CATS ON TUESDAY

One evening laying in my bed and reading a book, I suddenly saw a little hill on my bed.

I wanted to straighten out the cover when suddenly I found some resistance in form of Rosie who played "undercover". So I left the hill and continued to read my book.

When Rosie arrived in 2007, I had bought this tower for her. Ever since she was the only occupant, Arthur and Pookie weren't interested at all in this strange thing.

But things change and since a couple of weeks Arthur has discovered the tower ! Rosie wasn't very happy with that and although she loves her Arthur (or I like to believe it) she was not prepared to share her place with him.

But cats are different than politicians, they find an agreement. Rosie on the top as always and Arthur in the bottom. This is usually the view when in the morning I switch on my light. They both wait for breakfast.

Then I saw them starring at something, which turned out to be Pookie, who also wanted breakfast.

When her belly is full she loves to lay on the computer desk and watch Mr. G playing cards or making payments, then she comforts him.

Rosie the sweet innocent looking pretty girl, who tidies up her mousies and plays with them

like here, before the puts them in the food bowls during the night, turned out to be a cruel executioner, who has decapitated a real mouse !!

When Mr. G. came in the kitchen yesterday morning to check if there was enough food for his darling cats what did he find ... a mouse head, thoroughly cut off the mouse body ! It seemed to him that the mouse was smiling ! Fortunately Rosie hadn't put the head in a food bowl and just left the head there to look at the bowls. Isn't she kind ?

and there she sat, the innocent girl, probably digesting the mouse's left overs.

Arthur doesn't know what to do with himself because outside it rained, so he stayed near the heating or even ironed my T-shirts which I had put there to dry. Otherwise he keeps an eye on Mr. G.'s food and if there is something interesting he just helps himself like he did yesterday evening. In no time while we watched TV and had salmon toast I saw him stealing a slice of salmon on Mr. G's plate and ran away to eat it somewhere in peace.

But as soon as the sun came out I found him in the front of the house taking a sunbath.

Pookie's life doesn't change with the weather, she sleeps, eats, plays and purrs and Kim again is invisible.

With storm and rain outside but 11 °C (57 F) my cats seem to have taken sleeping pills and lay around everywhere, although mostly on beds and interrupt this hard work only for eating or natural needs.

Except one ! Rosie has her working time one hour in the morning and one in the evening, before she also collapses on a bed or in a basket.

Her mouse was on the top of the sofa, so she pushed it down and tried to tidy up by carrying the mouse into my plate, but after a while she gave up.

She also discovered the bath tube, she had never been in there. She sat on the top and was mulling over if she should jump in or not, which took her quiet some time, but as I had thrown her mouse in the bath, she finally decided to jump in and then she rumbled in the bath for a while.

Arthur is not difficult at all by choosing a bed, as long as it is a bed, he is not that easy when it comes to food. As there are no people in the street, he prefers to sleep and wait until this boring time is over.

Even Kim has enough of the rain and sleeps inside, she loves to sleep in company, but not with a human ! Then she runs away !

New Year's Eve may be fun for humans but certainly not for cats, except the good food ! Instead of being 6 people we were only 3, because the others had a cold and had to stay home. This wasn't important at all to Arthur and Pookie who, thanks to Mr. G's good education methods were turning around the table and intended several times to even jump and nibble in the plates. Of course my friend who is a cat fan too, gave them a bit of salmon and Mr. G. too, only I was hard hearted !

Arthur with his usual charm when it comes to guests, made Nicole fall in love with him, while Pookie enjoyed being petted all the time.

He spent the whole evening (after the salmon of course) behind the CD's and DVD's and groomed and slept there peacefully.

When the fireworks started at midnight, he continued and stayed cool like James Bond in all situations,

while Kim fearing an earthquake hid under Mr. G's bed

and Pookie under my desk. But when she saw me coming with the camera, she came out and thought the worst is over.

Now the days have turned into normal, which means that

Pookie follows Mr. G. everywhere and watches over him even in very private places,

Rosie tidies up the Living room and throws her mousies in the air,

and Kim makes her usual walks and just came back for lunch.

