My 1st Sketchup Pro 8 Test

Just log into Sakai.
It's definitely not an easy task to develop and manage an online course. I'm extremely impressed with the amazing work that the teacher and instructor of this course, developed so far. I meant it! After read and study everything that I suppose to do it. Only now I realized how much work and time are invested.

Anyway, today I will talk about Sakai, Sketchup Pro8, Evernote, Moodle, Blackboard, Astro File and Avast.

Starting by Sakai and Blackboard: Both are very similar. Easy to handle and explore the tools.
Moodle?
Well, all of them have very good tools to develop online courses. So it's up to the Institution or Instructor/Teacher needs. At the moment I'm testing Sakai and Blackboard to develop my project.
Evernote. Similar with the iCalendar tool of Mac. Suitable to help you to manage your tasks, download pictures, video or voice record schedules and observations.

Sketchup Pro8. A very interesting 3D tool, beta program that provides you to develop 3D drawings. Perfect for Art Teachers apply to the 8th-11th Grade. Very easy to use. Once you download you may get 4 hours of a demo version. Video tutorials are available at the welcome page, explaining how to use it, as soon you accomplish the download.
I watched the first video only to have a basic idea of how to use it and developed a very simple Sketch Test. The whole total procedure, including with the dowloading and watching the video Tutorial took me 20 minutes. In the begin, before I watch the video, I thought that 4 hours of free trial, wouldn't be enough. But the whole explanation and the tools available make it easier and smoothly to almost anybody use it.

Mobile Tips to make your life easier
I use Avast as Spy and Anti-virus protection. It is very light and the best part. Free of Charge!
Another App that I use it is Astro File. It helps you to install unofficial apps, send a file into a particular app, open PDF files.
So far I'm using for free.
Evernote is also available as a mobile app.

This course it is helping me a lot! Even in the field to write (which I always had a huge difficulty). Now I see how great importance ICT has in the Education scenario and how I became more motivated to discovery new things related within.

Lately I checked a list of web pages for teachers and for children and adolescents develop their learning skills. Today I'll discuss a bit about English for Intermediate speakers, Aviary tools and another Mathematics games web page for teachers and students.

If you're an ESL teacher and would like to add an extra curricular English material to your students. I found a web page that has the objective to promote critical and creative film to develop language skills. The owner of this brilliant project is Kieran Donaghy, an English teacher at UAB Idiomes Barcelona. The web page has a variety of material. While my period in Vilnius, I was thinking about Blended Learning, Online Learning and so on.

Before I develop an Online Learning platfform, I think I should first of all come up with a couple of ideas and collect more information related. I wrote it down few insights:

What is it online learning?

It is the use of the Internet to access learning materials; to interact with the content, instructor, and other learners; and to obtain support during the learning process, in order to acquire knowledge, to construct personal meaning, and to grow from the learning experience.

Benefits of online learning: for the instructor, tutoring can be done at any time and from anywhere.

Online materials can be updated, and learners are able to see the changes at once.

For learners it is easier due to the access materials on the Internet, it is easier for instructors to direct them to appropriate information based on their needs. Moreover online learning knows no time zones, and location and distance are not an issue.

The idea of I being travelling around and doing this course at the same time, just emphasize this concept. The learner is responsible for the length of the course and the hours dedicated. Becoming a long life learning or shorter.

Why?

"In asynchronous online learning, students can access the online materials at any time, while synchronous online learning allows for real time interaction between students and the instructor. Learners can use the Internet to access up-to-date and relevant learning materials, and can communicate with experts in the field in which they are studying. Situated learning is facilitated, since learners can complete online courses while working on the job or in their own space, and can contextualize the learning."

I'm still developing a brainstorm regarding the project that I want develop it. Building canvas model and analyzing between the several options of ICT's. Right now I'm searching information regarding how to design an online course. I still sense a lack of background information to move forward and still can't picture out the project at the properly way in my head. Still some gaps that must be filled with something. But what?

My question was solved in less than 50 min (:

I found the chapters that describes how to design and I really would like to share.

The first part is the role and function of theory in online education development and delivery, in other words, the pedagogical material already developed.
The second part is the inbound logistics is responsible to develop the Infrastructure and Support for Content Development.
The third part is specified as the operation and outbound logistics session and responsible to design and development of the online course.
The fourth part is characterized as delivery, collaborations, marketing, services and analyses the delivery, quality control and student support of online courses.

That's it for now! I'm returning to the book and come up with further ideas to fill the gaps of my project.

The other word? L.A.
While my short period in L.A. I met a Lady which works as a Special Pedagogue for a school in L.A. She explained about her work and extended experience.
Her work was to discover if any of the students which applied at school, needs extra or any special learning support. One of her students at the second grade, is learning Japanese, despite the English. I had the opportunity to meet the student and listen he speaks Japanese.

There is no doubt that she develops an amazing job!

She told me that they teach them using ICT methods and by motivating, boosting and developing their actual talents.
A pot-pourri of Montessori and Angela Thomas or Cole methodology.

