Although I am participating in a 100 hubs in 30 days challenge I do NOT plant to turn HubPages into a main business model.

Why? For one… it is risky. At any time HubPages could decide to delete your hubs or worse, your account. Then all your work would be for nothing.

Secondly… you are building up their website… not yours. You are providing HubPages with content.

In the long term it would be much better to create your own blogs and build up your own domains and build REAL assets for yourself.

Third… what if your income was dependent on HubPages and for some reason Google slapped them and they were no longer getting good rankings in the search engines? Bye bye income.

All the same goes for Squidoo as well. Trusting a 3rd party website for all your content and income always puts you at risk.

I do plan to create 100 hubs at HubPages for the sake of a challenge and as an experiment to see what it can do. Plus, adding a small extra income stream couldn’t hurt.

However, my own blogs are still my first priority for building my business.

I have never really thought of HubPages much, I never thought it would be worth the time or the effort.

Then I heard a story about a guy who did a 100 hubs in 30 days challenge and actually started making about $750 extra a month. So I decided that I could spare the time to do the same challenge for myself.

Over the next 30 days… starting from today July 6th, 2009 I am going to create and publish 100 HubPages hubs.

I want to see if the extra income it brings me can match or exceed the guy who is now making an extra $750.

PLUS, I can use this as a chance to promote my niche blogs by creating hubs in the same market and then posting my RSS feeds inside the hubs. I am not sure if I can directly link to my blogs or not, but I will give that one a try.

I am a total HubPages newbie… but I am all about learning and trying new things. Let’s see how well this does both in the form of extra income and increased traffic to my blogs.

How Does HubPages Make Me Money?

In order to make money from HubPages you want to get a Google Adsense account, an Amazon Associates account, a Kontera account and an eBay Partner Network account.

If you can only get the Google Adsense account for now you can still start making some income. If you have been a member of The Niche Blogger for more than a few months you probably already have accounts with all these programs.

Now… this is how it works…

HubPages splits the ad revenue from those sources with you by giving you 60% of the impressions while they keep 40% of the revenue and impressions for themselves.

This may not sound very fair, however this is mainly a place for me to earn some extra cash and get some exposure for my niche blogs.

I figure the 60% of the revenue I get to earn is a bonus, and from what i’ve heard… it can really start to add up.

HubPages Challenge Day 1

Since today I officially started my participation in the challenge I decided I should start it off with a bang. I am goign to make 5 new high-quality hubs today.

Since I don’t work on much on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays I am trying to make at leat 5 a day through the weekdays.

I will keep you updated on how this goes…

Don’t worry I am still making Niche Blogs in full force as they are my favorite business model and in my opinion, one of the most profitable.

If you want to join me in this challenge, go get signed up for HubPages then post a comment below. We can do this together.

I started this blog in May 2007, so a little over two years ago. I was pregnant at the time and very worried about our financial situation. The $72,900 of debt that was sitting on our shoulders was taking a huge toll on my physical and emotional health.

An idea came to my mind one night, to start a blog and document my progress in paying off my debt. I was determined to pay off my debt in any legal way possible. Thankfully I quickly found blogging and that has completely saved us financially.

The road I took was not an easy one, nor was it a short one. I went through a lot of mistakes and pitfalls along the way. I lost some money here and there too.

Knowing what I know now there are some things I would have done differently… but overall this has been a fantastic learning experience for me and those who have followed along with me on my blog here.

I wanted to thank all my readers for sticking with me, even when I thought there was no hope. I made it and am so happy to say that you can too. Don’t let anyone tell you it is impossible. You will be debt free if you put your mind to it.

We just found out not too long ago that we are now expecting baby # 5 to come into our family! No better way to celebrate being debt free than to grow my family.

I am due on Christmas Day 2009. I have been feeling quite sick, but I haven’t been letting that hold me back too much from working on my blogs and my membership site.

There is nothing greater than family and I feel so blessed to be able to stay at home with my kids and still make a living at the same time.

The reason I set up The Niche Blogger in the first place was to give other parents the opportunity to also work and stay at home with their kids.

If you have always wanted to work from home, blogging is really the best way to do it. It gives you the most freedom and allows you to work with topics you love.

My goal was to be debt free by April 2009, but I beat my own goal! Today I just sent off my very last debt payment of $2,420.68 to the last credit card I will ever have. Good bye American Express!

