Preview: Angel/Faith & Buffy the Vampire Slayer #10

If you are anything like me, then you egarly wait for new issues of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Season 9 has been different. Unexpected, but not completely fulfilling- yet I still run to the store when new issues are released.

Angel & Faith has been the better of the two titles, it has a clear focus and I feel like it is progressing towards something big. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 on the other hand, like Buffy herself, lacks a real focus. (mild spoilers) The pregnancy scare was intriguing and it was great to see Robin Wood again along with bits and pieces of his mother’s past. Yet the book took a detour that I wouldn’t describe as good and opened up a lot of plot holes which I doubt will ever get filled. And am I the only one who doesn’t enjoy Spike’s alien ship with giant bugs? I hated the giant psychic fish at IDW, but these guys (save for a few very funny one liners) are just as bad and useless.

Angel and Faith are forced into battle, less by choice and more by circumstance, when two mysterious women from Giles’s past call on the unlikely duo for help. But that’s only the beginning of Angel and Faith’s troubles as the ladies settle in for the night! Series writer Christos Gage (Avengers Academy) and guest artist Chris Samnee (Thor), the creative team of Vertigo’s Area 10, reveal more about Giles’s past and further Angel’s quest in bringing the Watcher back from the dead! Samnee and Gage reunite!

While Buffy is undertaking an away mission with Spike and Andrew, the SFPD is starting to really feel the effect of the rapid zompire population growth . . . Buffy needs to get herself back together and home to SF quick, but facing Slayer Simone and her unexpected ally is going to make it a rough job! Zompires attack the SFPD! Angel & Faith hits stands on May 30th, while the new issue of Buffy comes out on June 13th.

Preview: Before Watchmen: Comedian #1

A month from now, on June 20th, the controversial prequel Before Watchmen: Comedian #1 hits stands and the digital market. Whether you are for or against all of the “Before Watchmen” titles, you have to admit, these are some pretty nifty covers that DC Entertainment released earlier today. The one on the left is a variant cover by Eduardo Risso, while the one of the right is by the living legend, Jim Lee. DC released a third cover over on its blog.

How To Watch Your Favorite Shows

Did you catch the plane crash on Grey’s Anatomy last Thursday? How about 2 Broke Girls meeting Martha Stewart? Did you witness House‘s struggle in a burning building? Will you be watching tonight as the Glee kids graduate from High School? As you might have noticed, the current TV season is quickly coming to a close. This gives you the perfect opportunity to take a look at your television package.

Do you have Cable, direct tv, Dish, or do you get all of your television via the web? What or how is the best way to get your television fix? How much are you spending or how much are you comfortable spending. Personally, I use Cable and have been using it for years. I have quickly been getting discouraged as my price seems to go up and up with nothing I can do about keeping it down.

How would my package compare to dx3 direct tv? Well, let me take a look. I spend approximately 100 bucks for my service and I get two premium channels. The price scale on www.dx3.net stars at 29.99 for the Entertainment package and goes up to 44.99 for the Choice Ultimate package (both deals for 12 months). Entertainment package comes with 140 channels, which is about what I have now minus the premium channels, while Choice Ultimate package has 225 channels with 11 extra movie channels and free premium channels for 3 months. The Choice Ultimate has a lot of bang for the buck. Direct TV has other options and features including (but not limited to) NFL Sunday Ticket and On Demand. Last night, Desperate Housewives ended its run with a two hour series finale. Modern Family keeps the laughs coming as proves that they are still one of the funniest shows on TV as the family heads to Disney. Equipment for Set Maintenance

I talk about a lot of pieces of equipment and tips, some are useful for prep and shooting of movies, while others are just nice for general building, office, and set maintenance. The tips and equipment I’m talking about today, a Hardwood Floor Cleaning machine, fits into the latter category.

When I was asked to chat about this item I wasn’t sure where I’d go with talking about it, but the more research I did about Hardwood Cleaning, the more it tied in with the Filmmaking site of our website. Whether you are shooting your movie on film or HD, you need your set in tip top shape otherwise you will see every piece of dirt and nick in your floors, which can become very distracting to your audience. Say a scene takes place in what is supposed to be a wealthy person’s apartment, but the floors look cheap and messed up. Having the proper tools to make your wood or wood-like floors look as good as possible are very important.