I also met another student which had the capacity to play piano, a natural born copy cat when the subject is related with music. He played for us Lady Gaga. According with his parents he plays all the musics that he usually listen. He was only 6 years old and already so confident and smoothly while playing. He is definitely a naturally born player.

I'm heading to the Bookshop nearby Ocean Av. They have an amazing ludic pedagogical variety to die for. Wish you all a very nice day! By the way, I've walked the whole Ocean Av. trying to find the Oceanside Clinic that appears at Private Practice sitcom and didn't manage to find :-/

WizIQ & Gnocchi in Sibenik

At Sibenik with a delish home made gnocchi within Salmon and Basil Herbs sauce.

Before that, I was thinking about E-learning platforms. And those that include Learning Management Systems such as Moodle and Blackboard. The purpose of this course it is focus on applications that support a true virtual classroom environment with synchronous communication tools.

Like video conferencing, shared whiteboards, shared desktops, real-time chat, real-time collaboration, presenter control and etc.

On my search, I found WizIQ. It was designed as a virtual classroom style educational solution. The teachers can either schedule classes well in advance, including setup of content libraries and audio visual tools, send inviting attendees or simply providing a public link for the class.

The students are invited via email and can receive reminders prior to their classes beginning, if the classes are designed to be synchronous. Instructors can also pre record their classes and allow students to access the content on-demand. In the same way, virtual classes conducted synchronously can be recorded for retrieval later.

WizIQ is only a web based instructional delivery systems. Others include:

I read an article few weeks ago in U.S. about Web 2.0. According with the newspaper, most of the Web 2.0 has technical issues to update to the Web 3.0.
For example My Space and Facebook.
By updating the system, some of the existent Web 2.0. are charging a fee from members or disposing their members personal information to Sales & Marketing Cia.

The discussion it is related with the future of Web 2.0 and which differences Web 3.0 may have.

There are four main areas in which ICT can have a large impact on education services:

In the core delivery of education to students: teaching aids classrooms, modular self-study products to complement classroom teaching, enabling "blended learning" and personal online learning spaces.
In linking education institutions to students: providing information about education institutions, automating application processes, online course enrolments, personal student records and online grant applications.
In linking education institutions, allowing networked learning communities to share ideas and information.
In linking third party suppliers and curriculum boards to educational institutions in roles such as providing e-learning tools, online curricula and training materials.

While my period in Hong Kong I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Brown, co-author of Contemporary Educational Assessment book and he explained that in Australia The Learning Federation is a National pool of online learning content for Australian primary and secondary schools.
ICT was developed by Universities, it is mostly common see its impact among Universities. However it is also taken place at primary and secondary schools worldwide.

In Western countries, Online Learning is serious as much as the situated learning, specially in Europe.
ICT4D is undertaking the highest possible quality of research in the field and making the results of this available freely to the global community. This primarily in the interests of poor people and marginalised communities, wherever they may be found. ICT4D contributes to the delivery of focused short courses on all aspects of ICT4D.

I had the opportunity today to buy an Assessment book and chat with one of the authors.
After our enriched chat I started to search about Test Maker or Quiz Maker. To help me create tests. There you will be able to choose or create multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short answer and true and false questions all on the same test. You can also insert instructions and divide your test into multiple sections and even publish them to the web for students to take online at home or in a controlled classroom setting. Boudica Queen, Dunga, North Korea, Brazil and Live Mocha Methodology

What happened?
The North Korea became suddenly the Scottish Zulu alliance or the Boudica Queen, they ran like wild horses and fought until the last second of the match.
I really don't know what Dunga did during this whole time. So much time, money and hope invested. I was really expecting Brazil play more at the defense and work as a community, pass the ball and so on.
I sincerely hope that with Cotê d'Ivoire, Brazil will do better.
But still, I have to recognize that North Korea played as Warriors. Very good match!

I'm searching an extra method to increase my Chinese skills. At the moment I'm trying this site. Here the learner watches and/or listens to native speakers engage in a conversation. The situation includes new language skills and is presented to learners in a complete real-life setting that helps with the construction of a mental model. For example, the learner may watch a video of people ordering coffee at a coffe house and then complete a short exercise to gauge their own comprehension.

The situation represented in the conversation is broken down into its vocabulary and grammar parts. This allows learners to fully understand the components of the new situation and to learn how those components can be applied to other situations as well.

Finally, the components are reassembled and the learner is given the opportunity to practice via a series of interactive activities. These activities focus on written and spoken production and all involve interaction with and feedback from real native speakers of the language.

I'm searching for Brazilian channels here in Sweden to watch the matches.
So far I found only webb TV, for example TV Brasil, but I heard that have TV Globo here in Sweden and I look forward to listen to Scolari.
Today I watched "Bafana" vs Mexico by a Swedish narrator. It was not the same as watch in my Mother tongue for sure.
In Hong Kong they have ESPN, so was OK. However I don't like so much the way that they narrate the match and am searching for a Cable TV wich has a Brazilian channel.

