Hi! It's been years since I last time posted anything on my blog. It's weird to be here again writing the messages. I'm now back (tho I don't know how active I will be in the future) but I wanted to tell everyone that I'm still alive and well. Time just has gone and I little lost interest to write here.

Later I started a YouTube channel that is still Blender related, just like this blog is also. With the same google account and I discovered that google adds automatically a link to this blog from the YouTube account header. What I can do than just come here and write something? haha. :D

I hope that the time has been good for you. Who ever you are and if you still remember me or my blog. I also hope that my English has become little better, but not sure of even that tho. :)

I have started to do these low poly scenes almost daily and I discovered that I really love doing low poly art. :)

3D - Rigging

Rigging... Huh, that is something I have been scarend since I started for learning this 3D stuff. You know, if you make a model with 3D-program, you can not almost in any situations use it except as a static object if you don't rig it. But what is rigging?

Imaginate, that you have done the most beautiful and nice 3d model ever and textured it and made nice renders of it and everything. Yeah, your model is not ready yet. You just can not use it in animation without the setup that makes it more easy to animate. Of course you can try to animate all the vertices by single, but the result looks like a type of shit and you will waste rest of your life with it.

So by doing the control system for the model we will avoid that kind of frustration. In nut shell: rig is the system for animating the 3D-model.

In my caption I told that I have been scared for the rigging works and I can tell that I still do not love it even thought I have started for learning it. Modeling the 3D-models is pretty easy, you can learn to make simple 3d-models in really short time. But rigging is much harder because as a 3D model you can just watch a picture and copy the details to your 3d-model. In the rig you can not do that. There is too much of invisible functions in that system that you just neet to know exactly what to do if you want to make a complite working rig to your character.

I started this journey with doing mechanical rigging tutorial. Here it is.

So I just made same kind of robot that he also has made and then started following the tutorial.
Here is the picture of my robot and its rig:

Now with the control bones (the sticks) I can control the animation of this object.

Okay, if I am honest with this: That my robot rig does not work as well as I saw the one working in the tutorial. It made me realise that I need to practise this. I dont know why this happened, but I did set the bone to be rotated only for an example in x axis and it won't rotate in any other direction. Then if I add a control bone for few that kind of limited rotation bones, I still can with that control bone to make them rotate in the wrong directions. I have no idea for why this happens, but I need to find it out.

Update: I did ask on the blenderartists.org forum about this rigging problem and few really nice guys did help me for doing it better.

So I started to model some really bad looking car, just only to make it to be a rigged model.

This is my first car rig. Its not so nice and there is no one controlling bones for controlling the other bones, but it works still very well, because there is no need for any complex animation. With this it is possible to open and close the doors and rotate the wheels.

Yet I can not turn the front feels in that car, but i am trying to understand how to make it working correctly. Because of that kind of problems, i have been scared for starting to learn the rigging. But now I have started it, here I come!

3D - Orvo the lonely alien

World is filled with some bad B-movies that has the scene where you see really bright spotlights front of the cameras. Then from the light fog there is an aliens that are walking to you slowly... I think that it is funny so I wanted to play with the idea a little...

Then, one day Orvo meets a girl-alien that makes him to fall in love...

The girl says "no" to his proposal and Orvo starts to drink because of this sorrow... :(

Then. After few years he thinks that he can not anymore continue this. Orvo wants to end it all.

Hey, on yesterday I had time with my friend Tuomas and we went photographing to nature. :) The main idea was to take photos of the autumn, but in the place we realized that we were little bit too late. Maybe one weekend before would have been the best time for this, but suprisingly we were playing frisbeegolf at that weekend and now I have just good memories, but not photos of this autumn. So here is not so much of photos of the autumn, but something else... :)

This is actually uncompleted modeling scene, but I wanted to show it still because I like it and I also like the project itself.So I had an idea to model an airplane scene. In this model there is some modern parts mixed with the old ideas, so this can be called somehow "steampunk"..

3d - Glassware

Sometimes it is really relaxing to model this kind of simple models. Just make some product and then render it, no brains needed. :D

In my mind old people often has this kind , or almost similar glassy goblets.
Here in Finland they fill them with fox or liquer candies.

Here in the Finland they have their societies everywhere. Nobody knows what is in their minds, but surely they are planning something. It looks like that they are not doing anything, but if you look closer you fastly understand that they are really doing something that makes your mind become more and more nervous, they are watching you!
The most clever readers of course understood that I was speaking about the cows, those secret rulers of the worlds.

From this picture you can see their secret hierarchy system. Bigger cow is stalking me and the smaller boss, is downloading data from his spine nerve.

