Dog in Japan stays by the side of its ailing friend hit by tsunami

My heart goes out for the dogs in Japan who had suffered trauma after the tsunami hit Japan. The tear-inducing video below reminds us that even animals have ultimate capacities to look after their kind. Watch this moving video of an ultimate loyalty of a Japanese dog who refuses to leave her injured friend behind.

I'm kind of touched by the dogs reaction towards the reporter. It is as if she was trying to communicate to the man to help her injured friend. Take a look at her reactions after seeing people looking at them starting at 0.18. You can see how it immediately approaches them and leads the way to the other dog for them to follow it. At 0.33, the dog barked signalling people to follow her to her friend.

I was just very glad to know that the dogs were picked up after the video was shot, and are in the care of a local shelter. Thanks a lot to those who were very kind to these God's own precious creatures.

Billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has a new facebook page. But this Mark Zuckerberg new Facebook page is not for him but for his and his girlfriend's new puppy named Beast.

As indicated in Beast's Facebook page profile, he was born on January 10, 2011 Grants Pass, Oregon. He belongs to Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan. He is a Puli, which is a type of Hungarian Sheepdog. And more, he is "extremely cute".

As of this moment, Beast facebook fan page has 18,731 likes and still growing. Zuckerberg and Chan posted a series of pictures of Beast on the page at facebook.com/beast.the.dog.

Darius is 4 feet, 3 inches from his wiggly nose to his puffy tail, and weighs in at 50 pounds.

Darius’ record as certified by Guinness is based solely on his length. The record-keepers used to also list animals by weight, but dropped that measurement out of fear that people were overfeeding their pets to get them in the record book.

Heidi the Cross-Eyed Opossum Video

Meet Germany's adorable Heidi the Cross-Eyed Opossum. Heidi, a Virginia opossum, sits in her enclosure at Leipzig zoo in eastern Germany. Heidi's not yet on public display but her popularity's rising as more and more people are liking her on her Facebook Page. I won't be surprised if in the next few days thousands of Heidi stuffed toys will be available in stores.

According to the zoo officials, the reason for Heidi's crossed eyes is unclear, but they speculate that it might be because of fat deposits behind her eyes, caused by a bad diet early in life. The zoo added that Heidi's eyes might look off, but they cause the animal no pain, and don't affect her ability to get around. She is, aside from her looks, a normal opossum.

A Tribute To My Puffy

This is a tribute video for my sweet furry bestfriend, Puffy. He passed away last June 27, 2010 @ exactly 3:00 PM. My Puffy died of sickness. I just can't forget the goodness of my gentle friend, so here it is. The friendship and trust he had shared, I will forever remember.

A warm welcome for Troy, a German Shepherd?

My sister recently adopted a male puppy. I'm not really sure of Troy's kind of breed. He looks like a German Shepherd with a short hair. His name is Troy and he really loves it when we call him by that name. You can expect a quick response every time you call his name. He's so sweet and lovable. Here are Troy's pictures.

Puppy Pictures - Poknat's Month-Old Puppies

Here are my new puppy pictures I just took. These are pictures of my Poknat's month-old puppies. I'm not sure what kind of dog breeds they are. Also, I have already dewormed the puppies so as to avoid future health problems. By the way, Poknat gave birth to five puppies - 3 males and 2 females. Unluckily, my father accidentally hit one male with a motorcycle and we're not able to revive the puppy.

Cat Illnesses - Puffy's Strange Behavior

With regards to cat illnesses, I really don't have an idea what illness hit my dear cat. Puffy's strange behavior gave me fear because two weeks ago, he just stayed at home on dark corners, most of the time under my bed. He barely moves his head and I've noticed that whenever I touch his head especially near the neck area, he would harshly meow at me, as if telling me not to stroke his head. It looked like he had a stiff neck. And worst, because he can't move his head comfortably, he barely finished his usual ration of food. Sometimes, he don't eat his food, maybe because he just simply don't like it or lose his appetite. As a result, he became a little skinny.

Then one day, I decided to give him a warm quick shower because he was just so messy and dirty. He was okay after the shower so I thought he was feeling fine. After two days, I noticed that Puffy really had no appetite for food. I decided to deworm him because I thought he had worms. Pardon me, I had never considered taking Puffy to a vet because it will be useless. Why? Because our vet here in our place just don't have enough passion for cats. If I send Puffy to them, Puffy would be dead.

