There is a long-haired variety that is not as commonly known. The color is rare in dogs and is the result of breeding for a recessive gene. It has also lent the breed the nickname 'silver ghost' or 'gray ghost'. The coat is extremely low maintenance; it is short and smooth to the touch.

Typically, the male Weimaraner stands between 25 and 27 inches (63-68 cm) at the withers. Bitches are generally between 23 and 25 inches (58-63 cm). The breed is not heavy for its height, and weighs upwards of 70 pounds (32 kg). It is a relatively new type of dog, bred by various individuals since the mid-1990s. The Carlin Pinscher is a mixed breed whose main sources are the Miniature Pinscher and Pug (another such mix is the ‘Muggin’), with some other breeds later mixed in, such as the Boxer. ‘Pinscher’ is German for ‘Terrier’ and ‘Carlin’ is the name used for Pugs in some countries. The Carlin Pinscher is a very new breed which is still in development and not yet recognized by any major Kennel Clubs. In 1992, French breeder Isabeau Morgan and Hawaiian breeder Kawika Buenafe left their champion red Miniature Pinscher with their black Pug when on vacation. When they returned, they found that the dogs had bred, resulting in three puppies which had the appearance of a small Rottweiler. Grant Milionta was given one of these puppies, named Snooz, and grew quite fond of it, deciding to establish a new breed upon this line, called the ‘Carlin Pinscher’. Isabeau Morgan, Kawiki Buenafe, Grant Milionta, and others are now working with these dogs to establish a line of Carlin Pinschers which can be applied to the major Kennel Clubs.

Dog Breeds: Barbet

The Barbet stands 18 to 22 inches (46-56 cm) in height and weighs 33 to 55 pounds (15 to 25 kg). They come in three major color varieties: black, ASCOB (Any Solid Color Other than Black) and particolor. The other solid colours are chocolate, red, buff, and sable. Particolor dogs are all of the above colors and white. Black and tan, chocolate and tan, and tricolor (white, black and tan) are also common. Roan (black and white or red and white hairs intermingled) occurs rarely. The domed head, large dark expressive eyes, short deep muzzle, and abrupt stop are characteristic breed points. The coat is flowing, long, silky and abundant. The long, luxuriantly feathered ears are a striking breed feature. Some cockers bred for hunting tend to have shorter coats and a longer muzzles than pet or show cockers.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever has eyes that are very clear, of yellowish or amber hue, hindquarters as high or a trifle higher than the shoulders, and a double coat that tends to wave on shoulders, neck, back and loins. It is dense enough to be water-resistant. The color can be liver (often called chestnut), black (although any area of black is cause for disqualification in American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club sanctioned shows), or either color with white. Commonly the head is a solid or nearly solid color and the body is white that is speckled or ticked with liver or black, with saddles or large patches of solid color. Its tail is commonly docked, although this is now prohibited in some countries.

The breed is lean, athletic, and graceful yet powerful, with strong hindquarters that make it able to move rapidly and turn quickly. Various breed standards set its height at the withers anywhere between 21 and 26 inches (53 to 65 cm), making this a large breed. Adults typically weigh from 55 to 70 lbs (25 to 32 kg), with the bitch usually slightly shorter and lighter than the male.

Red Setter : Dog Breeds

The Red Setter is smaller than his bench-bred cousin. In some regions, these are considered four different varieties of a single breed; in other regions, they are considered a single breed.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes only the Groenendael under the name "Belgian Sheepdog", but also recognizes the Tervueren (with the alternative spelling "Tervuren") and the Malinois as individual breeds. Deciding on getting a pet, much less what type of pet, is a very tough decision. Once you and your family decide on getting a dog, it is important that you find the right dog that fits your family’s lifestyle. For those that have young children, you need to find a dog that is suitable and one you can trust. To help with your search, listed is information on five types of dogs that are the most suitable for having around young children.
1. Retrievers

This category consists of both Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers. Both dogs are loyal and devoted family members and can be easily trained. These dogs love the outdoors and will play very well with your young kids. Kids usually tend to have more patience with the dogs than adults, which will help the bond between the dog and the child and help to train the dog to behave properly. Retrievers make great companions for kids of all ages.

2. Poodles

Poodles come in a variation of sizes, which gives you the choice of what size of poodle would best suit your family. This breed can work with the best of them - hunting, swimming and retrieving! They are also extremely intelligent and do well in all dog sports. Their affectionate and patient nature makes them a great choice for families. Another plus with this breed is the lack of shedding.

3. Pug

Pugs are a smaller breed, yet have the personality of a big loyal dog. These stocky little wrinkled dogs have been described by breed experts using the Latin term “multum in parvo” (”much in little”). This breed is incredibly sociable, preferring the company of humans over other dogs or pets (though they usually do get along with them). They seem to have a special bond with children and love to play.

4. Irish Setter

This is a larger breed of dog, yet they are calm and love to be within a family. They are loyal and enjoy watching over young kids. These dogs are eager to please, so they are easily trained to follow commands and day-to-day

behavior. Originally, these dogs were bred for hunting, but they also make a great family pet.

5. Bichon Frise

The bichon frise is a smaller breed that looks like a big cuddly white fluff ball. They have happy-go-lucky spirits and are faithful and obedient. This breed stands out from other small dog breeds because of their lovable personality. The term refers to a group of dogs developed a for competitive dog fighting. Fighting Mastiffs were described by Caesar after his invasion of Britain in 55 BC and various types were developed in ancient Rome, China and Japan. As long as humans have raised dogs, we have raised protection and fighting dogs. The breeds include bull dogs, terriers and mastiffs. Bull dogs were developed as "catch dogs", dogs used to hold animals for a hunter or butcher to prepare food.

Terriers were developed to find and kill vermin and fur bearing animals for hunters and property owners. Mastiffs were developed to protect property and warn off poachers. Eventually, "catch dogs" were no longer useful and bull dogs were routinely crossed with terriers to develop a family pet that would also be agile and tough enough to be protective without being too large.
