. As Richie Ramone, the drummer played on four albums, before Marky returned in 1987. Too Tough to Die, with Eurythmic Dave Stewart producing the pop single “Howling at the Moon,” recaptured some of their ’70s energy, and “Bonzo Goes to Bitburg” off Animal Boy offered cutting political satire.

In 1989 the Ramones gained their widest exposure with the title track to the soundtrack for Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, but also underwent their most significant internal shift. Dee Dee departed, first to record, as Dee Dee King, a rap album, Standing in the Spotlight, and then to form the rock group Chinese Dragons. His post-Ramones career included publishing the autobiography Poisoned Heart: Surviving the Ramones and, in the late ’90s, playing with his wife, Barbara, and Marky Ramone in the Ramones spinoff unit, the Ramainz. AWOL from the marines at the time he enlisted in the band, C.J. Ramone infused youthful energy - he was 14 years younger than Joey and Johnny - but the band’s sound remained the same.

Marky formed Marky Ramone and the Intruders and has released two albums to date. Joey went on to manage the Independents, a horror-punk-ska band, to act in the indie film Final Rinse, and, in 1999, to coproduce a Ronnie Spector EP, She Talks to Rainbows. The U.S. Congress proclaimed May 19, 2001, Joey Ramone Day. After being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 2002, fellow Ramones Dee Dee and Johnny soon passed away; Dee Dee from a heroin overdose on June 5, 2002 and Johnny from prostate cancer on September 15, 2004.

music and CBGB , a then-little-known music rock club, was founded in December 1973, on the site of Kristal's earlier bar, Hilly's on the Bowery, which he ran from 1969 to 1972. Originally, Kristal had focused on his more profitable West Village nightspot, Hilly's, but complaints from the bar's neighbors forced Hilly's to close, leading its owner to concentrate on the Bowery club. The full name is CBGB & OMFUG which stands for "Country Bluegrass Blues and Other music For Uplifting Gormandizers". Gormandizer usually means a ravenous eater of food, but according to Kristal here it means "a voracious eater of ... music ". The club was also affectionately called simply "CB's". As its name implied, Kristal intended the bar to feature Country, Bluegrass and Blues music (along with poetry readings), but it became famous as the birthplace of the American punk movement.

Kebanyakan orang melihat music rock tidak akan jauh dari keonaran, drugs, sex, dll yang sebagian besar berpengaruh negatif. Padahal ada satu sisi bagaimana suatu lifestyle ( gaya hidup ) yang dipelopori oleh music punk dan hardcore yaitu Straight Edge.

Seorang Straight Edge anti untuk menggunakan drugs, menghisap rokok, melakukan seks bebas dan sebagian orang Straight Edge tidak memakan makanan yang berasal dari hewan. Namun, bukan berarti seorang Straight Edge adalah Vegetarian begitupun sebaliknya Vegetarian tidak selalu Straight Edge karena tidak ada kewajiban bagi seseorang yang hidup dengan lifestyle Straight Edge untuk menjadi seorang Vegan. Youth of Today lah yang paling gencar menyuarakan Animal Right dan Animal Cruelty pada era Youth Crew..

Pemahaman mengenai Straight Edge sebenarnya sudah muncul pada lagu The Modern Lovers yang beraliran protopunk tahun 70an. Namun, Straight Edge lebih banyak diangkat oleh band Minor Threat pada tahun 1981, bahkan untuk istilah “ Straight Edge “ pun diambil dari judul lagunya Minor Threat. Sehingga Straight Edge berkembang di Washington DC dan New York.

Ada suatu simbol dimana seseorang yang ber lifestyle Straight Edge dapat dikenali. Biasanya para Straight Edge membuat symbol diatas punggung tangannya dengan symbol “X”. Sebenarnya awal dari munculnya symbol ini disebabkan secara accidental yaitu pada saat dimana sebuah band yang akan melakukan pentas disebuah klub yang menjual minuman beralkohol untuk pengunjungnya. Awalnya pihak Manajemen klub itu tidak mengizinkan band untuk manggung di klub itu dengan dasar sebagian personilnya masih ada yang dibawah umur untuk masuk ke klub tersebut yang menjual miras. Setelah ditemukan kesepakatan, dan band itu diperbolehkan untuk manggung dengan syarat bahwa personil yang dibawah umur harus ditandai huruf “X” dengan menggunakan spidol diatas punggung tangannya agar diketahui masih belum cukup umur dan tidak diperbolehkan meminum minuman beralkohol. Itu juga untuk memberikan kemudahan untuk para bartender yang akan menawarkan minuman kepada pengunjung yang mengkonsumsi minuman keras dan yang tidak. Sejak itulah symbol itu dijadikan movement untuk memunculkan symbol “X”. Dan hingga saat ini symbol “X” digunakan sebagai symbol dari seorang Straight Edge.(VIAN/KLIKfour)

Kemampuan untuk memainkan musik blues menjadi standar bagi semua musisi Jazz, seniman seperti Bessie Smith, Ma Raney, dan Louis Armstrong menitikberatkan Blues sebagai pondasi untuk menciptakan sebuah karya Jazz. (Improvisational musik yang pertama kali menjadi popular dalam Dance Bands sepanjang tahun 1900-an).

