On the night of her eighteenth birthday, she unconsciously spoke of a prophecy, luckily though freaked out by it, Rhea witnessed it all. They promised each other to go see her Great Aunt Amarie, but Nia isn't sure if her crazy Aunt could help them uncover all the mystery in Nia's life.

But even before they could get to her Aunt Amarie, Nia already got her fair share of unexpected occurences. She finds herself explicitly drawn to a handsome stranger named Aaron. She dreamed about people who seem to know everything about who she truly is, but wont tell her otherwise.

Now she find herself in the middle of danger, when dreams and reality collide. She brace herself to uncover her True Fate.

My Impression

I never felt so frustrated in my life, while reading a book. And I don't exactly know whether its a good thing or a bad thing. The story started out with Nia and Rhea (who is actually hurt/wounded) somewhere in the woods, hiding from someone. With Nia talking telepathically with Rhea in the fear of being discovered. That did caught my attention and wondered what kind of powers and magical creature, could she possibly be. Then they escaped through a vehicle, sending out thoughts to "others" that they were okay and they need help. Then this Eric guy, suddenly appeared and drive their vehicle and wont answer any of Nia's questions. Once they arrive to their destination, what Nia found in the safe house shocked her enough to loose consciousness. That did a great job on making me held on and read more.

Second part of the story briefly explained how Nia and Rhea became friends and how they came to share Nia's secret. Ended up with the prophecy Nia spoke off while sleeping which was witnessed once again by Rhea. Once again, caught my so curious mind and made me go on reading.

World building was really awesome, it was very unique. I liked the idea of dream walking, meeting and training in your dream. Which I find really cool. Imagine, cramming for your exam tomorrow inside your dream, you'll still be well rested and ready! I was only confused about the "world" the other characters were talking about, about how they exist inside Nia's mind. I had trouble figuring that out, much less imagine it.

I found Nia too perfect. Beautiful, rich, good daughter, good friend, good sister, have magical powers, fast learner and the only flaws I saw in her was that, she doesn't know what she really is. I didn't like her much. Though, I did like the other characters especially Savannah. I didn't have troubles visualizing all the characters in this book, the author gave them distinctive personality.

There were nothing she hated more than love triangle. 'God I hope that's not what this is... Note to self, fate is a shady character.' she said smirking.

I did thought so too. With all the fate thing, I wasn't quite sure where to place Eric. And when the author made it clear as to whom Eric should belong... I was left wondering, "is that it?" just like that... and was only a physical attraction? I was sure Nia was so affected by Eric. Which really confused me a lot.

I liked the plot, kept me wondering what would unfold next, how Nia could grow as a character, how Aaron could be more like a 'Guardian' and not just the 'fated one', I wanted to know about what they really are. The thing is, almost 80% of the story was just about being fated with someone, and having a tattoo marks in the body. I was trying so hard to understand the importance of it in the whole story. What does it got to do with Nia's true identity?

I did say I don't like Nia, right? But in fairness to her, I can relate soooo much about how she feels in the story and the frustration that I was talking about earlier is actually all about how the author didn't EVEN GIVE a hint of what Nia is!!! I was 90% of finishing the book and still no clues as to what Nia's place in the prophecy. She's the chosen one... FOR WHAT? and then...

Aunt Amarie waited patiently as Nia dried her tears and took a deep breath. She knew what she was now and she still couldn't believe it.

OH MY GOSH! Good for you Nia! You already know what you are and still, all the readers don't! I don't know how to react really! As I said... FRUSTRATIONS!!! Good or bad you decide.

My Impression

Arianna woke up in the middle of the woods with no recollection of how she got there. Okay, that got me all intrigued. Then this good old school scene where the lead girl got bullied... yeah, that's kinda my favorite scenes even on my mangas. Then came the lead guy, eyes only for the lead girl. Common scenes, but yeah, definitely my fave. I like dreamy scenes.

This book really got hold of me. I found the plot thrilling, and I was always looking forward and wanting to crack something out. The world building is good, I find it simple, and you know how simplicity could sometimes blow your mind.

I can't relate much to Arianna. I mean, she's an okay lead character, not too dull, not too extreme but there's a bit of perfection in her. Chase on the other hand is the typical teenage boy with a mission to fulfill. I find him easy to relate with. With all that's going on with his life, struggling to escape from his father's fame and tries so hard to prove himself capable. He fell in love with the girl he needs to protect.

