Healthcare programs are the hot educational commodity right now as young and adult learners alike search for training for secure, high-demand, and high-paying job. The aging baby boomer population is one of the many reasons healthcare is booming, and hospitals, private practitioners, pharmacies, and other healthcare locales are hiring faster than the graduates can turn out – for pay that keeps up with the rising costs of student loans.

Some of the other exciting reasons healthcare education and jobs are the hot market:

Advancement of technology requires more trained workers

Hospital budgets are calling for more nurses, assistants, and other support roles in place of doctors

Rural populations are growing and in need of healthcare professionals

Healthcare reform is making healthcare insurance accessible, and spiking the demand as healthcare insurance plans are put to use

With this kind of job security, high pay, and guaranteed career growth, students are heading leaps and bounds towards the healthcare industry. But there's one massive question every aspiring healthcare worker has to tackle:

What healthcare career should I go to school for?

The following are Five Nursing and Healthcare Degree Programs to get you started on your ideal education and career search.

Registered Nurse Associate Degree. The beauty to the registered nurse, which can be pursued through an associate degree or vocational training, is that you can later go back to school in an RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) or RN to MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) program to further your educational and professional goals. Registered nurses are also in huge demand, especially in rural regions.

Medical Billing and Coding Associate Degree. Another one-to-two-year-program, medical billing and coding specialists are taking over the healthcare job market with expertise in medical terminology, administrative duties, and accounting.

Healthcare Administration Master Degree. If you've already acquired your bachelor degree in a field that seems useless in today's competitive job market, consider an MBA in Healthcare Administration. This specialized master degree program opens the doors to managerial positions in the rewarding and high-demand healthcare industry.

Medical Assistant Associate Degree. Medical assistants, like nurses, work hand-to-hand with doctors in daily medical functions. They often take on clerical roles. You can start your medical assistant career in as little as 18 months with most associate degree or career school options.

Physical Therapist Assistant Bachelor Degree. Accredited physical therapy bachelor degree programs are perfect for starting physical therapy assistant careers, and they can later turn to master or doctoral degree programs for an individual physical therapy practice.

This only scrapes the surface of literally hundreds of healthcare career options available. If healthcare sounds like an exciting career path for you, consider one of these five or many other healthcare degree programs available!

An online degree in psychology or counseling is an excellent method to start a career in a job helping others. Online psychology degrees are useful for occupations such as career counseling, school counseling, human resources, and general business; they also open up doors to family-marriage therapist and clinical social worker careers with a master degree program and respective licensure.

Psychology jobs are found in a variety of different professional fields:

Clinical

Forensics

Sports

Education

Corporate

How long does it take to earn an online degree in psychology?

Online psychology bachelor degree programs may be completed in as little as three years with accelerated or year-round learning, though most programs take four years or more. An online psychology master degree takes an additional two years.

What will I learn in an online psychology degree program?

Psychology students study statistics, research, theory, and the role of other social and life sciences on the field of psychology and human behavior: anthropological psychology, sociological psychology, and physiological psychology to name a few.

Psychology master degree programs offer more focus than the bachelor degree counterparts. For example, an online master degree in forensic psychology will lead to an entirely different career path than an online master degree in clinical social work. The C.S.W., like the marriage-family therapist, is able to provide one-on-one counseling and therapy, whereas the forensic psychologist works in criminal justice.

Where do I find an online psychology degree program?

Online psychology degree programs are available from several reputable schools across the Internet. The school you attend should be accredited so that your online degree program is recognized as quality education by employers and future schools. It's best to do research and ask questions about the online psychology program(s) of interest to you before enrolling.

It's common for students to go back to college without considering their career path or interests. In fact, according to The Enquirer, students that select "undecided" for their major make up over eight percent of incoming freshman; this is a staggering leap from the one percent documented back in 1966. More than half of college students also change their major at least once within their academic career.

The Arts and Humanities, especially a Liberal Arts degree, used to act as the catch-all for the undecided populace that remained unknowing of their educational pursuits throughout their stay at their university or school. It was the last resort, the bottom line, with seemingly no job opportunities in sight.

But times have changed for the liberal arts and humanities majors.

The strength of the liberal arts and humanities degree lies in versatility. Like a business degree, it is accepted as a strong educational background for a variety of jobs, many that are eccentric and unheard of without the proper research. Students from the liberal arts and humanities still have to face the daunting question of, "Okay, but what will you do with your degree?" but the future is much brighter than most people think.

Some of the job opportunities for a liberal arts degree include:

Museum jobs; a museum curator makes over $45,000 a year, and an archivist makes over $45,000 a year

Business jobs; marketing research analysts make over $60,000 a year

Government jobs; political scientists make over $100,000 a year

Writing jobs; authors make over $50,000 a year

Linguistic jobs; interpreters make over $38,000 a year

Educational jobs; elementary school teachers benefit the most from liberal arts and humanities

A degree in fine arts, visual arts, or other aspects of the "Arts" field may open doors to creative careers like visual design, advertising, graphic design, video game design, and comic book design.

What can I expect from an Arts and Humanities degree program?

