Found it just now messing around with the Internet (who doesn't?), and urged myself to post it for all of you:

Henry Rollins

These days I've been watching the TV Show Sons of Anarchy with my wife, reaching end of season 3 last night. In the second season, Henry Rollins, played a neo-nazi leader who wanted to succeed in his arian mission against "the good guys". This reminded me some of the songs I have heard of him, some music videos I watched back in the day (Black Flag & Henry Rollins Band), and some of his monologues which I got to know by my brother.

Henry Rollins (born Henry Lawrence Garfield; February 13, 1961) is an American singer-songwriter, spoken word artist, writer, comedian, publisher, actor, and radio DJ.

After performing for the short-lived Washington D.C.-based band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the California hardcore punk band Black Flag from August 1981 until mid-1986. Following the band's breakup, Rollins soon established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61 to release his spoken word albums, as well as forming the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups from 1987 until 2003, and during 2006.

Since Black Flag, Rollins has embarked on projects covering a variety of media. He has hosted numerous radio shows, such as Harmony in My Head on Indie 103, and television shows such as The Henry Rollins Show, MTV's 120 Minutes, and Jackass. He had a recurring dramatic role in the second season of Sons of Anarchy and has also had roles in several films. Rollins has also campaigned for various political causes in the United States, including promoting LGBT rights, World Hunger Relief, and an end to war in particular, and tours overseas with the United Service Organizations to entertain American troops.

Definitely, an intense, hard-working, mutherfucking great guy!!!

It has been almost a month and a half since I came to Madrid with my wife, but it seems that we have been around for more than a year now. There is a TV channel which I did know nothing about it. This channel is Kiss TV, a 24 hour music channel.

Sometimes we leave it on, and I got enchanted by this video, from Tom Petty & The Heartbrekers. They are an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. They were formed in 1976 by Tom Petty (guitar and vocals), Mike Campbell (lead guitar), Benmont Tench (piano, organ, harmonium and vocals), (the three of them had been members of Mudcrutch), Ron Blair (bass and vocals) and Stan Lynch (drums and vocals). Petty and the Heartbreakers are known for hit singles such as "American Girl", "Breakdown", "The Waiting", "Learning to Fly", "Refugee" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance". The Heartbreakers still tour regularly and continue to record albums.

The song is from their latest album, June 15th release titled "Mojo", their first album in 8 years. I will have a listen to their record a couple of times, to "get the feel of it". Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!! Later.

Black Tide

This post is about a new discovery I have made, thanks again to my friend Javi (yeah, the one who has lend me his acoustic guitar).

Specifically, it is about a band from Miami, Florida, founded in 2004 called Black Tide. Current members are Gabriel Garcia (vocals and lead guitar), Austin Diaz (rhythm guitar and vocals), Zachary Sandler (bass and vocals), and Steven Spence (drums, percussion). The D day, Javi gave me a CD with a bunch of songs and albums which we were checking out that same day at his place, and the optical device (hehe, my techie-side) had a couple of songs from their debut album "Light From Above", released on March 18th, 2008 through Interscope Records. The most amazing thing is that, none of them is in their twenties yet, and they have already played in the Ozzfest.

Got started with Chart Two. The beginning is quite easy, but I am going to stick with the timings, so I keep on ascending gradually. And, as the author, David Mead says: "strive for accuracy, speed will come later".

On the other hand, I have finished reading the book titled "La mécanique du cœur" (English version: The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart), written by Mathias Malzieu in 2007, lead singer of French pop/rock band Dionysos. The thing is, they have created a concept album based on the novel. Luc Besson will be creating a featured animated film based on the book, and co-directed by Mr. Malzieu himself, which is planned to be released on the current year, 2011.

They like vintage clothes, listening to records, drinking, touring and each other. Finally!!! At last, I have finished Chart One (still five more left... :P). Since I was making progress I preferred to wait until I managed to fulfill the first of six charts. Next day I will have a look to Chart Two.

On the other hand, soon I will be moving to Madrid, Mainland, Spain, because of requirements of my new job, but it will be for a limited period of time. Meanwhile, I don't know how I am going to be able to manage to continue with my guitar practice. I will try to find a way out.

