I had an ultrasound booked for 8:45 to check how my baby was doing.

Although, my NST went well the day before my ultrasound did not. Baby girl was doing great but there was no measurable amount of amniotic fluid left. We decided to schedule an induction.

We got to boundary trails at noon and had cervidil inserted at 12:30. I wasn't allowed to get up afterwards for 2 hours. Let me tell you 2 hrs is a long time for a woman with a baby that's been sitting on her bladder for quite a few weeks.

At noon, they'd brought me lunch which was hamburger helper with mixed veggies and green bean soup. Looked nasty and I hate pasta do I let John and our child minder, Joanne have it.

Around 13:30, the midwife decided she would go back to her office to check on things there. I also sent Joanne back to work, thinking it may be a long day, or few days.

After my 2 hours of bed rest, 14:30, I was hungry. We went to the cafeteria where I had a turkey sandwich with coffee and a blueberry muffin.

I couldn't finish my muffin and kind of knew the cervidil was working. I mean, i can always finish a blueberry muffin! Lol!! The coffee was absolutely delicious too. I wanted to drink it all but the only reason I'd ordered it was because I was slightly constipated. Well it did its magic!!

By 16:00, I started timing what I felt we're birthing waves. My pressure waves started at 90 seconds apart and lasted for 30 seconds each.

Around a half hour later, I told the nurse and midwife and they explained that the cervidil could sometimes cause the "contractions" and it not affect the body.

Huh?!?! I'm like, this has to be real. They're getting more intense. My midwife decided she would go home, but to call her if i had "bloody show", so I texted Joanne to tell her to go home after work too. This was around 17:00.

I started getting some diarrhea around 17:20, and I could feel my pushing muscles start to engage a little along with some bloody show. I called for my husband and told him to call the midwife and Joanne. I removed my clothing and donned a hospital gown.

I got on the bed and tried getting comfortable as walking and moving wasn't helping. I got on all fours and the nurse asked if she could check me because the midwife was still MIA. she removed the cervidil and examined me. I was fully dilated and effaced!!! Time for baby.

With each pressure wave, I began pushing. At some point, the Dr. JJ said I could start pushing. I told him I already was. There were some chuckles. At around this time Joanne and then the midwife finally showed.

As each pressure wave intensified, I had a harder time relinquishing control and relaxing. John kept telling me my hypnobabies cues release, peace, & relax but for the most part it was impossible. A few times I was able to relax comfortably into the wave. I had asked John earlier to switch the track for my hypnobabies but he hadn't been able to figure it out so I had the wrong track playing throughout.

I could feel Kaleesi's head low just before crowning. I knew she was close.

Still no signs of baby coming. I went for another NST this morning. The same nurse as last time hooked me up, Margaret. It was a little discouraging but I treated her with respect. As much as I could muster anyway, luckily she got called away and another nurse came to unhook me, n entire 40 min later. Twice as long as needed.

Tomorrow I've got an ultrasound booked. It'll be interesting to see what my baby girl looks like now. I'm gonna call the midwife to make an appointment to get my membranes stripped. Hopefully that'll get things going. I'm not really sure I want to do it, but this baby has to come some time.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Natural Inducers. Do They Really Work?

I was 40 weeks pregnant on march 13, 2013. Since then, I've been trying to think of and use a few natural inducers.

1) Sex
Not the act itself but the results thereof are said to get things going. The female orgasm is supposed to help with and mimic birthing waves (labor). Semen is said to ripen the cervix and increase effacement. So far this method is not working.

2) Castor Oil
I took a teaspoon about an hour ago. Castor oil is a laxative when taken internally. The cramping it gives helps some women begin their birthing time. Sometimes within hours of taking it. I believe the usual dosage is 1-2 tbsp but I had fairly severe diarrhea a couple of weeks ago and was in an incredible amount of pain, so I lessened it. I may try more in the morning.