I hope you all didn't suffer too much because of the crazy humans and that nobody ran away !

I had put my backpack open on the floor, and when I came back it was squatted by Rosie !

I doubt very much that she wants to come with us and driving in the car to Amsterdam to celebrate Christmas there.

The last evening before we left, Pookie had found a new occupation, she sits on my lap and plays with her tail. Of course I got her sharp claws in my legs ! It looked so funny when she tried to catch it and bite in it. I watched more Pookie than the News, anyway they are always the same.

Arthur has discovered chocolate cookies and steals them from the plate on the table. I wondered what he was eating there when I saw that it was a cookie and the carpet was already full of crumbs. I had never heard of cats eating cookies with chocolate, and wonder why he does it now, he never did that before. Has anybody cookie eating cat experience ?

On Christmas day we arrived at noon

and had a first glance on the Christmas tree. The gifts were put late evening, because it would have been a too big temptation for one year old grandson Toby.

Mr. G. for a change doesn't play with his cats but with his grandson. We loved his little pajama with a bow tie he was wearing on Christmas morning.

When we came back in the afternoon, we thought we would find very sad and hungry cats.

Instead, we found these two still lives, which didn't even open an eye to greet us, they had celebrated Christmas with my neighbor who took care of all our cats since the 35 years we live here. Our cats know it because as soon as our car has disappeared Arthur and Pookie are sitting at her front door, performing starving cats. She lives just across the street !

My dear cats continue their bad weather sleep, or maybe they went into hibernation.

Rosie always ready to check what I am doing or have done, was looking at the Christmas cards I had printed out, just to put them in my neighbor's mailbox. Probably Sir Arthur will escort me from box to box ! He knows the houses better than I do !

From time to time they look at each other, "to play or not to play ?"

with this result. Arthur needs a lot of beauty sleep, on the bed

or on the heating. The cat figure serves him as pillow.

I took a painting from a classmate home from an exhibition, which she wanted to pick up later, of course Pookie made the art critic by sniffing at the picture. Afterwards I have been told that my friend has also a cat and the painting probably smelled "cat" !

When she is not busy with sleeping, she watches over our bathroom rituals.

A miracle happened ! Kim who was outside since spring, and only came in during night for food finally decided to sleep at home again. First she slept on a doormat in the garage, refusing to use a comfortable basket I had put there for her, then she slept for a while on the kitchen table but run away each time we entered the kitchen, now she has decided to behave like a normal cat and squats Mr. G's bed every day. She even allows us to pet her ! I hope I can catch her and bring her to the groomer, because the poor thing is full of knots again. I wonder if autistic cats exists. She is not stupid at all, I would rather say very intelligent, but her comportment is really strange.

At this time of the year my cats activities are really reduced to a minimum if ever this is possible !

After having cared for Mr. G. when he had his flu, Arthur takes care now of his digestion and waits patiently at the door, to check if everything is OK.

Then he returns to his most tiring activity choosing a place to nap, which is very difficult for him and demands a lot of effort.

and when he doesn't sleep he has his head in the food bowl. Since he had his stomac troubles he now eats like a horse, fortunately he loves the food I buy now which is half of the price than the famous "Hills" food !

Rosie each morning runs through the house and and puts the rugs her way, which is not necessarily mine. When Arthur is too lazy to play, she also starts her daily nap, after having messed up the whole house (or nearly).

Pookie freed of her nurse job, is not so happy about this thing standing at the entrance.

I thought if my cats are already so lazy, they could at least model for Christmas cards, to earn their food. Of course they were not always cooperative !

Finally I managed to take one quiet nice picture with Rosie before she ran away.

Since yesterday Rosie has a nice job again, as I have catched Mr. G's cold (he is very generous in giving) and she took the nurse job over and stays with me in bed. But if you think she would bring me a tissu for my running nose, then you are wrong !

After the 4 injections I had given to Rosie every day without any problem I may add, she started to walk on 4 paws again, but not for long and I had to go back to the vet last wednesday. Apparently she had been bitten in her leg by dear Pookie, the wound was healed but it still hurt when she put her paw down. So I got another 4 syringes with a painkiller, one each day.