But then I got really bored on the chasing scene, where Arianna, Jade and Chase were on the run. It's dragging on that part, I seriously wish they would outran their pursuers already cause it's getting really tiresome. And I don't really like the part on the academy, it felt like there's something missing... I can't really put it into words, it's like it's too easy? too fast?

All in all, I did like the story and the ending made me want to read the second installment. I'd like to see how the new character Ethan, will come between Arianna and Chase. It's really something to look forward to.

I smile slightly and huff out a breath, “Trev, how could you?” I ask, then figure I might as well go ahead and say it. “I have tried to avoid you as much as possible since we got back; makes it kind of hard to talk.” I watch his eyes go wide.

He opens his mouth to say something then closes it and looks at me with an odd look on his face. “Why would you avoid me?”

I sigh and close my eyes for a moment, then look at him and decide to go for broke and get it out there. “When we were in Tabul, after you kissed me, I freaked. I thought I wasn’t able to protect you while being so close to you. But I thought it over and decided that maybe we could try being together. I was going to tell you that I wanted to be with you and not just as a protector, but you told me it was a mistake, and that it wouldn’t happen again.” I shrug, then finish, “I figured you regretted the kiss and didn’t really like me. Since we have gotten back, I’ve thought about you a lot, and I guess it is easier to avoid you than to see what I can’t have all the time.” I hold my breath for a moment, then force myself to take calming breaths and will away the heat in my cheeks.

I watch as Trevor blinks a couple of times, then blinks again before he smiles widely at me. I feel tears prickle, wondering why he has to be cruel about my feelings, but before I can do much more than feel embarrassed and hold my tears back, he takes hold of my chin with his thumb and fingers and makes me look at him.

“Can you see me OK?” he asks, and I have a lump the size of Grazier in my throat, so I just nod. “I have been in love with you for years. I wanted you when we kissed, and I have wanted you every moment of every day since I had that small taste.”

I search his face for the truth in his words and feel my stomach explode with butterflies. I feel lighter than I have in months. I feel hope and happiness rise up in me. Trevor just said that he loves me!

My Impression

Ridley House is a story about a girl named Kay, who mysteriously have no recollection of her past and had an 'On the Run' habit and never stayed in one place. Until she got accepted on a summer job at Ridley House. The place instantly feels like home to her and after seeing a painting of a girl who looks exactly like her, she knew, that even if the scary old gardener told her that she should have not returned, she needs to know the answers that the Ridley House have for her.

First few chapters got me hooked. Mystery behind Kay's past got my attention and was very eager to know what happened and what links to her to the Ridley House. The author did a very good job creating a very enigmatic plot which would make the readers cling on to the book.

I relate much to Kay's attitude, since I am so much like her in a way. She is held back, patient and she controls her emotion well. Other supporting characters were okay too, they are well-developed and the author gave a very great job giving them distinctive personalities.

There were parts where I did predict how the story will unfold, but aside from that I find this book a good read. Though there aren't any heart pumping actions here, the story is a good slow paced one, created in proficiency.

My Impression

I am already a Fan... Yes! Totally a fan of Sin Blackmore. I love her character so much I wanna kiss her and ask for her autograph! I love her strong personality, how she love and values herself as who she is, how she cares for other people, how she delivers her witty side. She totally ROCKS!

She narrowed her eyes. "Nobody likes a smart ass." "Wow, then you must not have many friends."

Grow Babies? Was she serious? I suddenly wanted to try the spell, just to see if it really worked. But then I'd be stuck with a kid. So not worth it.

I've read books that revolves around Fey creatures, but never had I read something like this. The world building is very dynamic. It's like you've stepped out into a new world.

At first I thought the book was about zombie slayers,

She rummaged through the clothes piled at the foot of my bed, and held up an "I'm a Juicy Girl" shirt. "No," I said firmly. "I'm not advertising to the zombies."

But zombies though they appear mostly here, are all but extras. There so many creatures here, that it felt like the urban fantasy, fantasy and paranormal creatures collided in this book (Sorry, but no vamps here, though). It was so action packed. Not to mention those two hunks that contends for Sin's affection.

This really was my personal hell. The light god and the dark. Both of them seemed hell bent on testing me to the very limits of my self-control. And all they'd done is smile at me.

OMG! Who to choose!? At first I thought I'll go for Team Llaw because I'm all for those bad ass guys that spells trouble on their forehead. But Van did redeem himself almost every time in this book too.

