Thanksgiving PopCORN Husk Favors with Free Printable Tags

PopCORN Husk Thanksgiving Party Favors

These PopCORN Husk treats are one of my favorite Thanksgiving party favors. They are fast to make, budget friendly, and perfect for classrooms, church events, Friendsgiving, or to sell in bundles at fall vendor shows.

What You Need

Long clear treat bags • Green crepe paper • Popped popcorn • Jute or twine • Scissors • Hole punch • Printable tags

Step by Step Tutorial

Fill each long treat bag with popcorn, leaving a few inches of empty space at the top for the husk.
Gently shake the bag so the popcorn settles toward the middle of the bag to leave room at both ends.
Twist the bottom and top of the treat bag to tighten it around the popcorn and hold the shape.
Cut 2 strips of green crepe paper long enough to wrap around the twisted top/bottom of the bag and tall enough to look like corn husks.
Fringe the top of the crepe paper by cutting slits downward, stopping about halfway to keep it in one piece.
Tie jute or twine around the bases of the crepe paper to secure it. Double knot so it does not slip.
Fluff and separate the fringed crepe paper so it fans out like husk leaves around the popcorn.
Repeat for each treat bag. Add a printable tag to each one and you are ready for party favors or sales.

• Treat bag: 5 to 10 cents
• Popcorn: 3 to 5 cents
• Crepe paper: about 2 cents
• Twine: less than 1 cent

How to Turn an Old Dresser Into a TV Stand Without Sanding

If you have an old dresser sitting around and want an affordable DIY furniture flip, this project is perfect. Turning a dresser into a TV stand is simple, budget friendly, and completely beginner friendly. No sanding, no complicated tools, and no woodworking experience needed.

This makeover started with a basic dresser that had great bones but needed a fresh look. With paint, new hardware, and a simple layout change, it became a beautiful entertainment center that looked custom made for our living room.

A Dresser Makes a Great TV Stand Because...

Dressers offer built in storage
The height works perfectly for a TV
Open shelving can be created by removing some drawers
Bottom drawers hide cords and clutter
It costs much less than buying a new console

And the best part is that you can paint the entire dresser without sanding.

Supplies You Will Need

No sand bonding primer
Foam roller and tray
Angled paint brush
Latex or furniture paint
Clear top coat (polycrylic for lighter colors)
New drawer pulls or knobs
Screwdriver or drill
Baskets for open shelves
Optional: peel and stick wallpaper for drawers

Before You Start: Plan Your Layout

Every dresser is a little different, but this basic layout works best for turning a dresser into a TV stand:

Remove a drawer or two to create open shelf space
Keep some drawers for hidden storage
Drill a hole in the back panel if you need cord access

How to Paint a Dresser Without Sanding

1. Clean the dresser

Wipe the entire piece down with soap and water or a degreaser. This helps the primer stick.

2. Remove the hardware

Take off all the knobs and handles. If you are replacing them, set the old ones aside.

3. Prime the dresser

Apply a bonding primer so you do not have to sand. Use a foam roller for a smooth finish. Let it dry
completely before painting.

4. Paint the dresser

Use long, even strokes. Two coats of paint usually gives full
coverage. Allow the first coat to dry before adding the second.

5. Seal the paint

Use a clear polycrylic for protection. This keeps the finish looking new and helps prevent scratches.

6. Add new hardware

Hardware is the jewelry of furniture. Swap out the old knobs and pulls for something modern and stylish.

7. Style the open shelves

Add baskets or bins to hold electronics and hide cords. This gives the piece a clean, organized look.

Plastic Candy Bucket or Ice Cream Tub
3 Spools of 6" × 25' Tulle (black, orange, purple, or lime green)
Optional: 1/2" Satin Ribbon for trim - I didn't use it this time like I did for the Easter Basket
3/8" Satin Ribbon or Elastic for waistband
Optional: Fabric to line the bucket: I used orange fabric and just glued it in place
Optional: bats, mini spiders, glow-in-the-dark stickers, or fairy lights, glitter spray

Step-by-Step Halloween Tutu Candy Bucket Tutorial

Step 1: Cut Your Tulle

Decide how long you want your tutu.
I wanted mine to be about 6" long, so I doubled the length and cut each piece at 12".

