Guilty Gear (ギルティギア Giruti Gia^?), subtitled The Missing Link in Japan, is the first game of the Guilty Gear series developed by Arc System Works. It was first released on the PlayStation in 1998 and later on the PlayStation Network in 2007.
Despite being the first release of the Guilty Gear franchise, the game itself reveals little of its past storyline; it is not until later releases of the video games, drama CDs, and novels of the franchise that its history is thoroughly explained.

Gameplay

Guilty Gear is set in 2D, similar to Street Fighter and The King of Fighters, but is fast-paced and focuses more on the use of combo techniques. The game features 10 characters and three hidden characters. It uses a six-button layout: Punch, Kick, Slash, H-Slash, Dust and Respect. Combat is one-on-one set in best-two-out-of-three rounds.
It uses a "tension" gauge, akin to Street Fighter Alpha's Super Combo techniques, in which characters can input certain commands and activate special-moves called Chaos Attacks. It also features an air-combo system, comparable to Marvel vs. Capcom's "Aerial Rave", allowing combos to be performed on airborne opponents.
Guilty Gear features instant kill techniques called Destroy Attacks, that can be activated after a Murder Outbreak attack successfully lands on an opponent, effectively ending the match.
The game also has a feature called Chaos Mode that is activated when a character's health is at the half-way point (yellow bar). A red aura will surround the character and he/she is able to perform unlimited Chaos Attacks.

Story

Guilty Gear follows the story of ten combatants entering "The Second Sacred Order Tournament" for reasons of their own. Set in a bleak future in which its present time has just recovered from a 100-year-war against man-made bio-organic weapons called "Gears". A Gear named Testament began a plan to resurrect Justice and wipe out the human race.
Fearing this, the Union of Nations began a fighting tournament in order to find fighters who would be able to defeat Testament and the coming revival of Justice, giving the winner the prize of being able to acquire anything they desire.
As the combatants fight through the stages of the tournament they begin to find out the true meaning of the tournament. After defeating Testament in the second to last stage of the tournament, the character aids Justice's revival by being the sacrifice. After defeating the threat of Justice, order is restored with an uneasy peace.

The Miku-Fes 2011 Committee is joining with ANIME EXPO 2011 to bring a Hatsune Miku concert to Los Angeles, at the ANIME EXPO 2011 (Los Angeles Convention Center from the 1st July to the 4th July). She will be preforming with sponsorship from Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. in the NOKIA Theatre on the 2nd July 2011.

The concert is based on the event that took place in Tokyo on the 9th March 2010 named "Miku's Day Thanksgiving", but will feature a few improvements over the original event. The 3D imaging will be created by SEGA and supervised by Crypton Future Media, the creators of Hatsune Miku.

There were two performances - an afternoon performance and an evening performance, and a total of 5000 fans came to see Miku live, along with another 4000 fans who watched via online streaming. Tommy heavenly⁶ is an alter-ego pseudonym created by Tomoko Kawase. Under the name she has released ten singles, three albums, and one compilation album. The persona features a more punk sound than Kawase's previous works

After a performance as Tommy february6 in 2003, Kawase took off her glasses and donned a much more alternative look to create Tommy heavenly⁶, a brand new character with a modern rock sound that takes influences from punk acts. Kawase would later explain that Tommy heavenly⁶ was born from a dream that Tommy february⁶ had, in which she embraces all the elements of her personality she had previously been repressing.

In 2006 and 2007 Tommy heavenly⁶ had a very busy period, releasing five new singles which led to her sophomore album Heavy Starry Heavenly. She finished this productive phase with the Heavy Starry Tour, four live performances as Tommy heavenly⁶ during March 2007. She incorporated most of her songs into this live format, which lasted for an hour and a half, complete with her now regular backing band, and even her band mates from The Brilliant Green made guest appearances for some songs.Kawase claims that the invention of Tommy heavenly⁶ occurred due of her disappointment in Tommy february⁶'s character, but far from being a replacement, Kawase chose to keep the two characters' careers separate. During 2003 and 2004, Tommy heavenly⁶ released only two singles ("Wait Till I Can Dream" and Hey My Friend) whilst Tommy february⁶ went on to release her second full album. It would be in August 2005 (nearly two years after her first single) that Tommy Heavenly⁶ would finally release her third single Ready?, which was shortly followed by her own long awaited eponymous debut album.

On February 25, 2009, Kawase released two best-of albums under both the Tommy aliases, Strawberry Cream Soda Pop Daydream (as february⁶) and Gothic Melting Ice Cream's Darkness Nightmare (as heavenly⁶). Both albums collected the Tommy singles and certain album tracks, as well as having a new track each.

In April 2009, Tommy heavenly⁶ released a new concept album, titled I Kill My Heart, which was composed mostly by Shunsaku Okuda. Two of the promotional songs for her third album was accompanied by music videos that had two versions each—one as Tommy Heavenly⁶and one as Tommy February⁶.

In May 2010, the song " I'M YOUR DEVIL " was used in a CM for MODE, in which there are two versions of the CM was released. The song was released as a digital download on October 7, 2010. A psychical CD version is expected for a 2011 release date, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of Tommy february⁶.

Ezio was raised as a young Florentine nobleman, living during the 15th and 16th Century. Unlike his ancestor Altaïr, he was brought up without knowing of the Assassins' existence, or of his heritage. A seducer of women and a playful man, Ezio possessed acrobatic skills far beyond those of his peers, barring his brother. He came from an affluent background and had many friends until the deaths of his father and brothers drove him out of Florence. Forced to protect his mother and sister, Ezio became an Assassin, exacting revenge on the conspirators who had betrayed his family and plotted to seize both Florence and Venice.^[1]

Initially, Ezio allowed his emotions to get the best of him, going so far as to disrespect the corpse of Vieri de' Pazzi just after his death. However, Ezio did manage to gain control of his anger, and by the time he had become a Master Assassin, could control it almost completely.^[1] That said, Ezio was still prone to losing control of his emotions at the right trigger; in 1506 he brutally beat Duccio de Luca after he provoked Ezio by insulting his sister, Claudia, for her position as the Madame of the Rosa in Fiore.^[10] By the time he confronted Rodrigo Borgia, he had become more dedicated to his role as an Assassin, ceasing to use revenge as a motivation. He also spared the lives of targets he thought there was no need to kill, such as Micheletto Corella.

Soul Eater (ソウル・イーター, Sōru Ītā) or just 'Soul' to his friends, is Maka Albarn's Demon Scythe (魔鎌 Magama in Japanese) partner. He is the main male protagonist and Weapon of the series. Currently he is a Death Scythe and a member of Spartoi. His real name is actually Soul Evans (ソウル・エヴァンス Sōru Evansu in Japanese) but upon entering Shibusen, he changed it to Soul Eater through Shibusen's liberal naming principles.

Personality

At the start of the series, Soul's personality is laid-back and nonchalant, as he tries to mold himself to his expectations of how someone 'cool' would act. He is almost the complete opposite of Maka, being calm, reserved and aloof. He often expresses how he feels about some situations by either claiming that something is 'cool' or 'not cool.' Being a supposedly cool guy, he prefers to use the direct approach, which most of the time fails. He has a unique love for eating souls that seems to not be shared by many of the other Weapons, drooling quite frequently when his next meal is nearby. He also seems to be a glutton towards food in general. He can sometimes become too driven by the thought of eating souls, which leads him to bicker with Maka or become impatient with her; but despite their squabbles, they are always able to maintain a solid friend-partner relationship. He is also friends with Black Star because of their similar personalities, but at the same time, they cannot match their Wavelengths. He is slightly immature--being headstrong, stubborn, apathetic to most things, and argumentative. He also has a strong weakness towards women, as he bursts into a nosebleed without fail every time he sees Blair naked. He was also a slacker that likes to find an easier way out of situations, shown when he attempts to cheat in a DWMA exam.