"I do not know this word..idiot."[Van] "Try looking in a mirror."[Sin] "why?"[Van]

But then, with all the glamour Sin, really fight hard not to fall just because those two are heaven sent hunks, she stood her ground and wanted real love.

And I was nobody's plaything.

I love each main characters here, they are very well thought of. They compliment each others character and bring more life to the lead. I love how Sin bonded with Fae. I liked their tandem and did a tear-jerky in one chapter too.

Though the solution to the problem was "THAT SIMPLE?", I really liked how it turned out in the ending.

My Impression

This book had me feel like I'm watching a TV series. The book is in a multiple POV format, and it's one of the things would make you hold on and want to know more about the story.

Although I'm a bit confused about where the setting of the story is, I just took it as... in another world where half angels and humans co-exist together, without the human knowledge about the half-angels, of course. And aside from the most confusing part where Zach explained everything about all kinds of half-breeds angels in one go. The story is very entertaining.

I like Daniah being a family centered person. Even if she is adopted in a human family. I like how her family shows closeness and love. But I liked Cordelia more... Maybe because she has a very strong personality, and I'm a sucker for women who kick butts and all. And I don't like girls who falls overly in love with someone just because they're like heaven sent hunks.

The story was very well thought of and I love the way the author intertwine each character's story. How they all hold a certain pieces of the story. I think this multiple POV format did made this book full of suspense and not to mention... sizzling sex. (You've been warned young fellows below 18... not for you!)

My Impression

As the story unfolds in the latter parts, all I could think of was Rapunzel's great, great, great grandchildren are making nasty scenes in this story.

I found Moving Heaven very intriguing, I got hooked the moment I read it. I loved how Gen and Kalem met and get to know each other. It was the most romantic part in this story. I relate to their situation, not because it happened to me but because I do know it happens in real life.

I hated Gen in some parts of the story, because of how she treated her dog. I was like... "You call yourself his mom?!". I'm a full pledge dog lover, and she really ticks me off! But... I did cried with her too. (Dog related, of course.)

I liked how the story started, no, I loved it! I loved Gen dropping bombs on her ego-maniac boyfriend. I love her funny side too. Although I really can't believe she would forget her dog most of the time just because she's in love. (Okay, I need to move on... I know.)

I sympathized with Kalem's background too. You have every material things anyone could ask for, but that's all he has. He is empty and lonely. I can imagine what it is for him to realize that after all those years being young and healthy, you meet "the one" when you are about to die. That really SUCKS!

But when it got to the middle part, I felt that the story was somehow done hastily, especially the training part. I can't feel the new character connections. The story somehow became shallow for me. Plus, Gen and Kalem seems to believe everything they were told instantly, without having any doubts at all. I was like.. "How old were they again?". It became too unrealistic for me, that Gen and Kalem would be too gullible and the story became too predictable.

Just thought about writing a different post today. Instead of posting loads of review, I decided to feature something different. Something Book Lovers anticipate most of the time, especially when it is a very good book.

Movie Monday features a book that is going to be filmed soon. So, for my first Movie Monday, I decided to feature Divergent. Since, this is the most recent book I've read in which movie will be out this year.

What do I think of the book?

Though I've watched Hunger Games first before reading this one. I haven't got the similarity issues. Aside from they are both under dystopia genre, I can't see anything to compare them with.

I like the story of Divergent, I felt the grief of Tris parents after knowing she will be in a different faction, I felt how Tris wanted to belong and prove herself to her new faction, I felt Tris and Four's romantic moments and looked forward every chapter hoping for a progress.

The world building is definitely awesome, but I don't know if it is "just me" but I did imagine the Dauntless Headquarters to be under some sort of cave. (My best friend told me that it was "just me". Oh well...)

Anyway, based on previous experiences from books turned movie. I don't expect much. I've learned how to NOT wish for the movie to be as great as I read... because it won't be!

Nothing beats a good old book and your highly imaginative brains.

Her father wasn't exaggerating; she was at the top of her class. Not that it won her any friends. Not that anything would. Why do they hate me so much.

Most of the time her brothers stood out for her, but they were always the odd one out, an outcast. There was one incident that forced her to fight back, and Ellie being sick of always being bullied decided to runaway and eventually discovered a secret entrance that leads to the surface. A place where she thought was gone forever.

The world wasn't opening up and swallowing her. This was outside. This was above. She looked into the sky again. Sun. Clouds. It was so much bigger in real life, so much brighter - so much more terrifying.