3) Exercise
Walking helps bring the baby down, engage it, open the pelvis, along with a few other benefits. I've also been doing some belly dancing to encourage proper positioning and strengthen my birthing muscles.

4) Calcium Supplements
With my first pregnancy I took a handful of calcium supplements, went for a walk, and my birthing time began the following morning. I tried the supplements a couple of days ago and it didn't do anything.

5) Red Raspberry Leaf Tea
Drinking this tea is also supposed to help prepare your birthing muscles, effacement, and ripen the cervix. I've been drinking this for about a month now and have not noticed a difference. Albeit, I don't drink it every day and sometimes don't get the two cup dosage in.

6) Nipple Stimulation
Nipple stimulation releases oxytocin which helps the birthing process. This is quite simple for me as I'm still nursing my toddler. This also has not worked.

These are the ones I've tried so far. I will be trying a few more (evening primrose oil, acupressure, etc) in the coming days so stay tuned possibly. Maybe I'll have my sweet baby.

Annoyed as well!

41 Weeks, 4 Days

For a few months now I've been having pregnancy insomnia. I fall asleep fairly easy but wake up after a few hours awake as if it was morning. And hungry. Oh unbearably hungry sometimes.

These last few nights have been no exception. I've slept a combined total of 12 hours. That's an average of 4/night.

Yesterday morning I had an NST (stress test) scheduled for my baby girl. Then a couple of hours later an ultrasound. I went to the NST appointment, but decided to skip the ultrasound because I thought it was more important for me to get rest than for a test I find unnecessary.

When I told the nurse, Margaret, administering the NST that I was going to skip the ultrasound, she mentioned it to my midwife, Lisa, during a routine call to let her know my plans. She came back and demanded my cell number to give to Lisa. I told Margaret that I would give Lisa a call and the nurse got upset with me and wouldn't leave until I gave her my number. I would also like to point out that Lisa already had my cell number due to a text I had sent her earlier in the week.

When I called Lisa after the NST, she explained to me why she wanted me to go to the ultrasound and the risks involved if not everything was perfect. I stopped listening about sixty seconds in. Just before she finally conceded she asked how my DH felt about me not going. I told her he'd rather I get the rest I needed than go to an ultrasound.

Over the last couple of visits with Lisa, I have felt that she has tried scaring me that if I don't go along with her choices for my baby's birth, my baby will die. When I mention I don't want any form of medical interventions, she still tried getting me to agree to pitocin to get the placenta out after baby's birth. She also strongly encouraged me to come in for a stripping of the membranes, which has not been proven to do anything other than possible make the pregnant woman uncomfortable and possibly bleed. I feel bullied and disrespected for making my own informed choices.

As I'm not yet at 42 weeks, I'm not overly concerned about the health of my baby. She's kicking and reacting properly to dietary changes eg. sweets. She massages the insides as she moves, sometimes pushing a foot up as high as she can and other times squiggling on my bladder so I have to run to the bathroom. I have come to realize that I'm a long incubator.

Started wondering if my baby wants to meet me. Does she know I get frustrated easy? Is she afraid there is not enough love for her? Does she know what life entails? Why isn't she coming?

Are these some of the reasons Asher was 19 days over due? Do my unborn children have a sixth sense?

Crazy questions, I know, but viable in some way. Right? I know, babies technically aren't over due until past 42 weeks, but that doesn't stop the midwife from trying to psych me out.

I wanted a midwife because I thought they took a more relaxed natural approach to child birth. Now, with what I've learned, I just want to have my baby at home. I don't want to go to my appts tomorrow. I don't think they're necessary.

Babies come on their due dates, not when doctors or midwives decide. A little mantra from my hypnobabies course. Pregnancy is natural, normal, healthy, and safe for me and my baby.

Of course, my baby girl wants to meet me. She's just loving the comfort of my womb. It's warm in there. It was an emotionally hard decision to wait with my son as well. And it will be now too.