Blender has really good tools for creating volumetric clouds, the next picture I will show to you

3d - the gun

Hey, I was on some course where I have a lots of free time, so I took Blender in the memory stick to the computer that I used there. Now i can use my timee to something creative. (the computer owned by the company that runs the course and I can't install anything on it)

So I figured out that Blender actually works very well even from the memory stick and I had no anymore boring there...

The model is based on the colt 1894 bisley model, but this is actually my own version about it and it is not so similar. I am not a big fan of the guns, but i think that this kind of old revolvers are little bit more nice than the modern ones.

The first picture. Material is without gloss setting so the reflection is really bright.

I figured out that this needs some leather shuck as a detail. The model of it is really fast and took only few minutes to model. Also some details added to the gun.

3D - Long time no modeling

Few posts ago I told that I tried to get on the school for learning 3d modeling and animation. Ai reached the school, almost...

In the list I am the 22th who did not get in the school and they have 22 places, so if everyone of those 22 quits, then I can have my place...

I have had little lack of inspiration for while in everythin creative.. I'll try to start everything again and not to despond too much because of this. :)

3d - Little after effects animation

It was for a movieproject. I didd this animation before the movie, so we cannot actually use it in the movie itself, becase when the movie was completed, it was bit different style with this but I still like this animation.

This is not the complete render of this animation, so you can see little "strobo-effect" there.

Finland is the new world champion of the ice hockey. In the final match our "enemy" was Sweden so here is a tribute for the "battle" that we win! I did made it quickly from the drawing that was in the Swedish magazine.

Here is also a small video of Finnish people how they gets insane on the streets and everywhere while watching the final ice hockey / after the match.

I wanted to make some picture for my mother that i can send to her via facebook. She is studying hardly so i did model a book (not school book) And the rose and also cup of coffee.

There is a lot of small errors in this picture because it is done so fastly, but i think that it is ok and i hope that my mother likes it.

When I was kid I had a big box of legos and I did play with them at every day. Also I am sure that if i some day have kids they will also play with legos, because I will testament my legos to them. The legos are at this time in my parents attic storage... :P

Okay, so because I liked them so much I wanted today model little scene of legos. Just for the respect of the old times. :)

I know that there is some problems with the material and the legs of the guy, but this was just a little funny test so i did not want to make it so serious. :)

Free 3d-models.
In my hard disc there is lot of 3d-models that i have not finished and i think that most of them is the ones that probably cant ever finish. So i started minding that "What for i have that kind of stuff in my hard drive that i even cant use at anything?" Blender is a free program so why should not I give some of my blender made models away for others, maybe someone thinks they are usefull.

3d - preliminary assignments

Long time no writings. :)

Here is my preliminary assignments for Metropolias 3d-visualization and animation track.

Task 1.
Design two charchers for the animation movie that is for inspiring people to recycling garbage.
The genre of the movie is edifying by the funny way.
The charchers must be builded from what ever kind of recycled garbage material.

Task 2.

Make the storyboard with the charchers to the one scene of the movie that is mentioned in the task 1.
In the scene happens something suprising in waste bit for the charchers.

What I can tell about making of this stuff is that it almost made me cry lot of times and I am not so proud of the results. I could do better. But this is what I got now and I hope that they understand my ideas.

3d - Staying still is not an option

Okay, just another one little scene.

I did made it for printing it in the size of A3, so the resolution of the render is huge.

Of course i will not show the full size render here, but actually this one is enough big to give you a very good sense of this scene.

All the textures are from Blender's own procedural engine except the skull and the leaves. Texts is added with photoshop.

All the post processing is done with blender's node editor and photoshop.

Okay, i edited this, because there was something that I was not happy with.

I wanted to show what I did do today at school. I am at movie making course and when we was supposed to watch teacher doing film cutting with Premiere I did wasted my time with photoshop.

Actually i started firts to play with photoshop's filters until I visualised in my mind the version of this scene.

3d - Another small animation test

Hey again. This is the second small camera mapping test I have done. But still I need to learn about this a bit more because I dont have any idea of some features that I know it's made with camera mapping, but I can't do it (yet).

I also had the problems with defocus node. It won't work with this kind of scene and I have no idea why. So I used traditional blur and few separated render layers.

Here is few pictures. The mushroom scene and the cow scene.

The two big cubes are particle emitters.

This scene actually needs more work. I will do it if i somehow think that this scene would

3d - Short animation scene "Death soldier" part III

Hey folks!

It has been lot time of my previous post, but now I have some news, so I can write.. :)

The "death soldier" scene stopped to the ivies ause I were too lazy to model them all by myself.
But I knew that there is also the program called "an ivy generator".