Jazz terlahir dari orang-orang kulit hitam di Amerika yang tertindas, dan Jazz itu sendiri merupakan sebuah seni ekspresi dalam bentuk musik yang mengeksfresikan pertahanan hidup dari orang-orang kulit hitam yang tertindas. Jazz banyak dianggap sebagai musiknya kaum-kaum elit dan mapan namun apabila kita melihat dari awal berdirinya musik jazz justru sangat bertolak belakang. Yang menarik ternyata asal kata “Jazz” diambil dari sebuah istilah vulgar yang digunakan untuk aksi seksual.

Jazz berawal dari gabungan gaya musik Eropa dan Afrika. Pada tahun 1980-an, Ragtime aliran musik yang pertama kali menggabungkan irama musik Afrika yang sederhana dan musik dari Eropa yang memiliki irama dan harmony yang sangat kompleks, Ragtime merupakan asal-muasalnya musik Jazz. Dan pada umumnya menampilkan permainan piano tunggal (it wasn't until the 1900s that the ragtime style was performed by small groups) Scott Joplin salah satu komposer yang sangat populer pada saat itu, dengan karyanya "Maple Leaf Rag", menyusul komposer-komposer lainnya seperti William Krell, James Scott, Louis Chauvin, dan Joseph Lamb.

Jazz dimulai di New Orleans dan berkembang ke Sungai Mississippi, Memphis, St. Louis, dan akhirnya Chicago Setengah abad kemudian, musik Jazz di Amerika memberi banyak kontribusi di dunia musik, dipelajari di universitas, dan akhirnya menjadi sebuah aliran musik yang serius dan diperhitungkan. Jazz sebagai seni yang populer mulai menyebar ke hampir semua masyarakat Amerika pada tahun 1920-an (dikenal sebagai Jazz Age). Jazz semakin marak di era Swing pada akhir 1930-an, dan mencapai puncaknya di akhir 1950-an sebagai jazz modern. Di awal tahun 20-an dan 30-an.

Petiklah aku..mainkan nada-nada yang indah ditubuhku…akulah Guitar…jangan hanya pintar memainkan alat musik yang satu ini dong…tapi apa kamu tau sejarahnya guitar..kalo ngaku seorang guitaris mesti tau donk dari mana asal muasalnya si guitars ini..

Guitar , pada mulanya diambil dari nama alat musik petik kuno di wilayah Persia pada kira-kira tahun 1500 SM yang dikenal sebagai citar atau sehtar…wah ga nyangka ternyata Tua banget ya umur si Guitar…hehehe.. Alat musik ini kemudian berkembang menjadi berbagai macam model guitar kuno yang dikenal dengan istilah umum tanbur. Pada tahun 300 SM Tanbur Persia dikembangkan oleh bangsa Yunani dan enam abad kemudian oleh bangsa Romawi (Bellow, 1970:54-55)…hey itu kan jamannya perang…nah terbukti kan meskipun jamannya perang musik tetap ga bisa ditinggalin..musik merupakan bagian hidup yang takan pernah bisa terlepas…ko jadi curhat sich…balik lagi yu…. Pada tahun 476M alat musik ini dibawa oleh bangsa Romawi ke Spanyol dan bertransformasi menjadi: (1) guitarra Morisca yang berfungsi sebagai pembawa melodi, dan (2) Guitarra Latina untuk memainkan akor. Tiga abad kemudian bangsa Arab membawa semacam guitar gambus dengan sebutan al ud ke Spanyol (Summerfield, 1982:12). Berdasarkan konstruksi al ud Arab dan kedua model guitar dari Romawi tersebut, bangsa Spanyol kemudian membuat alat musiknya sendiri yang disebut vihuela. Sebagai hasilnya, vihuela menjadi populer di Spanyol sementara alat-alat musik pendahulunya sedikit demi sedikit ditinggalkan. Walaupun demikian al ud dibawa orang ke negara-negara Eropa Barat dan menyaingi popularitas vihuela di Spanyol. Di Eropa al ud disambut dengan baik dan berkembang menjadi berbagai model lute Eropa hingga kira-kira akhir abad ke-17. Sementara itu vihuela berkembang terus menjadi berbagai macam gitar selama berabad-abad hingga akhirnya menjadi gitar klasik yang digunakan pada saat ini.

