A top-rate, exquisitely trashy and sexy Eurosleaze Gothic horror treat starring the gorgeously sleek'n'slender brunette hottie supreme Rosalba ("Slaughter Hotel") Neri as a wicked bisexual Translyvanian vampire countess who every year sacrifices five virgins in order to appease Satan and retain her immortality. Furthermore, the thoroughly luscious Ms. Neri regularly bathes in the pure maidens' blood to keep her youthful beauty. The eternally insipid Mark Damon offers twice the blandness as a studious, bookish dweeb and his more loose, fun-loving party hearty womanizing heel twin brother (guess which one falls under Neri's evil, yet irresistibly alluring spell and winds up being turned into a vampire while searching for a precious rare glowing magical red amulet that Neri possesses). Fortunately Damon's drabness is more than compensated for by the spooky, misty atmosphere (the sequence where a writhing nude Neri takes a bloodbath is truly striking and beautifully shot), a wonderful overabundance of gratuitous female nudity, a nice smattering of steamy soft-core sex, plentiful gory violence, some deliciously gaudy psychedelic visual flourishes (the occasional use of shaky hand-held camera and prowling panning shots likewise seriously smoke), a robust, rousing, sweeping orchestral score, a bang-up nihilistic surprise ending, and Neri's searingly hot and hypnotic screen presence. A scuzzy hoot.

Starting as a documentary on the sexually liberated culture of late-Sixties Denmark, Sexual Freedom in Denmark winds up incorporating major elements of the marriage manual form and even manages to squeeze in a montage of beaver loops and erotic art. All narrated with earnest pronouncements concerning the social and psychological benefits of sexual liberation, the movie, is a kind of mondo film dotted with occasional glimpses of actual sex. Tame by the standards of 1971, when adult loops and features would begin to flood certain metropolitan markets, the film was shocking enough in 1970 to instigate media attention and long lines at the box office.

This movie is about the morality, education, and responsibilties pertaining to sexual freedom. Not only that, it has the most amazing child birth sequence that could and should be used as a training tool and viewed by anyone that is interested in the miracle of child birth. This very insightful movie should be shown in school sex education programs internationally along with material already being presented in that forum, and is and all around must see for anyone deemed mature enough. It is a great introduction to various pertinent aspects in the sexual arena. It's delightful!

No, they don't do movies like this anymore. A tough one about self-hatred, mayhem and self- destruction: Franco Nero as a down-&-out reporter, Corinne Clery as his sexy, completely hollow spouse, plus David Hess doing his usual good- humored-and-mean-as-hell thing. "Autostop Rosso Sangue" is sleazy, sexist, ultra-violent, but not without some unforgettable moments: The naked Clery in front of a trailer holding a huge rifle in the middle of the night is like a hastily written, edgy but brilliant poem found in a tattered paperback left in a cheap motel. For a few short hours in his life, Pasquale Festa Campanile, creator of some of the worst Euro comedies ever, turned into a poète maudit of the most cynical kind. This is the kind of grindhouse cinema nobody can embrace with seventies nostalgia: mature, brutal, knowing, never "cool", always cold, gripping and utterly nihilistic. Anything else you would ask for?

How can one go wrong with cackling disembodied heads, graphic scythe murders, zombie mayhem, and luscious babes roaming the night in their sheerest Frederick's of Hollywood naughties? Grand entertainment, as only the Europeans of the 1970s could create, and an absolute must-see for fans of crazed drive-in culture...there's not a single frame of the film which doesn't look like it was ripped straight from the pages of a Golden-Age horror comic book, and hooray for that.

Caleb, "son of nobody" (Enrico Montesano) lives in Galilee in Jesus' day and struggles as a thief and con-man, pretending to be a magician. When he witnesses Jesus turning water into wine, he thinks he's found a competitor. So Caleb goes on, convinced that Jesus is a fake just as he is, always trying to figure out his tricks. In the meantime, he gets involved with a prostitute (played by Edwige Fenech), but also with the wife of a Roman patrician (played by the equally alluring Bernadette Lafont), he steals a few goats and cons a few people, he befriends a lovable dog and gets in trouble with some Roman soldiers. In the end, he is convicted for theft and crucified, ending up on Jesus' right. Manages to steal a necklace and then lose it and find Deborah with whom he shared his life. Always fascinated by the figure of Christ, continue to believe that a magician cleverer than him, will end on the cross with him an old man accused of theft. So, it's kinda like "Life of Brian", only with italians.

