Last weekend my jazzed up Keys that I turned into Key Chains was a great addition to my craft show. I was able to knock out over 30 keys in just a few hours and each one turned out adorable. The kids helped me and we had a great craft time.

Can't upload pictures to blogger

Are you having issues uploading your pictures to blogger?

I am finally back to this "blogging thing" after a 2 month hiatus and the upload picture button was gone! It took me awhile to figure out how to upload a picture after playing with it for an hour last night. Then, I got on Facebook today and another friend blogger Kathia from Pink Little Cake was having the same issue.

If you can't figure it out...
just upload the picture in HTML format instead of the Compose format. It's that simple! Write up your post in the Compose format, like you normally do, and switch over when you get to the upload picture part. I hope that helps :)

Elmo Cake and Cupcakes {Sweet Friday}

Back in August I was asked to create this Elmo Cake for a sweet little boys 1st birthday.

I made a 2 tier white and chocolate cake, covered in light blue fondant, and decorated with Elmo.

I was asked to make 6 crayon cupcakes and 6 Dorothy the fish cupcakes.

And Elmo Cupcakes. I love how all the cupcakes turned out. Those fish look so cute.

How To Make Fondant Ruffles {Tutorial}

Thanks for stopping by today! You may remember the Cheetah Ruffle Cake and Cupcakes I made a few months ago. If you do not remember, here is the link.

I've received several emails asking how to make edible ruffles like the Cheetah Ruffle Cake, so here is my tutorial.

You will need:

Fondant (any color) - I used black.

Edible Pearls (silver, white, or both) - I used Silver Dragees.

Ruler

Water

Brush

Wooden Dowel

Roll out your fondant double the length you need. Cut your fondant. I cut my fondant the width of my ruler and as long as it was rolled out.

It was rolled out about 16 inches and 2 inches wide. Exact measurements do not matter.

Accordion fold your fondant.

Cut off the excess fondant to create a straight edge on the top and bottom.

Use your wooden dowel and press it down in the middle of your accordion fold. This will make your ruffles.

Roll your wooden dowel from side to side to make the fondant smooth.

Down the middle of your ruffle press indentations with the backside of your water brush. This will help hold some of your beads in place.

With your brush, add some water down the center of your ruffle and then add you beads or pearls.

Do not add too much water.

Press your beads down to secure them in place. Move your finished ruffle to your cake or cupcake.

Coat Hanger turned into Bow Holder. DIY CRAFTS

Sometimes it's hard to find the perfect bow holder to match your daughter's room. If that's the case then find something that does match her room decor, like wall art or a coat hanger, and turn it into a one of a kind bow holder.

My friend asked me to turn this Owl Coat Hanger into a bow holder.

It's easy to DIY.

Here is the Owl Coat Hanger before I did anything to it.

First I took the hooks off. They just unscrewed right off with a screwdriver.

Then, I added 3 double layers of ribbon with my hot glue gun. You can make the ribbon however long your short you want it. Of course, the longer the ribbon is the more bows it will hold.

The white ribbon is glued with small dabs of glue 2 inches apart from each other. This will leave room for the bow and the bow will stay in place and not slide all the way down the ribbon.

I added 3 bows at the top of each ribbon and glued them in place. I used Turquoise, Orange, and Light Pink Ribbon to match the owls.

At the bottom of each ribbon I added a large Rhinestone. This will hold the ribbon down so it doesn't sway from side to side when no bows are on it.

You're finished! Hang up and started adding some bows!

DIY Lip Gloss. Kids Craft.

Isn't fun having a little girl? You get to "play" and "create" pretty things with her. I haven't made lip gloss since I was eight years old at a friends birthday party, but I've never forgotten how to make it. Now that I have a pretty little girl I get to do fun creative stuff with her.

Here is how we made lip gloss...

You Will Need...

Vaseline- We used baby Vaseline. I recommend regular Vaseline but this baby Vaseline worked fine.

