Gary Williams discusses his experience as a self publisher and talk about his latest book, Historic Tours of Ohio. Gary also shares anecdotes about the research and writing of his earlier books: Spies, Scoundrels and Rogues of the Ohio Frontier, Gliding to a Better Place: Profiles From Ohio's Territorial Era, and The Forts of Ohio: A Guide to Military Stockades. Gary's talk is 26 minutes in length.

Dr. Bil Kerrigan, Meredith Bowman, and Alicia Seng share their experiences researching the history of the creation of Salt Fork State Park. Meredith and Alicia were Muskie Fellows during the summer of 2006 and spent a lot of time in the field collecting photographs and oral histories. Their discussion is 28 minutes in length.

Joy R. Cowdery, Linda Ingling, Linda E. Morrow, and Vicki A. Wilson of the Muskingum College Education Department talk about their newly published textbook, Building on Student Diversity: Profiles and Activities. Their book includes profiles and cumulative folders of six diverse children used to help students learn about diversity in the classroom. Activities in the book help teacher candidates recognize and understand a wide range of cultures and abilities, design instructional activities and assessments that meet the needs of all students, and communicate with families.

Trost'’s book is part of the series, Studies in the Legal History of the South, published by the University of Georgia Press.

Dr. Todd Lekan, Associate Professor of Philosophy, is the author of Making Morality : Pragmatist Reconstruction in Ethical Theory, published in 2003. "Drawing on the work of John Dewey, Lekan asserts that moral norms are neither timeless truths nor subjective whims, but habits transmitted through practices," from an unattributed review.

Dr. Andre DeCuir, Associate Professor of English, will discuss two plays he has written. Vecchio's Last Painting was submitted to a contest for one-acts for teen actors. Heirlooms was written for a contest in which the plays could be no longer than a page and are performed in an airport.

Dr. Joe Reese, lecturer at Muskingum College in the English department, has written two youth novels, Katie Dee and Katie Haw, and Dear Katie Dee. These are funny and gritty stories told in letters from a Texas farm girl in the 1960Â’s, to her best friend. There is nostalgia as well as treatment of harsh realities of farm life in KatieÂ’s letters, all based on experiences the author had while growing up in Texas. School children get to hear Dr. Reese read these stories to them when he visits their classrooms. A group of his listeners illustrated Dear Katie Dee. Reese has also written plays, short stories, articles and essays

November 2005 Author Talk: Dr. Jim Chlovechok

Dr. Jim Chlovechok owns a sports medicine practice in Cambridge and is a former Ohio Athletic Commissioner and a national Bando kickboxing champion He began his suspense novel, Gameface in 1997, the year before Mark McGwire's and Sammy Sosa's famed home run chase. A powerful steroid called "Gameface" plays a role in his novel. "Information on steroid use was available even then, says Chlovechok, although Major League Baseball still kept its head in the sand." Chlovechok says he spent several months with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Kentucky to research the forensic aspects of Gameface, which came out in 2002. He said he has been interviewed about the book and performance enhancing drugs in sports on more than 100 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada. He was asked to comment medically on Curt Schilling's ankle injury on a Boston radio station during the 2004 World Series.