Simply the program just "grows" some ivies on the model you choose and you can edit from the settings how they do it. Very fast and very easy. My problem of that was the materials. Because an ivy generator is not a blender plugin, it is intependent program. So you must set the materials by yourself in blender. Blender material settings can be very confusing for me kind of beginner...

Probably I would not ever figure how to do that material thing correctly by myself without this nice tutorial.
So here we go!

The first one ever:

The problem of that was in scaling. I did mess it somehow and now some times the ivies grow trough the marble, but i dont care because this scene was just test.

Second problem was that the leaves actually "fly" without sense around and are not connected with the wooden parts of the ivies. I dont know better solution for that than just make smaller leaves and ingrease the count of them so it looks better.

Here is the test with the Death soldier:

After that I realised that I can't do it with only one ivy. The ivy generator every time does the biggest mess in the place that you have been set as the beginning point. No matter what settings you are using. So if i wanna make the effect i want to, i need to set few ivies to the different places around the model.

But still there is maybe too much stuff around my model. Actually in some views you cant even see the model trough the ivies...
So I still must play with the ivies lot of time.
I will show the results some day here when i have time to write again.

GPU-rendering

It is intresting because the rendering of the games are
not done with the CPU (Central Processing
Unit). They are rendered with GPU (graphicalprocessing unit) and something like
60-100 frames / second. The rendering process of the movies can
easily take about 60 minutes / frame of your life with CPU-rendering.
So the graphic cards of computers have become in these days so
powerfull, that it may be better that we start inventing rendering
softwares not anymore using CPU for the rendering process, but GPU .

Actually I am sure that if the rendering
developement goes like this in the future also, then we will forget
the word "rendering" in the 3d-modeling process. With the future
programs we can model everything as we model today, but then we are
working with the full working materials and settings while modeling. So the
process will be more and more similar with the real world.

Image-Based 3D Photography

Scanning 2D-photos to the 3D is actually
really old invention. (if anything in the computer world can be
called old) We have seen many of different projects about
3d-scanning, but all of these have been focused for the professional
movie making etc. so all the amateurs just have to wait until
someone can make so cheap system that everyone can
buy and use it.

Photosynth

Also Microsoft have done some intresting
research work about 3D-photography.

Their project name is
Photosynth. Idea about this wonderful technology is that the admin of this utility does not take the photos. He just only provides their processing capasities for the people who has the photos.
Okay, good examble would be
The Colosseum in Rome. So, we have 1000 people who have been in the
Colosseum and they all have uploaded their photos to Facebook or
other same kind of place. Then they just have to upload their photos
to photosynth and it generates 3d model of the
whole place.

Video based 3d-objects

Video/movie is actually same than just
taking 24 photos in second (PAL) or 30 photos in secod (NTSC). So
with using video we can do more detailed 3d models in the shorter
time period than just messing around with ordinary camera and taking photos.

3D-printing

Some day you will model
full working 3d-porche and then you realised that you did 6 months
of full time work with your model, but you still can't touch it or
start driving. It is just only the picture on your computer screen
until...

3D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier to use
than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers offer

Okay, it can be bossible that you ever can't print your full
working 3d-porche in the real world, but no worries, you can use it
in the other way in some computer programs. Probably in the future in every home is one 3d printing device and you can buy models from the internet stores and just print it. Maybe that closer of teleportation we cannot ever reach.

3D-internet

Today internet is somehow really different world than our real world. I
believe that in the future internet will be also more and more
going to be similar with the real world where we are living,
because for human being it is more natural to go and remember
things in the 3d world, than in the 2d.

Or it is for me, because I have photographic memory.
It means that I can remember easily what kind was the shop inside where I visited year ago, but
hard to remember my bank account number.
First we will see more and more differend and innovative 3d worlds that we can use traight
with the browser. Then you shall see that the worlds will be linket
together, so you can go from the world to the another without
leaving the 3d space.

Then, some innovative big or small company
invests for their internet pages and models paraller version of
their internetpages by the 3d-technology.

Let's think that the company is a bank. (I know, we all have in our mind the idea that 3D =
game, but just fall with me to this thought experiment)

So when you
type the internet address of that bank to the browser and press enter
you'll fastly see that you're actually in the street and straight
front of you is the bank.

It is similar with the real world bank,
you can see all the logos and other things that you have seen in
the same company bank when you visited there last time, but this 3d
bank is still somehow more beautifull and shiny. You can see also other people with you
on the street and they are all going to that bank, you will follow them inside of the building.

Soon its your turn and you get teleported to the room where you are with your service agent. She will ask you

Have you ever wanted to touch your models or
edit them with your hands? Soon it will be possible, because
japanese scientists have invented in the university of Tokio