Appearance

Soul has white hair swept to one side, and red eyes. He is known for his heavily exaggerated facial expressions and pointed teeth. He naturally has a lazy, droopy, and somewhat uninterested expression on his face. In his first appearance, he wears a yellow and black jacket with buttons going down the front. Around his head is a prominent sweatband that has a sticker with his name on and a round logo featuring a red-lipped mouth bearing pointed fangs surrounded with the letters 'E-A-T.' He wears a pair of maroon pants, and yellow and black sneakers with a pattern on the soles resembling his teeth. In Episode 14, it is revealed that he wears blue boxers with pictures of bones all over them (a reference to Ohkubo's previous manga, B. Ichi). Although he does not seem to have a uniform for wearing in Shibusen at this time, in Soul Eater Not! he is seen wearing a gakuran. When seen bare-chested or naked, it is shown that he has a large scar going diagonally down his torso from the left shoulder to the right waist. These are from the operation Professor Stein performed after Crona attacked him during their first encounter.

His soul is light blue with the top resembling his hair and is also the Soul Eater series logo. It can be seen on the back his first jacket.

is a female protagonist and playable character from Final Fantasy VIII.She is best known for her trademark "angel wings" printed on the back of her duster sweater and, as such, her "character symbol" is a white feather that signifies the wings. Rinoa has layered black hair that reaches slightly past her shoulders. There are three caramel highlights on either side of her face that run through her hair. Her eyes are a deep dark brown and she has a small nose. She's short and rather slim, yet when compared to some other characters, she appears more average in weight. In battle, Rinoa wields a unique weapon called the Blaster Edge, which consists of a bladed projectile she shoots toward the enemy from a firing mechanism on her left arm. Plot:

Ichigo Kurosaki is a teenager gifted with the ability to see spirits. His life is drastically changed by the sudden appearance of a Soul Reaper —one who governs the flow of souls between the human world and the afterlife—named Rukia Kuchiki, who arrives in search of a Hollow, a dangerous lost soul. When Rukia is severely wounded defending Ichigo from the Hollow, she attempts to transfer half of her reiatsu (霊圧^?, literally, "spiritual pressure") energy to Ichigo so that he can defeat the Hollow. However, Ichigo takes almost all of her energy, transforming into a Soul Reaper and allowing him to defeat the Hollow with ease. With her powers diminished, Rukia is left stranded in the human world until she can recover her strength. In the meantime, Ichigo must take over Rukia's role as a Soul Reaper, battling Hollows and guiding souls to the afterlife realm known as the Soul Society (尸魂界 (ソウル·ソサエティ) Sōru Sosaeti^?).

As time passes and Rukia has yet to return to the Soul Society, her Soul Reaper superiors learn about her whereabouts and actions and sentence her to death for performing the illegal act of transferring her powers. Although he is unable to stop Rukia's departure to the Soul Society, Ichigo resolves to rescue her with the aid of several of his spiritually aware classmates,Orihime Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Uryū Ishida, and the ex-Soul Reapers Yoruichi Shihōin and Kisuke Urahara. Once at the Soul Society, Ichigo and company battle against the elites of the Soul Reaper military and strive to reach Rukia before her execution.

It is revealed that Rukia's execution and Ichigo's rescue attempt both had been manipulated by a high-ranking Soul Reaper,Sōsuke Aizen, who was previously believed to have been murdered, as part of a far-reaching plot to take control of the Soul Society. Aizen betrays his fellow Soul Reapers and allies himself with the strongest of the Hollows, the Espadas. Aizen thus becomes the main antagonist of the series, and the Soul Reapers form an alliance with Ichigo. At this point, Bleachchronicles the war between the Soul Reapers, the Espadas, and Aizen. After each of the involved's eventual defeats, Ichigo undergoes intense training to become strong enough to battle Aizen alone. As Aizen is weakened, a spell that Urahara had previously hidden within him activates and seals him, thus ending the conflict and leaving the Soul Society to imprison him. As a result of using all of his Soul Reaper powers to defeat Aizen, Ichigo loses them and becomes an ordinary human once again.

Seventeen months later, a group of human individuals, called "Xcution", emerges. They possess Hollow-like powers that allow them to draw out the soul that dwells in any substance, and they desire to be rid of them. To achieve this, they approach Ichigo and inform him that they want to restore his lost Soul Reaper powers so that they may transfer their powers onto him.

To be able to use this gold farming technique, you must first have completed all of the DragonSlayer quests provided by Galanoth so that you have access to Galanoth’s Shop. You will need to do so that you will be able to sell the items that are dropped from the Draconians/Wyverns/Red Dragon as soon as possible.

First you must gather a party of at least 2 people so that this isn’t just a waste of your time. Then you join the Vasalkar Lair by saying “/join lair” or “/join lair-<Insert Numbers Here>”. The best way to get people to join with you is to go to the “Let’s Party!” thread found in the AQW General Discussion forum and request immediate help.

Secondly, you create a pattern on which specific enemies or enemy to farm off of. For draconians, I suggest just two different ones so that if you beat them to a pulp very quickly, you’ll have a little time to rest so that this farming can stay a neverending process.

I suggest the Bronze and Venom Draconians inside the cave behind Galanoth, as they are big on your game screen (easy to select), have a good certain width away from each other, and drop the best of items to sell.

For the other monsters, you just repeatedly kill. Though, for the Wyverns, you will want to drag the Wyvern from the bottom of the screen (if you are farming off the ones next to Galanoth) next to the one on the top so that when it spawns it glitches and moves over to the spot it was killed in so that you do not need to walk around the crack.

Then all you must do is repeatedly defeat these two monsters until they drop items. Once an item is dropped, go to Galanoth and open up his shop to sell the items, and then go back to pummeling these beasts for their infinite amount of good-selling items. Here are the monsters, their health amount, and what they drop that are available in the Vasalkar Lair:

[G2]Undead Portal Farming

There are no prerequisites for this farming technique.

Firstly, you must know that this farming technique is much better with a party with less than 6 people. You can even do this completely by yourself. This is because the area is small and the enemies have little health and are sometimes hard to select. You’ll need perfect timing and full cooperation (which means no multitasking) because everything goes by fairly quickly. Then you join the portal by saying “/join portalundead” or “/join portalundead-<Insert Numbers Here>”. Just skip the cutscene because it doesn’t matter at all for this farming technique.

Secondly, you need not get ready to leave this one screen which is great. All you must do is talk to Cleric Dawn and accept her “Fire Gem” quest. What happens with this quest-

-is that you just kill the Skeletal Fire Mages repeatedly to get the Fire Gem.

You turn the Fire Gem into Cleric Dawn and then you receive the Burn It Down staff that sells for a whopping 12,500 Gold (the whole reason to farm here!).

Along the way these mages also drop the Fire Staff very frequently that sells for a little prize of 2,500 Gold.