I did not think i’d be THIS excited, but I feel like I just got let out of prison. No more will the chains of debt be wrapped around my ankles.

Getting out of debt has been my sole focus for the past 21 months. I am very excited to say that I did it! I am finally debt free!

I cannot even begin to describe how different I feel now. It is like a big boulder has been lifted off my shoulders.

It all started in May 2007 when I decided it was time to do something about my debt. I did not know much of anything about internet marketing.

I decided that if I put my goal “out there” to the world that somehow I would meet it. I started my blog here.

At first I was involved in Get Paid To programs, but switched over to blogging and niche websites for more passive income.

I literally worked my behind off working 12 – 18 hour days 6 or 7 days a week. I was determined that I would meet my goal even if it killed me.

My family and friends thought I was crazy. They told me to file for bankruptcy and that I needed to get a “real” job. It just made me work harder and longer.

Blogging is NOT the quickest way to paying off debt. I could have done more things for active income along the way that could have increased my cash flow considerably, but I had a bigger picture in mind…

I wanted to eventually be able to get to a point that I would have enough passive income that it would in effect be a “retirement” for me. So instead of making a few hundred here or there in active income I was fine building up my passive income by small increments because I knew it was long lasting.

So now I am debt free AND I have passive income to boot! Not to mention a great portfolio of virtual real estate if I ever needed to sell them.

So what is the point of all my ramblings?

1. Set a financial goal and focus on it with great intensity. Don’t give up even when things get hard.

2. Build up some passive income that will bring you in money day after day long after the work is completed.

3. You CAN become debt free!

I cannot believe it. In May 2007 I started off with $72,900 worth of debt and now I am down to $11,518.34! That is over $60k paid off! My goal was to pay it all off by April 2009 and to be honest with you I think I may reach my goal even sooner.

I honestly thought that my goal to pay off $72,900 worth of debt in 2 years soley by making money online was going to be IMPOSSIBLE. I mean, I knew nothing about internet marketing or earning cash online. I could never have imagined this future and the success i’d be able to create.

I truly feel led by my life’s mission to help others do the same, which is why I created The Niche Blogger. You will never know where your future will lead you, but you can put yourself on the path of prosperity by taking steps down the right road.

I am really excited for the day when I can finally yell out “I’M DEBT FREE!!!” Soon… very soon. Being this close is giving me a ton of momentum!

Yipeee, I could not think of a better Thanksgiving present. Instead of shopping on black friday I sent off a huge payment to my debt and I got to tell you, it feels so much better.

I launched an awesome membership site a few days ago, The Niche Blogger. It is truly the best thing I have ever created because it is about a topic I eat, sleep and breath every day… niche blogs.

The site is already up to over 100 members and everyone is loving the content. I set it up as a blog so I can post more new content every single day, and this is all content 100% written by me.

I am going to be sharing everything about the way I make my money niche blogging. It is the same course I created to teach my computer illiterate mother how to build her own blogging income as well and it is the same methods I use on a daily basis.

I taking all The Niche Blogger members from beginner (I mean, as beginner as only knowing how to check email and do internet searches) all the way to advanced strategies. I make about $5k a month myself from my niche blogs and am excited to start teaching others.

As far as marketing the niche blogs, I don’t use PPC (pay-per-click). I will teach everyone the free methods I use to get traffic and build PR and search engine rankings..

I have enough tutorials, guides, tips, tricks, strategies, case studies and experiences to share that members will want to stay on board for a long time. It is the best value you will ever find for under $10 a month, heck it is better than most sites that cost 4 times as much. Click here to check it out.

There is no price on quality family time. You could go to a park and fly kites, have a picnic or just sit down together and play a board game.

A few years ago, I thought that we had to spend money to have any fun. I have really opened my eyes to the joys of living a simple life. We don’t buy any fancy clothes… we drive a 2003 vehicle… we hardly ever go out to eat, but we are happy to be together.

I gotta tell you, it feels good to know your visa credit cards don’t have to be your ticket to happniess. So pack a lunch and spend some time with your kids. Not shopping, but having some free high quality fun time together. That’s what I plan to today myself.

My mom has been begging me to really teach her how to make money online. Plus, I went to a family reunion recently and had several relatives ask me to teach them.

So for the past few months I have sat down and created a step by step guide that goes through the exact motions of what you need to do to build a Niche Blogging Empire.

I have got to admit, I get the majority of my income from my niche sites and blogs with the blogs being the best performers.