Also, I would have to return to my friend Javi his acoustic guiar, Takamine G Series, quite nice, and very basic, among Takamine's variety of models. I borrowed it because I wanted to record some ideas on acoustic guitar, which certainly, have trapped me under its melody. Definitely, I will try to get on of those!!

For the moment, I am posting a sneak peak to my (temporary) "possession":

Arch Enemy

Much has been happening these days! I have been sacked from my job for almost a month now, I did a "test" to see if I could get in as a lead guitar in La Cuerda de Carradine (Carradine's Rope), but in the end it was not possible. The members (and friends) used a voting system, such as Big Brother, hehehe. The thing is that I did not take it too seriously because is a band that plays old school Spanish rock n roll, and it was just a try, in a very friendly manner and very relaxed, chill out environment. Obviously, some Metallica and ol' thrash songs were played as well in rehearsal, hehehe.

Today's post is related to Swedish melodic death metal band called Arch Enemy. Founder member Michael Ammot (guitars), played guitar in such other metal acts as Carcass, Carnage and Spiritual Beggars, decided to create the band with his brother Christopher (guitars), bassist/vocalist Johan Liiva (Carnage frontman) and drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Eucharist, drum session for In Flames), back in 1996. However, they really began to develop their true potential once vocalist Angela Gossow joined the fold on 2001’s critically acclaimed Wages of Sin album.

After touring extensively across Europe and Japan, the band returned to the studio and released Anthems of Rebellion in 2003. The album Doomsday Machine landed in July of 2005 right as guitarist Christopher Amott announced he was leaving the band due to personal reasons and further develop his musical education. Former Tiamat member Fredrik Åkesson replaced him, though the two would switch places again two years later with Åkesson leaving the band to join Opeth, and Amott taking back his spot on guitar. The video above for "My Apocalypse" is taken from this album. Arch Enemy's seventh album, entitled Rise of the Tyrant was released on September 24, 2007 in Europe and September 25, 2007 in the United States. Rise of the Tyrant debuted at number 84 on the Billboard 200 chart. This surpassed the Doomsday Machine chart entry, making it the band's highest charting effort to date.

For now, since 1st December 2010 they started working on their eighth studio album, which has been released this year, and is called "Khaos Legions". Here, is an official video of their first single "Yesterday is Dead and Gone":

Christopher Broderick (born March 6, 1970 in Lakewood, Colorado, USA) is the lead and rhythm guitarist for the popular American thrash metal band Megadeth. He currently resides in Sherman Oaks, California. Formerly the lead guitarist and keyboardist for Jag Panzer, he appeared on the last four Jag Panzer albums The Age of Mastery, Thane to the Throne (a concept album about Shakespeare's Macbeth), Mechanized Warfare and Casting the Stones before moving on to Megadeth, replacing Glen Drover. Before joining Megadeth and while still in Jag Panzer, he was also a touring guitarist for Nevermore between 2001 and 2003 and then again between 2006 and 2007. (Wikipedia)

The other day my wife showed me this video, which I think is awesome and I would like to share with you:

Malagueña Salerosa also known as La Malagueña is a well-known Son Huasteco or Huapango song from Mexico, which has been covered by many performers.
The song is that of a man telling a woman (from Málaga, Spain) how beautiful she is, and how he would love to be her man, but that he understands her rejecting him for being too poor.

Chingon was formed by film director Robert Rodriguez to record songs for his 2003 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico. They contributed on Mexico and Mariachis, a compilation album to Rodríguez' Mariachi Trilogy, and released their debut album, Mexican Spaghetti Western, in 2004. The band's name comes from a Mexican slang term, chingón, loosely but closely enough meaning "badass" and/or "awesome".
Chingon also contributed the song "Malagueña Salerosa" to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 2 — which Rodríguez scored — and a live performance by the band was included on the film's DVD release. Steve Vai Acoustic

The other day I went with my brother to the local music store Picholi to check out the acoustic guitars they had on stock. Most of them were Fender, Ibanez and Takamine. When we were about to leave, I picked up an Ibanez acoustic guitar catalog, and checked out that Joe Satriani and Steve Vai had both their own signature guitars.

