Guitar, Bass & Drum Tab of Songs About Shopping

First up is a little “game” for bass players, called Around the World in Bass. The idea is to post things which somehow relate to the bass guitar – brands, amps, bass players, basses, specs, etc. – and the only rule is that you have to use the last letter of the previous post as the first letter of your current post. Check it out!

Of special interest to any drummers out there is the Great Drum Albums thread. As the topic title implies, it’s essentially a growing list of MX member’s favorite albums based on drumming quality. Not only is it a great way to share your drumming influences with other musicians, but it’s also a great way to learn of new drum music you might not have heard before.

Also popular of late are the Favorite Video Game Soundtrack thread (self-explanatory) and the MXTabs Testimonials thread, in which we asked MX members to post something nice about our site. Some of the testimonials are very sincere, while others are somewhat bizarre and quite humorous! Either way, it’s definitely worth a read.

Within the past few months alone, MXTabs.net has signed licensing agreements with three new music publishers: Razor & Tie Music Publishing, Ardent Music, and Tokecko Tunes. These new deals now allow us display everything from Southern Rock Drive-By Truckers tabs and Christian Rock Skillet tabs, to Contemporary Country Toby Keith tabs. Well, seeing as The Sheriff is feeling a bit self-indulgent today (as he sometimes does), I thought I’d simply pick a few of my favorite songs that MXTabs.net has guitar, bass & drum tabs available for. In addition to being one of those if-you-ask-me-five-minutes-from-now-I’d-give-a-different-answer type of things, I must also admit that I did not scour through all 34,000+ songs on MXTabs.net to come up with this list, as that would take far too long to do!

Still, it’s safe to say that the songs listed below are indeed some of my favorites, and ALL of them get a LOT of plays on my iPod. I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into my musical psyche, as well as forgive me for being selfish enough to subject you to The Sheriff’s favorite songs!

Well, apparently we’re in the midst of some kind of “reunion tour renaissance,” because there are literally dozens of bands – some old, some not-so-old – that are rejoining forces and hitting the road once again. What follows is a sampling of some of these reunited bands. Included is a link to song tabs of the band, as well as a link to concert ticket information for their current reunion tour. Finally, if anyone has seen one of these bands on their current reunion tour, I’d love to hear your impressions of the concert. Did they play a “greatest hits” setlist? Or did they mix in some new material? Did they sound fresh & inspired? Would you recommend seeing them live?

Although I jokingly poke fun at Saddle Creek Records for being based in Omaha, the fact of the matter is that since the early 1990s Omaha has been a hub of sorts for many great songwriters and bands, most of whom share a slight country-tinged sound, appropriately known as “The Omaha Sound.” Practitioners of this style, including Conor Oberst and Tim Kasher, were among the first artists signed by Saddle Creek. However, as time passed and the label grew in popularity, many bands outside of Omaha were welcomed into the fold, and today Saddle Creek Records is home to a diverse roster of artists that includes Rilo Kiley, Georgie James, Tokyo Police Club, and many others.

Below you’ll find links to guitar, bass & drum tabs of several Saddle Creek Records recording artists that MXTabs.net have legally secured a license to display. This list includes both active and alumni bands, but is not exhaustive. To find more tabs of your favorite Saddle Creek bands, simply perform a band search on the MXTabs.net homepage. Enjoy!

It’s also worth mentioning that Saddle Creek Records opened their own music venue, called Slowdown, in downtown Omaha, Nebraska in 2007. If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend checking it out. MXTabs.net Tab Editing

As promised, now it’s possible for anyone who has previously submitted a tab to MXTabs.net to login and edit their guitar, bass or drum tabs. If logged in, simply look for the Edit This Tab button on the tab page itself, or look for the Edit This Tab link in the “submitted tabs” area of your MXTabs.net profile page.

Both will bring you to the tab revisions submission page, which is divided into 4 easy steps. The first step allows you to add additional details to your tab if you wish (see Tab Details below!), the second step involves the actual editing of your guitar, bass or drum tab body, and the third step requires you to list the major revisions you’ve made to your tab. Finally, the fourth step asks if you would like to keep the current rating of your tab or clear the rating and start over. This is particularly useful, for instance, if you are just adding a few missing slides to your otherwise 5-Star guitar tab, for you would probably want to keep your current rating. However, if you were completely revamping a tab that had a low rating, maybe you would choose to clear the rating and have members vote on the new version? The choice is yours!

Once you hit the Submit Tab Revisions button, your revised tab will enter a moderation queue – where it will be verified by select members of the MXTabs.net community – and will begin displaying on the site within a few short days.

MXTabs.net Tab Details

As mentioned above, the first step of the Tab Editing process allows you to add additional details to your tab. These optional Tab Details (which now also appear when submitting a tab to MXTabs.net) are mostly instrument-specific and ask you questions such as: Which effects pedals are needed to play your guitar tab? Does your bass tab require a 4-string or 5-string bass? And what drum kit components are used in your drum tab? Some of the other options include the ability to add user tags, indicate what tempo the piece is in, and assign a difficulty rating to your tab. Soon we will begin displaying these tab details on all tab display pages, and we plan on incorporating the data into song searches in the future as well. Pretty cool, no?

Although it’s optional, we hope you will consider editing any tabs you may have already submitted to MXTabs.net to include these extra tab details. Think of it as a good karma exercise – just a few minutes of your time will provide other musicians with a TON of valuable information when learning a new tab, information they won’t find on any other tab site. Who knows, maybe you’ll win the lottery someday in return!

Either way, we hope you enjoy the ability to edit your MXTabs.net guitar, bass & drum tabs. It’s just the next step in our grand scheme to rule the world… er, I mean provide the serious musician with serious tabs. Rock on!