My Impression

At first I thought the story would be like "The City of Ember", but visualizing the technology they have here in Amber Rain, I already guessed not. It would pass for a middle grade genre if it weren't for some violent settings. It was an easy read and I really felt like the book is for ages 14+.

I wasn't really enticed by the book cover, I was actually wondering about the connection between the title Amber Rain to the the Girl looking at the wilderness. As I read the story it does makes sense after all.

The story was okay for me, it kept me reading till the end of the book without pausing. I guess the mystery behind their existence, their history and the mystery of what's waiting for them outside the shelter made me held on. I was actually also waiting for Ellie to fight back and get even with the other kids. I guess, it touches some nerves. LOLx.

I also liked the minimal twist in the story, about Ellie finding out who she really is and the switch! I really liked that part. I was like... TIME TO KICK SOME BULLIES GUTS!

Although the ending isn't a cliffhanger type, I find myself looking forward in knowing what's going to happen next, how will they survive, how will everyone get along and how those hanging romance bloom.

My Impression

I was totally dumbfounded by this book. First and foremost, the cover. It was really enticing and mystifying. My first impression was, "Okay, book under a teen & young adult genre, possibly has to do with paranormal alien or magic stuffs.". Uh-uh... how wrong I was. The title is quite catchy too. I haven't read the first book though, but I wasn't lost while reading this one.

While I was reading it, I eventually realized that this book would offer me such an inspiring story and it did! I actually highlighted several quotes that I would that would be a perfect share to my love ones and friends. There were those scenes, (as simple as it is...) that will touch your heart deep because you know that it happen in real life and would basically be the exact thing you'd say if it did happen to yours.

"Well, first of all, every child deserve a grandma to spoil them, and mine won't have one. You know what? Bump all of that, every child deserves a mother to love them. I can't even love myself."

The originality of the book blew me away. Never did I thought of anything like this, I mean NEVER! I did knew the saying "Life after death" but I haven't really thought about living it as the author visualize it in the book. I could only say one thing... COOL! How would you like to live the "same" way as you did here in earth while under the angel supervision and knowing... Literally knowing, that you're just one step closer to either heaven and hell. I super loved the world building in this one, it seems logical and believable. Well, perhaps except for this one...

Ash handed Nate and me a backpack.

"School supplies?" Nate asked, shaking the bag, his eyes wide.

"And, not exactly. You don't need to worry about graduating. You nee to worry about warfare. You'll find binoculars, a Bible, a crucifix necklace to wear that's been anointed with oil, Grace's case file, the roles you're playing in this after-death purification process, a copy of your Spirit Guide Insurance Policy, your daily meditation guide, cell phones, a tranq gun, an Angel Phonebook with who to call for specific problems, your Limbo passports in case someone needs to see your ID, Spirit Guide For Dummies 101, etc. --"

And the humor! Geez, I think I caught myself smiling like a hundred times while reading this.

Okay, I know that's not the best funny verse in this book but really, it made me smile. Olga is all so human with all her imperfections. There were times that I'd like to smack her head for wanting everything and not being contented with what she has. She is selfish that way and I find her so unfair. It was like reading a "reverse harem manga" [when a lead girl is being liked by most of the the boy character in the story] which is cute if it is a manga, but not that cute when it comes to novels.

Nate or Conner? Nate showed his dark side only to protect Olga which means he's do everything for her and would fight for her no matter what. While, Conner would do too. Wait, looking at this point of view I could understand Olga now. I can't possibly choose between the two of them. Okay, maybe I'll choose Riel instead.

My Impression

This was the first book I read which got a male protagonist POV. What amazes me the most is how I often flip the cover to check if the author is "really" a female. The way I visualize Sage, he is a 100% male. The author did bring out her masculine side in the form of Sage.

Sage is an awesome character, I liked him very much. He is a good sort of rebellious teen, doing what he like, not letting other manhandled him. He is very intelligent. I admire him for being a quick thinker and a thorough planner. Like he's always 10 step ahead of the other characters. Though I already got a hint about the "truth" in the earlier chapters, I think it's his attitude that gave him away.

A person can be educated and still be stupid, and a wise man can have no education at all.

I wasn't really impress by the book cover though, it looks boring for me. But all in all I like the story, though it was a very slow paced. I enjoyed how Sage outwit every character in the story.

Conner answered, "Mrs. Turbeldy warned me that you have a history of running away. Where did you go?"

To church of course. To confess my sins."