Moshing…apa itu moshing…bagi mereka yang ga tau apa itu moshing mungkin mengira lagi ada tawuran..hahahaha…moshing identik dengan musik-musik cadas…mereka para penikmat musik cadas atau musik-musik underground mengekfresikan musik tersebut dengan sebuah tarian reflek seperti body slamming, headbanging, dan crowdsurfing yang dilancarkan secara agresif..ya begitulah cara mereka mengekfresikan..mungkin karna musik underground memang musik yang memiliki adrenalin tinggi..masa musiknya underground malah ballet ga mungkin kan jadi ga nyambung dong…ga keliatan deh kesan sangarnya…hahahaha…tapi hati-hati loh saat kita moshing..yang tadinya mau menikmati musik malah cedera dan akhirnya masuk rumah sakit…yang lebih parah lagi…jadi ilang nyawa…ih sereeeeeemmmm!!!! Kalian ga mau kan seperti itu,, saya punya sedikit tips nih biar aman-aman aja…

Nah sebelum kita memasuki Mosh pit (sebutan buat arena moshing) sebelum menjadi bagian dari crowd yang super agresif ini…sebaiknya kita perhatikan dulu cara berpakaian kita deh..yang pastinya pake baju yang nyaman donk..kebayang dong Mosh pit pasti sangat panas dan gerah..namun disarankan pake baju lengan panjang. “hey tambah panas dong!!!”..tar dulu bukan itu maksudnya…maksudnya biar menambah perlindungan, juga bisa menghindarkan diri dari keringat sesama crowd yang pastinya akan sangat banyak melakukan kontak ”up-close-and-personal” dengan kamu..nah kamu pasti bakal banyak ngeluarin keringat kan…makanya bawa air minum yang banyak tapi inget loh bukan miras...hehehe..but don’t drink it in mosh pit area…tar kalo tumpah bisa licin tar ada yang jatoh keinjek-injek gimana ayoo… Kalau terpaksa ingin minum, lakukan di luar mosh pit…

Nah bagian celana sangat penting nih…masa moshing ga pake celana..hahaha..tapi jangan salah banyak juga loh yang melepas celana mereka pada saat moshing entah karna gerah ato hanya pamer aksi ya ga tau jugaapa mau mereka..hindari hal seperti itu…pilih celana panjang yang biasa aja jangan bagus-bagus amat..tar sayang loh kalo rusak trus sobek…yang bagus nya simpan aja dirumah buat kencan sama doi..hehehe.. Pakai combat pants, atau denim yang lebih kuat.

Untuk bagian kaki..hindari pake sandal jepit…pilih sepatu lars, Selain kuat, sepatu lars juga bisa membantu menstabilkan pergelangan kaki. Sepatu lars membuat kaki loe lebih nyaman dan mengurangi resiko cidera. Juga mengurangi resiko luka karena terinjak mosher lain..kebayang kan seandainya kita pake sandal jepit…abis deh tuh kaki di injekin pada saat moshing….

Untuk asesoris hindari pake pin, rantai…kalo sampai merusak baju kamu karna pinnya ketarik mosher lain yang tadinya keren malah brantakan…mana pin nya hasil koleksi..sayang banget kan…kalo pin sama rantai lo yang keren jadi ilang dan merusak pakaian kamu yang tadinya keren..gelang atau kalung, hindari metal-metal yang berbentuk tajam. Bahaya buat mosher lain. Ganti dulu dengan yang berbentuk flat metal, chain, blunt pyramid, atau dome stud. Piercing juga sama. Jangan pakai titanium yang menggantung, soalnya kalau ketarik mosher lain bisa menyobek kulit. Lebih baik lepaskan atau ganti dengan bentuk yang lebih aman seperti stud atau loop.

Saran terakhir dari saya kalo emang pengen bener-bener terhindar dari semua kecelakaan yang terjadi saat moshing…ya jangan ikut-ikutan moshing…hehehehe..VIVA LA METAL!!!!!!!..(YURRY/KLIKfour)

One Of Punk Subgenre

Melodic Punk
Pada dasarnya Melodic Punk ini merupakan akar dari Punk, seperti pendahulunya Punk pun sebenarnya berawal dari Rock N Roll seperti Sex Pistol dan Ramones. Melodic Punk bisa juga dikatakan sebagai kemasan baru dari Punk, mengapa begitu? Bisa dilihat dari lyric band-band melodic Punk meskipun banyak yang mengangkat tema percintaan mereka menyampaikan dengan kata-kata mereka sendiri tanpa aturan, tidak perlu harus puitis malah menjurus kasar. Sama halnya dengan Punk yang mengutamakan kebebasan yang tidak mau diatur.