Arts and Humanities teach students about the world. Rather than focusing on one topic, students learn knowledge from several different disciplines to develop their overall intellectual ability. Arts and Humanities students learn how to express their opinions, evaluate their surroundings, and explore the richness of other arts and humanistic aspects found in all cultures, locations, and points in history.

Classes are grounded in the following subjects:

Arts

Foreign language, communication, and public speaking

Literature

Mathematics

Nature and physical sciences, including biology, geology, physics, etcetera

Social sciences, including anthropology, communication, political science, psychology, sociology, etcetera

Classics, history, philosophy, and religion

A student that is attracted to this palette of classes typically is artistic, creative, and curious. While logic and "left-brain" aspects of learning are found in mathematics and philosophy, the student will also deal with "right-brain" topics such as aesthetics and feelings. The Arts and Humanities major graduates as a "whole-brained" individual, prepared for exciting careers in industries throughout the world.

You have a successful, full-time career that makes a salary that you are comfortable with; but you never finished that Bachelor Degree you started when you were young, or you didn’t apply to that graduate program that was of interest to you. Is it still beneficial to go back to school?

School translates to higher pay, but…

Studies show that college graduates make a higher income than high school graduates. Similarly, graduate programs have more prolific results than undergraduate programs. But one of the things the studies don’t mention is that experience pays just as well. For a full-time worker that has several years of experience in a particular industry and only a little education, the income leap from education could be minimal. It’s best to consult your employer in this case to see if going back to school is the right option for you. Some employers may even pay for your education in order to enrich someone within the company; better to promote internally!

Is it too late to start a new career?

Some workers aren’t successful and comfortable. They’ve been at the same job for the past two decades and want a change. It’s a pretty popular trend at the moment for curious minds to pursue new career options in the health care industry due to health care’s exponential growth. But then, is there ever a time when it’s too late to go back to school and start a new career? In this day and age, the answer is no. More and more, older adults are returning to college in order to not only expand their professional options, but enrich their everyday lives. The terms “general education” and “well-rounded” didn’t spring out of nowhere. Not only does college give the opportunity to do a one-eighty career shift, it has the potential to change your outlook on life and your daily knowledge. Whether you are a full-time worker looking to move up in your company, or jump into a whole new industry, don’t be afraid of researching your academic options. You just might find the next step to an exciting and positive change in your life.

Working full-time and taking care of a family is beyond exhausting; so how is a working mom supposed to go back to school? Fortunately, online degree programs provide an ideal situation for the working mother without jeopardizing the quality of her education or her current career. An online degree program provides the following perks that make education accessible for even the busiest parents in today’s society:

Flexible schedule. An online degree program adjusts to the student’s schedule, rather than the student adjusting to a campus school’s rigid curriculum. Have to work in the day and help children with homework in the evening? Attend your online classroom after bedtime.

Quality learning. Online degree programs were recognized by the USDE as equal, if not superior, methods of learning to campus-based programs. Working mothers can rest assured that an online MBA program will only bolster their career.

No commuting. There’s enough driving involved in taking care of children and going back-and-forth to work every day. With online colleges and universities, nothing additional is added to the daily driving grind.

There are scholarships available specifically for working mothers, as well as loan and grant options through the FAFSA. Some employers even have financial packages available to workers that show interest in going back to school. With the proven increased financial success of college graduates, the cost of college pays for itself and is only a little bit of research away. Working moms all over the United States have taken the initiative, too. The variability of student age is always widening as more and more adults go back to school and expand the career options available to them—or simply bolster the career they already have! Think work and family prevent parents from going back to school? Think again. Take some time to look into online degree programs and jumpstart your academic future.

Online degree programs are more popular than ever. Despite this, there are many prospective students and employers that are still skeptical about the creditability of online colleges and universities. Here are five myths to dispel on online education. 1. Online education isn’t as valuable as traditional education. According to a 2009 study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, not only is online education considers of equal quality to its campus-based counterpart, it may be a superior form of learning. Online students have shown a long-term result of performing better academically and professionally. This is largely attributed to the customization of online education and how it adheres to several types of learners. 2. Online education is easier than campus-based education. Reputable online degree programs are held to the same standards as their campus-based counterparts thanks to accreditation agencies. Schools that offer both online and campus-based degree programs, such as Saint Leo University, model the online program after the campus-based program to deliver an equally challenging academic experience. 3. Online degrees don’t get jobs. While it’s true some archaic employers still cling to the idea that online education is only made up of degree mills, most large corporations and successful businesses have recognized the value of distance learning. 4. Online degree programs are not transferable. An online degree program’s units are transferable to other schools that fall within the jurisdiction of the accreditation agency that reviewed the online degree program in question. This means that an online degree program fulfilled through a school accredited by one of the Six Regional Accreditation Agencies may be transferable all over the world, whether the student is applying for a graduate program or simply transferring units. 5. Online degree programs finish faster than campus-based programs. All colleges have the potential to offer accelerated learning opportunities, whether they are online or traditional education providers. Similarly, colleges reserve the right to only offer traditional 4-year degree programs. If a student finishes a Bachelor Degree program in three years, chances are they could’ve done that at a campus just as efficiently as they’d done it online. The only real difference between online education and campus-based education is delivery. In the end, the student learns the same concepts; is tested on the same material; and graduates as the same well-rounded learner.