The problem was, my mom was a complete computer newbie. My other relatives have never sold anything or made a dime online either. So I really had to make it simple for them. Thankfully, I documented it all and am putting it all together as my new project for September.

Now, if you have been wanting to build a niche blog empire of your own and make $4 – $5k a month then this is exactly what you need. Since I am just getting started on it I am going to offer it insanely cheap for the first members to join up with me. When I say cheap, I mean $7.95 a month cheap.

I am not officially launching it until September 1st and there will probably be a few changes between now and then, but you can get a sneak peek here. Oh did I mention there is an affiliate program?

I decided I wanted to move all my plain HTML websites to wordpress blogs. I like being able to change my template around and I love being able to upload more articles without having to redo all my menu bars.

So I am going back to all my really old sites and basically renovating them. Putting them on wordpress and adding more new content. This will keep me really busy all throughout this month and probably September as well.

Already one of the websites I redid this month went from making $3 a day to making almost $12 a day. Well worth the change if you ask me. I use the Super Adsense Wordpress templates and just change the header image to go with my niche topic.

The trick to keeping my old links working in my wordpress blog is to set up my permalink to be a custom structure as follows: /%postname%.html

I will let you know what results I get from renovating my sites and converting them all to blogs.

I moved into a rental home that is about $300 less per month than our previous place. This should help me save some money to pay off my debt much faster.

I gotta tell you, moving has been a pain. Packing, unpacking and organizing a new place is a really big project. I am hanging in there though.

I have been trying to find as many ways as possible to trim the fat in my budget and only spend the bare minimum. I am getting so close to being debt free that I can taste it. This has given me a lot of extra motivation to work more hours and really push myself to make it happen.

There is quite a bit of debate surrounding debt vs credit cards. If you have ever tried to rent a car without a credit card they will tell you it can’t be done.

Personally, I think even the best credit cards are like playing with fire. Some don’t even let you pay on your balance throughout the month making you have to wait until the end of the month to pay it. They do this in hopes that you will spend all your money so you wont have enough to pay off your entire balance.

Debt cards are better but can still be dangerous if you don’t keep careful track of what you spend. I have a friend who racks up overdraft charges like crazy because she never balances her checkbook.

If you have bad credit, bad credit credit cards are certainly not the best idea either. They have huge interest rates in the range of 32% – 36% and will eat all your money up in interest.

Many people use credit cards saying they will pay off the balance each month, but very few actually do it. I have changed my philosophy from “Can I afford the payment?” to “If you don’t have the cash, don’t buy it.”

It is not secret that our economy is in a slump and it is possible it could get worse before it gets better. So what is a person to do if they want to ensure they always will have a monthly income coming in?

When the economy is booming, affiliate marketing rocks. People have money to buy all sorts of things and sales can quickly add up.

However, as people have less and less disposable income most high ticket items are the first to stop selling. You will find that any products that cost more than $30 – $50 wont be selling as well as they used to.

In this market you need to find inexpensive items that people need, not just want. People always need food, clothing, beauty, health products and inexpensive entertainment. Markets like luxury vacations and other types of expensive recreation will be one of the first to suffer in a bad economy.

Want to not only preserve, but increase your income when most markets fall? Stick to things people will be looking for and need.

Here are some ideas -

1. How to save money by….

2. Make money by…

3. How to _________ for less…

If you have niche websites I recommend you have several income streams on them. If you are used to making all your money through affiliate marketing, also be sure to put something on there that pays you per click or by so many page views. This way you can still make some money even if people don’t buy anything.

Avoid wasting money on ineffective marketing. For example, I have never made a dime by using PPC like Adwords. Finding ways to advertise for free through article marketing and search engine optimization will allow you to continue to bring in traffic if money gets tight in your household.

For article marketing I use Unique Article Wizard. I have found them to be the best overall value for the results. In fact, the cost for their service is the only expenditure I have for advertising.

Above all, don’t go into debt to build your business or to buy anything else. Not owing anybody anything will help you to keep your head above water if things become difficult.

I was thinking last night how much my life is guided by God as opposed to just myself. Being in debt and working to pay it off has been very difficult. There are times I wish I would never have gotten into debt, but I must tell you, this trial has changed my life.

First of all, If I had never gotten into debt I would never have created this My Debt Free Goal blog or even gotten into Internet Marketing for that matter.