Two days had passed. I was calling on Puffy when my sister told me that she saw him went outside with his legs trembling. According to her, Puffy could barely walk. I guessed because he had not eaten on time. After many hours that Puffy did not return home, I started looking for him. Finally, I found him under the storehouse. I was so shocked because when I lift him up, he was so weak that he can't even move his front legs to stand up. When I put him down, he was out of balance and kept on tumbling down backwards. Puffy may have gone through what they call cat stress and he looked like he has cat paralysis. I brought him inside the house and started feeding him up with Alpine Full Cream Evaporated Milk because he won't accept solid food.

I have read an article on cat care, which says that cats and kittens do not need to drink milk and can live their entire lives without having one lap of milk. According to what I have read, water is all they will ever need. But how can I not give Puffy milk? He don't want to drink water even if I forced him to, and don't want to eat, either. My last recourse was to give him milk through a syringe. Just like what I gave King when he was also really sick. Read my post here on how my lovable King has been revived. I thought that the Alpine Full Cream Evaporated Milk could heal Puffy's stomach, too. And this treatment of Alpine milk went on for days. I was just so glad that Puffy was so eager to drink the milk I gave him through a syringe.

You know, my heart really aches seeing Puffy unable to move. My family had thought that Puffy won't be able to make it. He would just pee and poop while lying. And my goodness! His poop really sucks because it's watery soft and very smelly. That is why, every time he rolled on his poop (because he can't move), I had to wash his butt. But then again, I am glad to take good care of my Puffy because this cat had given me so much joy when he was very well. It's my time now to return the kindness and happiness he had given me.

Right now, Puffy is still recovering and I am very happy to see his development. He starts to eat his usual food (rice with fish). He can't still balance fully his walking but he can manage to walk a little. I hope Puffy could walk normally again in a few days.

May 13, 2010 update :

Puffy no longer wants to drink the milk I usually give him. He now prefers to have lots of water which I think is just what he needs to rehydrate his body.

World's Biggest Beaver Dam - Discovered in Canada

It's called the world's biggest beaver dam and it's so massive that it can be seen from the space. It defeated the 652-meter structure in Three Forks in Montana, USA which previously held the record for world's biggest beaver dam.

The world's biggest beaver dam has been discovered in northern Alberta, Canada by Researcher Jean Thie through the use of satellite imagery and Google Earth software. The dam which is about 850 metres (2,800 feet) long is located on the southern edge of Wood Buffalo National Park.

Cat Breeds for Cat Lovers

So, you're one of those awesome people who love to have pets as company, and in particular looking for perfect cat breeds that could add joy to your life. That's amazing. There's a saying which goes something like this, "how you treat animals shows what kind of a person you are." If you treat them well, then it can be said that you have a good heart.

There are lots of cat breeds to choose from. Some of the known breeds are the Abyssinian, Aegean cat, American Polydactyl, Brazilian Shorthair, British Shorthair, Burmese, Egyptian Mau, European Shorthair, Japanese Bobtail, Norwegian Forest Cat, Scottish Fold, Siamese, Siberian, Turkish Angora, and a lot more. All of the mentioned breeds are of natural origin, meaning they're not of the hybrid types or those developed by mutation.

One particular cat breed that's good to keep is the Persian breed. Persian cats are long-haired cats characterized by its round face and shortened muzzle. It should be put in mind that Persian cats require daily grooming due to its very long and thick fur.The Persian Cats' life expectancy is usually between 10 to 18 years.

More characteristics of the Persian cats are:

Sweet temperament
Laid back
Long, thick coat
Heavily boned
"Cobby" body
Straight, short tail
Large, round eyes
Small, flat nose
Generally good with kids
Short legs
Large, round head
Small, forward-tilting ears

Me, I don't really look into cat breeds because I love cats of all kinds. What is important is the kind of care I could give to them. Just like my own Puffy at home. He's a very sweet feline that my heart breaks whenever he comes home all filled with mud due to his wrestling with the female cat in the mating season. I think that's one of the weirdest cat behaviors. They are hurting each other before they mate.

Poknat Gave Birth To New Puppies

My sweet Poknat gave birth to five new puppies last April 5, 2010. It was Poknat's third pregnancy. All except one have same fur color, black brown. That single puppy has same fur color with my Poknat. I think in every generation of dog breeds, there is always one that inherits the mother's physical characteristics.

Here are some of the pictures of Poknat and her pups I took a week after she gave birth.

Poknat looks so messy in here. I missed to gave her a shower a day before she gave birth.

Christmas and New Year's Eve Holidays: Keep our pets safe and secure

Christmas and New Year’s Day celebrations had passed. I was just glad that these holidays are over because these occasions are so stressful for my pets. The unstoppable loud noises brought about by blasting firecrackers scared my furry bestfriends to the bones. I even took a shivering neighbor’s dog to shelter inside our house. The poor canine was so scared, I thought he lost his instinct on where to hide.