This same piece of advise should follow you to your production office. When you have the resources to do so, you should invest in the proper equipment to put your best foot forward. If you have wood floors, make sure that they are sanded, stained, and look polished when you have possible investors, talent or crew coming in for meetings. If you look cheap, they will think you are cheap.

Mini-Review: 21 Jump Street

21 JUMP STREET
This is one of those films that generally surprised me. Going in, I didn’t have high expectations. After all, Jonah Hill’s last comedy was The Sitter, but man did this movie bring the laughs. Channing Tatum is turning into the new incarnation of Mark Wahlberg, an actor known for his mostly serious movies who’s straight out awesome at comedy (but unlike Marky Mark, Channing’s actually a decent dramatic actor). There’s a ton of fun cameos in this pic, the gags are hilarious, and the movie delivers on multiple levels. Jonah Hill has shown that he can actually write a good film and I’m hoping he does more writing in the future.

Definitely a guilty pleasure film, it’s one of Jonah Hill’s best and a sequel is definitely on its way. The trailer undersells what’s likely going to be one of 2012′s best comedies.

The Pit: Sim City, HTG, Avengers, & More!

An announcement trailer for am all new Sim City has been released and words can not express how excited I am about it. Now if I’ll be able to find the actual time to play it is another story altogether.

While on the subject of simulations, Hollywood the Game is going as strong as ever. The game is completely open ended and player run. You start off in the slums of Hollywood with 500k in your pocket and you decide how you will play. Do you want to fight to become a movie studio head or a network executive for a television network? Open a creative company? Become a critic? Journalist? The possibilities are endless.

Avengers mania is reaching new highs as we inch closer to the mega superhero team up film that no one thought was possible to get together. Apple has posted a bunch of new exclusive videos. Check them out here. Will you be doing the epic Marvel marathon of all the past movies followed by Avengers in 3d?

After the short lived Mr. Sunshine and the cut off too soon Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Matthew Perry is being given another chance with a new show on NBC. Go On co-stars Julie White and Suzy Nakamura, with Perry as a sportscaster who uses group therapy to try to move on from a loss. White portrays a member of his group who is stuck in the anger state of grief.

A preview has been released for the Smallville Season 11 online comic series. The panels are a look at Lois and Clark’s relationship 6 months after the series finale. Give them a look.

Horror Movie

I accidentally watched the scariest movie ever last night. It’s called Case 39. Do not watch it, unless you like to be scared to death. I thought it was going to be just a good, normal movie about a social worker and her experiences. Renee Zellweger is in it, so I thought it was going to be a cute movie.

I had no idea that I had accidentally rented a horror movie! Since I had paid for it, though, I thought I should finish it. Oh my goodness! I was terrified all night and had the worst nightmares ever. It was awful. If it wouldn’t have been for my ADT Tennessee, I honestly don’t think I would have been able to get any sleep at all. I don’t know how some people watch movies like that, much less enjoy them. It was freaky and scary. I am surprised Renee Zellweger wanted to be in a movie like that. It is not her style at all. It was definitely a horror movie, which I do not like.

Movie Review: Project X

I called The Artist a “fun movie”, well Project X was a blast, but in a totally different way. Right from the get go, you feel like you’re apart of the central group throwing the party and as the party progresses, so does your perception how into the party you are. This is probably the best party movie ever made and the best use of “found footage” style filmmaking since the original Paranormal Activity. This film really does make the viewer want to be at that party but at no point do you want to ever throw that party.

Oliver Cooper steals the show as “Costa”, the brains of the operation. He really is a younger version of Jonah Hill and he steals the spotlight just like Jonah did in Superbad. I’m excited to see where his career goes from here. The rest of the cast really fit there roles well. The only problem this film has is that it wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be. Some of the jokes fall flat and some opportunities are missed when it comes to making jokes.

The film is billed as a comedy-thriller and, well, when I first saw that I didn’t know why that was– but by the time the film ends, you know exactly why. I gotta admit, I didn’t expect it at all, but the film handles its shift in tone amazingly while still staying true to the tone it set from the beginning.

If you want to turn your mind off for two hours and just have a blast at the movies, Project X is for you, as this filmmaking experience is insane — in a good way.