Working so hard and sacrificing has taught me some valuable life lessons.

1. Material possessions are over rated – We have sold pretty much everything we have and cut down to just the basics and I got to tell you, it feels better to not have so many ‘things’ to worry about.

2. Working together as a family towards a goal brings everyone together – Even our kids are excited about us becoming debt free. They don’t complain when we don’t spend money to do all the things they would like or when we don’t buy them toys or candy at the store. We instead spend quality time together at the park or playing board games. It has truly brought us closer together.

3. God turns our trials into blessings. Everything that has happened in my life or ever will happen are because God loves me and wants to teach me and help me grow. I have grown tremendously over the past year and all the blessings that have come out of this have come from Him.

Even though sometimes I feel guilty for being stupid enough to go in debt, I wouldn’t want to go back and take away all the good that has come out of this experience.

Guest Blog Post About Affiliate Programs:

If you want to make it in affiliate marketing you have to find affiliate programs that match the content on your website. Affiliate programs that doesn’t have any kind of relationship to the topics your writing about just won’t cut it – at least not if you want to make money.

A lot of people look only at commission rate when choosing an affiliate program, but don’t make that mistake; you need to have affiliate programs that offer products or services that your visitors are interested in. No matter how high any commission is – remember that you won’t get a dime if no one signs up or buys anything.

Another tip is to pick affiliate programs from brands that you know and like. Even though more and more people are buying things online a lot of people still feel insecure about it and hesitates when they are asked for their payment information. A highly recognizable brand is more trusted and makes your customers feel more secure when making a purchase.

To get more info; take a look at AffiliateTips.com which is a great affiliate directory. If you’re still learning how to work with affiliate marketing you’ll find articles on this site covering all the basics you need to know in order to start up your business.

Besides affiliate marketing, they also have articles on how to pick a domain name, get traffic to your site, basic SEO and web hosting to name a few. They also have reviews of all the best affiliate programs that are available.

In reading the reviews you’ll learn all the pros and cons which will make it easier for you to decide which one you want to partner up with.

If you for example have a site discussing the educational system in USA you should have a look at the education affiliate programs presented there. We wish you the best of luck in the affiliate business!

Here is a guest post from my friend Richard Adams:

In this post I’d like to take a few minutes just to outline 4 Google tools that I have started using that have really made my life a lot easier.

1) iGoogle

iGoogle allows you to create your own personalised homepage on Google. Set it as the page your browsers start page and it’s the first thing you’ll see when you log onto the Internet from your computer, or in an Internet cafe can be easily accessed safely by you using your username and password.

iGoogle allows you to add all sorts of different “gadgets” to your homepage so you can see lots of things at once and so acts as my main control panel (or my “dashboard” for all you Wordpress bloggers out there!). Pretty much everything feeds into this one area so a quick view and I can access most of the tools I need.

Examples of what I have set up on my page:

a) My Gmail account shows unread items. Click the email and it opens up for me to read.

b) Weather forecast for wherever I specify. When I’m at home it helps me decide which days are going to have the best weather over the next week or so and so which day’s I’ll go out and enjoy it. When I’m away it can be useful for planning trips.

c) Google Feedreader. See below for more details on this one.

d) Latest News Headlines just to keep me up to date with what’s going on in the world.

e) Date and time.

f) Google Calendar so I always know what I’ve got coming up.

2) Google Docs

Create and access Microsoft Office-like files online. This means I can access files from any Internet-enabled computer so I can have domain details etc. in a handy spreadsheet and then if anything goes wrong (as it invariably does!) while I’m away I have the information I need to rectify it.

3) Google Calendar

My online calendar. Up until a year or two ago I maintained a paper calendar on my wall plus an Ipaq and a paper diary merely listing birthdays etc. Keeping all 3 of these things in sync was nigh on impossible.

With Google Calendar I have everything in one place that I can access via any Internet-ready computer. Even better, it’s set up to text me before important events so I don’t forget things and automatically syncs with my Palm Treo thanks to a nifty bit of free software I downloaded from the net. So I’ve even got a copy of my calendar on the smart phone whenever I need it.

4) Google Reader

Quite possibly familiar to you RSS-toting blogizens, Google Reader allows me to insert the RSS feeds of blogs I love to read. Using this reader means I can view all the latest posts in one handy place rather than having to visit each blog individually to see if they have been updated at all overnight.