Though I "DID" like the story... I don't think anticipation is high enough for me, to read it's other sequels. There's no loose ending to hang into, no romance ( well, there are two possibilities, but I didn't find it interesting enough ) to watch out for. So... there you go....

This is why I don't like sharing my book, some just don't understand. Books are "SCARED"! I remembered I let my friend borrow a book from me. I made it clear that she must take good care of it. She did promise, but when the book was returned.... . She actually told me that it was just a tiny fold in the corner page. "A TINY FOLD!!!!" plus the book spine are full of curls. It was my favorite book! From that day on, I never let anyone borrow my books ever again. (Call me selfish and all, I learned my lesson the hard way!) I don't even care whenever she tease me for having a OCD when it comes to books. Like DUH! NEVER will I let you touch my books again!

I do have hots for bad ass boys... who doesn't? Even there's a wide blinking "DANGER" sign on their forehead. I find them thrilling and challenging.

I super agree.

Well, I thought so too. ^_^

As much as I dislike my huge Calculus book, I know deep inside it's the only one who'll redeem me from failing. (✖╭╮✖)

We pass the Envadi. I clench my shaking hands and risk a peek back. His gaze meets mine, though he's still speaking to a servant. I trip and hurry to right myself, this time sure to watch where I'm going. Though I don't look again, I feel his gaze still on me. What is he planning to do to me?

My Impression

When I was reading this book, I can't help but imagine Khal Drogo and Khaleesi. Actually they are the ones who were reenacting the characters inside my head.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Serena has dark hair and all, but you can't blame my internal DVD player. They just appeared out of nowhere.

Anyway, I found this book very unnerving. I'm an independent woman, grew up being always relied on, expectations from me are high (Which frustrates me most of the time). So I see myself as a very capable human, I value my worth and quite proud of it. Reading how women in this book were degraded, controlled and owned, makes me furious.

"Very good pedigree," he mumbles."Father most impressive. Mother's Father is Devon Mullshire. His and his Fathers' powers were excellent. Simply excellent."

What the heck is she? A dog? Geez! How the author emphasized that the women in the book were merely a commodity, really touched some nerves. It was believably great. I'm still on the verge of teleporting there and start a rebellion myself.

As I read the first few chapters, I found it very disturbing ( as a female who believes in equality ), compelling in a way that you wanted to find out how Serena, being who she is, will bring change to their current state, how she could tap into her own power proving that women are also an important part of the society and anticipating how Serena and her new owners' relationship will bloom into a beautiful love story.

Yeah, I have Mildred and Veda Pierce living in my head, so what? My name is Pierce and it makes sense to me, and that's all that matters.

She had been locked up for 10 years in the compound under a man who raped and drugged her. Now as she escaped, she has been on the run together with her ten-year-old brat who she whole heartedly wish to give a normal life.

Mia is real, isn't she? I mean I have two 1945 film characters living in my head. Why not create an imaginary ten-year-old travelling companion too?

My Impression

After I finished the book, I realized that being loony can be very cool and funny. I was really blown away by how Pierce is. This book let me journey into a girl's psychotic mind. The funny thing is, it never felt like "She is cracked in the head." It felt like she is trying her best to preserve her sanity, it seems logical for me that her brain works like that. She is intelligent, she is different, she is not normal (in every way).

The book is dragging in the first few chapters, I honestly thought that I would actually learn how to cook tender steak and kidney pie and many other recipes from Pierce (cooking tips and tricks), but the author made it so that the reader would understand her thoroughly. To get to know her world, and mind you it's completely strange. She has two other Pierces living (yup... alive and kicking and cooking) inside her head. One represents her confidence and the other is her conscience. The only thing I didn't like in the story was Pierced attachment to classic movies in which I can't relate to.

At first I thought it will be full of sparkling handsome vampires, but no. This book is never what I expect it to be.

I liked the plot, it's really compelling. Once a new character is introduced you look forward to know them more and what role will they play in the story. I also like the way the author didn't give to much info about Pierce herself. I guess that's what's thrilling about this book. There's still so much to learn about her and she is such an interesting yet bizarre protagonist.

HOLY. ALIEN. BABIES. Errm... Sorry, it's just that the cover is just so beautiful. Burning the world concept in the background, model Daemon pissed off but still gorgeous and those abs. DAYUM!

Anyway, I really wondered how this book could be as exciting as the third book Opal. But boy, I wasn't disappointed. Kathy being captured by the Daedalus isn't as boring as I thought it would be. The truth and lies behind everything got me wondering all over again.