After travel my other passion is soccer. Last World Cup I was divided between Sweden and Brazil, this year am 100% Brazil and have a strong sympathy for Netherlands, which this year is playing the 60's and 70's Brazilian soccer.
Their team show a strong and equal commitment, which everybody work together without try to pursuit a self merit.
I really miss: Tafarel, Sócrates, Pelé, Zico, Raí, Leonardo, Bebeto, Romário, Branco times. Which everybody was one team one thought one strength and much more humble.

I sincerely hope that Brazil wins, however if didn't happen for some reason...
Netherlands, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, South Africa or Portugal deserve this time. Righty?

The final Match it'll be exactly at the day of my Birthday, let's hope Brazil will at least have the chance to get to the final.

Webs vs Wix

I prefer Webs. It doesn't crash as much as Wix (www.wix.com). I didn't succeed finish my project by using Wix. It gets stuck often and somehow pops notifications regarding system updates quite often.
Boring!...
Webs was perfect! I succeed to create three different webs in a very short time. I higly reccomend.

Charlie Brown Café has its creative and genuine way to make Coffee, the environment of the restaurant is decorated with the Charlie Brown's cartoon characters. You'll be able to enjoy your coffee in the sound of the musics that used to play at the cartoon. Moreover the staff is very kind. At the coffee foam they design one of the characters. Tips around the city after my ICT course. Check it out:

If you choose a restaurant in a typical Chinese area of Hong Kong. For example in Tai Po (New Territories) or anywhere inside of the New Territories district and in some places at Sha Tin (Horse Race station) and in Kwoloon you might pay not more than 50HK$ for a set with 2 or 3 dishes (it depends of the size of the portions).
Hong Kong isn't only Dim Sum, there are also other delicious dishes which you should taste it while your period in these amazing city.

Those bakeries inside of MTR stations in Hong Kong, usually have this delicious vanilla pastry very popular in Portugal, "Pastel de Belém". They also has "Pão de Queijo" very popular cheese balls in Brazil.

Wanchai! If you're in this area in a Wednesday night, get yourself ready for the Ladies Night.
According with the natives, is a Hong Kong tradition to start first of all at Skitz Sports Bar, than after head off to Swindlers, right after check Carnegies Bar & Restaurant (this bar is famous because of the dance pool at the Bar which provide the costumers dance over the Bar). During the Ladies Night drinks are free of charge as well the entrance (only for ladies). After they usually finish the night with a breakfast at Flying Pan and right after grab a Taxi home.

Taxis in Hong Kong are so cheap! However you must pay the tunnel fee, which may vary from the distance and island. For example if you are driving from TST, the price to drive in to Wanchai or to Lantau Island will be totally different.

Usually have a price table on the left side of Taxi's door so you can check out.

When in Hong Kong : My 1st day in HK. Adaptation.

You may find a higher number of budget Guest Houses in Nathan Road.
The most famous is the Chunking Mansion which is nearby the Emperor house.
However according with a fellow from Dubai that I met, the conditions of the hostels aren't good. Further Information: FLR. 13, A4 Chung King Mansion, 36 - 44 Nathan Road (TST), Kowloon Hong Kong, China 13, A4 Chung King Mansion, 36 till 44 Nathan Road (TST), Kowloon Hong Kong.

The Golden crown Guesthouse is a 3 star hostel, the owner is an Indian guy (very kind by the way). He charge 400 HK$ per day and WI FI, air con and daily cleaning are included in the price You may contact: 5/F13 / F, Golden Crown Court, 66-70 Nathan Road, Hong Kong.

Mirador Mansion have Hostels with starting price of 210HK$ or less, for backpackers, simple you may divide with others. I don't know if was the day, but when I dropped to get info. The owner is Raymond a very nice guy. The house maid was very sweet as well. Both quite honest peep. Very difficult to find nowadays. She could talk only Putonghua and few words in English. But still, very kind and always smiling both of them. You may pay 350-400 HK$ per day and in some rooms has pentry. The rooms at the 10th floor provides you a view from Nathan Road and the rooms at the 5th floor are more peaceful. In the price are included WI FI, air con and daily cleaning.
How to get there
From Central station, take the red line to Tsuen Wan and get off at Tsim Tsa Tsui. Walk to B exit Carnavon Road. The back door from Golden Crown Building is a small one nearby a small bank (you may see the Laundry sigh inside of the building, once you step up the short escalator and walk in the building, will have an elevator on your left side, choose the 5th floor. walk out and look to your right, the guesthouse door will be in front of you :-).

In the same building have a Laundry, however I do not recommend her.
In this case I'd recommend you the Pure Laundry which is inside of the Chunking Mansion.

Both places has a reasonable price for the first months until you find a stable place to live.

Bonus Tips

Surrounding

If you're hosted in the heart of Hong Kong (Nathan Road at TST) you should definitely try the food at Republic Food inside of Silvercord at Canton Road with Carnavon Road. A set of three varieties of Dim Sum for 40HK$ only and they have fresh juices for 23HK$. You can pick two fruits.

And if you like late walks with a cup of coffee, staring to Victoria Harbor, it will be only 7-10 min walking. P.S..: The 2nd floor of Victoria Harbor view close at 11 p.m.

There are also good western restaurants and bars in the area.