The whole reason I started this blog in the first place was to motivate both myself and anyone who came across it to get out of debt and realize that no matter how far in debt you are, you can get out.

I cannot tell you how much lost sleep I have had over my debt. Debt is like a trap, it is so easy to walk into it and it is so dang hard to get out of it.

There are credit card offers for people with bad credit, people who were in bankruptcy, and people who are just plain broke. The worst thing about them is they are the highest interest and highest fee credit cards there are.

The best advice can be found in the SNL skit “Don’t Buy Stuff You Can’t Afford” and from Dave Ramsey.

I do not recommend getting a credit card to help establish or build your credit. You don’t need credit for anything but to buy a home and even then you can get a loan with manual underwriting where your credit score is not the deciding factor.

Once I pay off my current debt, I will never touch debt again for any reason or in any circumstance. There is nothing I want or need bad enough to go in debt for.

Want to get into internet marketing and bring in a passive income but just don’t have the time or know-how to get your own niche sites up and running?

I make most of my income passively off my niche websites. I love it because once I put them out there, they make me money constantly without me having to do any more work. It is truly passive income.

Since I have very little time left to pay off my debt I am running an unbelievable offer for you today.

I will research, create and promote your niche websites for you.

Here is what I am offering:

1. You tell me what niche you like. I will find a great domain in the niche (I will even buy the domain for you) and will do all the keyword research.

2. I will create a website with 10 unique content articles and set it up to get great rankings in the search engines.

3. I will place your advertisements on the site to help you make the most revenue.

4. I will advertise your site during its first month using article marketing and social bookmarking.

5. I will transfer the site to your hosting for you.

All of it is completely hands-off for you. You will own the website and the domain. All the content is yours.

How much am I charging? Just $147 a website.

I can only do 10 websites this round. When I am done with the 10 I will be able to open up round 2.

If you want any of the ten spots, you can order here: SOLD OUT

I will be getting them done as quickly as I can, however it is first come first serve so if you are the first to order, I will be doing your site first.

How can people get out of debt while the credit card companies charge 24.99% or more? It is crazy. I was looking at this Bank Rate Credit Card Calculator and calculated that a $5,000 credit card debt at 24% will cost you dearly.

Paying $125 a month it will take you 586 months to be rid of your debt. In that time, you will pay $18,812.72 in interest.

Now the big question is, would it be wise to surf a high interest rate to a low interest rate card through a balance transfer? Well, it depends on a few factors. The problem with opening another low rate credit card is the increase of available credit.

If you transfer your high interest rate balance to the new one, your old one now has a zero balance. If you charge that card back up again, you are in a worse situation than you were before.

Getting the best balance transfer credit cards can be a good idea, if done with wisdom and discipline. Cancel the old card right after the balance transfers over.

Also, don’t delay paying it just because you have 0% for a time. One little mistake, one little late payment will make your 0% disappear right before your eyes and you will wish you had been paying more on it.

Do NOT use your balance transfer card for any new purchases. Some cards will give you 0% on balance transfers but will charge you an arm and a leg for interest on new purchases.

Don’t be under the impression that you can charge something on it and pay it off that month. The way the credit card companies pay off your balance is lowest interest rate to highest.

So you will have to pay off your entire 0% balance before they will apply any money to your higher interest rate purchase.

Sometimes not moving your balance to a lower rate is a good thing. Why? Because paying that interest makes you angry and uncomfortable. That in turn, makes you want to pay it off faster and keeps a fire lit under you. You don’t want to make being in debt comfortable.

This is one area where Dave Ramsey completely changed the way I viewed my credit score. Your FICO score does not say how smart you are with money. Instead, it is nothing more than a “I Love Debt” score. It is all based on how much debt you have, what types of debt you have, how much debt you have had in the past and how many debt payments you have made.

Now what happens when you are debt free and don’t take out any more debt? That’s right, you credit score drops to zero. This causes a lot of people to remain in debt and take out more debt just to keep their credit score up. They get scared about their credit score and unemployment or their credit history.

The main benefit of checking your credit report is to make sure no one has stolen your identity. You can get a free annual credit report from the three major crediting agencies through AnnualCreditReport.com since you can only do it from each agency once a year I recommend you get one from each of the three agencies every 4 months.

Don’t worry about having debt just to get a good FICO score. You can get a mortgage with manual underwriting when you need one (they don’t consider credit score). Anything else like auto loans that require a credit score should be avoided anyway.