Daemon and Kathy's reunion got me all teary eyed. Yeah, I honestly never expect to be touched by it, but I guess it got something to do with Daemon's POV. How he saw Kathy as the only girl he loves, how he is deeply in love with her, and how much pain he is emotionally.

"My heart stopped. My entire world came to a halt. I walked forward, and my step faltered. Only at the last possible second, I caught myself from hitting the floor on my knees. The back of my throat and eyes burned." -Daemon

Kathy is my ideal heroine. She is not weak, as I say in my previous reviews, not a damsel in distress (even though Daemon wants her to be one). She makes mistakes, sometime can be annoyingly stubborn, she is not perfect. She is selfless, she thinks and stand for what she believes in. I admire her for handling everything on her own.

"She attacked several members of my team."

A smile spread across my face. That's my girl. "So sorry to hear that." - Daemon to Nancy

And there was Archer, I was really mystified by him, being the silent type, by-stander but someone who cares character that he is. He is certainly someone to watch out for in the next installment.

"Well, aren't you just a special snowflake," Daemon murmured.

"That I am." Archer's lips quirked into a half grin.

I just wanted to say something to Blake... You got that coming dude... You certainly got that coming!

This book certainly got a pretty good hold on me. The story line is good as it progress to it's end. And speaking of "end", geez... the ending of this book... . There goes Jennifer Armentrout's soul sucking ending. There's still so much to look forward to and more than enough reason to anticipate the final book.

Dad only struck me in places that wouldn't show when I wore clothes, so people wouldn't get suspicious and think he was beating me or anything.

Not long enough, even after a years of preparations, the thing they dreaded about finally came. Kyra was kidnapped and much to her dismay, she least expect her kidnapper, Will, to be so handsome, mysterious and the most annoying truth about him is his kindness.

I opened my eyes to see the boy staring down at me. His face was like an angel, perfect pale skin and golden eyes.

Kyra found herself brought in a secret location where she learned that everything she believes in turns out to be wrong and was told about who she really is, a magical creature called Djinn.

"I'm a Djinn," I repeated for the sixteenth time, and still didn't believe it.

"I'm a genie who grants wishes and lives in a lamp?" I cocked my head at her, in the hope she'd realize just how insane she sounded.

Finally agreeing to accept the truth about her identity, she have to be accustomed to Djinn's way of life. That is finding her own powers and staying away from the person she loves.

This book is a breath of fresh air for me. I was intrigue by how the author would incorporate the "genie" thing in the story. It was really an interesting concept. I find the plot really good, it was compelling, the kind of book that you don't want to put down even if you're going to the toilet.

And the twist!!! OH-MI-OH-MY! I never expected it, you can just feel Kyra's confusion and anger. I honestly considered it myself, if it were to happen to me. I empathized with her about not getting want she really wants, cause she understand their situation and doesn't want to demand on her father cause she cared so much about him, and she knows how hard it really is for him too. Kyra is such a kind hearted girl and she valued her family and friends.

I don't really know how I should react on Will's character. He is such a rare personality these days cause I've been reading loads of bad-boys-outside-good-boy-inside lately, and Will is such a gentlemen from the very beginning. I found him a bit dull at first, I mean no challenges at all. I would love to get to know his bad-ass side where he would fight for Krya no matter what roadblock awaits them.

The story all in all is action packed and is really is a page turner. I enjoyed how it is well thought-out. It was like I was watching an action movie inside my head. I also like the supporting characters, especially Pyke, but oh well....

Book Review: The Immortal Game by Joannah Miley

This is a whole new way of viewing your mythology. I never expected something like this. I was expecting more like Percy Jackson, you know the sons and daughter of a myth God, since it's easier to create their personality and there will be no comparison of sorts.

If you don't have any background about mythology, you wont get lost in the story, it's like your mythology 101. The author made it sure you understand everything about them.

I love how the author gave life to Ruby. I can relate to her and somehow felt her pain. (I've been a frustrated wannabe of my dad myself.) She look up to him and her respect for him is carried through her wanting to continue his work. I also sympathize with her about being scared of being in a relationship and/or being in love. Her perception of being left alone on her own was totally understandable.

Ash character is a bit off for me. I love mythology, and I really can't imagine the God of war being in love. I grew up to believe that all he cares about is war, but then there was always the warrior Princess Xena. Plus the thought of Ash falling in love with Ruby only because she beat her at chess, is a flimsy reason. I was really scratching my head whenever he says "I love you" initially. Their relationship is a bit superficial for me and hastily done. But come to think of it, it's a greek God we are talking about, and they're simply like that.

