Dia de las Madres, Mother’s Day is a day centered on mama. In most countries Mother’s Day is spent giving her the royal treatment. In Spain Mother’s Day is celebrated the first Sunday in May. In Mexico it’s always celebrated on May 10 and it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is. In the United States we celebrate Mother’s Day the second Sunday in May and this year it falls on Sunday, May 13.

Tacos al Pastor with Roasted Pineapple Salsa (Grilled Pork Tacos)

These pineapple and pork tacos are a prime example of fusion food—a cross between Middle Eastern spit-grilled meat, and the guajillo-rub grilled pork served by Mexican street vendors. The meat is quite tender and further enhanced by a spicy, deep-red chipotle-based salsa. The pork has a bit of an orange hue but isn’t spicy only nicely seasoned. Garnish with cilantro, a squeeze of lime, salsa, and red onions.

German/Mexican Chocolate Cake

My hubby loves Baseball Nut ice cream and so every year I order him a Baseball Nut ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins for his birthday. Then it dawned on me, we live in Germany, how in the heck am I going to order him a cake this year? My next thought was how about a chocolate cake, he loves chocolate. He inhales anything made with chocolate, but what kind of chocolate cake should I make him, there are so many. One day I asked him casually over dinner what his absolute favorite cake was and he said German Chocolate cake. Just like that I learned something about him I didn’t know after nineteen years of marriage. Yay! I was on a mission; I would make him the best ever German Chocolate cake from scratch.

I’m sure you’ve heard of SAVEUR magazine…Well get this, Muy Bueno was nominated as one of the finalists in their third annual Best Food Blog Awards as the Best Regional Cuisine Blog AND Best Group Blog!!! Can you believe it?! We’re in shock and completely humbled.

We are huge fans of SAVEUR and have always wanted to be featured somehow, but honestly never imagined it would be on this grand of a scale. Each of the nominated blogs is a beautiful blog in their own right and to be mentioned amongst them, is a big honor for us. The biggest surprise is that we were nominated in two different categories (pinching ourselves in disbelief).

Spicy Baked Hot Wings

Ok, just reading this title and looking at these photos again makes me salivate. I truly am addicted to spicy meals. My grandma loved chile and always had a spicy fresh salsa casera (homemade salsa) on her kitchen table. We used to tease her and tell her that the she no longer had taste buds from all the spicy chile she use to eat with every meal. She used to laugh at us. I can still see her sweet puckered smile and hear her quiet laugh.

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

Remember eating a humongous piece of cake with a tall glass of milk? Well now imagine putting the milk into the cake, but not just any milk – three different types of milk: sweet condensed milk, evaporated milk, and my favorite, coconut milk. In a nutshell this is a sponge cake soaked in milk which is why it has milk oozing out its pores and screamin’ to be eaten. Yes oozing. Oh and another thing, its eaten cold – ice cold, with a dollop of freshly whipped cream and if you like, topped with your favorite fruit. Either way you’re gonna love it.
