Dassault Aviation Rafale 3 Plan View Reverse Engineering

Assalamualaikum and good morning to all,

Last march 2013, i have went to LIMA 2013 at Langkawi and watch all fighter aircraft on the tarmac ready for air display. And one of them is Rafale from the Dassault Aviation. This aircraft make it full appearance through the whole week by flying around the airstrip fast and agile than other aircraft. Therefore, it have make me to re engineered the design on the 3 plan view to my workstation. Therefore i show you most of the steps similar to previous sukhoi 30 in my blog.

Starts from a 3 plan view of the rafale with the real dimensions. Create planes all over the fuselage and draw the frame of the fuselage.

Then with multi section surface, create the surface of the fuselage.

Then create the rudder, air intake, wings, and the canards.

Ready to do symmetry process to complete the aircraft.

And now it is completed.

Changing the colour scheme to looks more like the army version.

Thats all. This are the 3 view plan that i referred from the internet as in the references below. It takes me 8 hours to complete this design project. I hope you guys can get the most out of it. mail me for any questions or put your comments below.

Using Design Table in CATIA V5

Assalamualaikum wbt and good morning everyone,

As CATIA V5 class have started here in USM, there are few questions that are been asked from the students to my colleague and me regarding this software and as for yesterday, the students learn on how to associate parameters in CATIA model with their table in excel using table association in CATIA V5.

There are few problems that are usually accidentally made by beginners and here i describe what are the problems that usually been made, and mostly are made in yesterday class.

1. Why is my design table in excel cant associate with my CATIA V5 parameters?

Simptoms: When i activate the design table icon on the bottom of my CATIA V5 screen, there is no options to associate the parameters and the table as the windows are blanked. And I am sure that i have made the table according to the tutorial.

solutions:

1. Check your excel file, and make sure you start with the first line of the excel, and not at the seventh line or any other line. must start it in the first line.

2. I have made my design table but it is not shown in the history tree.

Solutions:

1. Go to tools > options > infrastructure > part infrastructure > and highlight infrastructure and relations option.

Assalamualaikum to all muslims and good morning for non muslim friends,

In today post, no tutorial posted, but here i attached pictures for the students that are learning CATIA V5 in our class. So as for today, they have started to learn part design and sketcher. These pictures are captured in our Computer Aided Design Room that is located at USM School of Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering.

Many questions asked from them usually about common mistakes that are usually made by beginners such as:

1. Why is the modelled get dimmed and the history tree is zomming in and out when i use the zoom in and out icon? --- That is when you accidentally activated the history tree and deactivated the model.

Solution: Click the white line on the history tree and the model will be reactivated.

2. Why is my sketch is not in green as my friend does? --- The profile sketched is not fully contrained.

Solution: A fully constrained profile means that, all the constraint needed for the geometry and the position of the geometry also need to be constrained. As an example, draw a rectangular, constraint the width and height, then constraint one point of the rectangular with the center of the sketch (0,0).

3. Why is my sketch cannot be pad or pocket and an error window appears? --- Read the windows warning and it will explain to you that the profile have a problem, ambiguity.

Solution: Return back to the previous sketch, then select an icon shown as a ' traffic light'. Then click on the sketch analysis, icon with a magnifying glass. Go to the geometry tab and make sure there is only a closed profile, either one or more, depends on your situation. And delete or change it to a construction line for any profile that are not needed and marked as isolated and etc. Click OK. and exit the sketcher. Again, repeat the pad/ pocket operation, if the problem happens again, repeat previous operation.

4. Why is my friend have the product on his tree while i didnt have one? --- Yours are correct and your friend is not.

Solution: To model a part, you need start with a part, in a history tree. It isn't wrong if you have such as your friend, but, a product in a history tree is for assembly design that you will learn in the future.

CATIA V5 tips #1 Analysis your sketch

Assalamualaikum and good day friends and visitors.

