DIY Fondant Engagement Ring Cupcake Toppers. {DIY Monday}

Engagement Ring Cupcake Toppers

Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring Cupcake Toppers

Valentine's Day is tomorrow and lots of men will be popping the question. These engagement ring cupcakes will be perfect for the upcoming engagement party. I did not make these cupcakes, but I did help make these Fondant Engagement Ring Cupcake Toppers.

You Will Need:

Fondant

Paint Brush

Wilton's Yellow Pearl Dust

Wilton's Silver Pearl Dust

Engagement Ring Candy Mold

Baking Spray

Exacto Knife

Clear Vanilla Extra or Lemon Juice

Cupcakes

DIY Steps:

Knead a small piece of fondant with your hands until it's soft and pliable. Just enough fondant to fit inside your engagement ring candy mold.
Very lightly spray the engagement ring candy mold with baking spray.
Press your fondant inside the candy mold.
Slowly remove fondant from the candy mold.
Cut the excess fondant from your fondant engagement ring with the exacto knife.
Mix a few drops of lemon juice with the silver pearl dust and paint it on the fondant engagement ring.
Mix a few drops of lemon juice with the yellow pearl dust and paint it on the diamond part of the engagement ring. (we mixed yellow and white pearl dust together so it was just a hint of yellow)
Add a few coats of pearl dust if needed.
Let dry overnight and add it to baked and frosted cupcakes.

This cake was made to match the Jungle Jill Baby Bedding from the baby stores. It is an 8" round cake with buttercream icing and animal print fondant decorations. Topped with a cute Monkey and Giraffe.

The Monkey is made from fondant and the Giraffe is a rice krispie treat shape as a giraffe and covered in fondant. I love how the Giraffe turned out :)

Kids Edible Craft. Valentine Candy Melts.

Valentine's Day Lip Candy

{Tutorial Thursday}

My daughter and I made some candy lip suckers today just for fun. It was a great craft that my 6-year-old could handle and loved to do. This is a must try for you and your kids.

You Will Need:

Change it up however you want.

I used...

Red Candy Melts

XOXO & Lip Candy Mold

Plastic Sucker Sticks

Make N Mold Bottle

DIY Steps:

Fill your Make N Mold Bottle 3/4 full with Candy Melts.
Melt in Microwave following the instructions. I did 30 sec intervals.
Squeeze bottle and mix candy
Repeat until the candy melts smoothly
Place lid on bottle and squeeze candy into molds (let the kids do this)
Tap molds softly on counter tops to level the candy
Place in fridge until it hards
Pop out candies from mold (let the kids to this)
Add a sucker stick by placing a small dab of melted candy to the back on the stick. Let the candy harded to hold the stick in place.

Dont forget to tap it on the counter to level it out and to pop any air bubbles.

So, I am a huge fan of these candy cards for Valentine's Day. I'm sure you've seen them around online and pinterest. If you haven't seen them here are my 3 favorites....

This is something different then the sucker idea and I love from Craftomaniac.

Muah. Just doesn't get any cuter than this! The kids would love to make their own suckers for their friends with candy melts and candy molds. This is from Funky Polka Dot Giraffe.

What are your creative ideas to switch it up?

I have a few but do not know if it would be cute. Maybe, I can have Madison smelling a candy rose? Or, turning Madison's hair bow into a small piece of candy?

The story:

Last week my family was all sick from Saturday to Wednesday. It was a horrible week. On Wednesday February 1st we had cabin fever and needed to get out of the house. The kids and I went to eat lunch with my husband at his work. An hour later I came home to my front door and back door wide open. Everything of value was gone. We had been robbed! Not only did they steal everything of value (tvs from the rooms, xbox, games, computer, laptop, Supplies for my business etc..) they had went through every draw in the house and even tried to take my dogs. I think the only reason they did not take the dogs was because the dogs would not stop barking and they didn't want to risk attention being on them when they walked out of the house. I found my dogs crate in the middle of the living room when it was in the very back of the house.

I was already behind on orders being sick then I had to deal with cops and figure out how to run an online business with no computer or internet. On top of that I had 4 cakes to prepare for for the upcoming weekend. Wow was it stressful. I couldn't even reflect on the robbery due to all the chaos until this weekend. It's a pretty creepy feeling knowing someone has been in your house.

The good news:

My neighbors have security cameras and caught it all on tape :)

The people who robbed my house waited down the street. As soon as I pulled out of my drive-way they pulled in (how did I not see?). They knocked on the door, then went to the back of the house and broke down my back door. They stayed inside my house for 40 minutes. YES... 40 MINUTES!!! CREEPY!!!!!! The cops now have the video. Please, pray they get caught. Not to get my stuff back, because I know it's long gone, but pray they get caught so no other family is robbed at their hands.

This robbery has inspired me to find a cute sign for my house. Maybe something like these security signs I found on Etsy.

I really like the way it turned out. Once I started adding the heart garland it looked like a little birds nest. I added two little love birds and broke up the heart garland with some red tulle.

To make this cake use a 8" round cake and hand carve the Hello Kitty head shape. Or you can use a template and follow the template.

DIY Prepare 39 Meals in a Day. {Guest Blogger} Austin TX Mom

My friend Lacey has a great blog with lots of great dinner ideas. Since, I lack in the department of cooking here is Lacey with a great creative post on family dinners.

7 Hours, $154, and 39 Dinners.

Those are the final numbers from my dinner making experiment, and I've got to say, I'm happy with that! That comes down to $3.94 a meal(each meal will serve 4 people). Being that this is my first try, I think that is pretty good!

