How to implement?

This is one of the easiest places to place AdSense. Just go to the page elements (layout), click on the "Add a Gadget" link and add an HTML/Javascript widget with your ad code inside it or add directly an AdSense widget.

Between posts

Its big, its exciting and its worth an applause! Blogger finally introduced the most awaited SEO features for Google hosted Blog Spot blogs. Blogger Team is trying every possible effort to get closer to its biggest competitor Word press in terms of development. Its believed that Blog Spot blogs are not well optimized due to limited Search Engine optimization features but with the introduction of Meta Description for individual posts, custom redirection for broken links, no-follow attribute, 404 error pages, custom robots.txt and robot header tags features, blogger surprised almost everyone today. The problem of wrong post description appearing in social networks like Facebook and Google+ will all be solved thanks to Meta Tags for posts and pages. We will look into each feature one by one so that you may understand clearly the importance of these technical SEO terms.

What are the new Search Features?

Six important SEO options have been added to Blogger in draft which are:

Meta Tags for Homepage and Sub-pages

404 Error Page

Custom Redirects for broken links

Custom Robots.txt For Advanced users

Custom robots header tags For Advanced users

Nofollow attribute for post Editor links

Caution: Out of six new features only two which relate to crawling and indexing of search robots are restricted for Advanced users. I would therefore recommend not to play with them because wrong settings can terribly effect search credibility of your blog therefore keep them as default.

To set the new SEO settings do this:

Go To draft.blogger.com

Then Go to Settings > Search preferences

Now here you will see three important sub-sections which we will discuss one by one.

Meta Tags

The word meta here refers to Meta Description. It tells visitors what your blog is all about. In search engine results page it looks like this

Previously we would manually set meta description for blog homepage but now you can set it using this page. So what's new? The new addition is that by enabling this feature, meta description for Posts will activate and you can then configure Description for posts using the blog post editor. To activate this option do this:

Click the Edit link
Choose "Enable Search Description?"
In box define your blog in no more than 150 characters.

Note: You must write the same description here that you have written manually inside your templates.

4. Click Save changes

5. Since the above description wont work correctly in custom templates therefore we need to insert some code inside the template. Please go to Design > Edit HTML and just below <head> paste the following code for meta description:

6. Save your template and all done!

Meta Description For Posts

Now open Blogger post editor and you will see a new option for post description:

Now make it your hobby to write a one line description for every post that you publish. Write no more than 150 characters or 15 keyword phrases. By doing this every new post that you publish will have a separate clean description that will attract more visitors by providing precise description of what you post is all about instead of a chopped random snippet of text chosen by search robot. This will help both robots in better indexing your posts and also Facebook and Google+ to display correct description for your posts.

Errors and re-directions

Most of you know that Google webmasters give you several links which are either broken or no more exits. Broken links refer to Pages that no more exits on your blog because for some reason you may have deleted them. Now if some website is linking one of your posts that you deleted then you wont get the reward of the Page Rank juice from that website to yours instead if people click that link they will land no where in your blog and will see a 404 Page not found error. There was no concept of a 404 error page before instead this page would appear:

But now you can create your own custom 404 error page. Check ours by writing anything illogical at the end of our blog URL in your address bar or simply click here

Therefore in order to redirect deleted post links to new links and create a custom 404 Error page do this:

Click the Edit link next to Custom Page Not Found

Inside the box write a message that you want to display when readers land on a missing page (404 page)

You can write any message inside this box using simple HTML but once you click save changes and see how your error page looks, you will see that it looks dull and grey and appear inside an ugly box. In order to give it a good designed look with custom CSS styles just like ours then kindly wait for my next post.

Broken Link Redirection

Click the edit link next to Custom Redirects
Click the check box to simplify the options
Now you get a From and To input options
Insert the link of your deleted Post inside From box and insert the link of your new post inside To box.
Click Save changes

You can create several redirects by clicking the New redirect button. If you are confused where to redirect a deleted page or post then you can simply redirect all broken links to your Homepage in order to flow all Page Rank juice there.

Crawlers and indexing

Do not worry, its not that advanced and horrifying! :)

This section includes two options which are robots.txt and robot header tags. You may not touch the robots.txt option however you can manage settings for robot header tags severed to search engines. All our long techy SEO tutorials that provided solution for optimizing Blogger pages, posts, homepage, archive and search pages can now be implemented with a simple click of a mouse.