Kalau kita melihat ke belakang, di awal kemunculannya Punk yang di pelopori oleh band-band seperti The Clash dan Sex Pistol memiliki ciri khas musik yang hanya memakai 3-4 chord saja. Liryc-lyric mereka penuh dengan protes terhadap ketidakadilan, isu social, isu politik, perbedaan ras, dan lainnya yang bersifat provokasi terhadap massa.

Hal-hal semacam itu kemudian berubah sekitar pada tahun 1990-an. Icon band pada masa 1990-an yaitu Green Day. Dimana pada masa 1990-an ini Punk lebih ramah beda dengan image Punk jaman dahulu yang radikal. Lyricnya lebih membahas tentang hubungan antar individu, seperti pacar, keluarga, dan kejadian sehari-hari yang lebih umum. Musiknya pun lebih ramah dan bisa diterima oleh semua kalangan. Setelah Green Day kemudian bermunculan band-band lainnya yang lebih punya tampang dan lebih menjual seperti Blik-182.

Pada intinya di setiap masanya ada penyesuaian dari musik Punk hingga menjadi Melodic Punk. Dan mungkin akan menjadi masalah bagi orang yang tidak menyukai jenis musik Melodic Punk ini. Ada yang bilang Melodic Punk musik untuk cewek itu kata orang yang tidak suka Melodic Punk. Ada yang bilang Melodic Punk bukan Punk itu kata orang yang merasa Punk tercemari. Terlepas dari itu semua sebenarnya Melodic Punk ini merupakan akar dari Punk yang banyak mengalami perubahan sejalan dengan perkembangan zaman.

Beberapa ciri khas dari Melodic Punk ini diantaranya dari segi liryc beberapa band masih mengangkat topic politik seperti NOFX tapi lainnya seputar topic umum seperti kejadian sehari-hari dan percintaan. Dari segi vocal, vocal yang halus mirip Boys Band. Dari segi guitar tidak lagi hanya terdiri dari 3-4 chord seperti pendahulunya Punk, Melodic Punk terdiri dari banyak chord dan unsure melodinya lebih jelas. Dari segi Drum memiliki tempo yang lebih cepat dari Punkrock. Dari segi style umumnya rambut spike atau belah samping setengah gondrong, bisa pakai topi juga, kemeja kotak panjang atau kaos oblong, celana jeans belel atau celana pendek pas lutut, sepatu skate atau kanvas. Tapi itu hanya gambaran umum style melodicers tidak menutup kemungkinan tidak seperti itu yang penting suka dan mengerti Melodic Punk itu sendiri….tul ga?

Beberapa band Melodic Punk yang saya tahu diantarannya : NO USE FOR A NAME, NOFX, BLINK-182, RUFIO, SUM 41, MXPX, ALKALINE TRIO, LAGWAGON, A NEW FOUND GLORY, NOT AVAILABLE, MILLENCOLIN, THE OFFSPRING, THE DESCENDENTS, THE ATARIS, SENDAL JEPIT, ROCKET ROCKERS, NUDIST ISLAND, BUCKSINBUGLE, CLOSE HEAD, THE MARMARS, THE FRUSTATER, ENDANK SOEKAMTI, THE SUPERGLAD. Masih banyak sih tapi seenggaknya band-band diatas bisa dijadiin influence buat bikin band Melodic Punk.(ALAN/KLIKfour)

Sebenarnya luas juga sih kalau kita membicarakan Punk. Seperti yang saya kutip diatas dari Wikipedia, Punk bukan sekedar aliran musik, melainkan sub-budaya yang lahir di London, Inggris yang merupakan sebuah gerakan perlawanan anak muda yang berlandaskan dari keyakinan we can do it ourselves. Punk juga dapat berarti jenis musik atau genre yang lahir di awal tahun 1970-an. Bisa juga berarti ideologi hidup yang mencakup aspek sosial dan politik. Penilaian punk dalam melihat suatu masalah dapat dilihat melalui lirik-lirik lagunya yang bercerita tentang masalah politik, lingkungan hidup, ekonomi, ideologi, sosial dan bahkan masalah agama.