I strayed from the menu I came up with yesterday, simply because some recipes didn't make as much...or I found something in the cabinet that I decided to make instead.

Here is what I ended up with:

1 large package of shredded chicken

3 pans of meatloaf (we actually had one last night. Delicious)

2 pans of San Francisco Pork Chops

2 packages of Chicken Teriyaki

2 packages of taco meat

3 packages of spaghetti and meat sauce

1 package of Beef Stroganoff

2 packages of Sloppy Joes

2 pans of Macaroni and Cheese

2 pans of Baked Chicken Penne w/ Sundried Tomatoes

2 pans of Chicken Enchiladas

2 packages of mashed potatoes

4 packages of sauteed green beans

2 pans of Mushroom Lasagna

2 packages of meatballs

2 packages of shredded pork

7 packages of garlic bread

2 pots of Chicken and Dumplings

2 packages of marinated steak

I still have stuff to make 2 more pots of Chicken Tortilla Soup, but I ran out of chicken broth!

Some tips that I would definitely recommend in undertaking something like this:

1. Clean out your refrigerator and freezer before you start! You are going to need every ounce of space you have.

2. Make a prep station before you start cooking. Chop up all of your veggies and keep them on hand, so you can use them in the recipes as you go. This saves you tons of time.

3. Cook all the meat first, unless it's something like meatloaf or something going in a marinade that you won't cook until you serve it.

4. Buy the chicken pre-cooked. You can get the same amount of chicken out of a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store than you can a whole fryer that you have to prep and cook, and usually for less money or the same price. Another huge time saver. You can also take the bones and make a chicken stock.

5. Keep your kitchen free of distractions. This is a marathon cooking session. One day of hard work is going to pay off big time and give you lots of extra time in the next few weeks.

6. Buy disposable pans. It will keep your serving sizes where you want them, and you'll have use of your pans in the meantime.

7. Don't be afraid of the sales at the grocery store. It's all going in the freezer that day anyway. This is where you are really going to save. Look for the manager's specials. You'll be amazed how much you will save.

8. Keep a glass of wine on hand at all times. :) This is just to keep your stress level down and keep it fun!

Tutorial: DIY Hair Bow Centerpiece made out of fabric

Tutorials

Do you have left over fabric scraps that you do not know what to do with? Lets make a bow centerpiece.

Supplies:

You will need:

Fabric Scrap

Grosgrain Ribbon

Heat N Bond

Plastic Bottlecap (optional)

Scissors

Lighter

Pen

Iron

Tutorial:

Iron your Heat N Bond to the back side of your fabric.

Place your plastic bottle cap (I used a water bottle cap) over the image you want and trace it with your pen.

Cut out circles

Peel off the heat n bond paper backing from your fabric.

Iron your fabric circle cutouts to your grosgrain ribbon.

Cut around your fabric leaving a ribbon trim. Then, heat seal the ends of your ribbon until it curls up right next to your fabric.

This is what it will look like when you are half way done heating your ribbon.

Once the ribbon cools down it's almost like a hard plastic.

Glue your new centerpiece to your favorite bow :)

Like today I said "oh man, I gotta take the backroads again." and Madison said "Why can't you take the front roads?" lol. That went into the book.

For my baby shower for Jaxson we went with a Brown and Blue Modern Baby theme.

We had the Modern Baby plates, napkins, chocolate candy wrappers, labels, & Plush Baby Rattles.

The Diaper and Party Favor Table

A great idea: send a note with your invation saying "Bring a bag of diapers and get your name in a drawing to win a $25 gift card". See how many bag of diapers you will get and it will only cost you $25. Many stores will let you trade out the diapers if you do not get the size/brand you want.

We gave out a $25.00 gift card to The Olive Garden. Every new mom needs plenty of diapers.

I made the favor boxes myself using brown and blue cardstock. Secure with a cute ribbon and slap on a matching label. Place your favor boxes on a cupcake stand for a perfect table centerpiece. Tutorial coming soon :)

The Cake Table

It's not a very good picture, but on the right side of this picture is another little Plush Baby sitting in a glass bowl of chocolate candy and blue mints. The candy is wrapped in a Modern Baby Candy Wrapper. The vases are filled with blue glass beads and blue flowers.

The Cake...

The Modern Baby Shower Cake was a simple one tier cake with blue & brown cupcakes. I made the little modern baby out of fondant and black frosting. Read more about the cake here.

The Invitations...

Handmade Brown and Blue Baby Shower invitations made out of cardstock, scrapbook paper, and ribbon. Three presents stacked on top of each other.

The Banner above the cake table..

Another easy diy idea is to make your own banner.

Print out "It's A boy" on white cardstock and cut out. I boxed each letter (before you print) so it was not so plain. Then, tie a 6" piece of ribbon in a single not and glue it above each letter. Finally, just glue a long piece of ribbon to the back of each letter to hang or use a hole punch and thread the ribbon through each hole. Hang up with clear push pins or tape.

The Baby Clothes Line...

Simple and Easy. Great for any baby shower. Just clip your favorite baby clothes to ribbon.

PRIZE BOXES...

This doesn't have the right label on it, but I made these boxes (with the Modern Baby Labels) for the prize gifts. When someone won a game they got these cute boxes. They're bigger than the goody boxes. These were filled up with items from Bath and Body Works. Learn how to make your own paper bow here.

Other Baby Shower Ideas....

Instead of having a "Gift Table" use your new baby crib :)

Make little candies to match your decor using colored candy melts and baby shower candy molds. The kids will love them!

Hang your balloons upside down. Just use a clear push pin. Hang a cute paper mobile. Just don't turn on the fan :)