With these two items you just sell them in the conveniently placed Newbie Shop from Cleric Dawn.

This makes me think… Originally the Burn It Down staff sold for a huge 200,000 Gold (”WHAT?!” you say?) in the first days of its release. And for some reason, a Newbie Shop was given to Cleric Dawn even though there is already one located in the newbie area. This place was definitely meant to be farming station.

Yeah… Just keep doing that. It’s quite easy but kind of unreliable. You may never get the Fire Gem or you may get 40 of them. I suggest this farming technique only if you are feeling preeeetty lucky.

[G3]Dwakel Quest/Drop Item Selling

There are no prerequisites for this farming technique.

Firstly, you must know that this farming technique is much better with a party with as many people as you can get. This is because the enemies are easy to target and you all want to do the same thing and kill the same monster. It’s pretty organized. If you can’t or don’t feel like getting a group, it’s a good idea to go to random Crash Sites where people are already killing Dwakels. Chances are that someone is and that you can cut into a few kills that were just ending to get the quests done more quickly. Then you join the Crash Site by saying “/join dwakel” or “/join dwakel-<Insert Numbers Here>”.

All you’ve got to do when you reach the first scene is to talk to Tarvarya, the woman standing with her protosartorium suit on the top of the screen. Just accept her first three descending quests: Quadrolithium, Dam Balloons, and Bumper Bolts. What happens with these quests is that you kill a couple of the same dwakels and get the rewards for all of these quests afterwards. Here are the quests, how many dwakel you need to kill to complete them, and their rewards (and how they sell for):

Quadrolithium | 8 | 50 Gold, 50 EXP, Oculation Helm [sells for 2,500 Gold]

Dam Balloons | 4 | 100 Gold, 100 EXP, Battery Cell Pack [sells for 2,500 Gold]

Bumper Bolts | 6 | 50 Gold, 150 EXP, Spybot [sells for 2,500 Gold]

So when you are done accepting the quests, go to the next screen and repeatedly attack those two dwakels. You can kill any other dwakel but I suggest this place because it is right next to the screen where you accept the quests. They are easy to kill and have enough spawn pause for you to rest and recover your health. I suggest that you kill 8 then complete the quests instead of accepting each individually. It’s just a waste of time and the whole farming process gets too complex if you do them individually. You’ll also probably end up getting bored and leave or get less money than doing it 8 at a time. Another good thing is that these dwakels also drop a few items. Here are each of them, their health, and what they drop (and how much they sell for):

Dwakel Warrior | 2,000 | Dwakel Warrior Sword [sells for 3,750 Gold]

Dwakel Blaster | 1,000 | Dwakel Bubble Helm [sells for 1,250 Gold]

Flamethrower Dwakel | 1,100 | Nothing dropped.

Remember to keep the dropped items until you finish the quests and sell them only when you sell quest rewards. It’ll just waste time if you stop to go to Battleon or some shop just to sell one item.

Afterwards, complete the quest by going to Tarvarya once again. Then you should go to a shop or some place to sell the items. I suggest copying the /join or /goto code for going to whatever specific room you are farming in or to whomever you are farming with. Then to sell the stuff go to your map and enter BattleOn. Open up the Upgrade Shop and sell the items received from the quests. Then paste your code in the chat box and boom you are back at the farm spot. Just repeat this whole process and you farming gold preeetty quickly.

[G4] Giant Protector Blade Farming

There are no prerequisites for this farming technique.

First, you should know that this does not require a group, and it will only be a hassle to have one when using this technique for one of the ways [because there are two ways of doing it]. This is because for one of the techniques, you are going throughout different and random instances of the “boxes” map, and for the other you are staying static and going to just one of the instances, preferably a private one (an instance that is for your group only or with a number above 1,000). I’ll explain to you why these two ways are equal.

Technique 1 [The Party/Group Version]: You should pick this version if you want to farm a lot for a lot of gold.

To start this off, you will need just one inventory slot open. This is because your objective is to get the Giant Protector Blade to drop so that you can take it and keep it and sell it. You will also need anyone you are farming with in just one party/group. I suggest at least 5 people to help out, or else it’ll just take too long. You will also want to pick a private instance of the “boxes” map for you to farm in. Either a party-only instance or an instance with a number over 1,000 is fine.

Go to your “boxes” map instance and move just one screen to the right. You’ll see two Box Guardians and Grizzle Spit. Grizzle Spit is the one you are looking for!

Whack away on this menace of a sneevil until it dies. >:O Your hopes and dreams will all amount up to the dropping of a Giant Protector Blade. You’ll want this item because it is the objective of this entire technique. It sells for a lot more than you’d think [7,500 GOLD!]. The best thing about this is that the blade should drop around half the time you kill Grizzle Spit, and he has just 5,000 health and little to no power.

Now, just join any “battleon” instance and sell the item. Then go to your party panel and “/goto” one of your party members and you’ll be right back at lil’ Grizzle. Repeat this technique for lots and lots of gooooold!

Technique 2 [The No Party/Group Version]: ‘Should pick this one if you do not yet have a group or if you just want a tad-bit more gold.

To start this off, you will need just one inventory slot open. This is because your objective is to get the Giant Protector Blade to drop so that you can take it and keep it and sell it.

Go to a random “boxes” map instance and move just one screen to the right. You’ll see two Box Guardians and Grizzle Spit. Grizzle Spit is the one you are looking for!

If there are less than 3 people there, it might not be worth staying at. The reason you are going to a random instance is so that you can jump into a fight that is already taking place or if there are lots of people you can kill Grizzle Spit with so that it’s much quicker to get the Giant Protector Blade.

Now, just join any “battleon” instance and sell the item. Then go back and repeat these procedures!

What is propulsion? The word is derived from two Latin words: *pro* meaning before or forwards andpellere meaning to drive. Propulsion means to push forward or drive an object forward. A propulsion system is a machine that producesthrust to push an object forward. On airplanes, thrust is usually generated through some application of Newton's third law of action and reaction. A gas, or working fluid, is accelerated by the engine, and the reaction to this acceleration produces a force on the engine.
A general derivation of the thrust equation shows that the amount of thrust generated depends on the mass flow through the engine and the exit velocity of the gas. Different propulsion systems generate thrust in slightly different ways. We will discuss four principal propulsion systems: the propeller, the turbine (or jet) engine, the ramjet, and the rocket. Why are there different types of engines? If we think about Newton's first law of motion, we realize that an airplane propulsion system must serve two purposes. First, the thrust from the propulsion system must balance the drag of the airplane when the airplane is cruising. And second, the thrust from the propulsion system must exceed the drag of the airplane for the airplane to accelerate. In fact, the greater the difference between the thrust and the drag, called theexcess thrust, the faster the airplane will accelerate. Some aircraft, like airliners and cargo planes, spend most of their life in a cruise condition. For these airplanes, excess thrust is not as important as high engine efficiency and low fuel usage. Since thrust depends on both the amount of gas moved and the velocity, we can generate high thrust by accelerating a large mass of gas by a small amount, or by accelerating a small mass of gas by a large amount. Because of the aerodynamic efficiency of propellers and fans, it is more fuel efficient to accelerate a large mass by a small amount. That is why we find high bypass fans and turboprops on cargo planes and airliners. Some aircraft, like fighter planes or experimental high speed aircraft, require very high excess thrust to accelerate quickly and to overcome the high drag associated with high speeds. For these airplanes, engine efficiency is not as important as very high thrust. Modern military aircraft typically employ afterburners on a low bypass turbofan core. Future hypersonic aircraft will employ some type of ramjet or rocket propulsion. There is a special section of the Beginner's Guide which deals with compressible, or high speed, aerodynamics. This section is intended forundergraduates who are studying shock waves or isentropic flows and contains several calculators and simulators for that flow regime. The site was prepared at NASA Glenn by the Learning Technologies Project (LTP) to provide background informationon basic propulsion for secondary math and science teachers. Is it Possible to Eliminate/Reducing Greenhouse Effect?