✂️ Tulle Tip:
To save time, stack your tulle rolls and cut all three at once!

Step 2: Calculate How Much Tulle You’ll Need

Here’s a simple formula:

Bucket circumference × 1.5 = Number of knots
Knots × 3 = Number of strands of tulle

Example:
My bucket was 26" around.
26 × 1.5 = 39 knots.
Each knot needs 3 tulle strands → 39 × 3 = 117 total strands. If I use 1 spool of tulle I'll need 117 cuts, but if I want to speed this part up I will cut 3 spools of tulle at once and only need 39 cuts.

Step 3: Prep the Ribbon or Elastic

Cut your 3/8" ribbon or elastic long enough to fit around your bucket with extra slack for tying.
You’ll tie your tutu onto this band before gluing it to the bucket.

Step 4: Tie Lark’s-Head Knots

Line up 3 tulle strands and fold them in half.
Using the looped end, tie a Lark’s-Head Knot onto your ribbon or elastic.

Keep the knots loose—each should take up about ¾".
If your knots end up tight, you’ll just need to add a few more at the end.

Step 5: Secure the Ribbon

(Optional) Tie two small single knots at each end of your ribbon to keep the tulle from sliding.

Once all the tulle is attached, your ribbon will look like a mini tutu belt!

Step 6: Glue the Tutu to the Bucket

Use your hot glue gun to attach each knot directly to the plastic bucket, working all the way around.
When finished, tie the ribbon into a secure double or triple knot and trim any extra.

Step 7: Wrap the Handle

Use leftover tulle or ribbon to wrap the handle:

Tie to one side.
Wrap around the handle tightly.
Glue in place as you go.

Now the handle matches your tutu bucket perfectly!

Step 8: Add the Finishing Touches - Ribbon Trim or Fabric Liner

Ribbon Trim: Hot glue a strip of 1/2" satin ribbon around the top rim.
Let it ruffle slightly for a “spooky tutu” look.
Add bows, spiders, bats, or even mini lights for extra flair.

Fabric Liner: Place a piece of fabric in your bucket covering the bottom and up the sides. Cut the fabric that's sticking out of the bucket. Then take the fabric out of the bucket, lay it flat and cut it evenly in a circle all around. Then, place back in the bucket folding over the top of the fabric and glueing in place.

Step 9: Show It Off!

And that’s it — your Halloween Tutu Candy Bucket is complete! 🕷️
It’s the perfect combo of cute and creepy, and everyone will ask where you got it from!

When tying your elastic into a double knot, leave about one inch of "elastic tails" on each side. This will make sure your tutu stays snug and secure. Don’t worry—it’ll all make sense when you watch the video! 😉

Tip #4: Lock It in Place with Hot Glue

Cut off any excess elastic tails and use a glue gun to seal them in place. This little trick keeps the elastic from coming undone—because let’s be real, kids love tugging on their tutus!

Tip #5: Use 3 Strands of Tulle Per Knot

This will give your tutu that full, fluffy look! This knot is called a lark’s head knot (or cow hitch knot, if you’re fancy). When tied correctly, each knot should be about ½ to ¾ inch wide.

Tip #6: Add a Satin Ribbon for a Pro Finish

Take your tutu to the next level! Wrap and glue satin ribbon around each knot for a polished, professional look. This is a simple step that makes a huge difference!

Tip #7: Know Your Tulle Math!

For a 20-inch waist, you'll need 39 knots in total. Since each knot has 3 strands of tulle, that means you need 117 strands of tulle for one tutu.

But don’t panic—I use my trick from Tip #1 to cut six strands at a time, so I only need to cut 20 times (technically 19.5). Easy peasy!

Tip #8: The Finishing Touch – A Cute Bow! 🎀

To hide your starting knot, glue a cute bow made out of satin ribbon on top! Instant perfection.