Candide is a nice, innocent young man who is raised in a castle of a noble family in Westphalia during the medieval age. The makers of this movie base the film on a cynical satire `Candide' from the French writer Voltaire. Directors Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi are known for their documentaries in which they have already presented the horrors of the world: MONDO CANE (part 1 and 2), AFRICA ADDIO and the very revolting ADDIO ZIO TOM. In comparison with other shockumentaries, all these movies are very well directed, have a racy comment and contain unforgettable images. "Mondo Candido" is a masterpiece. It's sensational, sometimes shocking but you will see a series of unforgettable images, very beautifully filmed, even though they are cruel, nihilistic and pessimistic. The superb musical score from Riz Ortolani is available now, but it is very difficult to find this exceptional movie.

In 1973, the film "Coffy" made Pam Grier a star, a permanent icon of the blaxploitation films of the era, and a symbol of female empowerment in the face of racial tension. She also kicked a whole lot of tail. Writer and director of "Coffy", Jack Hill, had finished a script for a sequel when the studio decided at the last minute that it didn't want to film a sequel to "Coffy." Re-working his script, Hill gave birth to what could arguably the seminal female blaxploitation film: "Foxy Brown."

Foxy Brown (Pam Grier) is a strong woman striving for a better world. While she attempts to help her drug-dealing brother Link (Antonio Fargas) change his ways, she waits for her federal cop boyfriend Dalton (Terry Carter) to recover from plastic surgery designed to hide him from the drug lords he informed on. Renaming himself Michael, he plans to run away with Foxy to a new life. All of his plans crumble, however, when Link discovers Michael's true identity, and informs on him for a hefty sum to the devious Miss Katherine (Katheryn Loder) and the suave Stve Elias (Peter Brown). When Katherine's goons kill Michael in Foxy's house, Foxy swears revenge. She infiltrates a call girl ring run by Katherine in an attempt to bring the crime lord down in the name of vengeance.

Hill has created an iconic character in Foxy Brown, a character who has been copied and referenced to varying degrees of success since her inception (most shamefully in Beyonce Knowles' character of Foxy Cleopatra in "Austin Powers in Goldmember"). It's not difficult to see why. As embodied by Grier, Foxy is the ultimate female: beautiful, sexy, intelligent, and undeniably fierce. Grier is such a pleasure to watch on screen that you sometimes forget about the lack of support she has around her or the simplistic morals of the story.

Loder's Miss Katherine Wall is a villainess of operatic proportions, filled with delightful malice and sadistic impulse. Brown's Steve is just as good, every inch the handsome mid-70s man. Fargas is also memorable as the weasely and cowardly Link, but outside of these three, the supporting players are only adequate. While Junita Brown's doomed call girl has her moments, the rest of the supporting cast is fairly flat, with line readings not having the right amount of emotion (either too much or too little) and often hitting just off-key of the psychological and emotional core that they need to strike.

While Hill's script taps deep into the racial biases of the 70s, and is filled with the appropriate amount of slang and tension, his characters are often moral absolutes with little in shades of grey or complex motivations. Often, this exists on a similar plane to race: with the exception of Dalton/Michael's fellow agents, every white person in the film is shown as uncaring at best, evil of the highest order at worst. By the same token, with the exception of Link and a fellow dope dealer, the black characters are heroic and upright. In the context of the film, the conceit is appropriate, but it can lead to some viewers being upset or failing to take into account the politics of the time that would lead to such a depiction and dismissing the film out of hand.

Despite these flaws, "Foxy Brown" is definitely a film to watch not just for historical value, but for the remarkable performance of Pam Grier, an actress just as strong and beautiful today as she was in 1974. Whenever she's on the screen, you immediately forget about any imperfections in the movie. As the theme song says, she is "superbad." And that's good.

