In this fairytale land there are things called hot dogs at an enchanted place called the cafeteria. She was all in.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">I actually showed a great amount of restraint that day. That happens when I come across prices in excess of $10. I picked up a Buddy Holly record for my collection and that little bike pencil cup thing. It will replace another knick-knacky bike thing that Georgia so graciously destroyed. I was very happy to find that clock at Value Village with a very non-VV price - <i>only $1.99</i>! The faux patchwork fabric is being saved for an upcoming diy project (or I'll just change my mind like I always do and hoard it forever) and the blanket is the background is keeping me cozy as I type. I haven't hit the shops <i>that hard</i> lately and normally I have a wicked memory for where I thrifted what. I think they're gross. Even worse is trying to wash one of those things. When I put a regular bath mat in my teeney-tiny washer it bangs around in the basement like a self-contained earthquake. I tossed my mat months ago but in the meantime I've just been tossing a folded up towel on the floor. Not pretty but a whole lot easier to wash.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">With this simple and fast diy I get to keep the easy laundry and turn up the pretty just a bit. I thrifted two vintage towels - about $1.99 each at an overpriced 'thrift' store.</div><br /> <img src="http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/mgthursday/thriftedtowels.jpg" /><br /> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Lay them flat and line up the centres. Make sure you have the right sides together (if you can tell which is which. There's a chance I could not so I just went with what I liked.)</div><br /> <img src="http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/mgthursday/centre.jpg" /><br /> <br /> <div style="text-align: justify;">Before I pinned the two towels together I decided to cut the edge off the smaller of the towels. It was a personal call and not totally necessary. I lied, stating it was to focus on school. In all reality, I had no idea what I was doing with my life and absolutely hated my job, but the lie sounded a bit more adult-like. I had no clue what I was going to do, other than a vague idea of a referral business that stopped before it even started. I was eager to learn and made a sale within a week of launching my shop, deciding immediately that was going to be my future. And it was for approximately one year. I learned business techniques, changed my degree from Environmental Management (I know, what on Earth was that doing in there?!) to Marketing, grew my business, and built a foundation for the other branches of my business. I wrote e-books. I started graphic design. I stopped doing graphic design. I started doing graphic design again. I started consulting. I started life coaching. These were the things I came to love, slowly pushing jewelry on the back-burner. I continued on as if nothing had changed, blatantly ignoring the fact that jewelry making was no longer something that held my interest. That being said I thought it might be nice to create a very simple tote tutorial that would require minimal "straight" stitching. Using your contrasting thread stitch around your heart several times. Do this enough to make your stitched heart visible from a few feet away. After you've printed the letter templates trace around each letter with a pencil. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">2. Place the letter face down on the back of your glitter cardstock. Rub around the edges of the letter (where you have traced with pencil) with the blunt end of a butter knife. This will transfer your pencil markings to the back of the card stock. Do this with each of the letters and TWICE with the 'O' (I forgot to add a second one to the template. Whoopsies!)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><i>**You could use carbon copy paper during this step instead of the rubbing transfer method. I would have if I could have found some at the dollar store.</i></div><br /> <img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7142/6846779191_97159e8486_o.jpg" /><br /> <br /> <div style="text-align: justify;">4. Once you have all of your letters mapped out then cut them out using a craft knife and self-healing mat. That store has put a hex on me and it's pretty damn rare that I can walk out the door without a pretty paper bag concealing another vintage piece for my closet. This trip I found two perfect things but I'd have to say that this is the perfectest one. When I went into the change room I opened my coat and BAM it was all white tights. My dress had successfully shimmied itself up to my belly button. I was instantly smitten with this project and decided I was going to be all in once February 1st rolled around.</div><br /> <img src="http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/mgthursday/3-things-february.png" /><br /> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">The idea is a simple one. At the end of each day you <a href="http://sarahrooftops.blogspot.com/2012/01/three-things-february-coming-soon.html" target="_blank">record three things</a> that made you smile. Hell, that's easy! And what I love about this one is that is varies from the traditional 'gratitude' style collections. Smile. I smile (even laugh a little) when my kid farts on the cat. Am I grateful for it?