This report was just a thing I made up through various research and study about the greenhouse effect through various sites.

The greenhouse effect refers to circumstances where the short wavelengths ofvisible light from the sun pass through a transparent medium and are absorbed, but the longer wavelengths of the infrared re-radiation from the heated objects are unable to pass through that medium. The trapping of the long wavelength radiation leads to more heating and a higher resultant temperature. Besides the heating of an automobile by sunlight through the windshield and the namesake example of heating the greenhouse by sunlight passing through sealed, transparent windows, the greenhouse effect has been widely used to describe the trapping of excess heat by the rising concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide strongly absorbs infrared and does not allow as much of it to escape into space.
A major part of the efficiency of the heating of an actual greenhouse is the trapping of the air so that the energy is not lost by convection. Keeping the hot air from escaping out the top is part of the practical "greenhouse effect", but it is common usage to refer to the infrared trapping as the "greenhouse effect" in atmospheric applications where the air trapping is not applicable.

The increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide, one of the three majoratmospheric contributers to the greenhouse effect has been carefully documented at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. The 1990 rate of increase was about 0.4% per year. The interesting cyclic variations represent the reduction in carbon dioxide by photosynthesis during the growing season in the northern hemisphere.
Current analysis suggests that the combustion of fossil fuels is a major contributer to the increase in the carbon dioxide concentration, such contributions being 2 to 5 times the effect of deforestation (Kraushaar & Ristinen).

Humankind has progressed a lot over the years. However, this progress has come at a cost of the exploitation of nature many a times. Humans are the main reason for the pollution in nature.

Global warming has been a matter of concern for many years, with various man-made machines now contributing to Global Warming.

One of the main causes of Global Warming is the Green house effect. When the emission of infra-red radiation in the atmosphere warms a planet's surface, it is known as the Green House Effect. The Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomena occurring on planet Earth.

There are natural as well as human-made causes of the greenhouse effect. The natural causes of the Green house effect are the emissions of gases like nitrous oxide, carbon-di-oxide, methane, ozone and water vapour.

The life on Earth depends entirely on the Sun. The energy for life is supplied by the Sun. Out of the total sunlight available, more than thirty percent is deflected into outer space. The rest is reflected and converted into slow moving energy called infrared radiation. This radiation is then trapped into the atmosphere by various gases like carbon-di-oxide, methane, ozone and water vapour. Therefore, it's escape is slowed down. Out of these gases, carbon-di-oxide itself is responsible for the Green house effect.

The motor vehicle is an invention that has changed mankind. Our cars help us get to work and home, to school, to appointments, to fun dates and shopping. Our cars take us everywhere we need or want to go. What we rarely think of, though, is the effects of the fumes our cars put out into the environment. We can all help the environment by walking or bicycling instead of driving a car when we can.

Elements that causes greenhouse effect

Nitrous Oxide:

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas or sweet air, is a chemical compound with theformula N₂O. It is an oxide ofnitrogen. At room temperature, it is a colorless non-flammable gas, with a slightly sweet odor and taste. It is used in surgery anddentistry for its anesthetic andanalgesic effects. It is known as "laughing gas" due to theeuphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to itsrecreational use as a dissociative anesthetic. It is also used as anoxidizer in rocketry and in motor racing to increase the power output of engines. At elevated temperatures, nitrous oxide is a powerful oxidizer similar to molecular oxygen.

carbon-di-oxide:

Carbon dioxide (chemical formula CO₂) is a chemical compound composed of twooxygen atoms covalently bondedto a single carbon atom. It is agas at standard temperature and pressure and exists in Earth's atmosphere in this state. CO₂ is a trace gas comprising 0.039% of the atmosphere.

As part of the carbon cycleknown as photosynthesis, plants,algae, and cyanobacteria absorb carbon dioxide, sunlight, andwater to produce carbohydrate energy for themselves andoxygen as a waste product. By contrast, during respiration theyemit carbon dioxide, as do all other living things that depend either directly or indirectly on plants for food. Carbon dioxide is also generated as a by-product ofcombustion; emitted fromvolcanoes, hot springs, andgeysers; and freed fromcarbonate rocks by dissolution.

As of October 2010, carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphereis at a concentration of 388 ppmby volume

Methane:

Methane (pronounced /ˈmɛθeɪn/ or /ˈmiːθeɪn/) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CH₄. It is the simplestalkane, and the principal component of natural gas. Methane's bond angles are 109.5 degrees. Burning methane in the presence of oxygen producescarbon dioxide and water. The relative abundance of methane makes it an attractive fuel. However, because it is a gas atnormal temperature and pressure, methane is difficult to transport from its source. It is generally transported in bulk bypipeline in its natural gas form, orLNG carriers in its liquefied form; few countries transport it by truck.

Methane was discovered and isolated by Alessandro Voltabetween 1776 and 1778 when studying marsh gas from Lake Maggiore.

Methane is a relatively potentgreenhouse gas. Compared withcarbon dioxide, it has a highglobal warming potential of 72 (calculated over a period of 20 years) or 25 (for a time period of 100 years).^[2] It has a net lifetime of about 10 years,^[3] and is primarily removed by reaction with hydroxyl radicals in the atmosphere, producing carbon dioxide and water.

Methane also affects the degradation of the ozone layer.

Agricultural activities account for almost 50 and 60% of the total anthropogenic CH₄ and N₂O emissions, respectively in 2005 (IPCC. 2007. Climate change 2007. Mitigation of climate change, Working Group III contribution to the fourth assessment report of the intergovermental panel on climate change summary for policymakers and technical summary). Thus, we developed an integrated model to estimate global CH₄ and N₂O emissions and reduction potentials related to agricultural production from 2000 to 2030. In this model, the amounts of implemented countermeasures for greenhouse gas mitigation are calculated as an optimal problem to minimize the total reduction costs under several marginal abatement costs. As a result, we determined the most cost-effective countermeasures, regions and emission sources with high reduction potentials in 2030. Global CH₄ and N₂O emission in agricultural activities was 4.0 GtCO₂ eq/year in 2000 and will increase to approximately 40% (up to 5.6 GtCO₂ eq/year) by 2030. Moreover, in 2030, the total maximum reduction potential will be about 1.4 GtCO₂ eq/year which accounts for 35% of the total of CH₄ and N₂O emissions in agriculture in 2000. Particularly, livestock manure management and rice paddy are expected to be emission sources that have high reduction potentials. We identified a “daily spread of manure” as one low-cost countermeasure with high reduction potential based on the analysis of reduction potentials by countermeasures.

Nitrous Oxide emission reduction:
Intro:

More than 60,000 industrial boilers exist in the United States. In contrast to large utility boilers, industrial boilers have received little focus for NOx emission reductions. However, several alternatives to reduce NOx emissions currently are available, and others are under development.

