"It is perhaps no accident that in the very moment when a popular colour photography has been achieved the character of the black-and-white picture, as an artistic form by virtue of its range of tone-values as well as of its power of reduction on a graphically hard black-and-white surface, has been more clearly recognized than ever before."

-Otto Steinert, 1952-
