Many of you know that I would like to do some freelance photography to gain some extra income. Also, many of you know that I work three jobs, but I'm not sure that I've ever really discussed my being a Virtual Assistant. I probably haven't discussed it much, because I only have one client right now. I am the Virtual Assistant for the attorney whom I worked for when I lived in Ohio. The situation works out wonderfully for both of us. In fact, it works so well, that I wish I could find more clients like him. If I had enough Virtual Assistance clients, I would be able to work from home and save a heck of a lot of money on fuel and save a lot of wear and tear on my vehicle.

In order to get more clients though, I would need to promote myself... a LOT... and then some more. I would need to have some brochure printing done to help explain to the prospective client what Virtual Assistance is and how it could benefit the client. Of course, my current VA client would absolutely sing my praises to any prospective client, but I would need to sing my own praises too. That's where I tend to have trouble. I'm very good at what I do, and once given the chance to do some work for someone, the work speaks for itself. However, it's that initial 'selling myself' that I have trouble with.

In addition to my promoting myself, I would also need to do mass mailings, post fliers, and of course, have some great business cards. I would definitely choose an online printing company for my small business printing needs. Anyone working on building a small business also works at keeping start-up costs down, and online printing through a company such as PsPrint is a less expensive solution than pricey print shops.

Now, if I just had the marketing skills (and self confidence) to get out there and promote myself and my work! Maybe once I have my website development certificate and can add website design to my list of services... maybe then I'll be ready to promote myself more. We'll see.

Mourning Appliances

Ugh. Our desktop computer died last night.
No, really... it's dead. There's no life support available for it. It's a lost cause.
It lived a good nine years, and we treated it well during that time.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. So, Hubs went to the basement and brought up the old computer that we had before the now deceased computer.
However, that didn't work either, as that computer is so old it doesn't even have an ethernet connection. *sigh*
Hubs also informed me that his cordless drill, which he uses constantly for work, died on Friday. Another appliance died too, but right now I forget what it was.
So, there's the three...
You see, my BFF and I used to notice that things regularly happened to us in threes. I didn't realize that it applied to dying appliances too, but apparently it does.
Poor, poor appliances.
You served us well.
You will be greatly missed... more than you know!

Well, I guess somebody sent these guys a notice telling them it was time. Time for cooking turkey, then decorating artificial christmas trees and hanging lights, and time for... cold weather and snow (UCK!). I was surprised last weekend when these guys flew over my head squawking the whole way, as if they were telling me goodbye for now... until we meet again next year. I had figured they had all flew south already, but apparently I was wrong. So, I gave them a wave and told them I'd miss them and that I wished I could head to warmer weather with them. hehe They weren't in a "V" formation though... just a line of geese flying in the sky. I've got news for them though - it's supposed to be almost 70 degrees on Saturday!!! WoooooHooooo That makes me a VERY happy girl!

I've been getting into taking photos of the changing leaves lately. Something I never really photographed before, but the colors keep catching my eye this year. So, whenever something catches my eye, I photograph it, whether it be animals, tractors, mobile homes, a cemetery gate (yes, I have lots of those photos), or even an interesting rock... and, yes, now we add leaves to that list.

On thing I do NOT care for about this time of year is the time change. I must admit that the time change this year seems to be affecting me more than it ever has in previous years. It is just very depressing to me to literally watch the entire process of the sun setting during my drive home (my drive home is 45 minutes). To me, the sun setting signifies the end of my day. I guess this is because I prefer to be outside, and if it's dark, I'm not outside. So, now, after leaving work, I feel like my day is over, when earlier I'd still have a couple hours of daylight left. Oh well, I shouldn't complain... I just miss having a little bit of daylight left after getting home from work. I guess this just means I'll have to appreciate and take advantage of the weekends even more!

Ruby Tuesday Berry Inspirational

Photography is my true passion, as most of you know. However, sometimes, when my life gets busy or I start fighting a bit of depression (like when the weather is changing), I put "my" things or "my" time on the bottom of the priority list. This, of course, leads to even deeper depression, because I'm not doing what I love.

With the weather changing, I feel a bit of that depression creeping upon me. So, I need to find some inspiration to push me to get out there and do what I love.

That's why memes are so wonderful. They challenge me and inspire me and cause me to go 'looking' for a photograph. It's therapeutic. So, I've decided to join the Ruby Tuesday meme. Will I have something red to post each week? I don't know - but it's a challenge, and it's going to be fun.

So, here is my first Ruby Tuesday contribution.

Macro Monday Glistening Wishes

I'm SO glad to find the time and be playing Macro Monday again! I LOVE macro photography, so I really, really enjoy this meme.

When I get certain photos, I think "Hmmm, that will be perfect for Macro Monday!" Unfortunately, lately, my photography, and especially my blogging has taken a backseat when things at my full-time job got very hectic. I was putting in extra hours there, coming home and doing my second job, and by dinner time, I was exhausted.

Anyway, enough of my whining. The photo below is one of those photos I took and thought it would be 'perfect for the Macro Monday meme'.