At the start of the new year, I got a chance to take new pictures of King and Puffy. Check them out.

But wait, I guess, there’s one more holiday feast that will definitely bang loud firecrackers – the Chinese New Year this February 14th. So before that day comes, let’s have a time to read these tips from PAWS to help our pets cope with the stress and harm that come with the noise of fireworks.

Appeal to family members and neighbors not to burst firecrackers and be considerate to animals who are unable to protect themselves from toxic harm.
Create a safe and comfortable place where your pet can hide from fumes and noises.
Observe where your pet goes when she is frightened and give her access to that place such as under the sofa or bed. Let your pet come and go freely to her “comfort zone."
Encourage your pet to engage in an activity that diverts her attention away from startling noises and from behaving fearfully.
Refrain from soothing or giving treats to your pet when she is behaving frightfully as she may interpret this as a reward for her anxious behavior.
Don’t punish your pet for being terrified of firecrackers as this will only make her more scared.
Don’t try to force your dog to experience or be close to her source of fear as this can make her aggressive in her desire to escape from the situation.
Keep your gate closed and your perimeter secure to prevent your pet from wandering off due to panic.
Also:
Keep hazardous materials out of reach of your pet, including plastic bags and wrappings, tobacco products, cleaning solutions, and phosphorous-containing items such as pyrotechnic devices, incense, matches and mosquito coils.
Keep common holiday food treats such as chocolate, grapes, macadamia nuts, popcorn, fruit cake, raisin bread and alcoholic beverages, away from your pet as these may cause stomach, kidney and liver ailments as well as choking hazard.

World's Tallest Dog - World's Tallest Living Dog

Gibson, a Great Dane certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World's Tallest Dog died August 7, 2009 after a battle against bone cancer. This 7-year old Great Dane from Grass Valley measured 7 feet, 1 inch when standing on its hinds legs. Gibson had appeared on "The Tonight Show," "The Oprah Show" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and on Japanese television in 2006 after being named the world's tallest dog.

Now, the record for the World's Tallest Living Dog is up for grabs. Boomer, a 3-year-old Landseer Newfoundland dog breed from North Dakota measures 36 inches at the shoulders, 7 feet from nose to tail, and weighs 180 pounds. His owner, Caryn Weber says she will be sending Boomer's stats to the Guinness World Records to be considered for the title of world's tallest living dog.

Puffy's new pictures

I love my cat so much. But unlike other cat humans who dress or groom their cats too much, I let my Puffy behave the way he wants to. The other day, I got a chance to take Puffy's new pictures. Although, he was quite annoyed of me dragging him around to pose, I still manage to have some. Check them out:

Lying on my lap. He definitely loves to do that always.

There on top of the cabinet, Puffy was closing his eyes too tight due to the camera's very bright flash. It was very dark in the room, that's why he had shut his eyes like that.

This is how he greets me every morning. He would call on from outside my door "meow, meow, meow". See Puffy's kittyhood pictures here with that red slipper.

And finally the following morning, after chasing him for a while, I had him pose on top of that fence pole. Look at those annoyed eyes. (lol)

Do Not Leave Pets During Disasters

Do not leave your pets during disasters. - is the call of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). PETA reminded the public to secure the safety of their beloved animals, especially during natural disasters like tropical storms.

Here's how to secure the safety of your beloved pets and animals especially during disasters:

Before a disaster:
All animals should have collars with identification tags. Make sure you have a current photo of your companion animal for identification purposes.
Hotels often lift "no pets" policies during emergencies, but keep a list of hotels that accept companion animals just in case. Include the Philippine Animal Welfare Society's (PAWS) phone number, (02) 475-1688, in your list of emergency numbers. It might be able to provide information during a disaster.
Keep packed a carrier, lease, extra animal food, and any other supplies that you will need so that you can grab them easily if you need to evacuate in a hurry.
In case pets are left behind:
Do not tie animals outside, leave them caged, or keep them in a vehicle unattended. Leave them in a secure area inside your home.
Leave out at least 10 days' supply of water. Fill every sink, bowl, pan, and plastic container with water and set them on the floor. Do not leave just one container because it may spill. If your toilet bowl is free of chemical disinfectants, leave the toilet seat up to provide animals with one more source of water, but do not let that be the only source.
Leave out at least 10 days' supply of dry food. Canned food will go rancid quickly.
If you can't get to your home, contact a reliable neighbor or friend to check on animals and get them out, if possible. Provide specific instructions for care.