I will have a happy, easy, comfortable childbirth.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

39 Weeks, Day 4

So much to do, so little time! He's been coughing a lot. Over the last 4 mornings he threw up twice.
He's sleeping and nursing a lot. So glad I still have such a great feel better tool.
I've also been giving him lemon and honey water to help with phlegm and coughing. No kidding. My husband changed him out of his diaper and commented that it felt pretty dry, so when I went to go pull out the liner (we use cloth diapers by AMP) I discovered it was in fact dry.

I really can't believe this potty training thing was so easy.

One thing he's not doing yet is pulling down/up his gitches. I've tried teaching him but he'd rather walk around with them around his ankles than bother bending over to pull them up. He's never been into undressing himself & isn't as helpful with dressing as I'd like him to be.

Potty Training

I've read up a lot on potty training. When I read the 3-day method I was excited to get started. Only 3 days? That's awesome!! But first I had to figure out if my son was ready. He seemed to have some of the signs down. http://www.babycenter.ca/toddler/pottytraining/whenchildready/ He couldn't yet pull his own pants down, but I was ok with that.

My in-laws got us a potty over a year ago (http://www.fisher-price.com/en_CA/brands/babygear/products/58894) and Asher had used it a few times then.

From previously trying to train him, I realized he didn't understand when he was peeing or going to pee so that was my first plan. He didn't seem to get it by just leaving him naked, so I put undies on him so that the wet feeling would last longer. It worked!

So, I started doing the 3-day method. Sit him down on the potty, give a treat. If he pees give him another, if he poos give him 2. Well, he did learn. He learned that if he said poopies he would get a chip (chocolate chip). Let's just say day one was a bust. He did manage to go in the potty a couple of times, but it didn't really seem to register.

There were a couple of days we had to scoop poop off the floor & one time *gross part* my dog ate it. Makes me gag just thinking about it, but for the most part it was easier and nicer than trying to wipe up smooshed up poop from his diaper.

Day 1 was October 23, 2012 and I can officially say that today Nov. 3, 2012, my son is potty trained!!!

Without any notice or anything he sat down on his potty and went to the bathroom. He didn't take his undies off (that's next on my list) but he did pee on his potty. And that's all that counts. I'm just happy the only time we have to deal with diapers for now is night time & nap time. And possibly long car trips.

I have to admit it was a lot easier than I thought. As a precaution I think I'll pick up some piddle pads from the dollar store. You never know when an accident will happen in the car.
So far fairly uneventful. Which some may say is lucky, but as this is #2, I was hoping I'd feel movement much earlier than with my first. Who knows, maybe what I thought was gas (lmao) was baby.

I am what some would call a "hippie" mom. I'm still nursing my first and hope to continue for awhile. I'm really looking forward to seeing sibling bonding during tandem nursing. I know it won't be an easy task but I think I'm up for it.

Here's a picture of the tank top I stamped myself to announce my pregnancy first to my husband than to family members and eventually posted of facebook.

My sister in law saw the top and was so excited that my son was wearing a "Big Brother" top (as in the tv show) she wanted a photo.

She must've missed the "...in training" on the front and she hadn't seen was the back of the top which had "Only Child Expires March 2013".

Once she finally understood we all had a good laugh. But she also wasn't the first to not really get it right away.

My mother. Oh, my mom. There is no way I can explain her to you. I don't want this post to go on forever. hehe! I sent her a picture (see bottom left).
My son still doesn't understand. But he's only almost 23 mths old. I think once this little one is ready to start playing, he'll be super excited. He does not really play well on his own. He's always looking for someone to "walk" with him.
I can't wait to meet my new baby!!

He is now 20 months old and the sweetest little guy you could imagine. He's woken up sad or still tired, I hate those. He's woken up talking, love love love those. He's woken up wanting to go outside or to grandma's.
Today was the first time I woke up with kisses. On the lips. Kiss, kiss, kiss, after kiss. The most wonderful way to wake up. I love this pure & simple way he expresses his love. He doesn't use tongue, just gently touches his lips to mine.
Never did I imagine such unconditional love from another human being. I can't wait to see what tomorrow morning will bring.
At first it was my way if getting more sleep when my infant son would wake up at night. Now, after 19 months, I've come to understand how a shared bed has many more benefits.