When I was young, we would catch these milkweed seeds, close our eyes and make a wish, and then blow the seed back into the air.

SOOC Sunday Bale & Flowers

I've decided to try a new Sunday meme. It's called Straight Out Of the Camera (SOOC) Sunday. I think I'm going to really, really enjoy this meme, as the only restrictions are: You take the photo yourself and no photo alterations/manipulations are allowed other than cropping - hence the "Straight Out Of the Camera" part.

So, here is my first entry for SOOC Sunday. There's just something about this scene that kept catching my eye, so I finally decided to photograph it. I guess it just appealed to the farm girl in me. It also reminds me of warm and sunny days... rather than the cold wintry days we have ahead (I don't like cold - I wouldn't even choose to go on a ski vacation). Besides, you can never go wrong with wildflowers!

I really enjoy going with Hubs when it's time to check cows. This means we drive through the pasture, making sure that no cows are having trouble giving birth and no calves have been born and ignored a.k.a. orphaned. Every once in awhile, we get an orphan calf who needs bottle fed, but not very often. Our herd seems to consist of some good mothers, who can be rather protective of their young uns. I love watching when "Mom" loses track of her baby, because it wandered too far away. She'll let out a bellowing moo, and all of a sudden, you'll see this little shiny black baby come running just as fast as its little legs will carry it. Then, Mom checks it over to make sure its O.K., and she probably gives it a little lecture about not getting out of sight like that anymore. ;-) They are protective of their babies, and there seems to be a sense of pride too. It's kind of like when humans have a baby, and the fathers proudly hand out cigars. I can just hear the debates in the pastures... "My bull can beat up your bull." or "My heifer is prettier than your heifer." *sigh* I think maybe I think about cows too much.

Over the weekend, when I thought I was over the flu, because my fever was gone, I decided to go for a walk. It was a beautiful day, as you can see by the pretty blue sky. However, I was unaware that with this nasty flu, even though your fever and some of the other symptoms are gone, you are still not quite over the flu, because the exhaustion hangs around... for a LONG time after the other symptoms. When I got back from the walk, I was completely wore out for the rest of the day. I was so exhausted (or bughausted as my one friend and I say) that I couldn't hardly function (let alone figure out what hid kits are), and I was asleep on the couch by 7:30 pm on a Saturday night! Yeah, I'm quite the party animal! Lemme tell ya, if you want a rockin' good time on Saturday evening, I'm your gal... ummm, up until 7 o'clock.

I was wrong last week. It is actually THIS week which is unfortunately the last week for Heads or Tails. It has been a fun and wonderful meme from start to finish - thanks to the hard work of the HoT hostess, Barb. Thank you Barb for everything you put into this meme.

Maggie said that when I snapped this photo, I may have thought that Maggie was just relaxing in the leaves on a nice fall day. However, she says I was completely wrong. She says she was watching a guinea pig in the distance, and she was contemplating what she was gonna chat with Hannah about the next time they got on their Mommy's computers without their Mommies knowing.

*sigh* I would have never known had she not confessed the truth.

I had actually spooked this and another deer unintentionally. I was walking along the woods, with my mind on the gate my husband had asked me to close for him. My mind and senses were not open as they would be when I'm on a walk looking for nature and wildlife. These deer got spooked and started to run, but this one decided to stop and check me out. I guess it thought it was well enough camouflaged to allow it to take some time to see what I was up to. So, we stared through the leaves and branches at each other for awhile, and then we both turned and went our separate ways.

Well, after this past week, I may need to go on a diet! OK, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I'm telling you - I've done nothing all week. I've just been on the couch feeling ucky. Yep, that flu is definitely no fun! Monday and Tuesday were gorgeous days... unfortunately, on Monday I was at work, and on Tuesday, I was on the couch. Today, however, it has been raining all day. So, I don't feel like I'm missing out on much today. I'm just hoping I'm getting better, because I really need to get back to work! It is totally unlike me to take this much time off, and it's really bothering me. So, I decided to do a Looking at the Sky on Friday post... to remind me of feeling good and beautiful days!

Guilty, Worry, & Flu

Guilt is a nasty thing with which I'm all too familiar. I'm home sick, yet again today, and I feel major guilty. Taking off two days in a row is something I just don't do. Am I sick? Yes. Would I feel more guilty if I went to work and someone else got sick as a result? Definitely. Will worrying and feeling guilty help the situation? Nope, not at all. However, I still can't shake the guilt I feel of not being at work. Talk about dedication, eh?

Before you start lecturing me about going to the doctor... I called a medical clinic, and the doctor advised that since I have no other major medical concerns, I need to just stay home and take over the counter medication. He said that since I am past 48 hours after the symptoms, they wouldn't give me the flu medicine. He also said that his son had this too, and they treated him at home, because he had missed the 48 hour window too. Geesh - everyone is sick. Also from what I've been reading and told, H1N1 comes with a high fever. My fever goes up and down, and at its highest is only around 100. So, I'm thinking I just have the regular seasonal flu, which I hope will be over very soon. I just want to get back to work. Even if I feel icky, I can work... I just need this bungi-cording fever to go away so I can go back and not worry about making others sick.

