Nokia's New N97

Nokia likes to call their phones "mobile computers". I won't go that far with the new Nokia N97, but this is definitely the closest they've come. Combining a tilting 3.5-inch touch display with a full QWERTY keyboard, the N97 features 32GB of on-board memory, tons of apps and desktop-like widgets, integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, a 5-megapixel camera, and DVD-quality video capture. Is it just me but this phone looks way too familiar with the Dopod Sidekick. Yes?

I just stumbled a nice track on youtube while trying to find a new "House" material worthy to blog about. Thanks to Hed Kandi's Beach House Deeply Soulful Sundrenched Summer Listening CD # 81, I found this nice track called Sun In My Eyes.

To the rescue once again, MJ Cole embeds his musical background into this soulful Beach House work. What I can say? I'm loving this track right now. Vocal house never fails to amaze me. Congratulations for this nice remix.

Never Trust the Chinese

My initial reaction to Never Trust The Chinese Album by Mr.Meeble was kind of borderline offensive. Then again I thought this might be in reference to a joke about how people just blindly trust the Chinese when it comes to fortune cookies (which admittedly, I thought "that's so true..."). But once I got past the title, this Phoenix-based band intrigued me because they are a band, but utilize guest vocals, like electronic artists like Tricky and the Chemical Brothers.

Never Trust the Chinese have been out for months now, and can be purchased in a variety of format on their website. Fans of electronica should definitely check out Mr. Meeble which evokes Massive Attack''s "Mezzanine," Thom Yorke''s "Eraser" and possibly the ire of a billion people. Check out the awesome video for "I Fell Through." below.

Here's a little Up Dharma Down for a proper afternoon.

For those who don't know them, Up dharma Down is a band from the Philippines. They have been together since 2004.

The band got the name from the word Dharma, meaning the laws of life. In whatever case, it is a law that connects everything in existence no matter how diverse they are. This is how the band explains their music, having rather dissimilar musical influences that results into a dynamic sound that still meets halfway as it appeals to a certain group of listeners almost everywhere.

I love their music and it's a class of it's own. They're one of the reasons i'm proud to be a pinoy - real talent in every angle you'll look at it.

Good news for it's followers is that the release of their much anticipated second album is due sometime end of this year. It also includes the video below...

Quicksand By Natalie Walker

When I read about the song of the siren luring seafaring men to their doom in classic literature, I imagine singing like that of Natalie Walker. Her vocalization is gentle and sweet to the ears, and the only word I can find to describe her voice is dulcet. Add to that her physical beauty; she has the sort of fair complexion and big blue eyes that make you want to put your arms around her and protect her from the cruelty of the world. Her lyrics are personal and exhibit an emotional and spiritual maturity, and she has the uncanny ability to team up with gifted musician/composers.

So what's my take on the song? ...

Well the song begins with a solemn organ, and then progresses into a multi layered dirge as she laments, “I must have been so stupid / I must have been so out of touch / He must have been so clever / convincing me that this was really love.”

Natalie sings as she mourns her loss of innocence with a wholesome vulnerability. She fights her way through the haze between childhood and womanhood and declares, “I’ll rise from the sorrow / Let the sun shine on my face.” We can all take comfort from her newfound perspective. Yes?

Well, I've been on a tailspin since my Boss went for his annual vacation. There’s just so much to do on such little time. I admit I am a wreck right now and there's no excuse why I shouldn’t blog. Writing has been my passion and thus I should never neglect it come what may.

So what’s new? I’ve been itching to write a new post for the longest time now and it just feels so right to be back again.

Just in case you wondered why am I not posting so regularly, it's because lately I've been so 'Far Away' from my senses. Maybe it's the bad humid weather, intoxicating workload, back stabbing gibberish office mates or just perhaps I'm simply missing Manila. I can point a finger to anything but end of the day, happiness in life solely depends to a three letter word - Y O U. Oh well, guess I just miss being happy.

Forget the drama, here's my chill-out pick of the week from a band called 'All India Radio' and track's called Far Away.

Just to give you a background, All India Radio is a is a four piece from Melbourne, Australia which sounds like a mix of a little Portishead with a dash of Boards Of Canada & Cinematic Orchestra. Their music is breathtaking and this track Far Away offers a vocal that works beautifully over a loping groove and aching strings. It's emotive without being cloying and the way she sings and vocal delivery consistently tugs at the heartstrings. It's pretty gorgeous stuff isn't it?

I Choose You by Mario

Yet again another new track from Mario's new recording sessions has leaked on the internet. This track was leaked alongside with 'Promise Land' which I'll feature any time soon here in My Drift. So for today's featured track is a song called 'I Choose You'.

So what's my take on this latest single?

Well, this typical mid-tempo R&B ballad is yet another jack of Tatoo/Irreplaceable/Bye Bye and With You kind of track but then again, this song was produced by Stargate so obviously no surprises in the creativity department. Still, the track showcases those killer gorgeous vocals that Mario is very well known for.

Miss Independent by Ne-yo

'Year of The Gentleman' which happens to be Ne-yo's third studio album will be released on August 5th. Also, the official 2nd single from the set has now presented itself on the web. Lucky me I stumbled it on You-Tube and the song is called 'Miss Independent'.

What's the song all about? It emphasizes Ne-yo's appreciation for a woman who has her own motivation and goals. He likes a woman who "pays her bills on time" so to speak.

On regards with the single itself, the opening of the song has a similar instrumental to Janet Jackson's 'Luv' but I'm also hearing some 'Sexy Love' in there as well (his original sound). Moving into a more R&B-driven direction with the song, Miss Independent is in fact a nice track, which makes a pleasant change considering that a lot of his leaked stuff has been underwhelming (though I'll admit that the euro/pop sounding 'Closer' has now grown on me prior to it hitting no 1 in the UK recently).

Getting In Sync

My boss has finally left Doha and there are some speculation that it maybe for good. So what does this brings us? This ultimately means that me, accompanied by the other senior staff, is left to run and handle the finance department. Thing is, my colleague is acting strange on desperately trying to fill the void our Chief Accountant left us. It's just way too peculiar and resembles traits of a chameleon.

As human beings, we sometimes enjoy pretending to be other people on trying to see the world thru a different pair of eyes. But we set ourselves on a trap were we have to walk a fine line between pretending to be someone else and becoming someone that we are really not. Playing roles should be fun but we should never forget who we really are. My colleague (or the likes) should be seriously reading this advice.

On a lighter note, here's a catchy track from Plastic Operator. I definitely recommend you guys to watch this. Why? Just trust me on this one, you'll find out why. (like always)

Also, you can watch the band's first single after the fold if you'd please. That video will knock you out with amazement on "how on earth did they made that crafty video". Amazing stuff really. Clever.

Symmetry In Life

It's been a real struggle for me lately as I’m trying despairingly to humble the echoing voices in my head, or at least distinguish them for what they are - a chronic, annoying bewilderment.

Speaking of which, I stumbled Eckhart Tolle name on the net while browsing for some new materials for this blog. Just to give a quick background, he is knowed for the book he written entitled "Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" and the equally excellent written book called "The Power of Now".

I highly recommend you to read them both. Oh just in case you can't find the book, there's an interview done by Oprah with him which you can get on iTunes as free podcast downloads. You can download them by clicking here.