The robots meta tag lets you control how an individual page should be indexed and served to users in search results. In order to keep things simple use the following settings as shown in the screenshot below:

The above recommended settings will tell search engines to index your homepage and all its content, to index your posts and pages but must not index archives and should also not take description suggestions from Open Directory Project (noopd).

Normally, search engines use resources like the Open Directory Project (noopd) and the Yahoo! Directory (noydir) to find titles and descriptions for your content. Generally, you will not want them to do this. The noodp tag prevents them from doing so.

What does unavailable_after Meta tag does?

Though you wont need them but for understanding we would explain it. Most blogs promote seasonal products by writing posts. If you are promoting a new product offer on monthly basis which would expire the next month then you must tell search spiders to stop indexing the old product posts and index the latest one. This will help spiders to give more importance to your latest posts than old repeated posts.

Internal links should never be tagged as nofollow.

Now whenever you need to create a link in post editor you will see two options

Choose to open the link in new tab only if the link is pointing to an external site and choose the nofollow option only for links that point to low quality sites or login pages. How to Add Floating Sharing Bar in Blogger

This is one of the few social sharing widgets that took a lot of my time in designing it.

You have seen the trend of floating sharing count buttons on popular blogs. The traditional icons are now replaced with auto incremented counter buttons that are updated in seconds.

We created different versions of this bar applying both Jquery effects and CSS3 styles but this widget is different because it contains custom twitter, Pinterest and an Email button.

Services like Addthis and Sharethis are both doing a great job but they still need to work on some of their plugin integration conflicts.

Pinterest pin it buttons are causing great trouble and it badly fails in fetching the correct thumbnail image. In most cases it does not even select a image thus making the entire pinning concept tasteless.

We however redesigned the widget provided by shareThis to create a new one by correcting all flaws. This sharing bar would float to the left of your blog posts and would float as the visitor scrolls up or down.

This widget contains counters of important social networking sites that has the potential to bring you traffic by circulating your content to a wider audience.

We have tested the widget on major browsers like IE7+, Firefox, Chrome etc. and found it working just fine with no compatibility issues or design conflicts. Developers and bloggers are requested to link back to this post if in case they wish to share our code with their readers. Lets get to work now!

Which Social Networking Buttons To Use?

Your first priority should always be Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn and Now Pinterest. All these sharing counters play well in circulating your content over a wide range of visitors.

Social Media is a non-stoppable engine, which if driven correctly and carefully can bring tons of valuable traffic each visitor worth a dollar. Why not use JQuery?

Ignore JavaScript and its library which is Jquery as much as possible. Browsers like Internet Explorer still lacks support to all functionalists offered by j query. Moreover JavaScript is responsible for a great percentage of your overall blog load time.

How it works?

We have integrated both Addthis and ShareThis service in it. In order to customize the twitter button and others we took the Sharethis default code and customize it to change the button image, bubble size and count text. The widget that we initially developed looks extremely attractive compared to this one. You can see the first designed draft version in the screenshot below:

You can observe that both Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest and Stumbleupon are displayed with custom shapes, same sizes and different count colors. I spent a lot of time trying to make all buttons of the same size by using a common image linked by a sprite but the only problem with this plugin is that the counts wont show the official numbers registered at Twitter, Google and pinterest servers but they will show increments registered at ShareThis. If you add this sharing bar to your blog, you will see zero on all counters unless someone clicks them and circulates your content.

To correct this issue I had to unfortunately dropped the idea of sharing the above designed version and share this tutorial widget instead. However the widget on our blog still contains the twitter button which wont display official count but that of ShareThis. If you would like to replace it with the official big size twitter count box then you can surely do this by customizing the code shared below.

Many websites are available on the internet which provides very stylish blogger template at very low cost. If you purchase their template than that template will not contain any credit link. These websites also provide most of the free blogger template with Non-removable credit link. Means, what? If you’ll try to remove credit link from their template, then your blog will automatically redirect to their website (Homepage or a particular site). This is because they added some JavaScript into their free templates. In another hand, if you undo the changes and keep their original credit of template then it works perfectly.