Spoon and Cup -(doesn't need to be a measuring cup)

Drink Mix - Kool Aid, Crystal Light, Store Brand, etc.. We used Target brand Market Pantry Cherry

Lip Gloss Cases - These are bead cases I found at Hobby Lobby

Please note: This will actually stain lips so I would recommend using a very light colored Drink Mix. We used Cherry. I wouldn't use cherry again. I would use Pink Lemonade, Lemonade, or Tea.

Get the kids involved. Even the young boys :)

Have the kids scoop out Vaseline into their cups.

Melt your Vaseline in the microwave until it is smooth.

Pour in your mixture. Any amount you decide will work. We used half the pouch.

Have your kids stir the mixture then pour it into the lip gloss containers.

Tap it and even it out. Put in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set back up.

That is it! Your little girl will love making her own lip gloss. She can pass out the others to her friends.

These lip gloss are fun little gifts for sleep overs, party favors, or Christmas stocking stuffers.

How To Keep Visitors On Your Blog Longer

Do you have a blog and you're frustrated that visitors do not stay on your blog for even one minute? Isn't it frustrating to know that no one is interested in reading your content that you've spend hours taking pictures of, editing the pictures, writing, posting, and promoting? Blogging is tough. Many people give up but if you "keep trucking" (as my brother would say) you could have a popular blog in the near future.

Here are my 7 tips to help visitors stay on your blog longer...

#1. Link Within.... Do you understand the term Link Within? If you read any of my post you will see a link to another post or section for my blog. For instance, if I write a Sweet Friday post I will have a link to all my other Sweet Friday post. Chances are, if you are interested in this Sweet Friday post then you may be interested in reading more of my Sweet Friday post. Did you see what I did there? I just linked within. Each "Sweet Friday" is a link that will send you to a different Sweet Friday post. Do not link to something random that you want to be seen. Make sure it's the same topic that you are writing about. I wouldn't have a cake post linked to a family update.

#2. About Me.... Honestly, people are nosey; in a good way. They want to know who is writing this blog. Maybe, they are interested in knowing you, or maybe they want to know if you are just like them. If they can relate to you then you might have just won over a new follower. Maybe, they want to see if you are similar to them. In there head they may think, "If she can do this, I can do this."

#3. Popular Post... If your reader is loving the post they originally found your blog from, maybe they want to read more interesting popular post. How to peek their interested in staying longer is to have a few Popular Blog Post on your sidebar. Popular Blog Post is very easy to add to your blog sidebar and people will read them.

#4. Blog Archives... This does the same thing to peek readers interest in staying longer as the Popular Blog Post does. Blog Archives will take your reader from your very first post in the order you posted it. Blog Archives can be added to your sidebar or you can create a separate page for it. Maybe, your reader wants to see how you've grown; from your first post to your post from today. How your crafts have evolved, to the growing of your cake decorating ability, from poor quality pictures to your new professional quality pictures. Or maybe they just want to see how many post you write per day, week, month, or year. People do not like a dead blog. Blog Archives will let your reader see everything you've written throughout your blogging journey.

#5. Avoid Dark Colors... This is pretty simple to understand and follow. Don't you hate it when you find a great post that you're dying to read, but you go to their page and almost everything is black. When that happens I leave within 10 sections. My eyes can not adjust to a black background and hot pink words. As you can see while reading this, my background is white with black words. This is what I'm talking about. Keep it clean and easy to read.

#6. Have Less Side Ads... Having less side ads is double edge sword. You want your side ads on your blog to make money for your blog. Every blogger wants to make money from blogging, but what are you doing? You are sending your readers away from your blog. Your reader is reading your post, but they see an ad for 75% off their favorite boutique. They can't focus on what they're reading, because their womanly shopping senses kick in and they click the ad leaving your blog. Yep, you've just lost your reader and chances are they have left your blog without signing up for a newsletter. Bummer.

#7. Pictures... If you are going to write a blog post have a picture. It's simple, but so many people do not have a picture when blogging. If you are going to write a tutorial about how to make something have some pictures to go with it. Don't you hate when you want to learn how to make something and they give you step by step instructions with no pictures. How do you follow? Pictures are key, even if they take forever to photograph and edit. It'll be worth it.

