I'm sorry I haven't gotten this up sooner!

I was being treated for sinusitis and my allergist decided to order a CT scan.

The CT scan came back that I did not have sinusitis, but did find a  cyst on my Parotid gland.

Now, if you are like me I never ever heard of a Parotid gland before, it is a salivary gland on the face.

I found a specialist in the area (who performs 5 of these a week).  He told me it is small, and feels it is benign.

A clue you could have this, if you find what appears to be a small sebaceous cyst below your ear lobe.  Mine is below my right ear lobe.

I have to be honest, one never knows how they will react until something happens.

I've dealt with it by retreating in our home, maybe not the best way, but it is what it is.

I am having surgery on Thursday, I never had surgery before so I am quite nervous.

This is a delicate surgery, but since mine is small my doctor thinks that the surgery will be about 1 hour.

So here's my request ------

The last several months I have not been feeling well, but have persevered on, and was able to be active with my  blog.

Yesterday my health took an unexpected turn.
Actually I was blindsided, results from a Cat Scan took my illness in a whole new direction.  I now need all my energy and focus to tackle what lies ahead for me.

I wanted to let you know that I a taking a break, I just can't focus on anything else.

Isaiah 41:10, 13-14
Fear thou not; for I {am} with thee: be not dismayed; for I {am} thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Please keep me in your prayers,

I shall miss you all, and know I haven't been around to visit only because of this situation.

Did you know that not all olive oil is created equal?
We pay a higher price for extra virgin olive oil, and Did Ya Know... you might not be getting what you paid for?

It might not be extra virgin olive oil, but rather just olive oil.

So how can we tell if the olive oil we are buying really is extra virgin olive oil?
Easy - put you bottle of evoo in the refrigerator (learned this for Dr. Oz) and if it solidifies after at least a day while being cold...it's the real deal.

It does work, I tried it on Aldis's Carlini Evoo and it did solidified (pull bottle out and hold in sunlight, you'll see it)!

To be honest I didn't expect it to be, $3.49, pure extra virgin olive olive oil, I certainly got what I paid for!!!!!

Legumes (beans) add great protein and fiber to a diet.  I also wanted a quick and easy recipe for lunch.  The night before I pre-soaked the beans, and in the morning the beans were cooked for about 2 hours.

You could also use canned, but cooking your own beans is a great way to say money.  2 p0unds of white beans gives me 4 - 3 1/2 cups of beans.  The remainder of the beans were placed in containers and tucked in the  freezer till next time.

It is a quick and easy recipe, very filling and economical!!!

I find the best oil paintings at GW...

this one of the ducks was just too cute to pass up.  It's speaks of spring and will be using in a vignette, $2.99

The stool was too cute to pass up too,

never know when you'll need a stool.  I loved the colors on it, $2.99.

I picked  the stool up at my friends, Pat's, house.  She's a great picker, $8.00

A cute vintage shelf, I don't have large wall spaces, this size will work well here at the Charmer, $1.99

I don't know if this is old or not, but has a cute, quaint feel to it, $2.99

Over the mirror I hung a large vintage basket lid with a white boa wreath inside, simple and cute.

On left side I hung one of my favorite rose plates on the shutter, sorry about photo, it's been so dark and gloomy here the last few days.

Below it I interchanged out a few items, Valentine napkin, some of my knitted roses. I added a pretty rose plate on top of the cake plate and just plopped in a few silk roses in the candlestick, again simple.

I know you can see me in the photo, at least I have on a red sweat shirt on!

Below the mirror I added some of my prettiest rose plates in an old box...I just made the little heart and added to the front.

On the right hand side, which fought me, I just couldn't get the right balance, but am happy with how it looks now.  I used a letter holder I found at GW for a smaller plate rack, added teacups to and a rose planter? to the candelabra.

I just found the cute vase at GW the same day I found the letter holder.  Plucked some more silk roses inside (sorry my budget didn't allow for real roses).

At the top, in this picture I added the drop cloth heart to the silver tray (hot glued) and an simple red bottle.

I have fallen in love with red/white combination since Christmas, so much so I've been thinking about doing a room in red and white.

Have you heard of it before?
The Great Backyard Bird Count is celebrating it's 16th year and is taking place from Friday, February 15, through Monday, February 18!  It is an annual 4-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are. 2013 count is the first year it is WORLDWIDE!

Everyone is welcome--from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds.

Participants tally the number of individual birds of each species they see during their count period. They enter these numbers on the GBBC website.

Why count birds?

It helps scientists and bird enthusiasts know where the birds are. Bird populations are dynamic and constantly in flux. No single scientist or team of scientists could hope to document and understand the complex distribution and movements of so many species in such a short time.

Scientists use the GBBC information, along with observations from other citizen-science projects, such as the Christmas Bird Count, Project FeederWatch, and eBird, to get the “big picture” about what is happening to our bird populations. The longer these data are collected, the more meaningful they become in helping scientists investigate far-reaching questions, like these:

Bird Counting Can Help Answer These Questions?

• How will the weather influence bird populations?

• Where are winter finches and other “irruptive” species that appear in large numbers during some years but not others?

• What kinds of differences in bird diversity are apparent in cities versus suburban, rural, and natural areas?

It's a great way to spend time admiring our beautiful birds while helping them out!