Did you ever face a problem where, you can't do pad, pocket process with your sketches?

Here is how you can do,
// Click cancel on the pad or any 3d process that you have do with your sketches. Usually it will notify to you that your sketch have a problem.
// Go to your sketch by double clicking it. make sure you are in sketcher workbench by now.

// Look onto traffic light icon on the bottom of your CATIA V5 interface.

// Then click to the magnifier icon that is sketch analysis.

// A window of sketch analysis will appears.

// Go to geometry.
// And make sure your profile is closed as notified in the window if you want to do pad or pocket process.
// And also look for any points that are not in used and turn it into construction item or delete item if its not in use in your sketches.
// And look for any overlap lines in your sketches by examining your sketch with the sketch analysis window. And also floating lines that are not in use. usually this mistakes are made by the beginners.

// Last step, make sure your only closed profile is available in the window.

// Click ok. and exit your sketcher. try to do the pad or pocket process and it should be working.

// Else, repeat step no 2 - 10.
// Good luck and keep trying until it works !

For today i would like to share some of my rendering with CATIA V5, by using quick photo studio that usually at Part Design Workbench and Assembly Design workbench R19.

Yesterday when i clean up my desktop, with mess, i found a folder that are these renderings. These renderings is for 3d perspectives competition last year. This chair is design with imagine & shape. I am not really good with this workbench, and i tried to use this workbench. and here are some images that i get from the renderings process.

its been a while i did not visit my blog. thanks for those visitors who visit my tiny blog either for surfing or learning on using catia. right now, i have some commitment that is not related with catia. a commitment of leading an assembly CH750 Experimental Aircraft Kit, doing some research on 2 axis camera stabilized by using arduino programming, fluent, wind tunnel and nastran patran. plus, an interesting hobby that is piloting RC airplane, that is an electric cessna 4 channel that i bought it from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

B747 400 Reverse Engineering Tutorial with CATIA V5

As i ve promised, here i show to all of you, tutorial on how reverse engineering with catia v5 for Boeing 747 400 commercial airplane. This method of reverse engineering only requires 3 view plane (top, side, front) as a datum reference to do the 3D modelling.

This method is not to accurate with only 80% accuracy and it has lost high accuracy on the detail area. But, a higher accuracy can be obtained by acquiring image that are in high detail such as detailed drawing plan.

This method requires user to use different workbench in CATIA v5 that are Wireframe and Surface Design, Photo Studio and Assembly workbench. I have done this tutorial using this three workbenches.

You can surf to these videos step by step, but unfortunately, some of the video cant be played in the youtube because of its objection on the video that are more than 15 minutes. so these video cant be viewed for now. InsyaALLAH, when i have time, i will split it to make it less than 15 minutes.

Assalamualaikum wbt and good day to all catia users around the world. HOw's your life recently? tonnes of work with your CATIA workstation everyday?

For this post, i would like to show to you my new finished project on Reverse Engineering with CATIA V5 by using 3 view plane method on B747 400. This method is same as my previous post on Su 27 reverse engineering. As before, Su is for military purposes but this B747 400 is for civil used to trasport passengers.

i am really admire on this popular airplane, and as we know it, almost all Airliners have this type of airplane in their inventory. with its 4 turbine engine located on both of its wing made it a beautiful airplane that can travel fast and far distance.

I have also put the paint scheme of my famous airline in my country that is Malaysia Airlines System (MAS). I am sure you ever heard of this airline in your country stands with other airlines company. MAS have been established since i was child and the paint scheme reminds me about its early steps to become the most famous and prestige airline.

I ve done this B747 400 reverse engineering by using wireframe and surface design and part design for solid modelling. and also a bit of photo studio to place the stickers and simple rendering. in the future, i will upload other constructing picture of this airplane so that everybody can learn, share and try new things with CATIA V5.

I didnt put the windows and doors yet for now. maybe in some times, i will place the windows and doors.