The story takes place in Shanghai. A girl loves a rich and much older man (played by Kinski). She is willing to do everything he wants to show her love, but he is playing a sick game with her. As part of this game he sends her to a Chinese brothel. A poor young boy sees her and falls in love with her. To get the money needed to sleep with her, he joins "the revolution". Additionally the movie shows the fate of some of the other prostitutes.

This film has less S and M and bondage than the original "Story of O", but the sex scenes are much more graphic. There is one obviously unsimulated oral sex scene and another "missionary" scene with Kinski and Illiers that looks pretty unsimulated as well. If you consider this a hardcore porn film, it is a veritable masterpiece. The cinematography is excellent and the musical score is good. There are a lot of poetic images--for instance, a long shot of a dead bird floating in the bay outside the convent, and later a surreal Jean Rollinesque image of a drowned woman floating on a grand piano (?!) in this same bay. Most hardcore porn films wouldn't bother with such arty digressions. As an art film though, which this is also obviously trying to be, it is less successful, mostly because all the characters are pretty thinly drawn.

A South Bronx gang rape and kill the residents of an isolated tenement. The tables turn and the surviving residents viciously despatch the gang. There is a gruesome scene depicting the repeated stabbing of the leader with a TV aerial followed by a lightning strike for good measure.

"Tenement" is hostile, mean-spirited exploitation in which the cheapness of production is only surpassed by the brutality in tone. Also known as "Slaughter in the South Bronx", this nasty movie perfectly lives up to his reputation of shocking urban horror class-sick! The story opens with a gang of thugs being arrested for drug-abuses and other insane felonies committed in the basement of an apartment complex. The other tenants hope that this will finally mean the end of all crime in their neighborhood, but the gang returns the exact same night already and plots annihilate everyone in the building. The first half hour seems slow and not at all eventful but, in reality, you feel that the tension is being build up towards a claustrophobic highpoint that'll stand for pure mayhem.

"Tenement" is very extreme with some of the most disturbing death-scenes ever shot on film. Luckily the special effects are so weak, because the violence is already shocking enough in concept. There's a woman raped and barbarically beaten to death, other tenants are stabbed with rusty pokers and one guy dies after a seriously sick heroine-shot. Furthermore, we have slit throats, electrocution and a truly repulsive castration. Yikes!! There are no real heroes among the tenants and you feel like every character has an equal chance to die (and they most likely WILL before the movie is over). Egon Schiele Exzess und Bestrafung, also known as Egon Schiele Excess and Punishment (English) and Egon Schiele, enfer et passion (French) is a 1980 film based on the life of the Austrian artist Egon Schiele. It stars Mathieu Carriere as Schiele with Jane Birkin as his artist muse Wally and Christine Kaufman as his wife Edith and Christina Van Eyck as her sister. The film is essentially a depiction of obsession and its constituents of sex, alcohol and uncontrolled emotions.Set in Austria during the Great War, Schiele is depicted as the agent of social change leading to destruction of those he loves and ultimately of himself.

The final years of the short life of Egon Schiele, the Austrian expressionist painter are chronicled against the backdrop of the final years of the Habsburg rule. The story begins around 1912 as Schiele (Mathieu Carriere) and his mistress and artistic muse Wally (Jane Birkin) are befriended by an obsessed teenage girl (Nina Fallenstein) who has run away to be with Schiele.

Subsequently Schiele is imprisoned on the grounds that he has behaved in a sexually improper way towards the young woman.The young women falsely accuses Schiele and although he denies the charge he is imprisoned. The girl withdraws her accusations but Schiele is requested to leave the area as he has offended the social mores of the conservative society in which he was living. Those offended include his mother (Angelika Hauff) who rails against his lax morals.

On his release his excesses continue although he fights (literally) to conform even volunteering to serve in the Austrian army in the Great War. As a soldier Schiele cuts a pathetic figure and he is quickly removed as unsuitable. He disposes of his alcoholic mistress and has an affair with a society beauty who ultimately abandons him as she can not cope with his sexual obsessions. Schiele's emotional cruelty is exposed as he shuns Wally as she nears death.Their parting scene at a Vienna social gathering reveals a corruption and cruelty that is at the heart of Schiele's artistic soul.