How Much Tulle Do You Need?

For tutus that are 6-8 inches in length (sizes newborn to 5T, up to a 22” waist), you’ll need:

✅ 75 yards of tulle (3 rolls, 25 yards each)

Supplies You’ll Need:

🎀 3 Rolls of Tulle (Choose any color combination!)
🎀 Satin Ribbon (Choose any color!)
✂️ Craft Scissors (I love my rainbow ones!)
🔥 Bic Lighter (for sealing ribbon edges)
💖Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
⚡ 1/2” or 3/8” Elastic (the magic ingredient!)
💡 Something to hold your elastic in place – A chair back, candle holders, cereal box, or even your own thigh (DIY style!).

✨ Bonus Tip: I use metal hairpin legs screwed into a 2x4—super sturdy!

DIY Dresser Makeover Tutorial {with pictures}

DIY Decoupage Dresser

Like most kids, my son's a fan of the Avengers. So, when we decided to redo his dresser we decided on creating a decoupage Avengers dresser.

Decoupage is an easy way to create whatever style dresser you want. Since you can pick any paper or fabric for your decoupage project the possibilities are endless.

Let's Get Started!

Find an old dresser you're ready to spruce up.

Give your old dresser a good sanding. I used a sanding block.

You don't want to paint over sawdust, dirt, or grime. So, let's give it a good cleaning. I used a Degreaser. Then, Windex.

Fix any broken tracks or pieces. We used Gorilla Glue for the broken track, then screwed it into place. For the missing track, Daniel traced a good track & cut out a new one from wood with his Jigsaw.

Avengers Dresser Decoupage Supplies...

Products I used for this DIY Dresser Flip:

Sanding Sponge

Paint or Black Chalk Paint

Paint Brush / Foam Brush

Paint Roller & Tray

Painters Tape

Mod Podge

Wrapping Paper or Avengers Fabric

Water

This Avengers wrapping paper isn't in stock any longer. However, these Avengers Wrapping Paper from Amazon would be perfect!

Above is 2 rolled up posters, but we switched it out for 2 Avengers Wrapping Paper.

Tape off your drawers with Painters Tape.

Use your choice of paint to add 2 coats to your dresser. We went with Black paint. However, I would use a black chalk paint next time.

Use the roller paint brush for the large areas like the front of the drawers and the sides. Then, use the small paint brush for the hard to reach areas, crevices, and trimmings.

As your paint is drying, cut your Avengers Wrapping Paper down to size. We cut it to fit the front of the drawers. We needed 5 pieces.

While your dresser is drying, set aside your cut out paper, clean paint brush, Mod Podge, a bowl of water, and a sponge.

Steps to Mod Podging...

Mod Podge is really thick to work with. I kept a bowl of water and sponge near me at all times to thin it out as needed.

Step 1: Dampen your surface with water from your sponge

Step 2: Add a layer of Mod Podge with a paint brush

Step 3: Apply your paper, smoothing out as you go

Step 4: Trim your paper if needed

Step 5:

Add a final coat of Mod Podge to the top of the paper. You really want to seal in the paper, focusing on the corners and sides. The Mod Podge dries quick, so thin it out with water if needed. Use your sponge to create even strokes.

Your Mod Podge will be visible until it is dry.

Set your drawers aside and let them dry. This will only take an hour or two.

Mod Podging paper can be tricky. It's hard to not have creases in the paper. Wrapping paper is thin and will crease more, but even with creases it will urn out awesome.

Tips to prevent paper creases

work from the middle to the outside

use smaller pieces of paper

get the paper wet before you apply (this can tear easy)

I'm all about the vintage comic book feel, so the more creases the better!

Paint the Corners...

I wanted the dresser to look like one piece. I wanted it to look like an old Vintage Comic Book Dresser. So, to create the vintage comic book look I shadowed the corners, around the ends of the paper, and a few strokes on the top of the paper making the creases look antique.

Waiting for it to dry is the hard part!