Guilt and worry... I think those are my middle names! Geesh

Do you recognize the watch in the above photo? If you are a fashion follower, then you probably recognized the watch immediately. That watch (and the wearer of that watch) has sparked a new fashion trend. The watch is called a toy watch. The well-known wearer of the watch who has been sparking many fashion trends? Well, she happens to be married to the President of the United States! Yep, the one and only Michelle Obama has been seen wearing this watch, and it has caused the popularity of the toy watch to soar. I'm sure you can guess my favorite thing about this watch... yep, it's purple! They are not all purple though; there are many different exciting colors and designs.

If you are a fashion follower, you'll want to check out these watches. They're going to be a big fall fashion trend according to NBC. They've become a big hit in Hollywood because they are fun, whimsical and exciting.

This isn't the first fashion trend Michelle Obama has started though. The fashion junkies have been watching her since she became the First Lady. AOL Beauty and Style even posted to tell readers how to 'get the look' after Michelle Obama visited the Jay Leno Tonight Show wearing J. Crew.

Our First Lady has admitted that she realizes she sets trends in the fashion world. What I think is interesting is that she says that she shops online! Here I thought only people like me, who live in the middle of nowhere, do their shopping online!

It has been rainy, cold, and plain ol' yucky here all week. Therefore, my walking time has been non-existent, and my critters photos are also non-existent. My post today has nothing to do with HAVC filters, but it does have to do with something very important... a cause that I support and ask that others support also. The cause is Pancreatic Cancer awareness.

Most of you know that the actor, Patrick Swayze recently gave up his fight with Pancreatic Cancer. Well, this cause has even more meaning for me, because shortly before Patrick Swayze's passing, my aunt gave up her fight with the same disease... leaving a family who misses and loves her very much.

Nowadays, most people are on Facebook. Therefore, I'm including the link to the Facebook cause page for Pancreatic Cancer awareness. If you are on Facebook, it would mean a lot to me if you joined this cause.

It's that time of year again for our farm... calving time. We are 'fall calvers'. Well, we personally aren't, but the cows on our farm are. So, every fall (we certainly hope and pray), we drive through our fields, watching out for little black speed bumps...

I often get met with a bit of attitude.
"Hey lady, zctly whatchoo think yur lookin at?"

As we drive, we try to count how many calves we have thus far. That always becomes interesting, because, you see, calves and cows are living creatures, and... they move. Try as I may, I can NOT get the cows and calves trained to line up for attendance. Nope, just ain't happenin'.

"Can't see you! Can't see you!
If I can't see you - you can't see me!"

If all works as it should, our fields should be dotted with around
90 calves by the end of calving season.

Looking at the Sky on Friday Waving Hello to Fall

Anyone know of any good online schedule type thing? OK, that was overly vague and confusing, wasn't it? Let's see if I can make more sense if I explain what I'm wanting to do. Bear with me here...

I've got a lot of responsibilities right now and also a lot of ideas for different things running around in my head. For now, they just keep running around up there, bumping into each other, and giving me a headache.

I'm thinking that if I give myself a schedule... and a timeline... and actually get it down in writing, I might get myself to start tackling some of those ideas, goals, and long-term responsibilities. Ideally, I'd have an online calendar or schedule - I'd be able to type in "HAVE to do's" and also type in "goal" dates. Then, ideally, there'd be some sort of reminder that would pop up each day and say "Yo Mist, this is what you need to get done today!" That would be ideal.

So, do any of you use anything like this? Or, am I just daydreaming of crazy ideas again?

Keep Your Pets Healthy

You see those beautiful girls in that photo? Well, they own my heart and soul. No matter what kind of mood I'm in, they bring a smile to my face. They love me unconditionally, and they are always ready to freely share that love with me, any time I need it.

Since I don't have human children of my own, I tend to think of my dogs as my kids. Yes, I know, some of you will think that's a bit strange. I've received comments before about how I think of my dogs. However, I don't care, and my dogs don't care what other people think either. ;-)

When you care about someone so much, you, of course, want to do everything in your power to take the very best care of them that you possibly can. That's why my dogs receive their monthly heartworm pills, in additional to flea treatments, etc. I usually order the dogs' meds online.

There's a website called Petmeds which goes above and beyond just selling medications to keep your pets healthy. When you visit their blog, you receive volumes of helpful and educational information. Is your cat sneezing constantly? Do you think your dog may have Lyme's Disease? Does your pet show symptoms of something, but you have no idea what it may be? Well, you can visit Petmeds and find answers to your questions. It's a very helpful blog. If you are like me, after visiting their blog, you'll also want to follow them on Facebook and Twitter, which is easily done by clicking on the buttons on the sidebar.

Well, I think of everything Hubs and I are 'building' here. We are building a life, building a home, building employment, building a farm, building dreams, building ideas, and building on wishes. We are all constantly building our lives... through family, work, ideas, hopes, wishes, and dreams. Yes, we are all in a constant state of construction.