Schiele's paintings however develop greater depths as he pushes his body and emotions to their limit. Whilst his paintings are gaining acceptance (and many now hang in the Leopold Museum in Vienna[1]) his own sanity suffers. He marries and appears to find a modicum of contentment until his wife Edith (Christine Kaufman) dies in the 1918 Spanish Influenza pandemic. Schiele makes love to his dying wife in a scene that is tender yet shocking, evoking a central theme of Schiele's work: a link between sex and death.

The very limited plot of Blue Rita concerns a Parisian nightclub, named, appropriately, Blue Rita, where powerful and important men are captured by the club's dancers and trapped in a cage. Once in this place, a victim is doused in a green liquid that induces hypersexuality, causing him to become so desperate for sex that he is unable to resist the demands of his captors. In this way the ladies of the club get money and information from their victims, and in turn get more money for this information by selling it to a mysterious man interested in obtaining it.

The Blue Rita nightclub is lorded over by Blue Rita herself, a pretty, blue-haired lesbian. After a prostitute is killed while trying to escape the club, Rita decides that a new girl must be taken on. In this interest she hires Sun, a pretty young girl whom she is quite attracted to. When a world-famous wrestler is captured by the girls, Sun is left with the responsibility of seducing him into giving in to Rita's monetary and informational demands; however, Sun takes quite a liking to this fellow and decides to secretly have sex with him in order to help him resist the influence of Rita's potion. Soon after this, Sun, in helping the wrestler escape, reveals herself to be a spy, which understandably causes Rita great consternation. All of this leads to a final confrontation just bursting with double-crosses and secret motives, wherein it's revealed that very few players are the people they seem.

If the plot sounds a little clunky, that's because it is. Luckily, plotting really isn't an issue in a film like this. Style is more important here than substance, and if there's one thing Blue Rita has going for it, it's plenty of that strangely wonderful 70s Euro-cult style. Blue Rita contains a lot of the Franco-isms that, in my limited experience with this director's oeuvre, I had heard about but not yet encountered. We get one of those oh-so-infamous sex-through-a-fish-tank scenes (I never would have thought they would be so strangely compelling), as well as plenty of revealing up-angles from the prisonersâ cage, and, on top off all this, plenty of sex as well.

Indeed, sex is most obviously the point of Blue Rita, as its stuffed to the brim with it. I can think of very few movies that have as much nudity (by ratio) as this does; indeed, I would estimate probably 80% of the film contains nudity of some sort. The characters also find plenty of opportunities to get frisky with each other, yet, in the end, it always stays in good fun, with the scenes, while fairly graphic, never going hardcore (though in a scene or two I wondered if the actors were aware of that).

Of course, Blue Rita is in no way a perfect film. Effects are pretty terrible, pacing is erratic, it's rather confusing at times and the ending seems rushed and will probably leave you scratching your head (I was). Still, I didn't come into this film expecting art or even coherence; I was planning on getting a good dose of low-budget weirdness and I came away more than satisfied. Anyone looking for a strange, artsy, fascinating piece of sexploitation schlock as only the 70's can deliver should feel the same way.

While it may not be a paragon of cinema, Blue Rita is nevertheless a cool little 70's throw-back for fans of cheesy, sexy cinema, as well as a rare gem that should make any Franco-phile as delirious with pleasure as the men Blue Rita douses in her ooze. Fans of Franco or no, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

Science has announced the discovery of a lost land hidden inside the warm pocket of a dormant volcano under the polar ice cap. Masten Thrust, a billionaire oil tycoon and big-game hunter, is recruited to lead a team there to study the last living dinosaurs. Upon arriving, Thrust and his team find that the hidden world is populated with both dinosaurs and prehistoric humans. While the humans give the explorers a fair bit of trouble, the real danger is the hungry tyrannosaur intent on making lunch out of the Great White Hunter and his crew.