So, keep this tips in mind to save your beloved furry friends.

Strongest Dog in the World

Here's a picture of the strongest dog in the world with a body like that of the bulldog.

Those are pictures of the four-year old Wendy, a bully whippet. She's called a bully not because she's bullying but because of her doubled muscle size. This hulking canine was born with the genetic defect which caused her to grow larger and much more muscular than others her breed.

While her head, heart, lungs and legs are the size of those of a normal whippet, her gene defect means she is "double muscled".

She weighs 4st4lb - twice as much as she should - and has bulging neck muscles, burly shoulders and haunches like a baboon. And unlike ordinary whippets known for their lithe and narrow frame, this four-year-old pedigree doesn't just have a six-pack stomach, she has a 24-pack.

Whippets are sometimes used in track racing of short distances. This is a picture of the normal whippet dog breed:

Although Wendy has very big bulky muscles, I don't think she can be considered as the strongest dog in the world. Big big muscles doesn't necessarily mean that it's super strong. Hercules, one of the world's biggest dogs might be stronger than Wendy.

Poknat and King

On the left is Poknat (King's mother) when she was King's age. They resemble each other despite the difference in their color. Unlike Trisha and Jackie, Poknat and King have almost the same dog behavior and traits, too. Like mother-like son, it is!

Cat and Dog | Puffy and King

I was trying to take pictures of Puffy and King together. Puffy is older than King but King is bigger and heavier than Puffy. So here's what I did: I asked my sister and my nephew to hold each of the models and the result is -

My sister had to hold Puffy's arms and legs because he began scratching and kicking at the sight of King in front of him. And King there wanted to get his mouth and paws on Puffy. Look at Puffy's narrowing eyes. He's preparing for a quick scratch attack.

King was trying to play with Puffy but the cat has no time for it.

Puffy and King playing is impossible because Puffy prefers grooming than being licked, so it's better to keep a distance.

Kitten | Puffy's Kittyhood

I was looking for pictures of Puffy's kittyhood which I had taken days after I have found him. Luckily, I haven't deleted it yet from my files. Puffy was so little I could hold him with just a palm.

That's my slipper he was lying on. Until now, whenever he sees me wearing it, he would sniff it and he would then act as if nursing on it. Such a weird but sweet cat behavior.

One thing I love Puffy most is that he loves to be cuddled and hug, but not tightly. He also loves to sit on my lap.

When it comes to pet grooming, I don't usually overpamper my furry bestfriends. They're still animals and I don't want to deprive them of their inner nature. Just like Puffy, he does it on his own now that he's already a grown-up feline. Actually, I used to shower him with lukewarm water when he was still a kitten but now he hates it. I leave him that way because if not, he would bite and scratch my arms struggling in resistance.

Puffy loves to groom his fur almost all the time whenever possible. Except of course when he falls on a stinky canal, he wouldn't dare lick his wet, stinky coat. I had to do it for him despite his disapproval because his smell would stick on anything he touches.

Alpo

Alpo is promoting a contest on "Real Dogs Tell It Like It Is," in which dogs tell about their favorite behaviors like rolling in the mud, drooling over dinner or playing fetch (of course with the help of their humans). Twenty of the stories will be collected and published in a "How-To manual for dogs.

I wonder if I could register Jackie in this Alpo contest. My goodness, he's so moody when it comes to shower. He would growl at me and as if bite me if I insist. And when I succeed in showering him, he would take his revenge by running into the field and rolling on horses' poops and even on decaying frogs. I think he likes the very unpleasant smell as his perfume. So annoying that I have to shower him again! But despite that natural dog-ness, he's still my jolly Jackie.

Stray Cats | Adopting Cat

Talking about stray cats, - I have one in the office that I have partially adopted months ago. I say partially because this feline doesn't stay in the office all the time with me. In fact, she just comes in to eat. Sometimes, she visits me at around 9AM.

Here she is. Look at those green eyes, aren't they lovable?

Before, the sight of an approaching human triggers her very keen instinct. She would eventually vanish from sight. But now, even though she's still aloof, at least not to me. She would meow, meow, meow, rubbing his nose against my legs.

As much as I want to, I can't take her home because I still have Puffy at home. See my Puffy's recent photos or those taken months ago.

I think I am really blessed because I have this kind of affection towards this humble creatures. A lot of them have experienced so much betrayal and have been victims of cruelty. Thank God I have that little capability to tame stray dogs and cats. The secret to it is building mutual trust between you and the animal.