Gerakan anak muda Punk ini diawali oleh anak-anak kelas pekerja dan dengan segera merambah Amerika yang mengalami masalah ekonomi dan keuangan yang dipicu oleh kemerosotan moral oleh para tokoh politik yang memicu tingkat pengangguran dan kriminalitas yang tinggi. Punk berusaha menyindir para penguasa dengan caranya sendiri, melalui lagu-lagu dengan musik dan lirik yang sederhana namun terkadang kasar, beat yang cepat dan menghentak. Juga dengan gaya berpakaian mereka yang khas.

Di Inggris pernah terjadi wabah pengguna lem berbau tajam (he...he... ternyata kalau masalah lem mengelem pengamen Indonesia juga ga kalah banyak ya...!), itu dilakukan karena mereka sudah tidak mampu lagi membeli beer. Dari situlah banyak yang menyalahartikan bahwa Punk adalah sebagai glue sniffer dan perusuh. Banyak pula yang merusak citra punk karena banyak dari mereka yang berkeliaran di jalanan dan melakukan berbagai tindak kriminal.

Punk lebih terkenal dari hal fashion yang dikenakan dan tingkah laku yang mereka perlihatkan, seperti potongan rambut mohawk ala suku indian, atau dipotong ala feathercut dan diwarnai dengan warna-warna yang terang, sepatu boots, rantai dan spike, jaket kulit, celana jeans ketat dan baju yang lusuh, anti kemapanan, anti sosial, kaum perusuh dan kriminal dari kelas rendah, pemabuk berbahaya sehingga banyak yang mengira bahwa orang yang berpenampilan seperti itu sudah layak untuk disebut sebagai punker.

Gaya hidup dan Ideologi Punk
Sebenarnya gaya hidup itu relatif, ga ada seorangpun yang memiliki gaya hidup yang sama dengan yang lainnya. Kalau yang mirip ada kali yaa...

Ngomong-ngomong Ideologi jadi ingat pelajaran sejarah dulu. Ideologi diambil dari kata ideas dan logos yang berarti buah pikiran yang murni dalam kehidupan.

Gaya hidup Punk yaitu dandanan ngasal, memprovokasi orang lain secara terang-terangan, sengaja memperliatkan kualitas yang rendah, yang pasti mereka anti kemapanan. Itu dilakukan sebagai bentuk kekecewaan sosial,politik, musik.

Ideologi Anarkisme yang dianut Punk merupakan bentuk perlawanan mereka terhadap aturan pemerintah yang seringkali bersifat pemaksaan. Dengan harapan bila dominasi pemerintah terhadap rakyat terhapuskan, rakyat dapat memanfaatkan sumberdaya manusia dan kekayaan alam akan berkembang sendiri tanpa campur tangan pemerintah.

Ideologi Anarkisme Punk tidak hanya sebatas masalah politik saja, mereka menerapkannya dalam keseharian mereka. Seperti, mereka menciptakan aturan mereka sendiri dalam masyarakat, mereka membuat aturan sendiri terhadap perusahaan rekaman, dll. Etika seperti ini disebut DIY ( Do It Yourself ). (ALAN/ KLIKfour)

"Garage rock" is a raw form of rock and roll that enjoyed its original period of wide success in the United States, where it originated and Canada from 1963 to 1967.

"Garage rock" comes from the perception that many such performers were young and amateurish, and often rehearsed in a family garage. This connotation also evokes a suburban, middle-class setting. It is, of course, quite simplistic to conclude that all garage bands met this demographic dynamic. Some bands were made up of middle-class teenagers from the suburbs, while others were comprised of professional musicians in their twenties or older.
The best songs of the genre conveyed great passion and energy. The performances were often amateurish or naïve. Typical themes revolved around the traumas of high school life, and lyin’ and cheatin’ girls (or boys). Superficially, this implies that the music was very limited. In reality, "Garage rock" performers were quite diverse in both musical ability and in style. Bands ranged the gamut from one-chord musical crudeness

Musik The Strokes mungkin memang sudah lekat ditelinga kita. Keempat pemuda New-York ini . Sebuah penolakan total terhadap cita-cita rock 1970-an yang dangkal. Kesederhanaan garage rock membuktikan bahwa siapapun dapat bermain musik.
Garage rock adalah bentuk mentah dari rock n roll. Tumbuh ditengah maraknya rock progressive di diawal 1960an. Garage rock tampil cukup mumpuni, tanpa manuver-manuver canggih yang menuntut kemampuan bermusik yang tinggi. Tidak begitu terdengar dikala psychedelic menengelamkan remaja pada masa itu kedalam batas kesadaran mereka. Namun pada tahun-tahun selanjutnya garage-rock tidak tanggung-tanggung membaharui pola pikir dan destinasi dari musik dunia.
Canada 1963-1967 adalah masa explorasi musik terdalam sampai pada akhirnya garage rock ditemukan.