Once we got it into his room I knew this was a piece people will ask me about in the future. I love how it turned out and so does my son.

Exposed Naked Rainbow Cake

This First Birthday Exposed Rainbow Cake is exactly how I envisioned it to be. If you're a huge lover of exposed cakes then you will love this beautiful Exposed Rainbow Cake! It's so easy to DIY! There's something so rustic and gorgeous about an exposed cake. I just love them!

I'm not a big fan of icing, so this is the perfect amount of sweetness for my sweet tooth.

DIY:

#1. Mix white (even yellow) cake mix with your AmeriColor Food Coloring until it's blended. Put the colorful mixture into a cake pan and bake. Do the same thing for each color in the same sized cake pan.

TIP: If your cake is cooked too golden for the beautiful colors to show use a serrated knife and cut around the cake edges. Freeze the cake for 15 minutes before doing so. This will create less crumbs as you're cutting. A better option is to find a large bowl big enough to use as a cutter. Like an over sized cookie cutter.

#2. Once your cake is cooled, ice the top with your favorite icing.

#3. Stack your colors in the order you would like. Press down firmly.

Tip: If your tall cake is too wobbly put it into the fridge. The stiffer the frosting the sturdier the cake.

#4. Place a long cake dowel inside the cake to keep it from falling over.

#5. Create Sprinkles from crumbled cake pieces for the top of your rainbow cake.

I used AmeriColor Food Coloring in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, blue, & Sky Blue. You can get your own pack here...

If you have just one cake pan this may take awhile, but it will be worth the wait.

DIY Rainbow Flag...

This rainbow flag is ribbon folded and glued over a cake dowel. Cut and heat seal the ends of the ribbon so it doesn't fray. Easy as pie (or should I say cake).

DIY Sawhorse Console Table: With Printable Plans & Supply List

DIY Entryway Table

Regardless, if you are looking for an entryway table, console table, or sofa table this Sawhorse table is the way to go. It is one of my favorite pieces in our new home and we have a sense of pride in building it ourselves, thanks to Shanty 2 Chic!

If you're new to building items for your home, these sawhorse brackets makes this design easy, even for a newbie wood worker.

We bought our wood and sawhorse brackets from The Home Depot, but you can buy them online, along with the other supplies I used for this project.

I didn't create pocket holes like the plan recommends.

This is how it looked before we added the bottom shelf.

My husband had to go to work so I went ahead and started to stain everything.

We chose Weathered Gray wood stain and I love how the color turned out. I recommend only doing 1 coat. Two coats made it look like it was paint and not a stain, so we had to sand it down a bit.

After the bottom shelf was added.

We didn't follow their plans exactly but it was a great helping guide.

Our table is 90" long. It's really big. I wanted it to be the exact width as our ~~Gothic Windows and Mirror~~. We didn't have a K Jig so we worked around the nails. Our nails are exposed, giving our table a more rustic look and feel.

Also, the top of our table did not have any end pieces. The top is 3 wood planks screwed into the sawhorse legs.

Now, the hard part is decorating this Sawhorse Console Table. A few of my pieces are from Joanna and Chip Gaines store in Waco Texas. ~~Read more about our trip to the Silos soon.~~

DIY Paint Splatter Cake. 3 TIPS!

Paint Splatter Cake

Last summer I had the request to make a paint splatter cake. It was very simple to do. So, if you're thinking about creating your own here's my tips. For this cake I made a 6" and 4" round cake, covered them in black fondant, and splashed neon color royal icing using a knife.

TIP 1: heat up the royal icing in the microwave for a few sections until it is water thin. Add coloring, mixing well and then splatter!

TIP 2: use a back drop so you don't get icing all over the place.

TIP 3: have the kids help create!

Since the Paint Splatter Cake was so quick and easy to do, I was excited to learn my daughter requested this cake for her 9th birthday. I changed up the colors slightly and made matching cupcakes with the same technique. And if you look close at the above picture you can see I used a black cake board instead of a white one.