Actually, these links are attached with some JavaScript or CSS. Finding JavaScript from the template and then removing is too boring and time-consuming also it requires lots of effort to do this. But in other hand, you can easily hide the credit/footer link via CSS. This method is very simple and takes only 2 minutes.

Steps to Remove Credit/Footer Link:

First of all, go to Blogger.com
Just Login to Blogger and select your blog.
Now go to Theme>HTML.

Go to the footer and find the credit/footer link which needs to remove/hide. You’ll find something like Copyright, credit or designed etc.

Wrong Niche

Mostly, people choose a blogging niche associated with lots of money instead of their interest or hobby. They don't have enough knowledge about that niche. They think they would somehow be able to add lots of quality content to their blog, but they're wrong. Due to lack of knowledge they start copying and rewriting articles from other blogs. When they realize that they're in wrong niche, they quit.

Tip: Choose a niche in which you're interested and you've knowledge about it. If you've knowledge about your niche, only then you'll be able to write quality content.

Giving Up Too Quickly

Most of the bloggers are too much fed up in the first 2 months that they finally come to a point that I Quit. They write 40-50 posts in the first 1-2 months and when they see that their traffic is not increasing they Quit.

Its impossible to get thousands of daily visitors in just one month. You can't make a blog successful by just writing 1 or 4 posts daily, but you also have to promote them to different networks like Facebook, Google Plus, Reddit etc.

How A Man With Just $26 Became Millionaire?

Everyone wants to get rich, as is everyone's right. Some people work long and hard for it, while others get lucky. But if you think it takes resources to become rich, then read the rest of this story, and judge for yourself. It's a story about Christian Gheorghe, a Romanian who came to the U.S with just $26 in his pocket, but a couple decades later, managed to sell a startup company for no less than half a Billion dollars!

This one is all for inspiration.

Gheorghe's journey from Communist Romania to the U.S is nothing short of a wonder. As a teenager in Romania in the '80s, he replaced vacuum tubes to keep his television running, and he made a living out of selling music records. He also taught himself a little bit of English off songs from the likes of Pink Floyd.

Saving up for years, Gheorghe used the money to buy a knock-off replica of the Commodore 64 PC. From there on, he used to hack into the video games on that machine, and taught himself to code! Most of us look towards college where we're taught coding! Gheorghe, of course, had no such luxury.

Migration to the U.S. in the early 1990s, he only had $26 in his pocket, and could not speak English. He did, however, know how to drive, and so stumbled into a job as a limo driver. That's when he started living in a cheap youth hostel.

While his job as a limo driver, Gheorghe met a man named Andrew Saxe, who would ultimately help him launch his new career. During the ride, Saxe learned about Gheorghe's interest in computers and told him to come by his office. Saxe ran a computer software consulting company. He hired Gheorghe, and the two built a company together. That company was one of the earliest that did "big data," though they didn't call it that back then.

They sold the company to Experian, and Gheorghe ultimately found himself in the position of a CTO for the new company.

After a few years, he launched a second startup, TIAN, and merged it with a company called OutlookSoft. OutlookSoft did a form of big data known as business analytics, where companies slice, dice, report, and predict trends in their business by sifting through their financial transactions.

This is when Christian's luck was about to change. SAP, the enterprise software giant showed an interest in OutlookSoft, and bought it for $500 Million. OutlookSoft was part of a crop of business analytics companies acquired by big enterprise software vendors around that time: Oracle bought Hyperion, IBM bought Cognos, and SAP bought OutlookSoft.

As a result, Gheorghe found himself as a CTO for SAP for a couple of years - a huge position for a self-taught coder.

In 2010, another pang to create a new startup hit Gheorghe, and Tidemark was born. It has all the signs of being another golden venture. Tidemark also does business analytics, but it's designed for the modern age: it is a cloud and mobile app. More importantly, it is designed to be what Gheorghe calls a "revolution at the edge" with a "Siri-like interface." That means that business folks can use it without help from their IT departments creating pre-programmed reports.

All they have to do is ask Tidemark a question, any question, about how their business is performing like ... Why isn't this product selling? What happens if we assign three more people to this project? What will our sales be next quarter? Tidemark answers with charts and graphs. It even names the people in the company who could help with the project.

It's an innovative idea, and is already attracting attention. The company has grown more than 300% year over year, and it is destined to hit the market again, much bigger than half a Billion dollars we presume!