Coming back from the vet, Rosie felt exhausted !

and meauwed her miseries to Arthur, who as usual fell asleep

Now she is without pain and walks normally, unfortunately she also scratches on the furniture again, which in one sense is a good sign. (Not for our chairs)

As Mr. G. was still in bed the whole week, he was taken care of by nurses Pookie and Arthur who enjoyed his cold very much. Today unfortunately for them, he is up and gone out so the cosy days are over.

she rumbled around in the tube, enjoying her hunt, and then ate it ! You can see the satisfaction on her face. And I have one spider less in the house.

All these events don't bother Arthur, as it is cold and rainy outside he prefers to hear the angels singing.

The whole day I was looking for Arthur in the house, basement and outside ! He were nowhere ! Mr. G. joined in and we both started a thorough investigation.

and finally found him where we never had expected ! He was sleeping peacefully in Rosie's

cat tree where he never had put a paw and we have this thing since 4 years ! He was so lazy that he even didn't come out for food and ate hers which was just standing in front of his nose !

I noticed on Monday evening last week, that poor little Rosie walked on 3 paws. Next day I took her to the vet. She said that a claw was sore in her paw and gave her a shot. Then the big question was how to give her a pill for four days ! Rosie doesn't eat anything but her dry food and even the pill diluted with water and put in a syringe wouldn't work because she spits it out. So I asked the vet if I could give her the shots instead of coming back every day. Of course she said if you are not afraid of syringes and I am not.

For four days Mr. G. picked her up, and held her while I lifted the fur and shot ! She was a little surprised by this daily treatment and watched us with suspicious eyes when we approached, but otherwise it went smoothly and without problems.

Unfortunately now after 4 days she still walks on 3 paws, the leg is not swollen anymore and I can't see anything at her paw. She behaves like usual, eats and goes out but everything on 3 paws, so this evening I have to go back to the vet to see if there isn't something else.

Pookie is happy that Mr. G. has a cold and spends most of his time in his bed caughing and sneezing. Therefore she decided to take over the job of a nurse, calls herself "Nurse Pookie" and takes care of him.

Arthur having enough of being squeezed in the cat house decided to move also into the bed. Now they are three !

As I only came back from Egypt on Thursday night and had to prepare the next day our trip to Amsterdam for the weekend to celebrate the first birthday of our grandson Toby, I don't have a lot to tell about my little darlings except to show you how I have to change the bedsheets with a not moving Arthur ! That's a story in itself !

Arthur sleeps peacefully on Mr. G's bed

to take the cover off the quilt, I lifted him up and put him on the bedsheet. He only moves a little. But then he really woke up, jumped onto the window sill

and looked from outside what I am going to do wondering probably why I had put the whole bed equipment on the sill.

Stubborn, he decided to jump back on the bed

and sat on the old sheet,

decided not to move and started a new nap

Again I had to lift him up, took the sheets away and put him back on the matress where he decided to continue to sleep.

I prepared a new bought sheet, took it out of the package and tried to spread it over the matress

He slept.

I started to pull over the new sheet. Arthur didn't move
I pulled further, Arthur slept.

Finally I lifted him up and put him down, while I tried to pull the red sheet over the matress.

Arthur behaved like a potatoe bag. I had to lift him up again, put him at the end of the bed and finally managed to get the red sheet in place. Arthur, pretending to wake up, immediately moved on the fresh sheet.

Finally moving him from left to right and up and down, the bed was finally made

Now he was thinking if he should sleep on the bed quilt or on the cover

He decided for the quilt and the cover remained untouched.

Result, Arthur was happy again, continued his favorite occupation and I was exhausted from lifting him up and down and moving him around.

Now I am ready to go on Holidays again !

only Rosie is zen and read her Yoga book, but sometimes she runs after Pookie or tries to take her place in Mr. G's bed, which provoke fights and he has to interfere !

Of course, this isn't something that would necessarily be welcomed by, or safe for our cats, either. Getting plenty of daily exercise is important for your cats but they need to have the opportunity to rest when they want. If you are concerned about your pussy's weight, seek the advice of your vet or a pet specialist, who can offer you guidance on the recommended calorie intake of you pet and tips to keep him/her fit and purring.