This Paint Splatter Cake was a hit at her party and Madison loved telling everyone how she created all the "SPLAT" marks.

DIY Candy Land Party Decorations

I made these lollipop decorations out of wooden dowels, paper plates, cellophane, and curly ribbon. This is an easy DIY project, great for school musical props, party decorations, and whisical room decor.

I bought wooden dowels and spray painted them white. Then I taped two paper plates together; leaving a hole to slide the wooden dowel in. I covered the paper plates with cellophane and tied at the bottom of the plates around the wooden dowel.

Then I made some little candies to hang from the ceiling. Just punch a hole at the top and add some string!

DIY Pallet Dog Bed: Tutorial

How To Make A Wood Pallet Dog Bed

I couldn't take it anymore. Seeing that dog pillow on the floor was driving me crazy, so the hubs and I decided to make a dog bed out of an old wooden pallet.

We were able to make this Pallet Dog Bed for $0!!! Yes! It was FREE!

We had everything we needed to make this dog bed and you probably have everything too!

Pallets: Ask the manager at a local store and most of the time they will let you take them off their hands. Everything else was in our garage. However, if you do not already have the supplies needed here's some links of what we used:

We had a few pallets in the garage.

We broke the pallets down and gave the planks a good sanding.

Make sure to use safe clean pallets.

First, we made a frame to fit the pillow. Our frame is 39" x 29".

Wood glue works great to help keep things in place.

Then, use 2 screws at each corner.

For the base, we cut 3 planks at 28.5", Glue the edges, hammer them in and secure them with more screws.

Cut 4 planks at 9" each and glue into the corners of the bed. Screw into place.

I forgot to mention, this is the wood glue we have been using.

Lay pallet planks across the top of the frame and cut down to size.

The front plank and the back plank will be shorter than the rest. It will need to fit in between the two 9" planks. (above picture)

Evenly space out your planks and screw into place. Our planks are different sizes. We used what we had. No one will see these planks since the dog pillow will sit on top.

Wrap 3 pieces of wood around the top and screw into place. We made sure the wood was flush to the top of the 9" corner planks. These will be the same size as your initial frame in the first step.

I didn't take a picture, but the front opening of the dog bed was easy to create.

Both pieces of plank are 13" each and we made a diagonal cut up to 10" at the top.

All done! The pillow fits perfect inside our new dog bed!

Now, on to STAIN and PAINT!

I used a staining sponge to stain my dog pallet bed. Make sure to wear gloves!

Then, I immersed a clean staining sponge in water and used turquoise paint to paint over the stain. Use a light hand until you get the distressed look you are going for. The water thins out the paint making it easier to work with.

I'm so happy with the way it turned out and now there's a place for this dog pillow in our house. It's cute and our fur babies sure look adorable in it.

Overall, this was an easy project and only took a few hours.

Now that we have a house, the hubs and I plan on creating more things. Do you and your husband/boyfriend build things together? This is a new thing for us and I'm loving every second of it. It's a great way to bond. Since he's a firefighter, he is gone most days; this is great quality time that I will never take for granted.

DIY Jolly Rancher Candy Bouquet

Candy Bouquets make wonderful gifts for any occasion. They're a great gift idea for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Teacher Appreciation Gifts, Good Luck Gifts, and Get Well Soon Gifts. I've made candy bouquets for kids birthday parties, as sweet centerpieces and unique candy party favors.

Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a jolly rancher candy bouquet and all the supplies you'll need. Almost, any individually wrapped candy will work.

Any individually wrapped candies will work. My favorite candies to use are small hard or soft candies like: Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Rolls, Bit O Honey, and those Strawberry Hard Candies which no one knows what they're actually called. You can find all my supplies used and the candies I recommend in my Amazon Store Front.

DIY Steps To Make A Candy Bouquet....

Optional: Fill the cup with candy or a weight to hold it down. I only do this if it's an outdoor party

Place a line of hot glue on the top inside of your cup.

Place the Styrofoam Ball inside your cup. Press down.