The story was slow at the first few chapters but it catches up it the end. It was like a reading a YA novel then in a blink of an eye its your good old classic mythology. In a good way of course. I like the way the author maintain the treacherous flaws of the Gods. How they are a mixture bored and all powerful immortals and would do anything in their power to get what they want and defy what they don't want in a manner of making it an entertainment for all.

As Kathy and Daemon deal with Dawson's disturbing behavior, they still try their best to become a normal couple. Having to depend on each other's decisions, they work out every situation as partners.

"What kind of punishment would that be?"

He chuckled. "Probably the sort of punishment you'd enjoy."

Warmth infused my cheeks and veins.

Daemon being the over-protective brother, usually runs to chase after Dawson and make sure he doesn't get to trouble or get himself caught again. Kathy promised to help Dawson bring back Bethany, but under the condition that he'll have to wait as they organize a plan to do so.

Much to their dismay, Blake comes back with an offer that they're most likely find hard to turn down. Problem is, they have to decide to whether to trust him again or not. They will soon realize that a secret organization is experimenting on the hybrids and torturing them. With the help of dubious source, they will have to risk everything again.

“I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will.”

You'll never know how those simple, cheesy sentence could affect you so much. This is such an "Oh, no!!!" moment for me. This is so far my favorite book in the series. Daemon and Kathy tried to live their lives the best way they can. They rely on each other's opinion and sort them out. Yep. Kathy had to learn the hard way. Their relationship is great. The author had made it so that it took time to develop so it doesn't seem rushed. Of course there's still their cat/dog bickering, which I find cute and funny.

“A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."
Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face.”

Kathy is less stubborn and could totally kick-ass. I felt bad for her about her relationship with Dee, but I know they will fix everything again. Daemon on the other hand is still ridiculously charming, as always. He showed how much his family means to him. He is such a good actor being a jerk and an ego maniac when he really is... as Dee said "a thankless hero".

The plot was such a thrilling ride as they come closer to their enemy, introducing some more key characters which will leave you wondering "who among them would betray or help them".

And the ending... I was like then "GO DIE BLAKE!!!" then and .
Yep. An absolute crashing ending.

Kathy gets too confused about her feelings for Daemon and tries to hold them back leaving her in denial. She's too presuming that he is only doing all the sweet deeds because of their "alien mojo" connection.

"I wanted what my parents had. Undying love. Powerful. True. A whacked-out alien bond couldn't do that for me."

The problem is the more she denies it, the more she falls... hard.

“His brows were lowered in concentration. Thick, sooty lashes hid his eyes.
They lifted and his lips spread into a grin.
I was in so much trouble.”

Then the new student appear, Blake Saunders, who seems to take interest in her. While Kathy is sure that there was actually no competition between him and Daemon, she gives Blake a chance to get to know her, for normality sakes. But so much for normal, she realize that Blake has a secret of his own, and guess what? He has something to do with a Luxen too.

While there's so much happenings going on they blindly become aware that the real threat was at their feet, much more dangerous that the Arum. The DOD - Department of Defense. And now Kathy is unexplainably and uncontrollably having alien powers, DOD should never know that Daemon is now linked to her, or they'll end up like Dawson (Daemon's brother) and Bethany(Dawson's Girlfriend). Dead.

“If there is anything, there is us. You and me. No one else.”

Next installment of the Lux Series, Onyx, will surely take you on a roller coaster ride. There had been so much of the jaw dropping events, so many twist and turn. Kathy and Daemon's chemistry is still undeniably sizzling. If Obsidian made women fall and drool, well then it's wash and repeat like ten times more with this one.

Kathy did irritate me more than once, but I love how she is not a perfect heroine. She makes idiotic decisions, hated her for being freaking stubborn, but it made her character grow. I find myself smiling about the fact that she is such a book nerd, which obviously I can relate. She is still full of confidence and I super love how she can still snap back during Daemon's arrogant moments.

“Just because I’m human doesn’t mean I’m weak.”

And Daemon, Oh, Daemon. He is so funny in this series. It's really nice to know Daemon's soft sweet side. Told you there's really something about those bad ass dude who can fall deep and he is so cute when he is jealous! He had me laughing so hard as he pretend to not to remember Blake's (new guy) name and keeps on changing it just to annoy him. It was hilarious.

