Time is Precious........The Fire In Stamford

I have been blogging now for over a year, and all of my blogs have been centered around my bedding website. Today I have to talk about something totally different, because I just can't get this story out of my mind. When I woke up Christmas morning to the news of the fire in Stamford, it just broke my heart, as it did many hearts. For those of you that don't know the story, it is one of the saddest stories I have ever heard. ( For more detailed information about the fire please click on this link. ) The owner of this home lost her only 3 children, ages 10 and twin 7 year old girls, and her parents. The cause of the fire was from the embers of a fireplace that were left on the porch. On the news it was reported that a woman stated "my whole life is in their", and I just couldn't get those words out of my head, for I knew right then that those where the words of a mother. A day has not gone by that I have not thought of this story, and what this woman is going through.

When I woke up this morning, there was more news of this story, and this additional news prompted me to write. Ever since I heard about the cause of the fire, I just couldn't understand the need to clean out the fireplace on Christmas Eve. My thought was, why couldn't you just wait a day or two, what was the big rush?? It was reported that the fireplace was cleaned out because the "girls where concerned about Santa being able to come down the chimney". That further broke my heart.....Life is short and time is precious.

I have meet a lot of great people over the 11 years of my son playing hockey. As us hockey parents know, when your kids play hockey, it becomes a huge part of your life. Sitting at the arena during cold practices, getting the skates sharpened, sometimes twice a week and then there are the games, that are so much fun! Well during all of this, you really get to know some great people.

My son is in his junior year playing varsity hockey-wow, what a difference from the good old days of pee-wee hockey. High school hockey is all about playing the best on the team, while many of the players just sit and watch, game after game, because the coach doesn't feel they are good enough to play. Gone are the days of making sure every player gets the same amount of ice time. Feelings get hurt, both players and parents, and you have now entered the "real world" of high school sports.

My son has played many sports over the years, and I have to say hockey is the favorite in our house, by far! I have some great hockey bedding for boys that I just love, probably because I just so enjoy the game of hockey and the joy that it has brought to my sons life over the years. With Thanksgiving a day away, I thought I should write about my next color today. I don't go out shopping on black Friday, but thought I would get this next color posted before the holiday. I added some really nice comforter sets and duvet cover sets to my website. Well, I am a little late in talking about my next color. I live in Connecticut, where there has been no power, heat or internet. All I have seen over the last 5 days is l--o--n--g gas lines, some 40 cars deep! Who would have thought that first, we would have a snow storm the end of October, and secondly, that 5 days after the storm, there would still be thousands and thousands of people still without power. I chose to talk about the color green today, which represents the color of our natural surroundings. Green is considered the color of peace and ecology. Since I have been looking at white snow, which in my opinion, is too early to be looking at in October, I would like to focus on seeing green outside again! Did you know that green occupies more space in the spectrum visible to the human eye than most colors, and is second only to blue as a favorite color. Green is the pervasive color in the natural world, making it an ideal backdrop in interior design, because we are so used to seeing it all around us. The natural greens, from lime green to forest, are seen as refreshing and tranquil, with a natural balance of cool and warm (yellow and blue) undertones.

All of us New Englanders may want to see the color green on the inside of our house, especially if we have a traditionally white winter this season. Green is seen as a soothing color, which can be relaxing both physically and mentally. The color green also alleviates depression, anxiety and nervousness.