Optimus Prime & Bumblebee Head Cake

Are you a fan of the Transformers? I do not know anything about them other than the obvious of switching from car to machine, but I get cake request for Transformer themed cakes all the time. To tell you the truth, I actually cringe when someone request a transformer cake. So much details and sometimes I doubt if I'll be able to pull it off, but I'm always up for a challenge.

This is the Transformer Cake I finished up earlier today. It is a 2 tier cake, stacked three times per tier. The top tier is red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and the bottom tier is vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. This cake has a lot of details but it was easier than I thought it was going to be.

The top tier of this fondant Transformer Cake is Bumblebees head. The cake is covered in black fondant and dusted with silver pearl dust. Then the yellow was added, then the details. The details was black fondant, again, covered in silver pearl dust.

The bottom tier of this Transformer Cake is Optimus Prime's head. It's covered in blue fondant, with blue, black, and silver fondant details.

Cover all your Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins with burlap!

Or any other fall themed/colored fabric.

This is so simple to do. Just cover your Halloween Pumpkin with burlap, tie it with string or a rubber band, cut off the excess fabric, and add a satin bow to finish it off.

DIY Halloween Bottle Cap Bow Centers

Are you ready for Halloween? Chances are you are like me and you are just now thinking about what your kids are going to wear to school on Halloween. Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, so it will be a school day.

I've already got the costumes figured out, but I didn't think about the cute school outfit she will wear. I made a couple Halloween bows for next week and we decided to create some Halloween Bottle Caps for the bow centers.

So easy to DIY!

You will need....

Mod Podge

Sponge Brush

Halloween Bottle Cap Image

Painted Bottle Caps

1" hole punch

Blow dryer (optional)

DIY Steps:

1. You can create your own Halloween Bottle Cap Images by your self or you can purchase some online. I just purchased mine online via Etsy. Just print them out and punch out with a 1" hole punch.

2. Paint Mod Podge on your bottle cap

3. Add your bottle cap image to your bottle cap.

4. Paint more Mod Podge over you image. Let dry.

5. Repeat step four 2 or 3 times.

Tip: Get the kids involved!!

Let the kids do this! This is a great, easy, and fun kids craft!

Madison helped me with her bows and to speed the process up we used a hair blow dryer on the cool setting.

Once they are dry hot glue them on to your bows :)

Don't limit this creation to just bows. Think of the endless possibilities! What could you make out of these cute Halloween bottle caps? Magnets or necklaces come to mind. What do you think?

I got most of my supplies from the Dollar Store.

Fondant Pirate Cake with Skull Cake Topper

We had Jaxson's Pirate Party last Sunday and this was the Pirate Cake that I made for his special day.

This Pirate Cake is a three tier stacked cake . I topped the top of the cake with an edible skull that I made a few days prior.

I made the skull cake topper out of white chocolate. I used a toothpick to give him some cracks and painted them in with brown and black food coloring. I just painted over the crack then wiped off. I think he came out perfect.

The top tier of the cake was covered in red fondant and had a handcrafted fondant pirate scroll with Jaxson's name on it.

The middle tier is my favorite. I had drew the map using an edible cake marker. I used pirate stamps (as seen in this post here) as my inspiration and guide for the boats, skull, and octopus.

I love the Ahoy Matey Happy Birthday sign that I made out of fondant to imitate wood.

The sword going through the cake is gum paste over wire. The left side of the sword kept falling backward so it looks a tad bit off in this picture. I hope you enjoyed this post!

Sweet Barbecue Meatball Recipe

I do not think I've ever been to my mom's house for a family event without these meatballs. They are a family tradition and I do not know life without them. They are so easy to make and will be a huge hit at your next family gathering.

My mom made these for Jaxson's Pirate Party and we called them Cannon Balls.

They are so good! Here is the recipe...

....Sweet Barbecue Meatballs....

Pre-Cooked Frozen Italian Meatballs- 3lbs

KC Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce - Regular sized bottle

Grape Jelly - Small Jar

Place all items in crock pot.