The Last Dinosaur was one of those "out of nowhere" movie-of-the-week films in the 1970's that was pretty exciting for the time especially to fans of Japanese Tokusatsu films. Originally slated for a theatrical release (around when the Dino King Kong was out in the previous December) it was suddenly pulled and made into a Friday Night ABC Movie of The Week. Rankin Bass-who were no strangers to Japanese co-productions were the guns behind this production, co-produced with Tsuburaya Productions of Japan-the people who brought us Ultraman in various forms. Starring mostly an American cast including the late Richard Boone, Joan Van Ark and the late Steven Keats, it told the tale of a prehistoric pocket of time in what was a superheated volcanic caldera somewhere at the frozen arctic circle, containing dinosaurs. It plays a lot like the films The Land Unknown(1956) and The Land That Time Forgot(1975) in feel and pace. Sure the dinosaurs were guys in suits(A Triceratops with front knees!) but they were filmed in such a way, the music and score was so well done, and the cast did a fine job that this didn't matter much to many of us brought up on Godzilla. The film has a lot of class to it, from the opening score by Nancy Wilson "The Last Dinosaur" to the overall "big" feeling of the film-the locations at hot springs in Northern Japan were excellent and lush- and the undeniable feeling of Kaiju Eiga to it. There are some amazing set pieces-the T-Rex's "bone yard" and a tracking shot that takes us deep into the jungle to see the T-Rex eat a giant fish from a stream. Tsuburaya's FX people did their job in style here and aside from a few dodgy matte shots, they do their job well. This film is considered the best 1970's "kaiju" film from Japan, even over the five Godzilla films made during that decade. Rankin Bass did several other co-productions with Tsuburaya providing the creatures or miniatures- The Bermuda Depths(1978) and The Ivory Ape(1980)-but neither measured up to the epic look of this film.

If you remember the great Lee Marvin movie "Point Blank" you'll recognize the "pipe-smoking assassin" character originally played by James B. Sikking. As you watch "Death Machines" you find yourself constantly reminded of some of the great scenes or clichés you've seen in other movies. It's almost as if the makers just grabbed a handful of as much fun stuff as they could remember from other movies and tossed it all into one. Of course it makes for one very silly and (in that context) very entertaining movie. Can you see actress Mari Honjo actually biting the blood capsule after she is shot? Clearly this is one of the reasons she has never been seen on the screen again. Or anywhere else, at least lately. C'mon, how can you not appreciate a movie with a one-armed bartender?

Amazing stuff! Purports to be a documentary with a psychiatrist interpreting the bizarre newspaper stories of rape, orgy, bestiality, bit more rape, S&M, more orgy (pretty good actually) and a someone pretending to iron his lady's nightie with her still in it and someone pretending to be a dog- oh and a threesome where the two men get it off. Along the way we get to see more glorious minis, both skirts and dresses than I've ever seen in one film and hardcore sequences.

In her first onscreen adventure, journalist/photographer Mae Jordan (known to her readers as "Emanuelle") travels to Africa on assignment. Questions of her own racial and sexual identity come to a head as she observes the troubled marriage of her hosts, Ann and Gianni Danieli. Matters are complicated further when Emanuelle finds herself in affairs with both of them, after which she flees Africa, only to be persued by Gianni, who had earlier rejected her and ridiculed her advances.

The first of the Italian rip-offs of the French soft porn blockbuster (though it might be interesting to note that the boot-shaped country actually got their first with Cesare Canevari's 1968 IO, EMMANUELLE starring Erika Blanc) is a very different kettle of fish than the sleazy sequels provided by the late, questionably great Joe D'Amato. It is much closer in spirit to the now very dated Just Jaeckin film from 1973, taking a pokerfaced look at male/female relationships, questioning such then hot topics as fidelity and jealousy, all in luxurious exotic surroundings. Unlike D'Amato, director Albert Thomas (aka Adalberto Albertini, who also made the hard to find YELLOW EMANUELLE, actually a sexed-up version of MADAME BUTTERFLY !) does not present us with predatory drug lords, snuff movie makers or rampaging cannibals, making for an admittedly less sensational yet far more erotic viewing experience.