Tonight, after having some "malk" (my sons pronunciation), he fell asleep. A few moments went by and he chuckled a little, turned, and talked in his sleep. If he'd been in his crib and room, I would've missed it.
It's such a wonderful blessing to be able to share all of his sweet moments.

I can't believe how the time has flown. And how little sleep I've actually had. I'm a proud mom who can say my son can read. Only about 8-10 words, but he can still read. Some days I can even get him to do pee pee on his potty, but usually he sits, goes "ssssss" gets off, then pees. It's quite funny, I think. Even though I have to clean it up.
He's also incredibly talkative. He can carry on five minute conversations. Of course, sometimes we can only understand three words. Such a comedian!!
Asher has 10 teeth. Four front top & bottom, & his first set of molars.

This photo on the right, I took after I finished feeding him. I was out of bibs, so I took an apron and put it on him. I made it when I was in high school. I'd asked my mom to bring me white material and this is what she brought.

I'm happy to report that breastfeeding is still going strong. He loves mamas milk. I still love giving it to him. Well, most of the time. He's a frequent nurser, so it means I can't do a lot of things for long periods. When I'm cleaning, I've gotta take a break quite often to hold and/or nurse him.
Nursing at this age has many benefits still. On top of increased reduction in allergies, it aids in digestion, quenches thirst & hunger, & gives him cuddly time with mom that he needs among other things. Continuing breastfeeding into toddler years has added benefits including "nutrition, comfort,
security, for a way to calm down and for reassurance." http://www.llli.org/faq/advantagetoddler.html
Your nursed toddler will have fewer dentist visits than a breastfed one. He will be more independent. He will be more attached to his mom. He will be more behaved as nursing is an excellent disciplining tool. He will have less problems with his tummy and bowel movements. He will have increased immunity. I could go on for days.
Never in my life did I ever think I would have children. Never did I think about breastfeeding. Then when I did, I only thought it would last 6 months. Six months?!?! Seriously, at 18 months I'm still not ready to let go of the bonding I get from my little guy. If I didn't nurse, I wouldn't feel needed. I hope he goes until I'm ready to quit, which as it stands, won't be for a couple more years.
Hooray!!
This weekend, I finally agreed with my husband to get a laptop. Well, technically, I've wanted to get one for quite awhile now. I just knew we couldn't afford such a luxury. Luckily for income tax season, we were able to spring for one. $498 later, here I am.
I'm not ungrateful, but I am still getting used to this keyboard. The shift key on the left & the return key on the right are so far away that I keep hitting a different key.I know I will be used to this in just a little while. Can't wait. LOL!!
What's that?

My baby is almost 17 months old. Throughout the course of these 17 months, I think I've only gotten about half the sleep I need. I'm up to about a pot of coffee a day or I can easily gulp two large McD's coffee's in a couple of hours.
Not great for the breast milk, but I don't notice that Asher is affected by it. He is a breast boy, but aren't all?
At the end of the day, even with all the sleep lost, still breastfeeding makes me super happy. It's a time that I get to cuddle with my little guy. I can stroke his cheek, brush my fingers through his hair, tell him stories, even make him laugh. It's so beautiful. I will never regret this time.
In the last few weeks, he's begun kissing. It's the cutest thing ever. I've caught him kissing the floor, eww; the dogs, even ewwer; and even himself on the leg or arm. But my favorite kisses are the ones he gives me during nursing. He releases his latch, moves away from my nipple and gently kisses my breast before re-latching. It makes me all warm and cuddly inside just thinking about it.
Sometimes, instead of kissing, he'll blow raspberries on me. As long as I keep laughing, he'll keep doing it.
Thinking about the day that he will no longer be breastfeeding brings tears to my eyes. But alas, I realize that it must one day come to an end. In a few years...