Mix together well.

Cook on high until they are hot, then turn on low. Cook for a total of 3-4 hours.

The Best Pinwheel Recipe

Every year I try to have the same finger foods for the kids birthday parties, because they are such a huge hit. However, I am not much of a cook so I ask for help from my parents and mother-in-law.

My Mother-in-Law makes the best pinwheels I have ever tasted. Here is the recipe....

The Best Pinwheels

2 - 8 oz pkgs cream cheese
Small can chopped black olives (won't even use half)
Celery (chopped - however much you want to use)
1 pkg original Ranch mix
Green onions (chopped- just however many you want)
Flour tortillas

Just mix and then taste and add more if you think it needs more. Mix all together and spread on tortilla and roll up.

Refrigerate overnight and then slice.

My husband and I can not stop eating these pinwheels. We love them!

DIY Pirate Loot Bags

Lets stamp on some muslin bags today and make some cute Pirate Favor Bags. I made these bags for Jaxson's 3rd Pirate Birthday Party and they were a big hit.

You can do these bags for any theme or occasion.

All you need to make your own Pirate Loot Bags...

Any themed stamps. I used Pirate Stamps.

Stamp ink pad. I used black.

Red Fabric Paint.

Muslin Bags

Ink your stamp.

Stamp your bag. This "THANK YOU" stamp is for the back side of my Pirate Goody Bag.

X marks the spot at every pirate party. I used my red fabric paint for the X. Let dry before adding more stamps...

Now, stamp the front of your bag along the red path.

Looks like the little Pirate found his treasure eh matey?!

Turquoise Zebra Cake

This Turquoise Zebra Cake was a nice change of the normal pink and zebra cake that you can view here and here.

We both know how much I love making zebra cakes, but making it turquoise was a breath of fresh air. I love the colors!

I think the reason I love to create zebra cakes so much is because you can not go wrong with the zebra stripes. Once you know the technique on how to make the zebra stripes it is super easy and stress free.

How to make a GHOST out of tulle

Who doesn't love a good easy Ghost Craft! Better yet, lets make it out of TULLE! I just love tulle, don't you?

This Tulle Ghost Tutorial is fun and easy for the kids to do, too!

All you need:

White Tulle (I use 3 6x25 rolls. One roll will be enough. I just cut 3 at a time.)

White String

Scissors

Black Paint or Marker (I used black fabric paint)

Tulle Ghost Tutorial:

Cut 21 strands of white tulle at 16" long.

Fold the tulle in half to find the middle. String it together leaving a strand of string to hang up your ghost when we are finished.

Keep your ghost folded in half. About 3" down from your string tie another string around your tulle forming the head of your ghost.

Trim the bottom of your tulle into a point with your scissors.

Add black Ghost eyes & mouth.

Wrapping Paper Walls

DIY Monday Kids Craft

The other day I couldn't get the kids to play together. They both was very clingy to me and I had many orders to work on. At the time I was working on this Guitar Cake and I had wrapping paper in front of me and a light bulb went off in my head. I decided to tape wrapping paper down the hallway wall and let the kids color on it!

It was a hit! The kids sat and colored for over an hour. They didn't fight and it was so sweet watching Madison help Jaxson putting the lids back on the markers. The best part, I got to work without distraction for over an hour :) and I could still keep an eye on them!

I couldn't even get them to turn around for a quick pic.

If you need a moment of personal time and they refuse to play in their room this may work!

Test it out. It's fun :)

Fondant Race Car Cake

3 Tier Race Car Cake

My nephew Logan turned 2 a couple months ago and I had the privilege to make this cake for his 2nd birthday.

I wanted to challenge myself with a different layout than the normal 3 tiered stacked cake. The middle tier is smaller than the top tier. This has become my new favorite cake that I've created.

The cakes are a 6" cake, 4" cake, and 8" cake. The race cars are made from a rice krispy treat covered in fondant, so is the candle.

I will post a tutorial on how to make your own birthday candle soon!

The cake bunting was new for me too! I used fabric, glue, and 2 candy sticks.