Nearly eight in ten feline owners agree that obesity in our cats is a growing problem, so let's make a stand and make sure that our companions are kept trim and, most importantly, happy !

This time I have a rather sad story to tell, fortunately with a very happy end. My friend Ilona walking through the woods was approached by a man with a dog running after a couple who had just left a cage with two white cats on the path in the woods.

He couldn't take the cats because of the dogs, so Ilona took the cage and then they both scolded with the people. Unfortunately they didn't think of calling the police. Ilona carried the cage with the two cats home and raked her brain to find a solution for them.

She couldn't keep them, because she has already a cat and she had not enough room for 3 cats. She didn't want to separate them either because they were cuddled together and it was obvious that they had been together ever since. She didn't want to take them to an animal shelter either, and tried to find them a home. She called me, I told her I will help to find somebody. She called her sister and her son, but both couldn't take them either. Finally her neighbor told her that in her street was a real "cat lady" living.

She walked over and came back with the lady who wanted to see them.

As they found out later these are two boys, around 7 months old and recently spayed, not more then two weeks ! This one looks like Arthur and has also yellow eyes. I think he is now called Max.

The other one same size has blue eyes. They both looked very healthy and well looked after. The cat lady without hesitation took them home, and the same evening her husband went with them to the vet. That's why they knew how old they were and in which health. She had already rescued 7 cats and with these two now she has 9. The one with the blue eyes is now called Snoopy.

It's still a mistery why these cats had been abandonned !

The whole house is adapted to make cats happy ! A huge cat tree sits in the living room and little Max looked at me. After one day, they already felt home. The cat lady was so adorable and let me take pictures, offered coffee and showed us around.

This cat is not Arthur either, but she had already a grown up white cat as friendly as Arthur !

and another one on the oven. Apparently the lady and her husband's hobby are cats and everything in the house is for cats. We were so happy for them Ilona and I, that they had found such a good home, almost a cat paradise !

At home I had again troubles with my Arthur. He didn't eat again. I tried to find out what he could have eaten, but saw really nothing. Suddenly I remembered that I had put Frontline on his neck, against flees. Maybe it was that ? Because he didn't eat anymore last time too. I asked the vet and she said that it is possible that he got it in his mouth by leaking his collar.

So we went to the vet and he got a shot again. As last time he refused to get out of his cage and she had to give him the shot through the grids.

In the car I let him free, he loves to ride !

and the next morning he ate like a horse again !

I needed a picture with perls and asked Pookie and Rosie to model. Here is the result !

Since quiet a long time Rosie hadn't put her mousies in the food or water bowls, she didn't play with them either, I think she had decided that it was mousies' summer holidays.

But now she opened her hunting season again and twice I found a real mouse corpse once in the commun water bowl and once in Pookie's food. Both times I burried them without flowers in the toilet and flushed. Maybe I should have shown more respect to the poor creatures.

I still can't believe that behind this angel like looking cat a terrible killer girl is hidden !

Arthur doesn't care and for a while kept her company on my bed during the nights.

Now he has changed and moved over to Mr. G and Pookie. Now it's a snoring trio.

He also loves to control our hygiene by sitting in the bathtube (when Pookie is not in there to chase her tail) and observing us. He also shows us how to wash !

Pookie suddenly is very active in the mornings, she runs around as if the devil would chase her, turns over all rags and doormats and hides pencils and ball pens under them. No wonder that I am looking for a writing instrument the whole day.

Kim finally had decided that now it's too cool outside during nights and moved in again. Unfortunately she has chosen the kitchen table as sleeping place and there is nothing to do each night she sleeps there and when I come into the kitchen in the morning she jumps down and hides in the basement ! Yesterday I heard rumbling in my wardrobe, suddenly the door was pushed open and a black arrow dashed out, while I was peacefully sitting on my chair at my computer ! My poor heart ! Living with cats is dangerous !

P.S. just found another real mousie in Pookie's food bowl ! Another funeral, this time in the bin !
