Living in the desert is no joke. We have to deal with heat, sand, lizards and snakes. It has been quite a change from the cold Northeast but it does have its advantages. It does get cold here but it rarely freezes. When it does get cold however, it doesn't last for too long.. There is also many golf courses around our area and they are fairly cheap to play on. My golf game has much improved since we moved. I guess most of the improvement is due to the fact that I have much more time to play now. My wife and I recently purchased an ADT Yuma security system. After all I have to protect my expensive clubs. I think the new clubs that I bought have really helped my golf game as well. It is amazing how much better you can do something when you have the right tools. These clubs are an important item that I have to keep safe. I always have to remind myself to stay hydrated when I am out golfing, the heat will suck all of the moisture out of you before you realize it.

Downton Abbey

I fell in love with Downton Abbey in Season 1 and Season 2 has just got better and better! readers have fallen in love with this family and their circle of friends. I love to skip watching for the first few weeks till I have about 3 or 4 episodes on my tv or computer to watch at once. Then I grab a blanket and a snack and sit back to relax and enjoy. In my mind Downton Abbey highlights some of the very best in British Drama and is a classic already.

Have not been online line to really blog in a while. Lydia has been keeping me very busy now that she is walking and bothering everything she can get her hands on :) She should be playing with her toys but she rather bother my computer, the tv, or objects that are not made for little hands.

Just bought a play gate for her so I am hoping that will keep her safe and happy and free me up from running behind her so much. I'll let you know in a few days how it goes. :)

We just signed a lease on a new apartment. It’s much closer to my work, and the kids school. We will be moving in at the beginning of February, which is right in the middle of cold season here. I’m a little worried about not having a fireplace. We use our fireplace that we currently have almost every night. It’s kinda become a tradition for us, and I’m trying to imagine not having one. I don’t picture the living room feeling as “homey,” you know? I joked with my husband that we are going to have to go to expertsatellite.com and get that channel that has the pretend fire burning on it! I think it is called the Yule Log or something. I was kidding, but also kinda serious. I’ve had a fireplace in my house my entire life, even when I was a kid. The apartment is perfect in every way- good price, pool, nice part of town, 3 bedroom, closer to school and work. It just doesn’t have a fireplace. I guess you can’t have it all

Sprucing up our home with a little bit of fall fun

There are all kinds of things that I worry about when it comes to our house. We have a toddler that gets into everything, so no matter what I put in my home, I need to put it somewhere where he can't really get into it. So I think about that kind of stuff constantly. It's even changed the way that we decorate our home.

Right now I'm decorating our home for the season and I went online with our clear 4g internet to figure out some ideas about how to easily decorate without worrying about our son getting into everything.

I got all types of ideas. I thought that it would be really fun to make a wreath for our front door. It will be high enough where he won't be able to reach it, which I think will be my main strategy in decorating our home for the new few years. I also found some really cute window decals that I'm going to put on the sliding glass door to our back porch. He'll be able to enjoy them without getting to them.

Wants, Needs and Being Rich

When someone says they are rich or well off the first things that come to my mind are big homes, nice cars and high fashion clothing. Recently however my ideas have changed somewhat to include another image as well. Its the image of a person who has money because they don't spend it freely. That image also includes the person who dresses nice but who's clothing is anything but high fashion. I think one of the best books on this subject is by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley called "Stop Acting Rich: And Start Living like a Real Millionaire" a must read!

Today people are so busy wanting to look and be rich even at the risk of not really being rich or enjoying life at all. We think that being rich mean you through your money around when in fact there are many rich people who probably live a more modest life style than your average middle class American.

I recently asked my husband if we had more money what exactly would we do with it? After thinking of basic things we wanted to do to our home and the thought of buying a new car we sat quite for a moment and realized that most of the things we would do would be simply for entertainment purposes not actual needs. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with spending money on wants. One of my big wants is to travel once baby Lydia is old enough to go along. I want to have a chance to see what life is like outside of this country and meet new people. I think its a good thing and its a want I plan to take care of one day soon, but it is still a want not a need. I our world we have made wants needs and we are finding it harder and harder to tell ourselves the truth about which is a real need and what is a want.

Why do we always feel like we need more? Well I believe that we are naturally tuned to want more and media plays on that, they have to that's how companies make money. Its not all bad, I mean a good salesman has to make you want something in order for you to buy it that's his job and so long as he is really helping you he is doing a good job.

Here is when it becomes wrong is when you don't need or want something and you let yourself feel incomplete or worthless without that item. You feel like you will be happy if you have this or that new thing. 3 to 6 months latter when the trend or fashion has changed you again feel you are not good enough or you are behind and unhappy.

This is the type of culture that we have come to make for ourselves. I believe in looking nice and finding a fashion that works for you but I don't believe in becoming a slave to fashion or what our world has come to think success is.

Instead of thinking about how you can have more money to spend stop and ask yourself, "Do I really need this? How important is it really? What if I saved this instead of spending it?
