Today I made the switch. I went from being a PC user to becoming a Mac user. I went and make the jump to an iMac. I definately can see that this will be a learning process. So far I like what I see.

The Peter Principle and Fear

At my church, SouthGate, we are reading and discussing the book 'Tribes', by Seth Godin. Today we discussed "The Peter Principle" found on page 44.

This principle was proposed by Dr. Laurence Peter. He stated;

in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.

Seth Godin paraphrases it this way;

in every organization everyone rises to the level at which they become paralyzed with fear

He goes on to say;

The essence of leadership is being aware of your fear (and seeing it in the people you wish to lead). No, it won't go away, but awareness is the key to making progress.

A couple of pages over on page 46 he talks how fear is overrated. Two points he says that stand out to me are;

What people are afraid of isn't failure. It's blame. Criticism.

We chose not to be remarkable because we are worried about criticism.

When I think about stepping up and out in the midst of our fears, I think of the movie Braveheart, in particular this quote from William Wallace;

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

When I relate this to my life, I think of it in these terms.

Step out and and take the lead, take that promotion with more responsibility and yes, you may fail, you may get mocked and ridiculed... Pass it up and you will be safe from that....at least for a little while. And sitting back in your retirement years, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and take that lead role, to become the leader that you were meant to be, and to tell your enemy (fear) that yes, I may fail, I may get mocked,others may ridicule me, but I am a leader and that, you can not take away from me!

As we were going over this topic this morning that particular scene in the movie kept running through my head.

Talk about fear, men leading others into battle, I mean real life and death battle. But yet, they have to overcome that fear, they have to instill in their men the ability to overcome their own fear. Their fear is legitimate, they could die. We are not just talking about fear of rejection, or be ridiculed because we made a bad decision.

So, for me, I can take that step, yes I still have fear that I may fail, but I will still be alive to try again. You may ridicule me for a decision, but I still have the opportunity to correct it and make it work.

So with that, I am going to step up and take the lead, I am going to be a leader when I see that one is needed or that it will help the tribe.

I do not know why, but I am in a really bad slump right now. I feel very dry, down and depressed. Nothing seems to help. My insides feel like they just want to split me open. Depression medication does not seem to be doing the trick. Nor does writing about it. So I am out.

I sat down today to put to paper my goals for 2009. As I was putting my goals down I realized that they fell into a few different categories. They are; Personal, Family, Faith or Spiritual Relationship, Household,and Health. I am still working on them, so what I have here I may expound on. As I list them here, they are in no particular order. Here is what I have so far.

Personal
Read more books (min.1 per month)
Post on both of my blogs on a consistent basis (min. 1x per week)
Get a new Job!

Family
Spend more quality time with my wife Jin
Photograph,Photograph,Photograph,Photograph Jedidiah

Household
Replace carpet throughout house
Get back yard back into Better Homes and Garden shape

Health
Lose weight (down to 200 lbs) (47 lbs)
Eat healthier foods
Eliminate Caffeine
Begin running consistently again
Run at least 1 half marathon (Sunburst)(more if I can get back to that level soon)

Take a look at this baby
I wanted a pocket camera to have with me all the time. I was not trying to replace my professional cameras,but wanted something (1) less expensive to carry around and not worry about it as much. Computer Problems Galore

Well, it has happened, my desktop is down for the count. After many days of struggling and trying to figure out what is wrong, it down for good. I am thinking of taking it in to see if it is an easy fix that would be inexpensive, or if it is time to by a new desktop.

Many I have spoken to about the crash of my pc have to me to buy a MAC. I have asked for the benefits in some detail but have yet to get any that would convince me to put my money into a MAC.

Not, that I am opposed. I just am not as familiar with MAC as I am with the brand names of the pcs.

So, for now I am on the laptop and of course the good ol' Blackbery.

What Is Planned Parenthood Teaching? (Warning: Mature Subject Matter)

Visit there website and you may be surprised and appalled as was I.
I actually have never visited Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) or any other Planned Parenthood (PP) before, nor did I ever have the desire to do so. That was until I read this blog post from Leaningright. In this post the author discloses that PPIN is offering gift certificates for your choice of birth control.

I was appalled by this idea and wanted to know more so I visited PPIN' website. After looking through the site I noticed the tab "birth control", so I clicked on the link to see what they may be offering for the gift certificate. I seen a term call "outercourse", I wanted to see what they called this form of birth control. Again, let me say I was appalled. One particular statement stuck out. It reads:

Advantages for Teens

Outercourse can completely satisfy both partners and take a lot of pressure off young women and men. Outercourse helps partners learn about their bodies and how to give themselves and each other sexual pleasure.

PPIN is promoting sexual relations between teens! Oh the argument exists, "They are going to have sex anyway, so lets tell them how." Give me a break. How about teaching them abstinence! How about teaching them to wait until they are married!

Reading further into this type of "birth control" they continued to be even more appalling.

They go on and to explain the different methods for outercourse.

How Do I Have Outercourse?
There are many ways to be sexual without intercourse:

Kissing — Many people explore different ways of kissing. They may also explore kissing different body parts.

