I have never been and probably never will be a morning person. Instead, I’m that person who sets their alarm to buzz about 30 minutes before I have to wake up just so I can hit the snooze button several times – it makes me feel like I’m pulling one over on the Sandman even though I’m really just driving Brian ever so slowly to insanity each morning.

With the school year coming to a close – just 6 more days – we’ve decided to add in one last potluck to celebrate our staff. Only this wasn’t a typical potluck, it was a breakfast, which meant two things: first, I definitely needed a game plan, and second, that whole snooze button thing wasn’t going to be happening if I made a hot dish. So immediately the notion of Orange-Cardamom Sticky Rolls was tossed out the window.

I have a bit of a hoarding issue when it comes to recipes. I have more cookbooks and recipe binders than I have space. And don’t even get me started on the number of recipes I have bookmarked online. One day I’ll get to the whole organizing/purging thing, but for now there are more important things to do like watching Revenge on Hulu and baking Cashew Cookies with Brown Butter Frosting. Seriously though – have you watched Revenge? I’m kind of obsessed – with the show and these cookies.

Cashew Cookies with Brown Butter Frosting were picked up on my radar a few weeks back and of course, they were immediately bookmarked. I’ve always been a big fan of cashews and coupling the salty, crunchy texture of the nuts with soft sour cream cookies and brown butter frosting sounded all kinds of amazing. And indeed they are.

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I shared these Whoppers Brownies with you? I had made them in honor of my dad’s birthday, but since I didn’t make it to town on his special day, I just had to bake them again. Only this time he got the entire batch to himself along with a huge banana bundt cake.

My dad is pretty much a chocolate fanatic – the darker and richer the better. He loves bananas too. So it only seemed natural to finish his belated banana birthday cake with a satiny chocolate ganache.

I think it’s pretty well documented by now that Brian and I match each other neurosis for neurosis, and it’s an indication that we’re made for each other. Take, for example, our cleaning habits. I am a girl that can make one heck of a mess in a kitchen. You don’t create Take 5 cupcakes or pumpkin cinnamon rolls without spilling a little flour, know what I mean?

But a lot of mess drives both Brian and I batty. We have a schedule down, and we are borderline OCD in our need to keep the refrigerator and pantry neat and orderly. We each have our tasks when it comes time to clean and reorganize every couple of weeks, but it never happens without a little bit of grumbling on my guy’s part.

I may not be a mom, but one thing I know for sure – motherhood pretty much comes with a requirement for installments of caffiene, often and in great quantities. So I decided our last Mother’s Day giveaway should give you caffiene at the touch of a button, and also offer great quality.

Over the past year, you’ve read about my head-over-heels relationship with my Keurig. I know how hard it is for me to stumble bleary-eyed to the Keurig and wait a whole 60 seconds for my coffee. I can’t imagine doing it with an old-style coffee pot.

While I was in St. Lucia, the lovely Cindy of Once Upon A Loaf guest posted here on MBA with a fun, tipsy recipe for Bourbon Banana Bread. From the moment I read the post, I knew a boozy banana bread would soon be in my baking future.

As soon as we were through customs in St. Lucia, we were greeted by an ice cold glass of Rum Punch. And within a few minutes, we learned that rum was definitely the drink of choice on the island. Even though I’m not one to indulge in cocktails on a regular basis, I happily accepted the fruity concoction and sipped away – ya know how it goes… when in Rome!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so I thought I’d create and share a delicious sweet treat that is worthy of any special brunch. What mom in your life could resist tender Orange Sticky Rolls, spiced with cardamom and slathered with a sweet orange cream cheese glaze?

If you’ve read MBA for any length of time, you are well aware that I’ve openly expressed my fear of yeast. Okay, maybe it’s not a full fledged fear, but it’s definitely the source of some minor kitchen anxiety. Whenever I bake with yeast, I’m always second guessing myself. Is my liquid
the right temp? Did I use the right yeast? Has the dough actually doubled in size? You get the picture. I hope I’m not the only one!

Brownies. As you may have noticed, I’ve developed a serious thing for them. Although I may not be the most enthusiastic chocolate consumer around, brownies have stolen my heart and become my newest baking addiction. There’s just something about decadent brownies stuffed with bits of candy bars that makes me a little weak in the knees.

Brian’s recently developed a little addiction of his own in the form of Twix candy bars. With the golden wrapped bars of caramel goodness filling our candy dish, it was only a matter time before they made their way into the center of thick, rich brownie batter.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you might already know that Brian and I recently traveled to St. Lucia for an amazing week of Caribbean bliss. Being a teacher, I’m lucky enough to get about 10 days off every year for Spring break. And this year, we decided to escape the damp, chilly Ohio weather and travel to the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia.

After I posted a few photos on Instagram and Facebook, I received emails from some of my lovely MBA readers asking for more details of our vacation. I decided as the emails flooded in that you should all know the beauty that is St. Lucia so you can consider it in your own vacation plans.

One thing about teachers – we love a good potluck! As you might have guessed, I’m typically designated with dessert, whether I like it or not. Now, you know I love cupcakes more than probably just about anyone, but sometimes I crave something a little lighter, fresher and fruitier.

Last year, when our spring potluck happened to fall during the first week of May, we, of course, centered our potluck theme around Cinco de Mayo. Ever the procrastinator, by the time I got around to signing up, all the yummy Mexican-themed savory dishes like salsa, guacamole, chicken enchiladas and tortilla soup had been spoken for. Dessert, it seems, is my destiny, no matter what. I figured I’d whip up some Mexican Chocolate Cupcakes and call it done.