Most NOx emissions are derived from nitrogen in the fuels used or from nitrogen in the combustion air (thermal NOx). For natural gas-fired and No. 2 oil-fired boilers, thermal NOx represents the majority of NOx produced from industrial boilers. Thermal NOx emissions increase with increasing peak flame temperatures and are affected by oxygen availability in the boiler combustion zone.

Idea:
EGR Valve = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve it controls formation of noxious emissions.

EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the enginecylinders. In a gasoline engine, this inert exhaust displaces the amount of combustible matter in the cylinder. In a diesel engine, the exhaust gas replaces some of the excess oxygen in the pre-combustion mixture.

A properly operating EGR can theoretically increase the efficiency of gasoline engines via several mechanisms:

Reduced throttling losses. The addition of inert exhaust gas into the intake system means that for a given power output, the throttle plate must be opened further, resulting in increased inlet manifold pressure and reduced throttling losses.
Reduced heat rejection. Lowered peak combustion temperatures not only reduces NOx formation, it also reduces the loss of thermal energy to combustion chamber surfaces, leaving more available for conversion to mechanical work during the expansion stroke.
Reduced chemical dissociation. The lower peak temperatures result in more of the released energy remaining as sensible energy near TDC, rather than being bound up (early in the expansion stroke) in the dissociation of combustion products. This effect is minor compared to the first two.

It also decreases the efficiency of gasoline engines via at least one more mechanism:

Reduced specific heat ratio. A lean intake charge has a higher specific heat ratio than an EGR mixture. A reduction of specific heat ratio reduces the amount of energy that can be extracted by the piston.

Carbon Dioxide emission reduction:

Intro

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted in a number of ways. It is emitted naturally through the carbon cycle and through human activities like the burning of fossil fuels.

Natural sources of CO2 occur within the carbon cycle where billions of tons of atmospheric CO2 are removed from the atmosphere by oceans and growing plants, also known as ‘sinks,’ and are emitted back into the atmosphere annually through natural processes also known as ‘sources.’ When in balance, the total carbon dioxide emissions and removals from the entire carbon cycle are roughly equal.

Since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700’s, human activities, such as the burning of oil, coal and gas, and deforestation, have increased CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere.

Idea:

Efficiency and Conservation

There are many energy efficiency and conservation practices that reduce the consumption of carbon-based fuels (e.g., natural gas, oil, coal, or gasoline), decreasing carbon dioxide emissions.

Carbon-Free and Reduced-Carbon Energy Sources

Another way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is to use carbon-free or reduced-carbon sources of energy. Carbon-free sources of energy have their own associated impacts, but in general, these technologies generate energy without producing and emitting carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Carbon-free energy sources include solar power, wind power, geothermal energy, low-head hydropower, hydrokinetics (e.g., wave and tidal power), and nuclear power. Alternatively, switching from high-carbon fuels like coal and oil, to reduced-carbon fuels such as natural gas, will also result in reduced carbon dioxide emissions. The extent to which biomass energy is considered to be carbon-free or a reduced-carbon fuel depends on the type of biomass used and the processes by which it is converted to energy (for more discussion on this, see the section on Biomass Energy Operational Impacts to Air Quality).

Carbon Capture and Sequestration

A third option for reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is carbon sequestration. Carbon sequestration involves the capture and storage of carbon dioxide that would otherwise be present in the atmosphere, contributing to the greenhouse effect. As described on the Carbon Sequestration Approaches and Technologies page, carbon dioxide can be removed from the atmosphere and retained (stored) within plants and soil supporting the plants. Alternatively, carbon dioxide can be captured (either before or after fossil fuel is burned) and then be stored (sequestered) within the earth.

Methane emission reduction:
Intro

Methane emissions refer to the portions of methane that are released into the atmosphere. Methane is the principal component of natural gas. It is useful in many ways, but it can also be harmful to the environment. For this reason, methane emissions are a concern to many people.

Methane can be carried to the stratosphere by rising air. Once it is in the atmosphere, methane is generally regarded as a potent greenhouse gas. It has this reputation because methane can trap substantial amounts of heat, which can result in global warming.

There are many natural sources of methane, including the oceans, permafrost, and termites. Even the Earth’s crust contains large amounts. Since methane is naturally occurring, a certain amount of methane emissions are natural and expected. It is believed that the environment has a natural system that can cope reasonably well with these natural releases.

Idea:

Moderating methane

Because around 60 per cent of methane is produced by human-related activities, changing the way we do some of these activities could help to reduce the amount of methane in the atmosphere.

Couth cows and kangaroo burgers

We could all become vegetarians or reduce our meat and dairy intakes. That way, there’d be fewer cattle and sheep needed. But it might be hard to convince Australians to give up their family roast or barbecued steaks. Australia has over 90 million sheep and 29 million cattle.

However, Australian scientists are tackling livestock emissions. In early 2009, the Australian Government committed nearly $27 million to research ways of reducing methane and other greenhouse gases arising from agriculture. The research involves 18 projects, including selectively breeding livestock to produce less methane; reducing methane emissions by eliminating certain livestock gut microbes; and reducing methane emissions by changing the diet of livestock.

Another suggested way of achieving lower methane emissions would be to eat meat from farmed kangaroos. Because kangaroos are not ruminants, they don’t belch out nearly as much methane. So perhaps kangaroo burgers and sausages might help save the planet – but only if you could convince lots of people to change their diet!

Drying out

Draining naturally occurring wetlands is a simple way to decrease methane levels, but this can increase carbon dioxide emissions as well as having unwanted environmental effects when animal and plant habitats are changed.

Finding different ways to grow rice – such as dry rice farming – or developing more productive rice varieties could help reduce methane levels.

One way to prevent methane being made at landfill sites is to cover the site to stop rain penetrating into the ground. Australian scientists are now looking at reducing methane levels at rubbish tips by growing plants and trees on their surface. The idea is for the plants to take up the water that would otherwise seep down and promote the anaerobic decomposition of rubbish, which produces methane. This method – known as phytocapping – has been tested successfully by researchers at the Central Queensland University.

Making use of methane

Because methane can be used as a fuel, there are several possibilities for recycling the gas and using it as a source of energy. Even though this might produce some carbon dioxide, the overall contribution to climate change would be less than if the methane wasn’t used. For years, methane produced by decomposing matter at some rubbish tips or landfill sites has been tapped as a source of the gas.

Yet another way to reduce methane levels is to lower emissions from fossil fuel industries. For instance, methane is collected from some Australian coal mines for energy production. And the CSIRO and the Australian Government Department of Climate Change have been involved in a pilot project to use methane from a Chinese coal mine to help power a gas turbine – in effect, turning a waste gas into a fuel.

Here are some tips to reduce your impact on the greenhouse effect and save wildlife:

Lower your thermostat in the winter and raise it in the summer.

Replace your regular light bulbs with energy-saving florescent light bulbs.

Keep your car tuned-up and observe speed limits. Whenever you can, leave your car at home. Instead, use public transportation, walk, or ride your bike.

Plant a tree. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and also provide protection for wildlife.

If you buy coffee and chocolate, choose organic versions. The coffee and cacao plants in the tropical rain forests of Latin America help sustain migratory birds.

Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Install a programmable thermostat
Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.

Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.

Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner

Move your fridge and freezer
Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own. For example, if you put them in a hot cellar room where the room temperature is 30-35ºC, energy use is almost double and causes an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and 320kg for freezers.

Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly
Even better is to replace them with newer models, which all have automatic defrost cycles and are generally up to two times more energy-efficient than their predecessors.

Don't let heat escape from your house over a long period
When airing your house, open the windows for only a few minutes. If you leave a small opening all day long, the energy needed to keep it warm inside during six cold months (10ºC or less outside temperature) would result in almost 1 ton of CO2 emissions.

Replace your old single-glazed windows with double-glazing
This requires a bit of upfront investment, but will halve the energy lost through windows and pay off in the long term. If you go for the best the market has to offer (wooden-framed double-glazed units with low-emission glass and filled with argon gas), you can even save more than 70% of the energy lost.

Get a home energy audit
Many utilities offer free home energy audits to find where your home is poorly insulated or energy inefficient. You can save up to 30% off your energy bill and 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Energy Star can help you find an energy specialist.

Cover your pots while cooking
Doing so can save a lot of the energy needed for preparing the dish. Even better are pressure cookers and steamers: they can save around 70%!

Use the washing machine or dishwasher only when they are full
If you need to use it when it is half full, then use the half-load or economy setting. There is also no need to set the temperatures high. Nowadays detergents are so efficient that they get your clothes and dishes clean at low temperatures.

Take a shower instead of a bath
A shower takes up to four times less energy than a bath. To maximize the energy saving, avoid power showers and use low-flow showerheads, which are cheap and provide the same comfort.

Use less hot water
It takes a lot of energy to heat water. You can use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of carbon dioxide saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year) instead of hot.

Use a clothesline instead of a dryer whenever possible
You can save 700 pounds of carbon dioxide when you air dry your clothes for 6 months out of the year.

Insulate and weatherize your home
Properly insulating your walls and ceilings can save 25% of your home heating bill and 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Caulking and weather-stripping can save another 1,700 pounds per year. Energy Efficient has more information on how to better insulate your home.

Be sure you’re recycling at home
You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your household generates.

Recycle your organic waste
Around 3% of the greenhouse gas emissions through the methane is released by decomposing bio-degradable waste. By recycling organic waste or composting it if you have a garden, you can help eliminate this problem! Just make sure that you compost it properly, so it decomposes with sufficient oxygen, otherwise your compost will cause methane emissions and smell foul.

Buy intelligently
One bottle of 1.5l requires less energy and produces less waste than three bottles of 0.5l. As well, buy recycled paper products: it takes less 70 to 90% less energy to make recycled paper and it prevents the loss of forests worldwide.

Choose products that come with little packaging and buy refills when you can
You will also cut down on waste production and energy use... another help against global warming.

Reuse your shopping bag
When shopping, it saves energy and waste to use a reusable bag instead of accepting a disposable one in each shop. Waste not only discharges CO2 and methane into the atmosphere, it can also pollute the air, groundwater and soil.

Reduce waste
Most products we buy cause greenhouse gas emissions in one or another way, e.g. during production and distribution. By taking your lunch in a reusable lunch box instead of a disposable one, you save the energy needed to produce new lunch boxes.

Plant a tree
A single tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. Shade provided by trees can also reduce your air conditioning bill by 10 to 15%. The Arbor Day Foundation has information on planting and provides trees you can plant with membership.

Switch to green power
In many areas, you can switch to energy generated by clean, renewable sources such as wind and solar. In some of these, you can even get refunds by government if you choose to switch to a clean energy producer, and you can also earn money by selling the energy you produce and don't use for yourself.

Buy locally grown and produced foods
The average meal in the United States travels 1,200 miles from the farm to your plate. Buying locally will save fuel and keep money in your community.

Buy fresh foods instead of frozen
Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce.

Seek out and support local farmers markets
They reduce the amount of energy required to grow and transport the food to you by one fifth. Seek farmer’s markets in your area, and go for them.

Buy organic foods as much as possible
Organic soils capture and store carbon dioxide at much higher levels than soils from conventional farms. If we grew all of our corn and soybeans organically, we’d remove 580 billion pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere!

Eat less meat
Methane is the second most significant greenhouse gas and cows are one of the greatest methane emitters. Their grassy diet and multiple stomachs cause them to produce methane, which they exhale with every breath.

Reduce the number of miles you drive by walking, biking, carpooling or taking mass transit wherever possible
Avoiding just 10 miles of driving every week would eliminate about 500 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year! Look for transit options in your area.

Start a carpool with your coworkers or classmates

Don't leave an empty roof rack on your car
This can increase fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 10% due to wind resistance and the extra weight - removing it is a better idea.

Keep your car tuned up
Regular maintenance helps improve fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. When just 1% of car owners properly maintain their cars, nearly a billion pounds of carbon dioxide are kept out of the atmosphere.

Drive carefully and do not waste fuel
You can reduce CO2 emissions by readjusting your driving style. Choose proper gears, do not abuse the gas pedal, use the engine brake instead of the pedal brake when possible and turn off your engine when your vehicle is motionless for more than one minute. An inferiority complex, in the fields of psychology andpsychoanalysis, is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extremeschizotypal behavior, or both. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement (or promote discouragement), an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often embedding itself into one's lifestyle, and sometimes resulting in a retreat from difficulties.

Classical Adlerian psychologymakes a distinction between primary and secondary inferiority feelings. A primary inferiority feeling is said to be rooted in the young child's original experience of weakness, helplessness and dependency. It can then be intensified by comparisons to siblings and adults. A secondary inferiority feeling relates to an adult's experience of being unable to reach an unconscious, fictional final goal of subjective security and success to compensate for the inferiority feelings.

TENDS TO BE TIMID ON A CROWD - Those people who feels inferior has the tendency to create a hermit out of themselves, avoiding social gatherings and meetings. They would rather be alone in their own world than having the world know their flaws. They feel that they aren't as smart and as interesting like others. It will really be hard to have this kind of person to speak up, because he feels that he will just make himself a laughingstock out of himself, afraid that he'll say something embarrassing or senseless. These are the ones who avoid debates, forum,etc.
FLATTER ME! - You want to always hear others complimenting how you look, how you did on that article, what you did great or what have you. Because you are so desperate, there are some instances that if nobody praises you, you'll start telling people what you did so you'd get nice compliments. Or you will start asking people, "Do you think I did great?", "Do I look good tonight?" ...so you'd get complimented. (What if the person you asked said otherwise? Well...that wil make your self esteem way way low)
DON'T FLATTER ME! - You don't want to hear any compliment, even you really did well. For you, that's just a way to make you feel a bit better, you feel like the comment isn't really coming from the heart. You refuse to listen to positive comments since you know inside your heart that you are not good enough.
UNHEALTHY COMPETITION - You really don't love competing with others but if you do, you'll find all ways on how you can outdo your competition. Because if you loose, then you'll feel that you aren't that good enough and you will instill in your mind not compete with anyone for you will never win at all. You envy those who are always on top of everything and you feel you will never be like that even in your wildest dreams.

The Liver

The liver is the largest organ in the body. It is found high in the right upper abdomen, behind the ribs. It is a very complex organ and has many functions. They include:

Storing energy in the form of sugar (glucose)
Storing vitamins, iron, and other minerals
Making proteins, including blood clotting factors, to keep the body healthy and help it grow
Processing worn out red blood cells
Making bile which is needed for food digestion
Metabolizing or breaking down many medications and alcohol
Killing germs that enter the body through the intestine

The liver shoulders a heavy workload for the body and almost never complains. It even has a remarkable power to regenerate itself. Still it should not be taken for granted. Certain conditions that develop, such as fatty liver and steatohepatitis, may be signs of liver injury that can lead to permanent liver damage.