Oh, geez. I twisted toward Blake. “This is Daemon Black.”
His smile faltered. “Yeah, I know who he is, too.”
Laughing under his breath, Daemon straightened. At his full height, he was a good head taller than Blake. “It’s always nice to meet another fan.”
Yeah, Blake had no idea what to say to that.”

"Jesus." Blake rubbed his throat. "You have anger management problems. Its like a disease." "There's a cure and it's called kicking your ass."

Meeting Daemon Black makes her regret taking such effort. He is a perfect description of the term, "All kinds of arrogant and all kinds of hot".

"For a moment, all I could do was stare at him. He was probably the hottest guy I'd ever seen in real life, and he was a total douche. Go Figure. "You know, all I wanted was directions. This is obviously a bad time." One side of his lips curled up. "Anytime is a bad time for you come knocking on my door, kid."

"Kid?" I repeated, eyes widening.

A dark, mocking eyebrow arched again. I was starting to hate that brow.

"I'm not a kid. I'm seventeen."

"is that so? He blinked. "You look like you're twelve. No. Maybe thirteen, but my sister has this doll that kinda reminds me of you. All big eyed and vacant."

If that doesn't mess up things between them already. Daemon being the over-protective brother with his twin sister, Dee who became her instant BFF added more fuel to their cat-dog fight. Something with the "I don't like you being friends with my sister" and "Kicking puppies".

"Daemon was hot, but he was a jerk. A bully. And I'd meant what I said to Dee. He wasn't going to scare me off from being friends with his sister. He'd just have to deal with it. I was here to stay."

Series of accidents and sometimes unexplained incidents happened to Kathy and as she got much closer to Dee, she met other family members, whom like Daemon, treated her like she is some kind of terrorist or something. Kathy knew and didn't really took long to notice that something is different about them, something not normal.

Add it up with some perplexing mix of emotions Daemon throws at her.

"Come on. Please don't tell you don't think you're pretty." he considered my silence. "no guys has ever said you're pretty?" "Or...maybe you're not aware of it?"

"You know what I've always believed?" he said softly. "I've always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect."His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe.

Then cold...

Daemon lost his smile and stare. "I'm never happy around you."

Warm...

Confusion flashed in his eyes as he leaned forward, his lips parting slightly. "I think I understand now." "Understand what?" I whispered. "I like to watch you blush." His voice barely above murmur as his thumb traced circles on my cheek.

Then cold again.

"Actually I was being serious." He leaned over the table, staring up at me through thick lashes. "You're not wanted here."

One unexpected night, when Daemon saved her life for the third time made her discover, his true identity. Kathy realizes that normal teenage troubles isn't the main problem here, She'll find herself in a middle of an old age war between Daemon's kind and their worst enemy not to mention the DOD - Department of Defense who seems to offer unknown threat. Anxiety builds up more and more, having to realize that she needs to stick around with Daemon in order to save her life and not risk the safety of Daemon's family.

I've been browsing Goodreads for a 4.00 - 5.00 star rating and found this one. The guy staring at you with his electric green eyes on the cover, intrigue me. I mean the model looked hot, right?
Well, me being me don't usually read back cover teaser, I like my book to be thrilling enough to surprise me in every way they can, but I do look at the genre and the "Alien" genre, isn't really my kind of deal. The word alien usually fill my head with the creepy huge head and eyes and insanely thin body. I was turned off at first, but I'm glad that I did give this book a chance.
There was so many speculations about how the plot resembles to Twilight Saga, you know the...

New girl in school living with
Single parent
Ridiculously handsome/beautiful but super isolated/weird family
One family member became your bff and
The other became your love interest and
Not all family members agrees with that and
How they sparkle... uhm, actually not really but they do glow like a human size firefly if they wanted to.

I honestly didn't realize their comparison at all, I guess it was because I've read twilight years ago but it was mainly because I was so caught up with Kathy and Daemon's love/hate relationship thrill ride. The book is funny, a bit cheesy (in a good way), sexy. Kathy isn't a pushover, and I love the fact that she isn't the usual damsel in distress, without a doubt a strong heroine. Not the kind that would die in the absence of Daemon.

“My palms itched to have a close encounter of the bitch-slap kind with his face.” -Kathy

Plus, if you have a thing for bad boys who could sweetly fall head over heels, which I know I do, then you'll agree with me. Daemon is sooooo much awesome and hotter than Edward and Jacob combine. Similarities and all, I don't care... knowing Daemon alone.. is definitely worth it.