Masturbation — Many people enjoy touching their own sex organs. It's the most common way to be sexual. Partners can masturbate alone or together. They may hug and kiss while they do it. They can also watch each other — which can be exciting and a good way to learn what kind of touch a partner likes.

Manual Stimulation — Many couples fondle each other's sex organs using their hands. Some also use their bodies or mouths.

Body-to-body rubbing — frottage, "grinding," or "dry humping" — Many couples rub their bodies together — especially their sex organs — for pleasure and orgasm.

Fantasy — Couples can read or watch sexy stories or pictures together. They can also share or act out sexy fantasies. People do it in person, on the phone or Internet, or through e-mail or instant messaging. (Using online technology for sex is called cybersex.)

Sex Toys — These include vibrators and dildos. Toys can be used to explore and caress the body. Condoms can be used on toys that go into the vagina or anus. Condoms need to be used if partners want to share the same toy. Use a new condom for each partner — and for each part of the body. Sex toys need to be cleaned — different toys have different cleaning instructions.

Oral Sex Play — Many people like to use their mouths on each other's sex organs. Oral sex on a woman is called "cunnilingus." On a man it's called "fellatio." It cannot cause pregnancy. But it can pass infection. Using a barrier can reduce the risks. Condoms that have been cut open, Sheer Glyde dams, dental dams, and plastic wrap make good barriers for oral sex on a woman. Condoms make good barriers for oral sex on a man. Many people use latex or plastic barriers that are non-lubricated or flavored for oral sex.

Anal Sex Play — Many people enjoy anal sex play. Partners can explore each other's buttocks, anus, and rectum with their hands, mouths, sex organs, or with toys. Anal sex play cannot cause pregnancy — but it can easily pass infection. Using a latex or plastic barrier can reduce the risks. Using lubrication can make it more comfortable.

This is what our children are being taught by PPIN and I am sure by PP as I do not believe one is separate for the other.

Not only are they promoting sexual acts, but are encouraging our teenagers to watch and look at pornography! Are you for real????
They are encouraging phone sex and cyber sex. Encouraging teens to use technology to help stimulate one another.

They do give "advantages" and "disadvantages" to "outercourse" and the desire for intercourse is stated as a disadvantage But come on, what do you expect? With all the sexual tension being built by this so called "outercourse type of birth control", you honestly think that teenagers will have the discipline to refrain?

I think teaching to to avoid such tension building acts would be a better avenue to travel down. But hey, what do I know? I am just a common, average citizen, who has not has the extensive training that those in PPIN and PP have had.

Black Friday, What The Heck!

Black Friday, we all know what it is all about. People getting up very early in the morning to get to the store so they can get in on the great deals. But I ask, are the deals so great that you are willing to risk your life over them?

This year has been no different then years past. As soon as Black Friday had started the news channels were filming the mayhem. They began reporting on the injuries, the deaths.

One such report from NY Daily News tells of a Wal* Mart employee being trampled to death by the rushing crowds just as the doors were opened. The crowd in such a hurry to find that "deal" knocked this man down, and ran over him. Reports even state that you could hear people laughing about him laying there and getting trampled. I ask these people, was your material item worth this
mans life?

A shooting that took the life of two men in a Palms Desert, Ca. Toys R Us store has been reported as an ongoing dispute between two parties.
Question: If this was an on going dispute, why bring it to a toy store on such a day as Black Friday? The store is filled with hundreds of parents and children shopping for toys.

I have never and will never be caught in thus ridiculous ritual. I in fact believe that with the continuance of injuries and deaths each year, that this type of event should be stopped.

Discouraged, Disheartened, Distracted?

With the current events surrounding the election our next president, I have been distracted, discouraged, and disheartened. I was totally focused on the results of the election. My head was spinning, my pulse was racing, my head hurt, my body hurt. I was fearful of what the future now held for us, my family, my friends, Our Country.

I voiced my concerns with friends. My wife, local friends, and those on Facebook and Twitter. I am blessed to have friends who share my faith. Friends who help when I am distracted, discouraged, and disheartened. On several occasions they reminded me that God was in control. That it is He that I should be focused on and not the events of this.

As I reflected on what my dear friends had told me, I was reminded of the old hymn, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus". I have always loved this hymn, and especially like the rendition that the Newsboys made.

I came home today and searched YouTube for this rendition. I needed to hear it sung. Although I had been singing the hymn all day in my head, I needed to hear it played.

Below is the video that I pulled off Youtube, I encourage you to take the time and watch it. Listen to the words, even though you may already know them, listen, let the words resonate in your spirit, and most importantly turn your eyes upon Jesus, in bad times, but also in good times.

Thank you to my dear friends who reminded me of this. God is in control. No matter who is president, God still reigns and no a thing can change that.

With the election now just a day away, the people of the United States will be making a crucial choice. One of the effects of that choice will be, whether it is decided that it is now open season on the unborn or whether these precious, precious little ones will be protected. I plead and pray that we as a nation will not let these little ones be murdered. God help us if we fail.

Obama believes that getting pregnant after willingly having sex, that you should if you choose, have the right to abort that "mistake", so as not to "punish" you with a baby.

If I willingly touch a hot burner with my hand, should I then cut off my hand so I will not have to be punished with the blisters and the pain of that burn?

Aborting a baby makes as much sense as cutting off your hand!