What is Fatty Liver?

Fatty liver is just what its name suggests: the build-up of fat in the liver cells. Although this is not a normal condition, fat in the liver usually causes no damage by itself. However, on some occasions it can be a sign that other more harmful conditions are at work. Fatty liver may be associated with or may lead to inflammation of the liver. This can cause scarring and hardening of the liver. When scarring becomes extensive, it is called cirrhosis, and this is a very serious condition. Therefore, it is important that a physician thoroughly examine a patient with fat in the liver.

Cause

It would seem logical that eating fatty foods would cause a fatty liver, but this is not the case. The liver does play an important role in the metabolism or breakdown of fats. Something goes wrong in this process of metabolism, but it is still not known what does cause fat to build-up in the liver. It is known that fat accumulates in the liver with a number of conditions. The most common is obesity. Fatty liver is also associated with diabetes mellitus, high blood triglycerides, and the heavy use of alcohol. It may occur with certain illnesses such as tuberculosis and malnutrition, intestinal bypass surgery for obesity, excess vitamin A in the body, or the use of certain drugs such as valproic acid (trade names: Depakene/Depakote) and corticosteroids (cortisone, prednisone). Sometimes fatty liver occurs as a complication of pregnancy.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

There are usually no symptoms that are noticeable to the patient. In fact, fatty liver is frequently uncovered during a routine physical examination. There may be a rise in certain liver enzymes found in the blood, and sometimes the liver is slightly enlarged. Fatty liver may also be discovered while the physician is evaluating a patient for other illnesses. For example, an ultrasound exam of the abdomen done for other reasons may show fat in the liver. To be certain of a diagnosis of fatty liver, the physician may recommend a liver biopsy. Under local anesthesia, a slender needle is inserted through the right lower chest. A small piece of liver tissue is taken out with the needle and examined under a microscope.

Treatment

In most instances, treatment of fatty liver and steatohepatitis requires control of the underlying conditions. This may include reduction of high blood triglycerides, good control of diabetes, or not drinking alcohol. In some cases, surgical reversal of intestinal bypass for obesity is required.

Since being overweight is by far the most critical factor, weight loss is the key to ridding the liver of fat. This is especially necessary if damage to the liver is occurring, and early signs of scarring are present on biopsy. High blood triglycerides and diabetes are also worse with obesity. So, when steatohepatitis is present with these conditions, people gain even greater benefits from losing weight. Losing weight can be difficult. However, it must be done because the alternative may be eventual cirrhosis and the need for a liver transplant.

Currently, studies are underway on certain drugs such as Actigall. This drug appears to reduce liver damage in cases of steatohepatitis. At this time, however, it is not certain how helpful these drugs will be. To repeat the point, losing weight is by far the most important treatment.

The translators of the Authorized King James Version of the Bible(1611) followed the GreekSeptuagint (monokeros) and the Latin Vulgate (unicornis)^[14] and employed unicorn to translatere'em, providing a recognizable animal that was proverbial for its un-tamable nature. The American Standard Version translates this term "wild ox" in each case.

The classical Jewish understanding of bible did not identify the Re'em animal as the unicorn. Instead, the Tahashanimal (Exodus 25, 26, 35, 36 and 39; Numbers 4; and Ezekiel 16:10) was thought to be akosher unicorn with a coat of many colors that only existed in biblical times.

Qilin:

Though the qilin (Chinese: 麒麟), a creature in Chinese mythology, is sometimes called "the Chinese unicorn", it is a hybrid animal that looks less unicorn than chimera, with the body of a deer, the head of a lion, green scales and a long forwardly-curved horn. TheJapanese version (kirin) more closely resembles the Western unicorn, even though it is based on the Chinese qilin. The Quẻ Ly of Vietnamese myth, similarly sometimes mistranslated "unicorn" is a symbol of wealth and prosperity that made its first appearance during the Duong Dynasty, about 600 CE, to Emperor Duong Cao To, after a military victory which resulted in his conquest of Tây Nguyên.

The salamander is an amphibian of the order Urodela. As with many real creatures, pre-modern authors often ascribed fantastic qualities to it (compare the allegorical descriptions of animals inmedieval bestiaries), and in recent times some have come to identify a legendary salamander as a distinct concept from the real organism. This idea is most highly developed in the occult. Where the two concepts can be distinguished, the legendary salamander is most often depicted much like a typical salamander in shape, with a lizard-like form, but it is usually ascribed an affinity with fire (sometimes specifically elemental fire).

n early heraldry, the salamander was depicted as somewhat like a short-legged dog, surrounded by fire; more recently it is depicted as a lizard or a natural salamander, but still amidst flames. In the arms of Le Clei shown as vomissant des flammes ("vomiting flames") as well. It is oftentinctured vert (green) but can be of any other colour or metal.

The salamander became a symbol of enduring faith which triumphs over the fires of passion. It was the badge of Francis I of France, with the motto, "I nourish [the good] and extinguish [the bad]."It appears in the arms of Le Havre, Fontainebleau and others.

The phoenix (Ancient Greek: Φοῖνιξ, phoínix, Persian: ققنوس, Arabic: العنقاء أو طائر الفينيق,Chinese: 鳳凰 or 不死鳥) is a mythical sacred firebird that can be found in the mythologies of the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Chinese, and (according to Sanchuniathon)Phoenicians.

A phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (literally "sun-city" in Greek). It is said that the bird's cry is that of a beautiful song. The Phoenix's ability to be reborn from its own ashes implies that it is immortal, though in some stories the new Phoenix is merely the offspring of the older one. In very few stories they are able to change into people.

The phoenix or firebird originated in ancient mythology and has gone through a variety of representations in art/literature, ranging from being fully birdlike to having the head of a dog and suckling its young. Typically, it is considered benevolent, but some tales suggest that humans are not always safe around it. Further, many tales share elements with those of the phoenix.

The Greeks subsequently pictured the bird more like a peacock or an eagle and identified it with their own word phoenix (Φοίνιξ), meaning the color purple-red or crimson (cf. Phoenicia) or a palm tree. According to the Greek mythology the phoenix lived in Phoenicia next to a well. At dawn, it bathed in the water of the well, and the Greek sun-god Helios stopped his chariot (the sun) in order to listen to its song. Featured in the painting Heracles Strangles Snakes (House of the Vettii, Pompeii Italy) as Zeus, the king of the gods. Herodotus spoke about the unique capability of the bird to be consumed in the flames and be reborn from the ashes.

According to many, the flamingo of East Africa might have contributed to the myth of phoenix.This bright pink or white bird nests on salt flats that are too hot for its eggs or chicks to survive; it builds a mound several inches tall and large enough to support its egg, which it lays in that marginally cooler location. The convection currents around these mounds resembles theturbulence of a flame. In zoology, flamingos are part of the family Phoenicopteridae, from the generic name Phoenicopterus or "phoenix-winged."

From an Indian perspective, Garuda is the Hindu name for the constellation Aquila and theBrahminy kite is considered to be the contemporary representation of Garuda. Indonesia adopts a more stylistic approach to the Garuda's depiction as its national symbol, where it depicts an eagle (being much larger than a kite).