Place a dab of glue on the 3" Styrofoam ball. Start at the bottom.

Add your candy to the glue and press. I like to hear the Styrofoam crunch a little, so I know the candy is going to stay. Hold for 10 seconds.

Add your candy all the way around. It will look like this.

Do the same thing with the next layer. Add the candy in between the candy on bottom, instead of directly on top.

Work your way up until your Styrofoam ball is covered with candies.

How to make an Easter Tutu Basket: Tutorial

DIY Easter Tutu Basket Tutorial

The cutest Easter Basket! Here's a step by step guide on how to make a Tutu Easter Basket. Not only can you create this Easter Basket for an Easter egg hunt, but this makes a cute Halloween candy bucket too!

You can use a Dollar Tree Easter basket or turn an old ice cream container in to an Easter basket, like I did.

Step by Step

Easter Tutu Basket Tutorial:

-Gather your supplies and start cutting your tulle. I want my tutu to be 6" long, so I doubled the tulle and cut it at 12" long.

You may be asking, "How much tulle do I use?".

Just measure around your basket in inches and times that by 1.5. That's how many knots you'll need. Then, times "how many knots you need" by 3. That's how many strands of tulle you will need to cut.

Example:

My basket is 26" around. I will times 26 by 1.5. So, I will need 39 knots. Each knot will contain 3 strands of tulle, so I will need to cut a total of 117 strands of tulle (39 x 3). However, to save time, I cut all three spools of tulle at once; only needing to cut 39 times vs 117 times.

Simple enough right?

-After your tulle is cut, get your 3/8" ribbon (or elastic) ready. Make sure it fits around your basket and you have enough slack to tie it in place at the end.

-Line up 3 strands of your cut tulle and fold them in half. We're going to make a Larks Head Knot on our 3/8 ribbon (or elastic).

-Tie a Larks Head Knot on to your ribbon, like the picture above.

-Do not tie your knots too tight. Each knot should be 3/4 of an inch. However, this is give or take. If you happen to make them tighter just use more knots at the end.

-All your Tutu knots should be added now to your ribbon (or elastic)

- (Optional) Tie 2 small single knots in your ribbon, like the photo above. This will hold your tulle in place, so it doesn't move back and forth.

-With a hot glue gun, start gluing each knot to your basket. Work your way all the way around.

- Tie your ribbon into a double/triple knot and cut away any excess ribbon.

- Cover the handle in tulle (or ribbon).

-Tie 3 long strands of tulle at one side of the handle and wrap all three strands up and around your handle...

-Glue your tulle in place as you work your way up and around.

Now, your handle matches your Easter Tutu Basket!

-I used satin ribbon to cover the top trim of the basket. Just glue in place. The more messy the better. It gives it a "ruffled" look.

- Make 2 pretty satin bows and glue to each handle.

Now, you have an unique one of a kind Easter basket!

No one will ever know you ate ice cream out of it last night!

Valentine's Day Lips - Candy Treats

My daughter and I made some candy lip suckers today just for fun. It was a great craft that my 6-year-old could handle and loved to do. This is a must try for you and your kids.

You Will Need:

Make and Mold: Red Candy Melts

XOXO & Lip Candy Mold

Plastic Sucker Sticks, Bags, & Ties

Make N Mold Bottle

I can no longer find this one, so I would recommend using this silicone lips mold here: Silicone Lips Sucker Mold

DIY Steps:

Fill your Make N Mold Bottle 3/4 full with Candy Melts.
Melt in Microwave following the instructions. I did 30 sec intervals.
Squeeze bottle and mix candy
Repeat until the candy melts smoothly
Place lid on bottle and squeeze candy into molds (let the kids do this)
Tap molds softly on counter tops to level the candy
Place in fridge until it hardens
Pop out candies from mold (let the kids to this)
Add a sucker stick by placing a small dab of melted candy to the back on the stick. Let the candy harden to hold the stick in place.

SUPER EASY!

Don't forget to tap it on the counter to level it out and to pop any air bubbles.