Production on this sexploitation classic is quite impressive, especially the superb cinematography. And Nico Fidenco's musical theme is a solid favorite of anyone with more than a passing interest in the genre, a hilarious Eurotrash pop ditty (try to make out those totally nonsensical lyrics and have a full evening's worth of fun with the family !) that turns up throughout the entire film in every conceivable type of rendition from slow 'n' sexy to hip-gyrating disco.

This is entirely Laura Gemser's show though. Billed simply as 'Emanuelle' (as was another actress on the same director's elusive EMANUELLE NERA 2), she lights up the screen from start to finish.

Hey! Want to see a bizarre blend of Sci-Fi, S&M and drooling psychedelic hardcore madness? (I didn’t think so.) But The Sex Machine is breathtaking in its weirdness. It reaches new levels of fucked-upness.

Take a gander at this plot. "The Meadows Foundation" is a research laboratory run by dedicated scientist Dr. Flanders and his shapely assistant Dr. Phyllis Alcott (CHERI ROSTAND), an Ivory Snow blonde. The place was named after their leader, Dr. Meadows, "an underground practicing abortionist."

The two doctors, dressed in lab coats and clutching clipboards, conduct experiments on "surrogates" - people whose libidos are damaged. Mainly, they hook up battery cables to naked, spread-eagled women.

Dr. Flanders’ greatest creation is a scary gadget called The Sex Machine. It looks like a jukebox with blinking lights, wires, buttons and vacuum cleaner hoses glued to it. The Sex Machine can "photograph the interior of the vagina" and "can heal frigidity". Wait, there’s , more. Jutting out of the middle of the gizmo is a long spinning dildo. Women are strapped down and impaled by the device which burrows into their love canals.

Popping up every now and then during the film is a female narrator who says weird things like, "According to one estimate, 18 thousand females in the United States are born without a vagina."
Trouble comes to paradise when Dr. Alcott’s ex-roommate Jessica Waters (DEBRA CHRISTIAN), volunteers as a surrogate. In college, Jessica would get high and attack Phyllis with a vibrator. "Jessica would masturbate directly over my head, laughing hysterically."

Little do they know that Jessica is a snarling dyke known as "Big Daddy". She has a zest for inflicting pain on women. (A flashback shows her in action and gives new meaning to the term "pussy-whipped".)

Just when you think it can’t get any stranger, it does. Jessica has intense multiple orgasms on The Sex Machine. She becomes addicted to it. They expel her from the clinic: "It was obvious she was insane." Dr. Alcott goes over to Jessica’s house to try and reason with her. Bad move. There’s a wild biker orgy in progress. Phyllis comes face to face with Jessica’s alter ego Big Daddy, who calls her "twat face." Phyllis tastes the pain of the whip then gets gang-banged by the bikers.

Big Daddy sneaks into the laboratory and sets it on fire, strapping herself to The Sex Machine. "If I can’t have it, nobody will!" The machine short circuits, electrocuting her. Comments Dr. Flanders, "She seduced herself to death".

FUEGO's director Armando Bo has been called Argentina's answer to Russ Meyer, and the stunning (and, yes, well-endowed) star of FUEGO,Isabel Sarli, would not at all be out of place in a Meyer film. One is even tempted to describe FUEGO as a South American version of Meyer's VIXEN, in that both films depict the exploits (or sexploits) of an insatible, irrestible woman. On the down side, Bo lacks Meyer's flair for disorientating camera angles and rapid-fire editing, but nonetheless, FUEGO features enough inventive camera work and (of course)gratuitous nudity to keep the viewer alert, and contains moments that are erotic and disturbing -- often at the same time! Overall, by no means a masterpiece, but a provocative and even compelling step above most so-called "nudie-films."

Suddenly Laura Mars can see through the eyes of a serial killer as he commits his crimes. She contacts the police and with the aid of a police detective, tries to stop the killer. But first, they have to figure out who it is.