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MyBabyMyWay/~3/ZxMfPfIIeJA/sleep-whats-that.html" title="Sleep?!?! Apparently not...

A little late, but better than not at all? My birthday was a week ago. Not a big one like 30 or 35, but it was my birthday none the less. I understand forgetting, life does get busy, but when you have multiple friends who have birthdays near one another, you expect at the very least a facebook wall post.

Well, apparently, not for this gal. I'm not sure what it means. Do these "friends" not care? Do they even consider me a friend? Maybe, but not a good enough one to throw a line to.

I know what my husband would say, "Stop feeling sorry for yourself!" But, it's hard when you try to remember things that are important to others, and they don't return the feeling.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/MyBabyMyWay/~3/h4_O6Lfj3ug/happy-birthday-to-me-apparently-not.html" title="Happy Birthday to Me?! You said "I do",
You said "Good-bye".
One family rejoiced,
Congratulations to you,
Condolences to you!
my thoughts were with her as I stood by my sisters side on her wedding day!
I know that Jesus was not born in December, yet the world celebrates his birth on a day that was originally in honor of the "Sun God". Now, I am not going to judge anyone for what they choose to do this Holiday, but as for me, I still teach my kids the story of Jesus Christ and the details of his birth as the Bible states. I do this at the Christmas season, and all year long. I know very well that Jesus was NOT born on this day, but there is no wrong in teaching anything biblical to your children on any given day of the year. I am not sure if you got my point about the tree...is it truly a biblical tradition if non Christians observe it? Does it have anything to do with the birth of Christ if it was originally intended to worship Pagan gods? Did you know that they chose the evergreen because it was 'magical" in the fact that it always remained green, even in winter. They hung gold and silver ornaments off of it to represent the sun, moon, and stars (Winter solstice). The red was symbolic of the blood from the animal sacrifices offered to it. Gifts were put underneath it as an offering to their tree idol. Just something to think about. I choose not to put a tree up, because I feel that it has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. Every one has their own opinions, and I won't judge them for it. I have heard every excuse in the book why it represents the birth of Christ somehow, but the fact remains, Wiccans have been setting up tress like this for centuries before Jesus was born. It really has nothing to do with Jesus, but if you choose to set one up, that is your choice. It is evil only if you esteem it so.

It is a Roman Catholic tradition, and as we all know (Or some of us, I hope), that when the Romans "adopted" Christianity, they were Pagan before hand, worshiping many gods. They wanted to make peace with the Christians, and so they mingled their beliefs and that is how we ended up with Christmas and Easter. December 20-25 was the worship of the "Sun God" (they would worship in order to plead with the sun to give them more daylight and warmth--Winter solstice) And when Christianity was introduced, they changed it to the worship of the "Son of God". They kept the traditions, however, and we still carry them today. I won't argue if someone wants to worship Jesus at this time of year, in fact I think it is wonderful to do so. I will happily say "Merry Christmas" to friends and family as the world views this as a time of celebrating the birth of Christ. I have no beef with that. I just feel that most people have no idea where their traditions actually stem from, and they are quick to criticize if you don't participate in them the same way.
It is sometimes pronounced /ˈɛksməs/, but it, and variants such as "Xtemass", originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for "Mass",[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός, translated as "Christ".[2]

There is a common misconception that the word Xmas is a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[3] by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas".

I love to dress up. I love to make my own costumes. This year I'm going as a wolfe in support of Team Jacob!! I'll post pics! I made everything out of a fur coat I found at the MCC. $13?! Awesome deal.
I've finished cleaning out my pumpkins and printing the designs to carve in them. I'm so excited.
For A's Spooky Halloween shoot I've got all kinds of awesome things planned. I got him a spider costume at the local MCC and a few cool props. Monday can't come soon enough.