In Hindu religion, Garuda is a lesser Hindu divinity, usually the mount (vahanam) of the GodVishnu. Garuda is depicted as having the golden body of a strong man with a white face, red wings, and an eagle's beak and with a crown on his head. This ancient deity was said to be massive, large enough to block out the sun.

Garuda is known as the eternal sworn enemy of the Nāga serpent race and known for feeding exclusively on snakes, such behavior may have referred to the actual Short-toed Eagle of India. The image of Garuda is often used as the charm or amulet to protect the bearer from snake attack and its poison, since the king of birds is an implacable enemy and "devourer of serpent". Garudi Vidya is the mantra against snake poison to remove all kinds of evil.

In European bestiaries and legends, a basilisk (English pronunciation: /ˈbæzɪlɪsk/, from theGreek βασιλίσκος basilískos, "little king;" Latin Regulus) is a legendary reptile reputed to be king of serpents and said to have the power to cause death with a single glance. According to the Naturalis Historia of Pliny the Elder, the basilisk of Cyrene is a small snake, "being not more than twelve fingers in length,"^[2] that is so venomous that it leaves a wide trail of deadly venom in its wake, and its gaze is likewise lethal; its weakness is in the odour of the weasel, which, according to Pliny, was thrown into the basilisk's hole, recognizable because all the surrounding shrubs and grass had been scorched by its presence. It is possible that the legend of the basilisk and its association with the weasel in Europe was inspired by accounts of certain species of Asiatic snakes (such as the King Cobra) and their natural predator, the mongoose.

The basilisk is called "king" because it is reputed to have on its head a mitre- or crown-shaped crest. Stories of the basilisk show that it is not completely distinguished from the cockatrice. The basilisk is alleged to be hatched by a cockerel from the egg of a serpent or toad (the reverse of the cockatrice, which was hatched from a cockerel's "egg" incubated by a serpent or toad). In Medieval Europe, the description of the creature began taking on features from cockerels.

There is the same power also in the serpent called the basilisk. It is produced in the province of Cyrene, being not more than twelve fingers in length. It has a white spot on the head, strongly resembling a sort of a diadem. When it hisses, all the other serpents fly from it: and it does not advance its body, like the others, by a succession of folds, but moves along upright and erect upon the middle. It destroys all shrubs, not only by its contact, but those even that it has breathed upon; it burns up all the grass too, and breaks the stones, so tremendous is its noxious influence. It was formerly a general belief that if a man on horseback killed one of these animals with a spear, the poison would run up the weapon and kill, not only the rider, but the horse as well. To this dreadful monster the effluvium of the weasel is fatal, a thing that has been tried with success, for kings have often desired to see its body when killed; so true is it that it has pleased Nature that there should be nothing without its antidote. The animal is thrown into the hole of the basilisk, which is easily known from the soil around it being infected. The weasel destroys the basilisk by its odour, but dies itself in this struggle of nature against its own self.

Some have speculated a rationalized explanation for the basilisk, in particular that reports of cobras may have given birth to the stories of the monster. Cobras can maintain an upright posture, and, as with many snakes in overlapping territories, are often killed by mongooses. The King Cobra or Hamadryad has a crownlike symbol on its head. Several species of spitting cobras can incapacitate from a distance by spitting venom, most often into the prey's eyes, and may well have been confused by similar appearance with the Hamadryad. The Egyptian cobra lives in the desert and was used as a symbol of royalty.

The basilisk appears in the Bible in Isaiah 14:29 in the prophet's exhortation to the Philistines reading, "Do not rejoice, whole country of Philistia, because the rod that beat you has broken, since the serpent's stock can still produce a basilisk, and the offspring of that will be a flying dragon." The King James version of the Bible states "out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent."

In Psalm 91:13: "super aspidem et basiliscum calcabis conculcabis leonem et draconem" in the Latin Vulgate, literally "You will tread on the lion and the dragon,/the asp and the basilisk you will trample under foot," translated in the King James Version as: Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet,"^[10] the basilisk appears in the Latin Vulgate, though not most English translations, which gave rise to its inclusion in the subject in Early Medieval art of Christ treading on the beasts.

There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. The two traditions may have evolved separately, but have influenced each to a certain extent, particularly with the cross-cultural contact of recent centuries. The English word "dragon" derives from Greek δράκων (drákōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake", which probably comes from the verb δρακεῖν(drakeîn) "to see clearly".

Dragons are usually shown in modern times with a body like a huge lizard, or a snake with two pairs of lizard-type legs, and able to emit fire from their mouths. The European dragon has bat-type wings growing from its back. A dragon-like creature with no front legs is known as a wyvern. Following discovery of how pterosaurs walked on the ground, some dragons have been portrayed without front legs and using the wings as front legs pterosaur-fashion when on the ground.

Although dragons occur in many legends around the world, different cultures have varying stories about monsters that have been grouped together under the dragon label. Some dragons are said to breathe fire or to be poisonous, such as in the Old English poem Beowulf.

They are commonly portrayed as serpentine or reptilian, hatching from eggs and possessing typically scaly or feathered bodies. They are sometimes portrayed as having especially large eyes or watching treasure very diligently, a feature that is the origin of the word dragon (Greek drakeîn meaning "to see clearly").^[3] Some myths portray them with a row of dorsal spines. European dragons are more often winged, while Chinese dragons resemble large snakes. Dragons can have a variable number of legs: none, two, four, or more when it comes to early European literature.

Dragons are often held to have major spiritual significance in various religions and cultures around the world. In many Asiancultures dragons were, and in some cultures still are, revered as representative of the primal forces of nature, religion and theuniverse. They are associated with wisdom—often said to be wiser than humans—and longevity. They are commonly said to possess some form ofmagic or other supernatural power, and are often associated with wells, rain, and rivers. In some cultures, they are also said to be capable of human speech. In some traditions dragons are said to have taught humans to talk.

Origin:

The word dragon entered the English language in the early 13th century from Old French dragon, which in turn comes from Latin draconem(nominative draco) meaning "huge serpent, dragon," from the Greek word δρακων, drakon (genitive drakontos) "serpent, giant seafish", which is believed to have come from an earlier stem drak-, a stem of derkesthai, "to see clearly," from Proto-Indo-European derk- "to see" or "the one with the (deadly) glance."

The Greek and Latin term referred to any great serpent, not necessarily mythological, and this usage was also current in English up to the 18th century. Today the Komodo monitor lizard Varanus komodoensis is known in English as the Komodo dragon. The King James Bibleuses the words "serpent", "dragon" and "Devil" in a fairly interchangeable manner.

The association of the serpent with a monstrous opponent overcome by a heroic deity has its roots in the mythology of the Ancient Near East, including Canaanite (Hebrew, Ugaritic), Hittite and Mesopotamian. The Chaoskampf motif entered Greek mythology and ultimatelyChristian mythology, although the serpent motif may already be part of prehistoric Indo-European mythology as well, based on comparative evidence of Indic and Germanic material. It has been speculated that accounts of spitting cobras may be the origin of the myths of fire-breathing dragons.

Modern Conceptions:

In the early 20th century sculpture of the Norwegian artist Gustav Vigeland, inspired by Medieval art, dragons are a frequent theme—as symbols of sin but also as a nature force, fighting against man.