This 1978 chiller directed by Irvin Kerschner (The Empire Strikes Back, RoboCop II) and based on a story by John Carpenter, has Faye Dunaway as a fashion photographer who suddenly discovers that she has the ability to "see" through the eyes of a serial killer. All her premonitions of the murders are very accurate, and the victims are all people she knows. Soon it becomes apparent the killer is coming after her. Tommy Lee Jones is great as the police lieutenant/love interest (back when his face wasn't pockmarked with age), and the supporting cast (Raul Julia, Brad Dourif) is excellent. The movie's depictions of the murders were quite shocking for it's day, and it manages to keep us scared and in suspense throughout, though some of the scenes border on grotesque. Direction by Kirschner is tight, music is suitably eery, and the performances are overall impressive. A winner

Makavejev in Sweet Movie hurtles us head first into the confronting theses of Post-Freudian Wilhelm Reich. We are forced to confront our relationship to our primal beings. He literally smears our consciousness with faeces, vomit and carnality.

We cannot watch orgiastic scenes of regressive acts, a sensual striptease played out inches from the faces of young boys, Carol Laure masturbating in a pool of molten chocolate without a visceral reaction. We are forced to confront our own repressed desires and shine a light in the dark recesses of our own psyche.

Here is revolution at it's most personal, montaged together with lashings of wild humour. Allow your head to give up control and come along for the ride. Recommended to anyone who is willing to put their concept of themselves on the line a risk a flirtation with prurient madness.

Transfer student Monami has a secret and a past that has caught up with Mizushima. Japanese culture is as bizarre as it gets, among the various oddities that have sprung from it are game shows which consist of male contestants being whacked in the genitals and animated pornography, termed "hentai", whose various sub genres involving bestiality and lactation have become widely popular amongst the population. Hell, they even sell toilet paper with short horror stories printed on it for god knows what reason. This utterly insane culture extends into their film as well and one doesn't have to look any further than Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl for an example of how depraved, grotesque and downright "weird" their movies can get. There are very few American-produced films that can match the sheer lunacy occurring within this "versus" circus freak show. Continuing in the tradition of previous hyper-violent, excessively-sexual Japanese horrors centered on attractive school-girls (popular films like The Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police), Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl throws a whole bunch of other peculiarities into the mix, including blackface, a kabuki mad scientist who air guitars using his victims spinal cords, an oversexed nurse with eyeballs sewn onto her nipples, a wrist-cutting competition, and copious amounts of blood equal in proportion to the accumulation of ten regular horror movies. If it isn't one of the strangest films of all time, it certainly is of this year.

Romano Scavolini's "Nightmare" is one of the grimmest horror movies ever made. Baird Stafford is extremely believable as George Tatum, a schizophrenic serial killer who murders uncontrollably. He has been supposedly cured of his psychological disorder due to a new magical medicine. In actuality the cure doesn't work very well, because Tatum starts killing people. "Nightmare" isn't as good as "Maniac"-still there are some genuinely atmospheric and chilling moments. The opening scene is extremely creepy. The killings are cold-blooded and brutal. The gore is pretty strong, the climatic double axe murder scene is incredibly gory. To sum up,if you're a fan of early 80's extreme horror give this one a look. Highly recommended.

Directed at a breakneck pace, Hua Shan predicts the hyper-kinetic films from HK in the 1990''s. The film shows a good bit of style and production values. If the story wasn't completely confusing at times it would be quite enjoyable for fans of wacky HK films. At least something unexpectedly odd happens every few minutes. For fans of Shaw wuxia action, there is quite a bit of it and the fight choreography of Hsu Hsia is very good. Ching- Ching Yeung, a very talented Wu Shu performer, appears in the last third of the film for a great fight scene and she carries one of the oddest weapons I've seen. Jenny Liang plays the star prostitute and spends her lengthy first scene half naked or mostly naked. She's quite comfortable unclothed unlike many Shaw nudie actresses of the time who seem like they are thinking of the robe just off the set. And she goes straight into a near naked demonic possession scene. After that she remains clothed. But when the film is in the last third and your mind starts to wander back to her first scene, the film has her take all her clothes off in a cavern of mirrors! Now that's service.
