Yes, but privacy or no, web servers are going to be grabbing a bunch of info. Plus, your ISP has a bunch of info on you too.

I was watching Leo's This Week in Google for this week and they discuss, ad nauseam, the whole privacy policy, and to be honest. From what I read, it isn't all that awful. It actually sounds a lot less nasty than some other policies I have heard about recently.

I thought about blurring out that info, then I realized it was your old address. :)

This isn't a bad idea. Honestly, I'm not sure what can be captured or tracked when the privacy settings are on. There's always a certain amount of information available to the web server through the browser, but I'm not sure about cookies, etc. It may even vary from browser to browser. I'd be surprised if it didn't.

And that last image reminded me that I need to update my résumé.

I've been using DuckDuckGo for a couple of months. It's a little slower and doesn't find everything that Google finds, but it's mostly good enough for what I need. I linked to other alternatives in this post: http://spiritofnine.com/posts/2012/01/12/the-google-fallout-begins/.

Replacing Google for search will be tough because it's best-of-class. Eventually there'll be a strong competitor but that's not going to happen tomorrow. I'm hoping to have some time to review other search engines in the near future.

I got why the sudo was necessary when I saw the error message. I know that /usr/bin or where ever it was going was not privileged to myself. It was actually quite refreshing to be able to solve a problem instead of fighting with iOS and Xcode to get something to work.

Whether it downloads and install prerequisites is part of the CPAN configuration. If you accept the defaults, it should configure itself to do that. sudo is necessary because modules are being installed in /usr/lib or something like that, which requires greater privileges.

Ya, it does look a little confusing now, but I'm guessing as I get better with Perl, that info will make more sense.
That's good to know about installing through 'perl'. I assume it will also download and install all prerequisite modules like the cpanm script does. 'cpanm' didn't ask me anything once I figured out it needs the --sudo option. Actually, when it failed, it gives you a nice list of possible fixes for the failure. I was very impressed by that.

Also, Data::Dumper is a wonderful tool. It give a great (confusing?) visual representation of the data structure. Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to figure it out, but it's well worth it.

To install a module from the command line:

sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell

The first time you run it, it'll ask if you want it to auto-configure. Just say yes and then take the default answers for whatever else it asks. Once that's done, in the future, installing a module is pretty much a two-step process:

sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell

install Net::LastFM

Along the way, it may ask you other questions. I've found that accepting the default answer is sufficient 99.99% of the time.

Good work so far! You're really making progress.

The petition has been up for only 2 days and has 24,500+ signatures already and only need about 500 by Feb, 21st. I really think it will get the 25,000 and way more than that by Feb. 21st.
