First The Almost, then Flyleaf, and now Maylene – all I can say is it’s a good time to like Christian rock. 

The Maylene… song in question is “Just A Shock”, the third track from the band’s aptly titled third album, III.  You can download it for free from Fuse.tv, and it rocks.  I like it a lot, and hopefully, you will too.  Enjoy!

Without a doubt, the biggest free download this week is from Steven Curtis Chapman.  You can download his latest single, “Heaven Is the Face”, from Tangle.com.  It’s an amazing, beautiful song, enough said.  Don’t miss it.

It’s hard to believe Christmas is coming up so fast, but it is, and Gospel Music Channel has the Christmas music to prove it – specifically, Ayiesha Woods’ version of “Jingle Bells”.  As it turns out, Ayiesha actually has whole Christmas album coming out, called Christmas Like This, a play off her last album’s title, Love Like This.

Here’s something new:  FreeCCM.com has totally updated their website!  It’s now a blog-type format, with new downloads every week.  They’ve got three weeks worth of downloads up right now, with songs from Todd Agnew, Fee, and The Afters – some pretty cool stuff.  You do need to sign up for the website again, even if you were signed up previously.

Last, but definitely not least this week, New Release Tuesday has a new song by Plumb.  It’s called “Hold On”, and it’s one of the new tracks from Plumb’s latest greatest hits collection, entitled Beautiful History.  I’m pretty excited about Beautiful History myself, primarily because it has two disks, the second of which is full of remixes.  Very cool stuff indeed!

I’ve got another great new band for you to check out, especially if you enjoy Eleventyseven, Attaboy, or if you liked last week’s downloads from The Great Transparency – you’re going to want to keep reading.

The band is Bright Light Parade, and the band has two free songs available on their website – “Starlight City” and “Keep Me Under”, and I have to say, I was quite impressed with both tracks.  They’re catchy, meaningful, and rockin’ songs, and “Starlight City” in particular features some very tight synth work in addition to the already good guitars and drums.  They’er definitely a band to watch for.

To download the songs, the band does ask that you sign up for their mailing list – no big deal.  Enjoy!

This is the brand new, official, music video for Switchfoot’s new song and single, “Mess of Me”, and it pretty much rocks. It’s one of the best live music videos I’ve ever seen, and the song is pretty awesome too.

Even though I do really like the video, though, that’s not why I’m writing this post. It turns out, Land of Broken Hearts (a Switchfoot fan site), has put together a list of objectives for Switchfoot fans everywhere, to help promote the new video. They’ve done an amazing job so far, the video has hit the top of Digg, been featured on YouTube’s homepage, and several other very cool accomplishments. Despite the progress, though, there’s always room for more fans, so if helping Switchfoot conquer the world musically sounds like fun to you, check out the Land of Broken Hearts website for information on how you can get involved. Rock on!

Picks.  It’s the name of the latest free compilation from Huntington University (the same university that released the stellar Youniversity CD last year), and it rocks.  It features almost entirely new, indie, or under-the-radar artists, most of which are really good.  The first track, “Wait On You”, for example, is by a band called Attaboy, a very talented pop-rock band along the lines of Stellar Kart.  “Wait On You” has a great message too, and is probably my favorite song on the CD.  Other highlights are Heath McNease’s hilarious song about video games, “Nintendo Thumb”, and The Contact’s eerie but good rock track “My Divine”.  Really, though, all of the songs are quite good.  Here’s the tracklisting:

Now, to download the music, you’ll need to sign up at HUzic website, and request an access code.  When I first signed up, I got my code in the mail on a neat little sheet of paper – which I promptly lost.    I signed up again, and the next time, I got my code in an email.  Either way, once you get the code, you just need to visit the HUzic website and log in with your information and the special code, and you can download all 14 songs, for free, just like that.

Just so you know, this is a promotion from Huntington, so don’t be surprised if you get mailings from them in the future.  Personally, I think it’s totally worth it, but it’s up to you.  Enjoy!