Knowing their virtuoso playing style and high performance and technique with the electric guitar, I wanted to see how did they perform with the acoustic. A very interesting video from Steve Vai playing "All About Eve". For me, it gets just in the limit where natural paced, instinctive playing gets faded by playing fast, thousand scales and all that stuff. Although, it has the unique brand of Mr. Vai in it:

OK. Here I am posting some videos of the recording of the 11th studio album from brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. For this album, they are working with producer Roy Z in Trama Studios at Sao Paulo, and it should be released in 2011 by Nuclear Blast, both in Europe and in the USA.

As I have already mentioned, I am a great fan of Making Ofs, so, I hope you enjoy with these videos and get an insight of the work that is done in the studios. Have fun!

According to Wikipedia, the video that was released for "Hurt", a cover of the song by Nine Inch Nails, fits Cash's view of his past and feelings of regret. Godsmack

Boston based metal band, Godsmack, is a quartet with a unique and self-owned sound, showing clearly their grunge influences with really heavy and low string riffs. Their main influence is Alice in Chains (even the name of the band is a track from Alice). Dirty, heavy and sometimes melodic harmonies define their style, making use of some acoustic guitars from here to there. Actual members are: Sully Erna (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, drums, percussion, harmonica), Tony Rombola (lead guitar, backing vocals), Robbie Merrill (bass guitar) and ex-Amen drummer Shannon Larkin (drums and percussion).

They reached popularity from their singles "Whatever" and "Keep Away" from their 1998 self-titled album. Now, they have released in May 2010 their 5th album, "The Oracle". Here Im leaving the video for the first track of this album, "Cryin' like a bitch". Critics say is their heaviest and most aggressive album up to date. Well, check it out:

Dark Tranquility - Studio diary

I know it's quite late, but here I am posting their last video from their studio dairy, making of their latest album, "We Are The Void":

Well, quite many things have happened. Among other things, I am getting married, a heat wave is making our lives impossible :P, trying to enjoy the summer by joining a surf course, starting next week, etc. A friend of my girlfriend and mine, Nando, is going to dedicate us a song, which he sang in front of us, in a "preview" - Bob Marley - Satisfy My Soul. After that, we were just jamming some thrash oldies with his spanish guitars. Once again, remembering the good ol' times!!

I have just acquired Dark Tranquility's album. Will have a listen to it and see how it is like. Until then, take care and have fun!!

A-Lex (Sepultura)

Yeah, I know, I am supposed to continue with the Chart, but what I will do (at least try) is to post the whole chart all together and then keep track of my progress. Obviously, I will start from scratch again (like a baby learning to walk.... again!!).

OK, that said, this post is about the eleventh studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. It was released on 23 January 2009 by independent German record label Steamhammer Records. This is the first album featuring new drummer Jean Dolabella, since the departure of Igor Cavalera in 2006.

This is the second concept album released by Sepultura, following 2006's Dante XXI which was based on Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy. A-Lex is based on the 1962 book A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, which in 1971 was adapted into a film version by Stanley Kubrick. Apart from the name of the main character, A-Lex translates to "no law" in Latin.

OK, so... what the hell has been happening lately!?!?! Well, load of things. First of all, I have to say that I am back home in Gran Canaria and I guess I will be staying here for a looong time :P I am happily living my life with my girlfriend, my kids (hehehehe, no... no kids), my family, etc. but I also have to say that I have left some very good friends in Tenerife, and they all are and will be for a lifetime.

So, after being in a couple of live shows in the Ibex 35 (its the name of the place) and listening to some hardcore metal music (Lamb of God) when reuniting with some old friends (None, Ayose & Javi Gragera), I remembered that I had an In Flames album on my iPod, which I went over through this last trip (business purposes, to Valladolid), their last one, 2008's "A Sense of Purpose".

In Flames is a Swedish band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. The band is considered to be a pioneer and major influence to the melodic death metal music genre. Since the band's conception in 1990, they have received numerous awards and released nine studio albums and one live DVD. The origins are friends who now are members of other Swedish bands such as Dark Tranquility and At The Gates, being Jesper Strömblad the founder of In Flames. Their influences definitely come to Iron Maiden and death metal, but they have added other ingredients to their style, as you would notice if you follow their whole career.

Peter Iwers - bass guitar
